With foreign text, context is lost and menus are confusing. I can play these emulated with fan translation patches by fans who made them out of passion and for free rather than this meager offering from NoA who won't bother translating 20 year old roms.
@TheFox XSEED was always terrible. And hypocritical too. They made fun of other localizers and censorship simultaneously doing the same thing. Senran Kagura games have cringy meme translations too. They even used rub the dub thanks for grub meme and made up a lot of nicknames.
Please allow us to remap the controls! Motion Control tied to important actions on Wii and two of the preset controls on 3DS was awful! Making the circle pad required to move instead of the directional pad for a 2D platformer.. what were they thinking?? If we can remap the controls to something close to the DKC trilogy, that would be ideal!
7/10. TTYD is a fine game in itself, but the iconic script didn't need to be touched. Literally refurbished game is just new meh graphics, a few QoL, dialogue 'updated' to appeal to current year sensitivities, and 30FPS.
I quite like the game didn't receive post paid DLC. Won't feel so conflicted not updating my version past 1.12 or whatever it was when Nintendo started to patch duplication methods for a single player game that had no affect on others whether you took part in them or not.
Saw a lot of examples of translations by people compared to the localization and I have to say it's the worst localized dialogue to be seen. They've inserted out of place words and names from deep internet spaces like 'chud' of all things; yeah, it's that bad. Itâs like if you wrote âbasedâ or âpoggersâ into a script. What's worse is that all other languages save for Chinese use the English script as a foundation for their translation, so yes, I'm avoiding this. Sad that once again, a game's script is butchered by localization.
@Not_Soos Article doesn't mentioned it, but along with the censorship, the rating was re-rated from M to T coinciding with the update. Look at the listing on Nintendo's own site if you wanna see for yourself.
@Joeynator3000 @PikminMarioKirby If the original can run at 60 I don't see why the remake can't either. Plus, it will mess with the timing of super guard and the other action commands. Not prioritizing the framerate in a game where timed attacks are everything seems very backwards to me. Having half the framerate that the 20 year old original has would be a real bummer if it ends up being part of the final game. 60 FPS looks better and feels more responsive. Anything you're used to will be laggy instead.
@Yosher You want even more conditions for matchmaking when it takes minutes searching for a battle and more for Tricolor; especially when the proportion of player count for teams is skewered? That's if you don't get a mirror match. No thanks.
@Yosher "But I mean that makes sense when one team sweeps the battles, I guess"
I sense doubt. The team with the more skilled players who win more absolutely deserve the win. Team Frye should win by their merits alone and get better. Not win just cause, or if they haven't so long. Maybe she'll have a chance when Nintendo gives her the least popular choice so there's less casuals losing for her.
What did I just watch? So much going on in video, just relay the news. This is a critique to the video format, mind you. Going overboard with the edits and skits to keep those with low attention spans from tuning out.
Yes, because DLC doesn't fix the issues like third games did. Also, you can sell back the prototype version for near retail price and buy the third version with almost no money loss. You spend more buying DLC on top; good luck trying to sell back DLC.
@sanderev Yes, but I thought Nintendo were going to start doing that with future games to further incentivise buying them since they experimented with locking icon purchases tied to playing. Wouldn't surprise me when they begin to implement it as a standard after that.
I was thinking Nintendo might lock the games icons for use if you didn't own the game like they dabbled with in this month's Super Mario World and Animal Crossing icons.
I liked Preecha's older design more. Her new look has so much goth egirl feel imo. Those specific hair colors are gonna attract some really annoying people also.
@Greatluigi @Dm9982 A flux of glitches like direct units attacking indirectly and game crashes when COs use their CO Power (Seems to happen a lot for Sturm and a few against Eagle from my own experience)
Conspicuously, they slapped the patch number 1.0 on the title screen, but has never patched once.
@Dm9982 "I knew WayForward wouldnât just let the game rot as is. Theyâre way too good of a company, and know a large chunk of their fan base lies on Switch"
What's next, will they start programming out the existence of Mother 3 in later Smash Brothers iterations through chatacters, stages, trophies, and spirits in international versions? I'm sure they would if they could. So asinine of Nintendo, region exclusive icons.. Didn't stop them from releasing Famicom icons everywhere.
@Waluigi451 Yeah, like how it made sense to add a Famicom system, controller, and its accessories as icons through the NES grouped icons right? Because they were totally sold internationally, wait...
@Gryffin I agree with you on a certain level, but come on.. 'cost almost nothing to make'? Remake added remixed tunes, 2 brand new worlds, altered existing stage layouts, bonus stages are entirely new, CGI cutscenes that look better than the Mario Movie even all makes the original look like an early tech demo. All of that ain't cheap.
@Spider-Kev It's a small thing, but censorship is still censorship. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. The fact is when they said it was unaltered, they lied to every purchaser who is subjected to the warning splash screen upon start-up. I'd maybe understand if they were aiming for T rating, but the collection is M rating.
These games are iconic and most beloved, yet they felt the need to add in a fudgin' disclaimer. Really???
@GarlicGuzzler The more we know, the better. Games shouldn't even have these sensibility disclaimers in the first place. It's age rated appropriately, M, not eC.
@HeadPirate This isn't Nintendo or the lead producer of the product or Miyamoto going back & forth with the artists, it's an outside team on the same payroll made up to influence with their own vision what they think is best for the western market, that's the difference. Treehouse is dictating the content of Japanese games while they're mid-development.
I'm not advocating change. Where have I said, 'unwanted, change this or else'? I humorously pointed out a blatant check box they met with purposely covering up one specific part of her body in all possible scenarios. We don't know all the facts, but the pattern has got me theorizing why they made an effort to bundle her up. It's not that deep.
@HeadPirate I've already addressed your point; the decision of opaque tights they went with is a form of hiding legs. If it shown the skintone underneath I wouldn't consider it cover up.
Are we really on the same page? I'm not advocating for Censorship whatsoever. I abhor it. You have a misunderstanding that I'm pro censorship. Quite the opposite.
It's a known fact, publicly stated by Nintendo theirselves that they send a team from the NoA and NoE branch to Japan routinely to 'consult' with the devs current projects on ideas of censoring or further 'westernizing' material during development. Even at the source level where localizers tell Japanese devs how to change the Japanese version so there is NO uncensored version and they can release games simultaneously. These teams are parasites. Infectious. Now the Japanese games suffer.
"But I'm also not going to tell Nintendo to change the art they have chosen to create, or tell the people who appreciate that direction they are wrong or bad people.
That's what respecting creative content actually looks like."
That's exactly what Nintendo pays teams to do at the source.
@beazlen1 Next, people will find showing forearms sacrilege and refer to an M rating game if you wanna see those, I swear đ. The censor team probably was against Mermaid Peach and suggested Scuba Peach so she'd be covered up, but the Japanese Devs were like "that's a line we won't cross, deal with the midriff".
@Yalloo I'm referring to Bayonetta official default art, you see. I don't play the games, but every iteration of her default clothing she prowls in mostly, her legs aren't shown to be bare so I wouldn't equate it to a character with a design with leg exposed.
@Ryu_Niiyama It coincidentally matches her dress color as I mentioned before. They could had have her wear tights that matches her skintone, yet it's covered up in blue.
@ArcadianLegend99 Bayonetta doesn't show leg so that was a poor suggestion. A better one would be any Mario Tennis or Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games where her legs are in full view. I just find it fascinating that not one transformation where'd it make sense to having Peach show skin there, does. When did showing leg become so blasphemous, sacrilege in gaming media all of a sudden, it's a natural part of the body that shouldn't always be covered up. It feels forced here and I'm calling it out.
Confirmed, Peach isn't allowed to show leg anymore. Figure Skate Peach would of been the opportunity, but wears matching tights as her dress. What's the point?
@vio Well I informed you why the season is lacking compared to previous ones and it seems like you understand now. A single player mode expansion that has been worked on through all the seasons in the background that doesn't release along with the next Season to boot isn't related. I believe it's because we're nearing the end of the promised free updates. I hope you get your money's worth out of Side Order, however.
