Retail giant Toys 'R' Us has revealed that it will be getting more stock of the NES Classic Edition in its North American stores this Sunday.
The console has been incredibly hard to find all over the globe, with demand far outstripping supply. Nintendo has stated previously that a steady flow of machines is expected all the way up to Christmas, but Toys 'R' Us is clearly of the mindset that this next shipment is going to go fast.
Speaking to CNBC, a Toys 'R' Us spokesperson said:
On Sunday, we're launching our Great Big Christmas Sale (Dec. 4 thru 10) and the catalog, which is arriving in homes in the coming days, features Hatchimals and NES. Our stores are receiving shipments of both holiday must-haves to support and we expect that when stores open at 8 a.m., they will sell very quickly.
It's not known if other big US retailers will be getting fresh stock. When asked for comment by CNBC, a Target spokesperson said:
Target is actively working to meet guest demand, and will continue to replenish inventory throughout the season.

Good luck everyone
That's good. The more out there, the better.
But what the heck are Hatchimals?
EDIT: Oh, they're ugly penguin things that are also a grab bag because they are surrounded by a disposable plastic shell that are being scalped even more than the MiNES. Why the heck are these things popular?
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Seriously, this is the more important news story: what is a Hatchimal?!
EDIT: Oh god, they're like ugly penguin-bear hybrids that have risen up from hell to enslave the world. Abort.
I'll just wait till after Christmas
If I happen to walk into a store and see it, I might buy it out of impulse, even if I have no initial in it. Just like I did with the Majora's mask new 3ds xl. I can wait.
Glad someone rise awareness of Hatchimals, it's like the tickle me Elmo of this holiday season.
What's Hatchimals? I must be living under a rock if it's a must-have item and I've never heard of it. XD
@CB85 Ugly penguin dolls that cost $70 and are being scalped more that the MiNES. What's the toy's gimmick?
It's a grab bag. A $70 grab bag.
I just seen 2 Famicom Mini's a couple of hours ago in a little game shop inside this mall I was in. Couldn't believe it! He wanted 5000 bath (about £110) for each of them though and wouldn't budge on price.Said he had already sold a few at that price,
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy
Christmas gifts and hottest items are getting weirder every year. A few years back we had Furby..... Ugh. Now that's a bird straight out of hell.
Now a penguin....
I will not be out jumping through Nintendo's Hoop's!
@OorWullie
5000baht? That's long-time pricing!
Nintendo UK Store actually had NES mini controllers for sale this morning, behind the 2nd door of their Advent Calendar promotion.
But they sold out very quickly, and they actually altered the listing to sell t-shirts instead and already de-listed the out of stock controllers.
The nerve, honestly.
Scalpers have their ebay pages ready and waiting to provide fresh stock to the masses at 4x the cost.
I can wait until January when people don't care about this anymore and you can find it for $30.
@Equinox You worded that funny, or maybe not. Kind of reads as if you also want to "get disappointed, pre-order the Nintendo Switch."
Which based on the rumored launch being littered with WiiU ports, disappointed might be the a true statement. But we'll see.
I am interested in Nintendo Switch more than NES Mini, to be honest. Why would I invest $60 for a retro console other than nostalgia?
Let me guess, <5 minutes?
I got mine delivered on release day, but good luck to you all, I hope what stock there is goes to people on here who genuinely want it and will get pleasure out of it.
Sunday morning? What a coincidence, that's the same time every holiday that hot items always come back into stock forever! Santa must deliver them overnight on Saturday.
@Captain_Gonru I know, just let it go, been a long morning.
@blackknight77 Same here, I'd rather not shop on Sunday anyway. Plus the fact that there will be lines of people from the night before pretty much guarantees that only the most dedicated scalpers and other (crazy) people will be able to get one. I really want to grab one, but because Nintendo blew it with short supplying these so retailers could never really open up preorders means that I'll likely need to wait until after the holidays. I'd expect come January or February these will be a little more common.
@Equinox If only I could preorder. Nintendo Switch preorders are as unavailable now as NES Classic Edition preorders were for the nearly six months proceeding its release. Well except for Target that only had them for a short time one morning while other retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy never had them available.
@mikegamer I would guess that it won't be available on their website and that stores will have lines of people waiting to get the maybe three or four that each store receives. But if they did post it on their website it would be gone within seconds. I tried both Amazon and Walmart's websites when they had them available. Both times I was able to get it in my cart but that was as far as either system would let me go. Like amiibo, Nintendo severely underestimated the consumer demand and errored on the side of not producing enough and paired this with a holiday release to maximize demand. It's a marketing strategy they overdo and while it's frustrating to Nintendo fans, these will become available to those who wait it out.
For everybody wondering about Hatchimals, here ya go.
http://www.cnbc.com/2016/12/02/the-hunt-for-hatchimals-snatch-this-years-hottest-toy-without-getting-scammed.html
@Clownshoes how dare you sir! 😉
I laugh at those who hadn't heard of Hatchimals. You all must be living in a Nintendo bubble. I have been aware of Hatchimals for as many as six days, ever since I heard them mentioned on the radio while waiting at the dentist's office. I think the Hatchimals caused my cavity. Still haven't seen them yet. I live in a bubble too. I like it in here.
If this report is true, the scalpers know exactly when to prepare. I don't think this will go well for many who really want this system to have/use. I hope reports follow this restock indicating how many units stores actually get. Hearing widespread reports of stores getting a tiny number of units will be pretty pathetic.
Curses! I thought this was for the UK site.
Sorry, Nintendo - we lost interest about a week ago!
Like others, I'll wait until after Christmas (if my hubby doesn't snag one before then).
They must be promised a lot of units when they are advertising like that. I'm in no panic at all. I've a hacked Wii that plays all the NES games.
Guess how many NES games I played so far this year? Zero.
It's a decent drive to the nearest Toys R Us from where I live, so I'm gonna have to pass.
Only about 8 minutes from my house but I refuse to go stand in line. We'll wait till they're in stock. If this means not getting one till January, that's fine.
I'll be honest, I love Nintendo but I'm about done with this kind of stuff. I don't care if other companies do this stuff too, I don't care if they have a good/bad excuse, I'm just sick of them hyping a product and then you can't find it.
"Our stores are receiving shipments of both holiday must-haves to support and we expect that when stores open at 8 a.m., they will sell very quickly."
It's weird to think about the parallels here with the late 1980's, back when Toys R' Us was begging Nintendo for more NES stock to meet demand, and being refused it beyond a bare minimum. Toys R' Us even tried to aggressively position themselves to resist Nintendo's monopolistic business demands, but came crawling back after Nintendo cut off all NES restocks in response.
Nintendo no longer has anywhere near as much leverage as they did 30 years ago, but there will still be thousands of people camping all night outside of every Toys R' Us in the country tomorrow, because of Nintendo's ingenious strategy... And only a limited few of them shall have their desire quenched. The frenzy will begin shortly thereafter.
I was lucky enough to snag one of the few so-called "Black Friday" New 3DS systems on "Black Thanksgiving" after only a 2 hour wait outside a local Best Buy, and a 5 hour round trip to and from there. That's enough for me.
@Mart1ndo same boat. But my Wii plays everything and more. My Wii u too
Wiihooooooo
Decided to try early morning a couple places and found out I was a day late for Target which did get restocks yesterday morning. 6 in my store (all gone, of course). Got some sweet Zelda amiibo though. They always look so much better in person. I could barely resist. And didn't bother resisting.
Really hope that the stock ramps up in a big way soon. It was not pleasant. ... I think Toys R Us has hoarded supply before for events like this so it might be worth an early morning, but ... it used to be more fun hunting stuff like this and I didn't mind. I'll wait in line for a Switch, but I have to admit it's getting old.
Nintendo is seriously dropping the ball here unless there is a huge surplus coming soon.
I don't even really care any more. If I see one after the holidays, I might pick up one.
@RupeeClock I caught that and preordered one at about 11am and got an order confirmation, I looked back afterwards and it was Sold Out! I still don't have a NES mini, but when/if I manage to get hold of one, I want a second controller for 2 player so figured I better not wait!
How long until this thing is just sitting on the shelf in Target or easily available on Amazon? February? March? Maybe not even March because people could be picking this up when they fail to get a Switch. Hopefully I can get the NES Classic in May or June 2017.
I hope this thing doesn't hurt Switch sales. I can picture some parents deciding that their kid just got a game system and won't buy them a Switch.
@Captain_Gonru I'm sure they're getting some. Maybe even double digits, say 12.
I know a lot of people like to talk about low supply leading to increased demand later on so they can sell as many as they want, but honestly, I think they are going to lose sales from people just giving up buying something else instead. $60 is an impulse buy during the mad holiday shopping season, but in Jan people may just walk by and say forget it.
@WilliamCalley For the 2 week millionaires it is anyway haha
This reminds me of early 2007 when I saw an announcement that they would be getting a shipment Wii's. I waited two hours. There were lots of people in line playing their DS. Good times!
@the-madprofessor i had to look it up myself. My thought was, it's the Furby of this decade. Had to put mine in a drawer to shut it up! Lol!
@Mart1ndo true but the Wii u does more
@aaronsullivan @Captain_Gonru
aarrggghhhh
Looking thru the Sunday December 4th flyers for Best Buy and Target there is not a single mention of Nintendo. Zero. Zilch. Nada. None. No amiibo, no SMM3DS, no New 3DS, no Wii U or 3DS games. No Pokémon plushies or cards or toys. Nuthin. And of course no NES Mini. It's 3 freaking weeks before Christmas and Nintendo builds up Pokémon hype all year and then completely vanishes for the holidays. Ugh.
I know Nintendo doesn't make the ads, it's on Target and Best Buy, but really, Nintendo is a video game toy company, how do you not even exist at Christmas? At least make some Mario pjs. Anything.
Just triple checked. Even Just Dance 2017 is the X1 version, it doesn't even say Wii U on the side. It's a complete and total 100% disappearing act. Just in time for the holidays. Nintendo needs to hire this guy.
@Captain_Gonru "Nintendo pays for the space in those ads"
Well I hope they didn't pay too much this week.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy they seem to be like furby but worse. Reminds me of the power rangers reboot. What was old is new (and worse) again. Get off my lawn.
Got my Famicom mini today so now I have both of the mini Nintendos.
This is exactly how Nintendo will distribute the Switch system to..
Ha they disappeared the moment they arrived. Seems like Nintendo doesn't want money after all otherwise they'll shipped millions and not twenties.
I chose to sleep in Sunday rather than stand in line. I did this on launch day for a Mini, but this Mini is going to my uncle. Meanwhile, I can wait until after Christmas for mine. After all, my birthday is in January!
Also got an Emio Edge Joystick, which I am currently hacking to pieces to work with a real NES...

@Captain_Gonru You mean the JLA HQ? I remember that from the Superfriends. (If you don't mean that, then, uh, nevermind.) Not as cool as the giant Darth Vader football helmet Legion of Doom HQ, but then again, nothing is as cool as the LoD HQ.
Remind me to make this my avatar after the holidays.
They aren't going to stock any before then!? And what about restocks over the course of next week?! This is an absolute outrage!
