Rumour: Monolith Soft Working on Something 'New' for Nintendo Switch

Hope that's more then a rumor. I still remember the 3ds game they were working on and we never got, maybe it's that?!

I would be okay with Tantalus. I think they did a great job with Twilight Princess HD.

I would love an amiibo line with this game too that included Lin, Elma, and Tatsu. These amiibo could unlock extra affinity missions that centered around these characters.

Though it's not really a rumour that Monolith Soft is working on a new game for the Switch, as the title of this article suggests. I do think it will be out in 2018 at the earliest, 2019 maybe even more realistic. XC launched in 2010 for Wii in Japan, XCX in 2015. Hope we don't have to wait another 5 years.

I'm glad. I was worried it might be a while before we see something new from Monolith.

Will this be the uncensored version? Cue meltdown.

I don't usually pay rumors any mind, but I'll take any hint that monolith soft is working on a new game. Not double dipping for Xenoblade X if it goes to NS though.

I don't think I'll get the port... But I do hope we get a glimpse soon of what Monolith is working on. I'd love a sequel to XCX, even if its something that happens a long time after the events of the first game - I want to get closure on that ending!

We only had confirmation about the White Whale, but Lin always suspected that there had to be more ships that survived. I rememberg a couple of scientists in the Skell Hangar that were working on sending something to space to find some signal of the other arks.

It would be interesting to see if more arks survived and how they relate to the White Whale, and with that ending regarding humanity.

If anyone is going to handle the port for Xenoblade Chronicles X, Monster Games seems like the most experienced company to do so. They successfully ported over Donkey Kong Country Returns and Xenoblade Chronicles to the 3DS, a feat which I thought was impossible, most notably for Xenoblade given how large and epic that game is. And I'm not surprised Monolith Soft is working on a new game for the Switch. It's been a year and a half since Xenoblade Chronicles X was released in Japan, it only makes sense for them to move on to something new. I do hope it's either a sequel to XCX or something in the same vein within the Xenoblade universe.

Nintendo has publicly stated no Switch news till Jan 12, after giving us a huge tease, so of course there is going to be nonsense rumours (and plausible ones as well). I hope MonolithSoft is making the next Metroid. A base world where ypu sometimes with help the federation at war with Pirates/bad guys and then lonely bounty hunter exploration missions on other worlds for Samus

Last note, Nintendo has already soured many a Wii U fan by cutting it's life drastically short (even though I've thoroughly enjoyed my time with it) . People are kinda dejected due to so many Wii U exclusives (possibly) being ported to Switch. The last straw to any Wii U fan would be to release the BotW on Switch BEFORE the Wii U version.

If Nintendo has any heart they will not do this.... Lets wait and see.

All these rumors Emily Rodgers and Laura and unknown sites are not telling the truth. Also more games are going to the wii u buy other developers like me. If the xbox 360 and ps3 are still getting games and the (vita) why cannot the wii u?

@kamikazilucas How many ports did PS4 get in its launch window, and most of those were just graphically enhanced versions, heck they're still getting ports. My point is, these games happen all the time, Nintendo is just pulling a Sony this time.

Do I like it, not really, but not because "I have to buy them all over again" because I don't, I already own them, on the console they were meant to be played on at the time of release. I don't like it, because if the rumours are true, it means there isn't much in the way of new content for the Switch (at least at launch) which gives me less reason to purchase one anytime soon, its great for Non Wi U owners, but Nintendo should space these games out, not dump them at launch.

@RoomB31 Look the reason why ps4 have alot of ports at launch because the ps4 is the successor of the ps3. The switch is not the successor of the wii u and 3ds. Porting something came out 7 months (Mario maker and Xenoblade X) make no sense at all. You people think the wii u is dead. Look I am sorry for the rant. Its bothers me that most of you believe people who have no proof backing these rumors. Also I am a real developer. I have 3 games working for Nintendo because I sign a contract of nintendo. The first game is a 2d puzzle, educational, simulation game and its called I.E.L : Indo European languages. The game is going to release in 2017 for the Wii U and PC. I was making the game for 3 years. Second game is a Untiled Wrestling game. Third - A Nintendo franchise game (hint coming to Nintendo consoles). So yes I know what Nintendo is going to show at Jan 12, 2017. Most of these rumors or not TRUE. You cannot believe anything on the internet.

Tired of people saying "THIS IS FAKE" when 99% of the rumors have been right, especially the more substantiated leaks like this which have come from multiple sources.

@therealgamer please remove me from YOU PEOPLE, I have said little to anything of this regard. Nintendo have themselves stated the Wii U underperformed, the Wii U has ended/or is ending production, these are all clear cut signs that the Wii U is in its last days. Nintendo themselves have said little or done little in terms of marketing or promoting the Wii U, so all signs point to yes.

It's great that you are a developer making games for Wii U, awesome! But that doesn't change what Nintendo has (or rather hasn't) done in terms of ending the Wii U cycle. It doesn't mean people will stop playing their Wii U, I for one will continue for a long time, since I love these games, but that doesn't change the fact that Wii U has had no promotion, no time/money investment from Nintendo.

Your analogy makes no sense, the PS4 sure is the PS3 successor, but that doesn't give legitimacy for ports, ports are legitimized when consoles are not backwards compatible.

If the Switch isn't a successor what is it? A third pillar? if that were true, then Nintendo would be in full force with games/promotions and marketing for the Wii U this Holiday, they sadly are not, there are no Christmas releases, the biggest shopping season of the year and the only new announcement Nintendo has made to take advantage of that is the $99 New Nintendo 3DS, sooooo.... not even a price cut for the Wii U....

@kamikazilucas It's hard to compare the porting lineup since Nintendo relies heavily on themselves to make games for Wii U, so of course 1st party are going to be much higher from Nintendo.

@therealgamer Well yeah, but I also feel the art direction, battle system, music (God yes) and overall atmos was better. The only notes where XCX went higher was the graphics, scope and size. I bash it a lot, i genuinely enjoyed it (and put a lot of time into it) but seeing how great XC was, I couldn't help but feel a wee bit dissapointed.

@RoomB31 No wii u and 3ds here to stay. Switch is not a successor for the wii u and 3ds. Hint the console is coming at March 17 2017 for $199. Nintendo going to ship out at least 2 million units between March and June. The main purpose is that they making up the lost of the sales for the wii u and 3d. Its continuation for the 3d and wii u. What is the future of the wii u? Its not dead. Devs are still going to support the wii u and 3ds. Will nintendo still support the Wii U? Yes like Mario golf, Pikmin 4 and Mario Sunshine (coming to the Switch).

@Aurumonado It not going to happen but one day. I like both Xenoblade but Xenoblade is better than the sequel. Tokyo Mirage sessions is better than XCX. XCX was not bad it really good and yes its better than Final Fantasy 15 (yes I play the full game). Problem with XCX is the story. XC have better story than XCX. Shulk still my favorite character. XCX plays like Xenogears (not a bad thing) but if they want to make a third one make it at least the first XC.

Really hoping for a XCX sequel since there's a semi-cliffhanger at the end, but I'd be satisfied with an entirely new Xeno game too. As for the port, I'm hoping it has crossplay with the Wii U version so the online community doesn't completely die, but if not I'll probably get it anyway. The idea of playing my favorite game portably is hard to resist.

@therealgamer Do you have any proof that you're actually developing games for Nintendo systems? You keep saying it, but I find it a bit hard to believe, simply because anyone on the Internet can claim to be a game developer and then spout their opinions as facts because they "know the truth".

I really hope Monolith making Animal Crossing Switch edition with OMG So Cute HD design, Full Dynamic Camera Angle, Very crisp environment design and so many tasks & minigames that hardly to get bored.

New Xenoblade Chronicles X.

It's time for Monolith to get the broad recognition they deserve. What they did with XCX on Wii U was nothing short of a miracle.

I'd rather get a Xenoblade Chronicles port for the Switch than Xenoblade Chronicles X. I know they've already done that for the New 3DS, but getting a high-def version of that beautiful game on the big screen would be fantastic. X already looks good and plays well enough on the Wii U, so the improvement will be minimal.

Hmm.. Should I get the Wii U version or not?...

I would rather them give us a true sequel to Chronicles. Forget those ports people.

I was never able to finish xenoblade x, the reason being, the music was just too terrible for me to handle throughout a play session. I wish they would have went with the orchestra music 🎶 used in xenoblade chronicles.

XCX doesn't make a lot of sense to me as a port. What will it offer that is new besides portability? It sold decently (not as well as Xenoblade Chronicles) but experienced a relatively fast price drop in the secondary market. Its only a ~$30 game now, and its already HD on the Wii U. I don't see any demand for it...

@therealgamer It's easily feasible for Monolith Soft to be working on a new game. Miyamoto said they were helping with the game. There's a team of 100 people(from both Nintendo and MS) working on Breath Of The Wild, which is mostly made up of Nintendo staff. Monolith Soft have a staff of 109 people as of June 2016. Most of those staff are free to be working on a Switch game. Remember, Monolith Soft helped with Skyward Sword while also making Xenoblade Chronicles.

D:DoC was so cruelly underrated. It had a couple of iffy levels but the shooting and saving people was fun. It was also very well produced for a Wii game

Why is June more logical than Q1 for Zelda? It's not been NOT confirmed as a launch title?

Xenoblade Chronicles Sun

I really hope that porting agency can fix some of the issues XCX had. No dual audio options let alone any to speak of and the ridiculously tiny text were a pain to deal with.
If they can also write out the cringey "Let's eat Tatsu xD" garbage on the side, that'd be swell.

Hopefully they'll wait until closer to the game's release to reveal it. The nearly three year wait we had to endure between the reveal and release of XCX simply made it so that the game couldn't possibly be good enough to meet the level of investment I had put in it. As a result, I ended up reasonably disappointed in it (although hopefully another playthrough will remedy that).

Monolith making a game for Switch, ok, to me that is reason alone to buy one. I got a Wii U basically only to play XBX and I love it, still play it today from time to time. Deus Ex Human Revolutions was sweet too

To be honest, I'm not a fan of the human character designs in this game. I can't remember the name of the artist but he also did the character designs in Xenosaga and they looked terrible there too.I feel like his art makes characters look alien because they have near realistic and human proportions but the eyes are simultaneously too big and too far apart. I wish they wouldn't have brought him back

@AndrewJ Nintendo probably doesn't want rumors for new titles to leak out, but they don't mind if information about ports gets leaked out. Retro has been working on a title for about 3 years now and Monolith for about two years now, but we have no idea what they are.

I'm ok with June release for Zelda be nice playing it over the summer months and I thought Monolith maybe doing a sequel but a new project is brill and I wonder if Tantalus is gonna do XCX port for the Switch.
