I mean, it's not the dumpster fire that the GTA Remastered collection was (and they say that Konami are going to be offering updates), although if I'm going to pick this up it'll definitely be on PS5.
Yeah, a dev blacklist or "hide item" would be a good start — although the whole eshop needs a complete redesign; most of the time I just use the website as the one on the Switch itself is about as functional as a chocolate teapot.
@Polvasti yeah but it's an extra, unnecessary step — it'd be nice to have everything sortable in one place in the main library — the Groups thing feels like everything is buried in a whole separate subsection
An "update all" option in the library would be a nice QoL addition. Also the ability to manually sort items (right now anything beginning with "The" falls under "T")
@Olliemar28 cool review — I'm still on the fence what platform I'm gonna pick this up on, if I pick it up at all... I'd like to know though, are the MGS games supplied as download codes, or do you need to insert the cart to run them?
@bluemage1989 cripes — I mean, I appreciate that indie dev studios don't have the manpower to address bugs on the same level as AAA studios, but it really kills my excitement for picking games up on launch.
@Daniel36 yeah, and while I've since grown to appreciate Mario 64 since nabbing 3D All-stars, back when I first played it it felt very sparse and tech demo-ey.
@Daniel36 Thanks — that's exactly the description of SMW that has always been its appeal to me, and one that that all 2D Mario games since have failed to replicate. Every game feels very linear and "level"-y — whereas SMW felt like, well, a whole world with tonnes of hidden secrets.
Yeah, screenshots don't mean a thing — Remember when there was a smattering of shiny screenshots, and some VERY carefully-curated clips of GTA Definitive edition surfacing? Oh how naive and innocent we were...
@koopastoopid Yeah, I just picked it up on sale for £3, which I guess I'm not going to miss, but the frame rate on the game is abominable. Like 4-6 FPS when moving the camera — absolutely immersion-breaking, and especially egregious when I've seen the game be played at what looks like a silky smooth 30+
@Maddie47 yeah, same — I tend to flit between long games and shorter games, with a throughline of farming and puzzle games that I'll regularly dip into
If I bought a game with the promise of it eventually being finished, I'd want a refund, simple as that — a choice of a free game from the same publisher feels like a slap in the face. It'd be like going into a restaurant and ordering a meal which was undercooked, and had items missing, but then the manager was like, "oh would you like something else from the same inept kitchen staff? We'll still charge you for the thing you originally ordered"
I'd be genuinely interested to see the stats on FIFA's install base across all consoles — granted I don't know many people who play it, but I doubt anyone who's into it would want to play it on a Switch.
This is one of the reasons I didn't jump in right away — seemingly every article/feed I was privy to was talking about TotK, so I was happy to just go radio silent for a couple of weeks, then get lost in the game in my own time. I didn't start BotW til I got my Switch in 2019, long after the hubbub had died down, and it was nice to just play and enjoy the game on my own terms, and in my own time, without feeling like I had to rush along with seemingly every other video game player on the planet
@LadyCharlie Yeah, I was actually quite intrigued when they announced the game, with it's "1" title, I thought, "oh a nice back to basics jumping on point — might keep an eye on this", and then seemingly EVERY update/article about it since has been about the various celebrity character cameo DLC, which just leaves a colossal bad taste in the mouth.
Really dig the look of this — in an era where so many people try to replicate the vibe of 8-16 bit aesthetics with cheap, off-the-shelf pixel art, it's refreshing to see one that so perfectly captures the look of arcade games from the mid-'80s — right down to the portrait aspect ratio.
@FishyS While they weren't impossible or anything, I found some of the bosses in Forgotten Land fairly challenging — enough so that I wasn't just playing passively. And yeah, going for all the hidden Waddle Dees and finding all the secrets were a great way to add challenge to the game without making it feel unnecessarily padded.
Backwards compatibility HAS to be a thing — and if we can get enhanced performance (load times, better frame rates) on existing games, that's a bonus — then that's a day-one purchase for me.
@KateGray that's good to know, thanks! Having played quite a few of them now, I think that my interest/longevity in farming/life sims tends to live or die based on how efficient and unfaffy the inventory system is.
What's the inventory system like? One of the things that eventually put me off Stardew (and what drew me to Rune Factory and Atelier Ryza) was the inability to access all items and materials from one sortable resource pool
It's not that they talk, they just have weirdly eerie normal person-sounding voices. Like they're the placeholder voice before Martinez (or whoever's replacing him) comes in to give it that distinct Mario flair.
I was expecting a hook, something unique and interesting that shook up the formula that's become a bit tired with the NSMB games — aside from the refined, more expressive character models, it just looks like more of the same (albeit with disconcertingly verbose flora). Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm not gonna be buying it on day one or anything
I think I had my fill of BL with the first two games (tried playing Pre-Sequel but I stalled halfway through) — apparently they lean really hard into the humour in BL3, and I dunno if I can stomach it for a whole game's worth.
@Greninjabread yeah, I tried the first one on Virtual Console, and just felt unnecessarily difficult to the point where I didn't feel like I was enjoying it. At least with something like Celeste you have unlimited lives and sensible checkpoints. And yeah I got on relatively fine with what little I was given during the demo of SoS
@abbyhitter @Zeropulse I was interested to know this too — I'd be happy to play it, but I was never super into Ninja Gaiden on NES, so The Messenger passed me by. Is it worth checking out? I doubt I'll get round to Sea of Stars before the physical release anyway.

@Cashews "It doesn't look like most of the hits are even registering." — that was one of my main gripes with Cuphead - every enemy just felt like an actual bullet sponge, it never felt like any impact was being made, and you're essentially just dodging projectiles until a timer runs out

Re: Nintendo Launches Black Friday Switch eShop Sale, Up To 90% Off (Europe)
@DrJoson Ah! Thanks for that — I thought that it was the sequel, or at least a 1.5 stopgap entry, a la Bravely Second
Re: Nintendo Launches Black Friday Switch eShop Sale, Up To 90% Off (Europe)
@rSp8 Do I need to have played the first Dragon's Dogma?
Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?
As long as it has full back-compat, and there's no archaic console-to-console transfer nonsense, I'll trade mine in for the new model in a heartbeat
Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?
I'm weirdly indifferent to the idea of a Zelda film - especially a live action one, but show me a trailer and it might ignite something within me

Re: It Looks Like Robocop: Rogue City Has Been Quietly Cancelled On Switch
@Woderwick it's a banger, right? I'd love it if a modern Robo game did an orchestra/rock version for the title screen.

They had to kill the Switch release because they made a mistake. Now it's time to erase that mistake.
