My main complaint with these games has always been with how they pretend Johto Pokémon don't exist until the post-game. Would it really hurt anything to give us the option to evolve Golbat before the Elite Four? It's also odd that the Dark type exists, but we have no Dark type Pokémon to use for the majority of the game.
Fever gets criticized a lot for its solo player experience, but I don't think it's much worse than 64 in that department. I grew up with and love 64, but I think its placement is a bit high.
@8bitKirby there’s nothing wrong with having options, nearly every Nintendo system has given us different color options for controllers. Nothing is stopping someone from buying the original colors if that’s what they want.
I don’t understand why so much of the discourse online is calling this a waste of money. The target market for these are families needing an extra set or people needing to replace JoyCons. It’s only a waste if someone’s buying these and doesn’t need a new set, and even then, that’s their choice.
While I'm glad I only have to buy one system these days, I miss when the graphical capabilities between handhelds and home consoles were so different that handheld games ended up being a completely different experience. It's a shame they've not been able to incorporate some of those RPG elements of the earlier handheld entries, but this game does look decent otherwise.
@Don Can confirm that people were complaining about the price of Virtual Console games and were constantly asking for a "Netflix-style" subscription service.
I've grown to like and accept NSO, especially since it means we're not starting from scratch with the available games every time a new console comes out. But I do wish they'd have kept Virtual Console as an option alongside NSO for times like this when an expensive purchase will become unusable after the service ends.
You know Nintendo is doing well when people can't stop talking about it, positive or negative. It was crickets back when they were actually flopping in the Wii U days (outside of the most diehard fans).
Yellow was my first video game ever, but I find Gen 1 so hard to return to nowadays. If Gen 1 comes to NSO, I hope FireRed/LeafGreen isn't too far behind.
@kmtrain83 Interestingly, the standard for movies is 24 FPS and has been since the 1920s/30s. 24 FPS is deeply ingrained in our brains when it comes to movies, so bumping it up to 60 FPS removes that "cinematic" rhythm and motion blur we've become accustomed to.
I’m very excited to finally be able to play VB games, I just hope they give you some display options. I’m not gonna get my hopes up for full color or anything, but it would be nice to change the harsh red to a softer color.
@Yosher That’s my problem too, Ring Fit isn’t very suitable for apartment living. Plus I feel too bad for my downstairs neighbors to really do some of the exercises.
@CANOEberry Data privacy is a valid concern overall, but any applicant who is asked to hand over their phone during an interview should immediately end the interview and leave.
@Akropolon I think the monthly premium pass must be a massive money maker on top of card collectors being a group that spends a lot of money on the hobby. I don't think Go has any kind of similar subscription does it?
@Ramouz I put about 20-30 hours into it before it started feeling repetitive in a bad way. It's a little like Animal Crossing in that it hooks you fast and hard, but these types of games don't keep my attention long term. I still enjoyed it and feel I got my money's worth though.
@DennyCrane I have to agree. The hotel setting unfortunately ended up being a way for them to shoehorn a bunch of outlandish themes into the game rather than being an actual creepy/haunted hotel, although the gameplay was still solid. I think they'll continue to go down the path of "cartoon ghost house" rather than ever going back to the genuinely eerie atmosphere of the first game
@iLikeUrAttitude It depends on the Pokémon’s location, but shiny hunting is overall very easy in this game. You can just fast travel/sit on benches over and over to reshuffle the spawns in an area, and since shinies don’t despawn, they’ll still be there when you go in to check for shinies.
I love this site and have read it regularly for 15 years, but you all are really milking the clicks you get from negative Legends ZA headlines. The vast majority of people who have actually played it generally like it (despite its flaws), and most negative comments and user ratings seem to come from people who haven’t actually played it. This site’s own review gave it a 7/10 which is a good score, and it was one of the lower reviews compared to other sites.
I'm fine with unimportant NPCs walking around to give the game more atmosphere. But I hate when you have to talk to an NPC for a quest, and they move around throughout the in-game day. Makes it really annoying to track them down.
I'm content with the subscription service overall, especially since it means we don't start over with the drip feed of retro game releases with each new console generation.
Everyone wants voice acting, but I'm honestly glad I don't have to turn my TV volume down every time there's a cutscene with loud/annoying voices. If anything, I'd like them to replace the Pokémon cries with something a little more in line with what the anime does, the older Pokémon sound so out of place these days.
@Ham-n-jam The constant criticism is probably a sign of its success because it’s staying in the discourse. When something is a failure, people criticize for a short period of time and then move on. Kind of like how nobody outside of dedicated fans was talking about the Wii U after a while.
I’ve never been a big fan of games that go overboard with crossover characters. I could understand throwing in a few characters from other SEGA games, but characters like SpongeBob sort of dilute the original intent of the game in my opinion.
@RoboCube That was more so what I was getting at, the original's visuals still hold up incredibly well for me. It's impressive what they were able to accomplish with the Wii.
Maybe I'm getting old, but I would never be able to notice a lot of these visual upgrades unless I see them directly next to the original like in that video.
It’s no excuse for laziness, but I have such a high tolerance for subpar graphics and mostly only care about gameplay. Probably a result of growing up with the N64.
@molkom if you go back to the game, make sure you do a little research on which launch Pokémon to not transfer. There are a few Pokémon from launch that have moves that aren't available anymore, so it's possible that you have some rare ones and may not realize it.

Re: Pokémon-Themed Mini Game Boy Announced, Though It's Not What You Think
@Pally356 HitClips. My sister had them, they were a fun but impractical novelty even back then.
Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Pokémon FireRed And LeafGreen On Switch
Glad they’ve left the borders around the game blank, I’m always afraid that the border design in NSO games will burn into my OLED TV screen.

@rjejr ZL + ZR will open a menu where you can create/load save states, return to the game selection, etc.
Re: Mini Review: Escape From Ever After (Switch) - The Closest We've Yet Come To A Brand-New, Old-School Paper Mario
I’m nearly finished with it, this game has scratched my Paper Mario itch more than Bug Fables did. It’s got excellent mechanics and a really fun plot.

Re: ICYMI: Paper Mario-Styled RPG 'Escape From Ever After' Has Launched On Switch
@Tyranexx Wish I could experience PM64 for the first time again. Bug Fables is a pretty solid spiritual successor, but it's just not the same.
Re: Super Mario Galaxy Movie's New Trailer Shares A "First Look" At Yoshi
From what we’ve seen so far, this movie looks like it borrows more from Odyssey than it does Galaxy.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
@Yoshi3 As much as I loved BOTW, I cannot wait for the end of this era of every major game needing an open world.
Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC Is Introducing A New Type Of Mega Evolution
