Back in November last year Warner Bros. added another game to the list of confirmed Nintendo Switch titles, including the system for a re-release of LEGO City: Undercover. Originally a Wii U exclusive, it's coming to the Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC in Spring this year.
A new trailer gives a reminder of the light-hearted story-telling and the sheer volume of pop-culture references to be found in the adventure. Check it out below.
We enjoyed the original a lot, so the fresh release will certainly be well worth considering for those that skipped it on Wii U.
Are you planning to investigate this one in the Spring?

Only if they got the loading times of the original behind bars.
I already have the original on Wii U, so I'll stick with that version.
I wonder if the Switch version will retain the Nintendo references/content? I sure hope so.
Owning it already on Wii U means I'll probably buy it on Switch when it's cheaper if they've fixed the very long loading screens. An Amazon listing says the game has had a co-op mode added.
I'll be double dipping at some point.
Great game. Glad I finally got to play it when it hit the Selects line. Not great enough for me to replay, but yeah, if they reduce the loading times by about 95% - I think I might have 1 still going now - I can see my kids wanting to play this on Switch. And if Amazon is right and there is 2 player co-op, really like there should have been form the beginning, Frank is adorable, they'll get it sooner rather than later.
It would have been nice if they had remastered the 3ds version as well as a bonus. I might double dip as it is my favorite Lego game but I don't tend to replay them, so I am not sure.
I 100%ed this game. I loved it. I might get it on the Switch if it comes with faster loading times and a visual upgrade.
Watching the trailer reminded me how non-different the game will seem w/o the screen on the Gamepad, but man, seeing "NINTENDO SWITCH" up there in that font sure was cool. I don't know who things will turn out in 3 or 4 years, but "NINTENDO SWITCH" seems way cooler than Wii U. I always hated that tiny superset u. The name was bad enough, but it made Wii U look like Wii u. People were like "What's that litte blue thing over there on the box?" NINTENDO SWITCH is a bad mofo 70's gaming machine. Who dat.
Looks like a fun game!
If I had the patience to put up with the 175 hours of loading screens, when I tried to play it on my WiiU, I'm sure I'd've enjoyed it.
Guys, if you noticed, Chase wears a little bit different police outfits from that trailer. Wish on Switch version, the Disguise customize expanded with hair color, hands, clothes color options. I want to create my own Boxing Lego characters, with boxing gloves equipped.
Too bad, Wii U version don't let me use different hands such as Boxing gloves.
So disappointed that it's a remaster and not a sequel like they made it look like. I know Nintendo Life reported it as a remaster, but nothing coming from WB indicated that, so I didn't believe it. I guess because all the press sites assumed it was a remaster, WB assumed everyone would listen to them and didn't clarify themselves.
@Mush123
Yeah. Mario content can't be appeared on ps4 , xbox1, pc due to Nintendo branding. Wonder what kind of substitute for them...
@rjejr Co-op! For that, I might be tempted to double dip, but probably not. If load times are way better maybe. I'm actually just hoping the game gets the recognition and popularity it deserves and maybe we'll get a sequel. THAT I'll be on board with for sure.
I do find it a bit odd that the trailer doesn't really highlight the open world nature of the game. LEGO GTA is a big part of what made it stand out from the other games, not just the second screen stuff.
@rjejr On "Nintendo Switch". I really like that Nintendo is in the name, too. I think with the Wii they were tempted to sort of make that the brand. You didn't see "Nintendo" as much. Bad, bad move because for the longest time Nintendo was like Kleenex. People in the US at least used to use it to mean a machine that played video games. Used to drive me a little batty as a kid when adults would call my Sega system a Nintendo, but anyway... Nintendo Switch it is. If it wants to be in company with the other abbreviations that are closest and try to live up to them, I'm all for it. NES, SNES, ..., NS
@aaronsullivan All the trailer was was cut scenes, I don't think there was any game play at all - I was looking for a 2nd player on the upper right. Plus I'm not sure how you show "open world" in a city.
One thing the game needs is a fly-land-fly anywhere ability. Even w. the awesome jet pack once you landed that was that. I'd be ok if they left it for after you finished the main story, maybe that's when we only got the jetpack anyway - but fliyng around just to jump out and then being far away from the next airport I always found annoying. After I finished Liberty Island I stopped. People should be able to fly from anywhere w/ a jetpack or even 1 person mini-copter.
@rjejr I haven't played this game yet, but it sounds like the open city part of Marvel Superheroes. Is that accurate?
@aaronsullivan ""Nintendo Switch""
Well said. I've argued on here before Wii had nothing to do w/ Nintendo, and Nintendo had nothing to do with Wii. People bought "Wii Sports" at the store, that was it's name, "Wii Sports". Then later on other games like "Wii Fit" and "Wii Sports Resort" helped make "Wii" the first name. There was no "Nintendo" in sight. "Nintendo Switch" is the way to go, even if we only call it Switch or NS the marketing should include the game.
Now if tonight they unveil the true real red color and get rid of that ugly gray.
@2CUTE4YOU: I find it to be more entertaining and less tedious that Marvel Superheroes. And it does a nice job of offering open world exploration with the player option to keep the plot moving in a more linear manner.
Absolutely love it on Wii U, which will likely remain the best version thanks to the Wii U GamePad. 100% complete it, so much to do! Those loading times though... painful, but worth it.
@bluedogrulez Good to know. I might pick it up someday. After I finish all the other LEGO games I've some how accumulated. 😏
Definitely maybe
@2CUTE4YOU The game is really kind of it's own thing. There's a voice acted story that drives stuff along for maybe 6-12 hours depending on how you move along, and then many, many, many side missions. Or you can just run around shooting basketballs into hoops. The extremely long load times are off-putting, and the lack of multiplayer co-op kept me from playing it for 3 yars, but it did seem less like a Lego game and more like an adventure game to me, w/ tons to do.
Great game, and I'm glad owners of other platforms are finally able to play it. One of the funniest games I've ever played.
@Anti-Matter Part of me thinks they'll just remove it all together, including on the Switch version. Still hoping Switch has the Ninty content, but I'm doubting it.
Lego games aren't really skill based like a Mario or Bayonetta, so once you've played them (and in Lego City's case 100% it), there isn't much reason for me to play it again.
Hopefully no load times. I wonder how the scanner will work?
@rjejr
You were put off because of the unmovable price
Dont think I will double dip. Loading screens are annoying only if you go to the Police Station and the one at the start, though.
Always wanted to go through this again without the horrific load times..... so I'll be getting the PS4 version unless there's some compelling reason to get it on Switch.
@Manjushri I hope so! Wii U Game Library is great! Not so many people have played those games so if Switch sells 60 million units that'll be 45 million new customers for these games!
@sinalefa you've got a point, re @rjejr and the price 😉
@sinalefa Well I can almost always find a way around the price if I want it bad enough. But, ok, yeah, price held me back too.
@MrGawain
Hm... at least I can make the cars Kaboom...!! by Astronout beam, Paint over all nearby with Color gun, Wandering around with or without vehicles and get fancy with disguises.
Well, I admit it will completely Nothing to do after 100%, same case with MySims Kingdom & MySims Agents Wii.
@Dangerous25 Everybody's a comedienne, sheesh.
@rjejr 😂 👍
@-SD- ... Maybe that you can play it away from the TV?
It didn't dawn on me until lately: every game that comes out on Switch is going to be portable by definition.
If there was a GIF of youtuber Arlo yelling "SWIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH!" as he did in his "rational analysis of Switch hype", I'd post it here.
Just a few more hours, people!
It was a fantastic game. It would be nice if they added online multiplayer and other things present in GTA V.
Oh, I wonder what kind of gadget that Chase will bring for non Wii U version ? Chase use a Wii gamepad alike gadget to communicate, scanning objects, overhearing conversation, etc.
Nice, never got the original so I'll be happy to pick this up on the PS4.
This is one of the many launch releases that I'll stay clear of. I don't want to encourage third party rehashes on this console
Anything I can get on 3DS or that doesn't itch my interest, I'm not buying, not even in near future since my budget is low and I want to experience new games on the Switch and they won't be cheap. I like lego games though, there's something special about them and honestly they are tons of great fun. I wish they would bundle Harry Potter lego and bring it to Switch, sadly 3DS got only the years 5-7 if I recall correctly.
At this point I hope all the good Wii U games are ported to the switch. It'll be really awkward if there's only one great Wii U exclusive when all is said and done.
@SanderEvers
Oh, please. Don't remind me with adult game titles reference. I hate them. To be honest, before I ultimately bought Lego City games (Wii U and 3DS), my feeling and trust almost despaired by gta references inside Lego City games. At first, I shocked, felt angry to Nintendo why let TT Fushion created such a game with those references like that. I almost canceled the purchase on that day. But, after I thought again, I knew Lego City still kid friendly games. TT Fushion will not so crazily tainted Lego's image as Kids toys with disgusting adult contents. Nintendo also will not so crazily like that. So, I regain my trust with LEGO City games after very long deliberation. Actually, I do enjoy the game, but don't remind me with any criminal adult games references like that. I can be upset again, like opening my old wound. Sorry about my long reply.
@Anti-Matter what's wrong with GTA, or other "adult" games?
I love this game and still holds its own against, and betters, many more 'modern' games made today. And that's doubly impressive when you think it was a WiiU launch title. I'll definitely be picking this up but I do hope TT have done something about those awful load times which hark back to the ZX Spectrum days.
This was a great game but I still much prefer Lego star wars force awakens. Mybfavourite game of last year.
@PotatoTheGreat
About that, those diabolical adult games poisoned almost every young generations, especially my students. Can you imagine how disastrous , negative effects from those games ? Criminals, killing, raping, sex, drugs, etc. How disgusting, how evil of that. I ever have 1 student (grade 6 , last year) that his brain contaminated so heavily with Tons of adult games. He couldn't think clearly, he couldn't behave politely, he couldn't say nice things, he couldn't understand the lessons, he couln't take it seriously with almost everything and moreover, he ever teased me with how amazing to indulge in adultery things like that. What a disastrous effect of those adult games. That's why I raised my concern. I don't want my students grow up in disgusting adultery behaviours like that. Just now, this afternoon, I caught one of my student insulting his friends with very abusive words (And he is grade 3). I suspect he got influenced by his another friends that I heard also from another students if his friend experienced with so many harsh words, adultery things, shooting, "kill" words frequently in his speech. Gosh... how horrible to imagine like that. That's why I hate adult games, just only bring negative effects, no benefits at all. Thank goodness, I was born with some kindness in my heart. Btw, i'm working as Librarian , Substitute teacher and Drawing teacher at Primary School.
Eh. I love this game as my favorite Lego game, but even then it's not worth it rebuying. I'll just wait for the sequel
@Manjushri why not? My ps3 and 4 libraries are almost the same, and PS4 is the best selling next gen port console.
@Anti-Matter Generic plumber OR the lumberjack from Timber, a Midway Arcade Classic, as seen in LEGO Dimensions!
If not Mario, maybe it will be Sonic the Hedgehog's turn, since he's playable in LEGO Dimensions instead of Mario. Gotta go fast, you know.
Best Lego game I played by far. Yes it has long loading times but that's only at the start of a mission. Top game😃
The only game I'll double dip on, one of the best games on the Wii U
Never got around to playing this, so it might be one of the first things I get for Switch.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I guess it'll varry from "Same with new extras", sequels that expand on the original (Splatoon 2, Mario Maker 2 etc.), lazy sequels (New Super Mario Bros comes to mind. XD) and god knows what the port of Smash 4 becomes (I reckon a separate version with all the features of the 3DS and Wii U versions with a few extras)
I like the older outfit more. His new one is kind of drab. Really dark.
However, this version better have better load times!
Cartridges = faster load times
I am sure some of the stuff in the trailer wasn't in the Wii U game. I'll be buying this version no matter what.
@PotatoTheGreat GTA hasn't had a good game in many years, now instead of trying to make the game play as fun as possible, they try and get as many swear words in as possible.
No I'll wait for when it becomes a select title, I started to play the Wii-U version and loved it. It felt like Nintendo's answer to GTA, I'll definitely play it again soon.
So there might be remakes of Wii-U titles on Switch? if so I'm a little worried.
All this talk of load times has put me off the game (as well as the 3DS version). I already have GTA: Chinatown Wars on DS and GTA: Liberty City Stories on iPad for my portable open-world fix. I may consider grabbing Lego City Undercover only if the Switch version does away with the long load times, but even so, I'd rather see a GTA V port on Switch. A man can dream.
Seriously one of my favorite Wii U games. So different from the average Lego outings (which never impressed me in the least, to be quite honest).
Don't think I'll double dip, but this is the one Wii U game I'm sure I'll replay some day. And here's hoping for a sequel!
@Anti-Matter Yeah Nintendo is so perfect family-friendly. Swearing bad. Swearing taint kids brain.
The best Lego game ever made.
