Those of you who have been living under a rock for the past month might be shocked to learn that a new Star Wars movie has just hit cinemas. Our friends over at iretrogamer.com attended a special showing at the Alamo Drafthouse in Houston, and decided to ask some fans which Star Wars video games they held closest to their hearts.
Unsurprisingly, Nintendo games came up a fair bit, with Super Star Wars, Shadow of the Empire and Episode 1: Racer all getting honourable (and, in the case of Racer, not so honourable) mentions.
Give it a watch and be sure to also check out our feature on the best Nintendo Star Wars titles ever.

I don't see why Episode I: Racer gets so much hate. It's the only only good thing about Episode I, aside from Duel of Fates.
@allav866
Episode 1 Racer should not get any hate period. That is a real good game even if someone is not a fan of the prequels its worth playing
Um rouge squadron one and 2 please, that's all I need from Star Wars!
From early PC days to PS4 today, I've had fun through a lot of years of Star Wars games.
Love Episode I Racer. Would be here all day talking SW games but I got presents to wrap 🎅🏼
TIE Fighter always and forever.
It's quite interesting when you dig into Star Wars games as several people worked on many different titles.
@blackknight77 Seriously. I don't get why people hate Episode 1 Racer. I thought it was great. I guess because people just don't like the prequels so anything associated with them automatically get hate?
@OneBagTravel That was such a great game, I really miss Lucasarts game studio. Dark Forces was awesome too as was X-Wing Alliance.
@Mr_Zurkon X-Wing Alliance was amazing. I spent £90 on a joystick for it, and it was worth it.
Mine are:
TIE FIGHTER (best game of all time) (PC)
The Force Unleashed (Wii)
Rebel Assault (PC)
Dark Forces (PC)
Super Star Wars Trilogy (VC)
Wow, was not expecting to see footage from that old Atari 2600 Star Wars game! I had forgotten about that one.
Also, Angry Birds Star Wars ftw!
... we need more Star Wars games on Nintendo platforms ASAP.
"Angry Birds Star Wars" does not count btw. I'm talking "Rogue Squadron" caliber stuff.
Talking bantha poodoo about Episode 1: Racer? It's a great game! That two controller mode has to be experienced.
More nerds talking about how bad the prequels are, I am so tired of that conversation, it's been beat to death and it's pretty clear you either liked them or hated them. Move on already.
That being said I loved Jedi Outcast on the GameCube, Not that it is that retro.
No mention of the Rogue Squadron games?
THIS IS PURE BLASPHEMY.
@allav866 Agreed. I guess it's because the people hating have never actually played it. Seems to be the in thing to do these days.
It had very good graphics, excellent controls, challenge and lots of tracks for its era. The music is the only area that it can be hated on in my opinion, but even at that it is more than serviceable.
Shadows of the Empire. Played so many hours on that game back in the day!
@AVahne I too was surprised this never came up while we were filming. Thanks for watching!
Haha I still have that Atari 2600 cartridge in the garage! that's a classic example of old school video gaming back then, where it just gets impossibly hard the longer you carry on, with no end in sight!
For me it would be the PC x-wing/tie fighter games. Great stuff. Makes me wish I didn't take a 20 year console break for college/MMOs...
Tie fighter on PC or Kotor
Let's see, my favorite Star Wars games:
Star Wars Arcade (32X)
Star Wars Trilogy (Arcade)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D (PC)
Star Wars Episode I: Battle for Naboo (PC)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader (GC)
Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike (GC)
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (GBA)
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (PC)
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Wii)
Star Wars The Force Unleashed (Wii)
Any love for Namco Star Wars?
When is THAT game going to get a movie?
@allav866
Eh, I'd argue that their is a few good things to come out of 'The Phantom Menace'. I've been re watching all the Star Wars films in preparation for 'The Force Awakens', and I'd have to say that Qui Gon Jin and Darth Maul were pretty cool. Say what you will, but I also think that the Obi Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn Vs. Darth Maul Lightsaber Duel at the end is one of the best battles in the entire series (even my dad agrees with me on that, and he grew up with the original trilogy and hates the prequels like most people).
As for why people dislike Episode I: Racer, it probably has something to do with Prequel bias. Basically, what I mean by that is that some people hate the prequels so much that they seem to think that anything with any sort of relation to them is complete rubbish, even if the product in question (in this case, Episode I: Racer) is really not that bad.
I would like to join the gentlemen above: Episode I: Racer was great and I played it to death on PC. With so much love for FAST Racing Neo going on around here, you really have to try Racer now, it was a great futuristic racer.
