So by now we're assuming you've all seen the absolutely monstrous amount of Switch info we the public have been privy to, but it's just not complete without having someone's face tell you their own opinions about what happened.
If that sounds like your sort of thing for whatever reason, make sure you check out the video above where you can experience just that, and perhaps even leave a comment below giving your two cents on the situation.

The UK price and the lack of Mario at launch has put me off pre-ordering I'm afraid
had it been around £200 I'd have been more interested but I do fear at £279.99 other than hardcore fans it will turn a lot of potential impulse buyers away.
I hope we get a Nintendo direct next to show off more launch titles
Mario Oddysey looked a little unatural and odd....but fun anyways. Kinda freeky with the jump roap scene.
Will there be virtual console?
My impression about Switch presentation = Great job, 8 from 10.
Well, I still noticed some flaws but it still tolerable for me. Hopefully more awesome games for upcoming release.
Yeah ...It was just OK. The trailers totally made up for it though, so I'm generally pleased.
@oats-81 That's EXACTLY what I thought! Is it me or does Mario look like a version of himself as when played by a dude in a suit being mute at e3? Very odd....
The really scaring thing that's putting me off pre-ordering is lack of great launch titles (at least at the moment) and the price off additional joy-cons and the pro controller over £60 each is madness
No presentation is perfect. But for what was shown, and the fact that much more will be shown throughout Friday, I would say this is a good unveiling of the finer NS details.
No Mario at launch has put me off. I just have to wait a year
Not getting it. It's $399.99 in Canada. More expensive than a PS4. I'll wait a couple of years for the price drop.
I think my only problem with the presentation was the lack of launch titles shown. I think so far they only confirmed 2 I believe, and only one of them I actually care about (being Zelda). Everything else shown either didn't have a release date, or it wasn't a launch title.
I'd like to believe that 2 launch games isn't all they have to offer, so here's hoping for more launch announces. That being said, the games the Switch has coming to it looks very promising.
Basically I have the same reservations that many other people do. The console looks great, the features look amazing, the games? Lacking. I still don't get how Nintendo who suffered from a lack of games for the Wii U.... would not make GAMES the main feature of their presentation?
I pre ordered a switch this morning in anticipation. My first reaction to the presentation was to cancel. I dont know exactly why but i think unclear launch titles and the fire emblem turned out to be a warriors game blech. Lack of mario launch hurts too.
I havent cancelled for now but damn its expensive, more than a base ps4. If its alot weaker than ps4 in graphics it hurts because i really want ff7 remake and ffxv. It seems unlikely they will come to switch and i cant buy both a ps4 and a switch. They better clarify the launch titles and the months of releases in first year.
It wasn't a grand blowout of info like E3 2014 or the Smash Wii U Presentation, but it was still worthwhile. They got the message out, and now they need to keep it up.
It was OK. If not for Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Mariokart 8 Deluxe, I would probably wait until the holidays. The price and lack of varying bundles, along with the battery length, is concerning.
@NX64
Like those money-grubbers in lame character suits in Times Square lookin to take a picture. Its ok tho.... Nintendo. Ha.
I had a few problems with it:
1) Having to pay to play online (There goes Mariokart in the bin)
2) No Console with Game bundles
3) Only grey controller or blue and red controllers whilest console itself grey
@bolt05 Warriors games are actually quite fun when they don't feature samurai. Hyrule Warriors & the Gundam Dynasty Warriors series are actually pretty amazing games.
Personally I'm not sure why Koei make great games for other people's licenses & make their own so boring. :/
Not sure what to think honestly. It's Wii level of controller options again. The extra controllers and memory card will be expensive too. ARMS looks interesting but I'd have to buy extra joycon to play with a friend. I only plan on getting a spare Pro and that's it for now. Also the red/blue joycons are garish. What is Nintendo thinking? Neapolitan Ice Cream Sandwich?
I preordered one at Amazon UK, but somehow I doubt there'll be a shortage of them.. unless contrived.
I went into that live presentation so excited; but I'm not sure how I'm feeling since~
The Switch Presentation Was Very Bad, Just Not Utterly Abysmal
@StarDust4Ever Neapolitan Ice Cream S(and)wich? What would the flavours be? Strawberry, blueberry & death?
The only game I saw that looks interesting is Super Mario Oddyse. The rest looked boring. Not many games coming at launch, a paid for online service (and nintendo has always been known as the worst with online services, so why pay for horrible services), no trophies or achievements shown, which is a good way to get many to re-play games, a pretty high price considering it'll be the same cost as the PS4 and XBONE which are more powerful and offer more at the time of the Switch's launch, and a real quick look at other games coming to the system in a real quick video at the end. At least they could have shown all the games that will be available at launch and prices of the accessories for the system...especially when it will cost the consumer $360 for the system and a game at launch, which will be pretty high. I'm excited for the system, but I won't be a day one buyer...I'll wait until more comes out and probably purchase one by the holiday season, up until then, I'll stock up on games for it and wait. Also, Micro SD cards are pretty pricey, but it's a nice addition that you can add a lot more storage space, but it still didn't really showcase the whole system. Hopefully the treehouse presentation will show a little more info.
If you don't want to use this on the go, then get a PS4 instead... At least for now. It will be cheaper and have lots of cheap games as it's been out for a while.
But once a couple of good exclusives come to this, you'll regret it. Remember this is a console and handheld. Once you have a Switch, no more hardware purchases for 5 plus years...
Regardless of the price, it's a cheap and simple investment for me.
I gave it a 7 out of 10 and I am very critical of Nintendo.
I think they are holding information back and much more will be reveal before the launch through a Direct or such.
To confirm ONE launch game (the 1-2 game has got to be packed in) during the whole presentation makes no sense unless there is yet another presentation at a later date.
I don't care if the presentation is perfect, as long as they deliver the games, I'm all for it.
Overall I really like the Switch hardware but am concerned how much it'll cost once you've added up a 128/256Gb SD card, pro controller, case etc etc...
As far as games go it's good Nintendo are getting 3rd party support but at this early stage it looks like devs are being very cautious and a lot are just releasing old ports - Skyrim, Streetfighter 2, Neo Geo collection, Rayman Legends etc...
For me the only games I really want are Zelda, Mario and maybe Mario Kart if cheap enough (as already have it on Wii U) so I hope they have some good stuff in the pipeline to show off at E3.
Metroid Prime 4, Wave Race, Advance Wars etc would make me a happy bunny! Also now they only have to support one console instead of two (when 3DS/Wii U are finally killed off anyway) their output for one console whould be much higher right?
The joy-cons look ridiculously small. I'm not interested in the tech with those things. The games that wrre shown are pretty good though. Zelda looks incredible.
Looking like similar mistakes to Wii U, I fear:
What's happened to formatting here?
@gcunit Yeah 1 2 Switch looks like the perfect game to add as a pack-in also. Unless it has some hidden depth to it. Certainly doesn't look a full price retail game to me!
@Marios-love-child This is the fault of Brexit - The price would have been around £200 without the change in Pound dropping against Dollar/yen value. as the consensus is that the pound will drop maybe 10-20% more - The risk of this has to be built into the price I blame David Cameron and Theresa May and Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.
@bolt05 Final Fantasy on the Switch? Are you joking?
I can't wait for the Mario Hat Amiibo!
it looks like a great step up if you're a 3DS owner, but as a Wii U owner it's just not a compelling proposition at launch. I've already played far too much Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon to want to return to them for a couple of extra maps and characters which could also be delivered to Wii U as DLC. Zelda is a killer launch title, but as it's not a title that will lend itself to portable play, so Wii U version is good for me.
The console is overpriced, and that's not even taking into account a micro SD card, and it looks like another drought of legitimate 3rd party support. Wii U redux?
Why so much coverage given to Arms either, unless it's a free title bundled with the console? The gameplay looks about as deep as a puddle.
Why wouldn't they cover the Virtual Console and GameCube support, or announce what Retro is working on? What are the launch titles? Bizarre and foolish, but that's Nintendo.
I really want the Switch to be successful, but the presentation really was a blow to my hopes.
Will probably wait and see and buy it lateron. I generally like the switch. But its not a killer app IMHO.
What I didnt like is the paid online multiplayer. Nintendo is the underdog. Free online multiplayer would be a good thing. I dont play that much online - sometimes its even weeks that I dont care about it. If I had to pay for it I might give it a pass but would certainly miss it every now and then.
Will end up buying the switch this year just not sure when as i hope Gamemania will have some good offers like they did when the new 3ds.
Also why is it a problem that Mario not at launch as i like the way their releasing the games this year as so far you got something to look forward to each month or so
I loved everything. I'd like to have a few more launch titles but I feel that zelda will keep me occupied for a while.
@FengLong Amazon UK has already sold through all of it's stock. . :/
I have bought every single Nintendo console released to date, but I'm really worried the Switch will feel dated from the moment it's released, I'm not convinced as others have already mentioned that it will be much of a step up over Wii U in terms of performance, also I know not everyone cares for them but many people do, where is the achievement system? this is a major thing for me and adds so much incentive to any games I play, it can't be right that a feature that's been around so long since the PS3/Xbox 360 days is still not used by Nintendo, achievements would be fantastic in Nintendo games IMO and was a major reason I hardly touched my Wii U.
@Captain_Gonru "Why show basically no launch day titles?"
Actual reason? Probably b/c Zelda is the only 1 they need to sell all the stock they'll make. Other reasons, b/c there aren't any, and what there are are ports. But basically everything they showed was a mess. A disjointed poorly translated low excitement confusing mess. They should remake the thing into a great 45 minute Direct, the info is in there, but it was handheld so poorly.
Starting w/ "paid online" was a mistake before they told us what games there were. MK8 Deluxe in April and Spla2oon in summer should be enough for every person in Japan who wants one and most people elsewhere as well to pay for online. And I'm guessing we'll get SSB Complete this holiday, a port next to new Mario Adventure, that's a good CHirstmas.
Why mention "no region lock" while discussing 1-2 Switch and Arms. The people who care about region locking don't care about those games, people who like those games don't know what region locking means.
Half the trailers blended together, couldn't tell when one ended and the other began and what games they were for. XC2 deserved more focus. That Squenix one was jarring from all the good looking games before it, then retro graphics. ugh. Then why say "DQ10 and 11 in Japan". Surely they'll come west. Eventually.
Probably in retrospect making an event in Japan mid-day than picking somebody at random out of the audience to translate it for the west was a bad idea. They probably should have just left it in Japanese and dubbed it later online, maybe after a whole lot of editing, like including "Wii U" next to the 3/3 Zelda date.
What is that FIFA game, FIFA or not?
But the horrific live event aside, the info is there -
Zelda at launch, 3 price pints, people will spend $300 for Zelda on the go, so Switch sells
MK8D and Spla2oon means people will pay for online this summer
Skyrim and FIFA means at least some 3rd party support
$300 isn't bad for a hybrid
Mario Odyssey this holiday, 'nuff said
touch screen confirmed (though nobody used it)
Big disappointment was the lack of anything "Wow". No BG&Ee or Pikmin 4. Where is Pikmin 4 that Miyamoto said was almost done Oct 2015 or whenever he said it. Where was the tidal wave of launch titles that they delayed the system until March for? $299 is a lot after the $249 rumour when you don't bundle a game and it only has 32GB.
So it was a mess, no wow, but Switch should have a good first year considering Nitneod is only planning on selling a handful to the die hard. Christmas will be telling, they'll need a bundle, ether MK8D, SSBC or Mario. And on sale BF weekend for $249.
But amiibo support confirmed, so you came out ahead. (I'm still waiting on Cloud and Bayonetta, maybe this weekend.)
@cfgk24
I agree that Brexit could be partly to blame but if that's the case why have Sony & Microsoft consoles come down in price rather than going up?
If Nintendo want this thing to sell they need to price it a lot more competitively and that means cheaper than a PS4 or Xbone.
If it was £279.99 with Mario bundled then that I could get on board with but it's an awful lot to ask for a console alone when you can pick up a PS4 with a few games for the same price
It was a terrible presentation. I will never understand Nintendo fans. Some people will just praise the company no matter what they do. There were no major launch games aside from Zelda, no western third party support, and just a plain lack of games all together. It's the same exact thing they did with the Wii U launch.
@cfgk24 Amazon UK doesn't say sold out for me. It still says preorder.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nintendo-UK-Switch/dp/B01MFADJFV/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1484313586&sr=1-1&keywords=nintendo+switch
Edit: Oh yeah, I see now they're still taking preorders but say their initial allocation has sold through.
Honestly, while I did like this presentation, I'd be Bowser-lying when I say it is one the best shows I've seen from Nintendo. There were times that I felt meh about it, but neither of that ruined the experience for me
I think the news was there it's just Nintendo did not deliver it to the viewers. Sure I'm stoked for many of the games but they are almost all post launch titles. After the presentation while looking through websites I discovered more titles several of the which may make launch. Sure, Breath of a Wild may be the only big launch title but I can't remember the last time a console launching with 2 big titles that weren't multi platform or had launched shortly prior on other platforms.
@Don I would imagine they didn't announce anything virtual console wise because it is an absolute certainty that it will be there.
The real question is whether it will have GameCube games.
@pinta_vodki Why? What Did It Not Have That You Wanted? Let's Discuss. (Why Is Everything In Caps?)
Maybe I will pick one up during Black Friday 2018.
I honestly can't figure out how anybody could be excited about the Switch. There is not one single aspect that interests me.
@cfgk24 Amazon hasn't got any stock, they said they were only taking pre orders in Japan in a week or so. These retailers are just taking names at the moment until they know how much stock they will be getting
Very lackluster, happy I sold my Wii U and went Xbox One instead.
Super Mario Odyssey looks absolutely weird, Mario looks out of place in that modern city setting, and the other levels didn't look much better! And the other games announced where not exactly hype worthy.
The price of the systems basic bundle is going to be $300, which is way too much considering you can get a ps4 and xbox one s that have higher graphics, tons of great games on them already, and a good amount of hdd space for just a tiny bit more cash!
Nope, not impressed Nintendo. This presentation showed me Nintendo hasn't learned anything from its mistakes, and that third party developers are still very much wary of making games for your system.
Good luck to you Nintendo, but I'm personally done with you.
@StarDust4Ever
But I like Light blue color for Joy Con.
It doesn't matter Red or Blue, It looks so colorful.
@Dysnomia
Yeah that and whether we have to pay to redownload VC games purchased previously.
I'm glad we finally can hear Alex's opinion
That Squid guy ruined it for me...
@freaksloan
I understand your concern. Everybody are unique and have their own taste.
For me, Nintendo finally did a little bit better job, BUT still has some flaws that should be fixed. For the game lines, I was impressed by Super Mario Oddysey (Finally, 3D Mario ala 64/ Sunshine) and ARMS ( Because I have interest with Cute Boxing games. Also, the damage points that shown raised my impression because that was my expectation). Well, take your time. While waiting for next year, i'm sure you will find your favorite games.
@Pokefanmum82 its region free, is it worth it to import the system?
Didn't the SNES launch with like two games though? I remember the PS4 and 3DS having garbage launches too, at least we know what's coming
@JLPick I have to agree with everything. Super Mario was the only interesting thing and I was hoping for launch but I guess I can wait another year
Iffy presentation that shows the Switch is going to have a weak launch but a promising future.
Overall I don't think it was great. Zelda is amazing, as is Mario but other than that nothing blew me away. 32GB of storage is crap. The price is too much. So many people came on stage and showed nothing. Or we seen clips of games that are way off from release like Xenoblade 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors or SMT.
Not really since the Canada dollar is really crappy right now.
First impressions of the presentation for me were not great. It was pretty avaerage overall. I think they would have benefited from letting the respected regional heads lead a specific presentation for their regions.
I think the launch lineup is pretty weak. If one were to give and impulsive forecast, I'd say this will sell more systems than the Wii U because of portability. However, this won't come close to touching total sales for systems like PS4.
Things could change. A Pokémon Stars would go along way in selling systems.
Personally to me, I thought Nintendo touched base on everything they needed to and had some awesome titles to show.
Mario Kart Deluxe scratched me right where I itched with a new battle mode finally the return of Bowser Jr, and the Inklings (still no Diddy Kong)
Splatoon 2 was just marvelous. Again and again these developers have continued to make this franchise great, can't wait to play the new game
Super Mario Oddesey gives me a Galaxy feel and how cool is it Mario get's to run around New York
Breath of the Wild again stunned me. I'm almost certain the guy with the deep voice is the King of Hyrule from Wind Waker, looks to be the sequel
Overall great Job Ninty
Will wait. Too expensive, expensive controllers, lack of compelling software, some crazy notion that anybody cares about these motion-controlled casual games anymore, poor battery life, paid online, rehashes galore, tiny controllers, no big third party support...le sigh
Nothing really convinced me to get one at launch, this just looks like another Wii U to me. And while the Wii U was ok, I don't want another repeat of game shortages and a short lifespan (Which Nintendo have entirely to blame for themselves by the way).
All I'm saying is I haven't seen anything that shouts "This is different, we've learned from our mistakes!" although the few games that do interest me like Mario and Spla2oon look good. Maybe I'll get one next year.
I've bought every Nintendo console since the nes! I won't be buying a switch sadly. I hope Nintendo either have huge success or huge failure with this console. Huge success will mean they talk me around 👍🏻 Huge failure should mean Nintendo become a 3rd party publisher so more people can experience their great games.
It left unanswered questions like is VC and Game Cube VC coming for it? if not I will cancel my preorder.
The presentation was not good. They didn't show a lot of functionalities of the Switch itself and I think that is one of the most important things they should've at least put on their website. I am really curious as to what extra functionalities the Switch has...For example, does it support Virtual Console? Am I able to download apps such as Netflix? Is the online actually good this time around and does it support (voice)chat and parties?
I am not convinced and the price is way too high for the system itself, the accessories and the mediocre subscription service. They offer NES and SNES games, why? A lot of people have bought and played those games loads of times, recently with the Mini-NES.
I'm very happy with both my 3DS and my recently bought PS4 (not so happy with my Wii U tbh) they have both great libraries and the PS4 has a great online system and subscription service. I hope the 3DS will get supported with at least one more Pokémon game because I will not be buying a Switch and the general audience will probably prefer a cheaper PS4 or XBOX One with great libraries and support over the more expensive Switch.
I personally hope Nintendo redeems itself with the E3 but I have low expectations. I am looking forward too the mobile games tho, Super Mario Run was a lot of fun and sparked my love for Mario once again!
@Pj1 Nothing so far, expect it to be ignored as much as it was this past generation. GCN VC about a year after launch if we're lucky.
Even had I the money I'd have to be in a very forgiving mood to pre-order day one after this. Mario and Zelda were the only things I cared about; time that could have been spent on useful things like if there is an account system and how the VC will work was wasted on five-six generic JRPGs.
Nintendo came off out of touch as ever. Looks like they've learned nothing. I guess I'll buy the thing down the line but only the most ardent of fanboys could view this as the smashing success it had to be.
Marginally moist @alex_olney
lol
Orange + blue combination doesn't look too appealing. I like the black/grey much better.
Also I won't be buying the Switch. 300$, paid online, no games at launch except for Zelda, not enough third party support for future. Mario looked amazing but I won't be waiting till the holidays to play it.
Unless Nintendo drops the price, I can't see it selling either, in fact, I'd be surprised if it managed to surpass Wii U sales at this point.
@Captain_Gonru "And why do I need a smart phone to chat online? That stood out to me more than the "paid online" bit. They couldn't get the system to do two whole things at once?"
No, probably not. Just kidding, probably to make parents happy, everybody in Japan already has a smartphone. PS4 has a really good app, curse it has really good built in stuff as well.
And I realized about the carts this morning looking at the weird boxes. I have to get my head around that, carts to me are for kids, like Trix cereal, I want my discs dagnabbit. But I have a whole year to get used to the cart idea by Christmas.
@InternetBowser Wow, you read all that? I meant it for Gonru, he's used to my very long windedness, and we've been waiting years for this event. Man, I need a nap.
I don't mind the lack of launch titles. I believe Breath of the Wild is a huge game and will take up a lot of my time.
NINTENDO!!! i fell in love with the switch! u guys nailed it.
i already love the Xenoblade so that one is a must buy for me, also Dragon quest! awesome and lovely graphics.
Mario also blown me away love it, i love the new direction with it.
also the Breath of the wild trailer it took my ''breath'' away i love it even more (How is that even possible) i also love the voice acting! the English and the Japanese, i would love to choose between the two the japanese style gives an Manga style to it lol
I think the presentation was a perfect example of how these stage reveals have grown old and stale. Directs are perfect because they can shoot as many takes as needed. If you come off wooden and terrible you can do it again(some still come off that way regardless). I've been cringing at all games companies E3 presentation for a few years now. Grown men discussing video games and showing,not so sincere at times, enthusiasm is a hard sell. The presentations nintendo were doing were working out fine. On top of that they are leading with two games nobody asked for or wanted Ala nintendoland, that won't end well. Third party support was darn near nonexistent. We didn't even see one M rated shooter, not one. Considering that's what is over saturating the market at this moment it should give us a clue about the third party support available. I just can't be excited about Nintendo still trying to reach the masses. That ship sailed a while ago. It was time to draw all of us gamers in, not just us fan boys either. It was time to say,"we will get all the games from all third parties" not " here are all the games you can only get here". I think if five MAJOR third party games would have been shown we'd be ready to see all the switch exclusives. Where were the games at? What are we getting like five games for launch?
Then there is the storage 32gb? Are you freaking kidding me? This pretty much guarantees to me that the specs will be equally unimpressive. Nintendo once again put money where it really shouldn't have(joy cons). These things can't be too cheap as they have a crap ton of technology in them. Why not make standard controls and throw a few bucks more at your specs.
I really hope the specs are up to par. I just can't imagine having a wii u 1.5 in regards to power. The one and ps4 have been out for nearly 4 years now. The switch should be able to mop the floor with their specs and do it on the cheap. I'm afraid that unless this catches on like the wii did, we're pretty much screwed.I'm gonna call it now. If by summer you don't have folks out playing this thing in the parks and everywhere else people gather this system will go the way of the wii u.😯
Way way way way too many gimmicks! Dam Nintendo!
If the 3DS has taught us anything it's that Switch will be £230 by Christmas and the free online will stretch to next march for early buyers.
After such presentation, at such price and with such poor launch lineup I don't see any reason why anyone should jump on the Switch ship at launch, ultrafanboys excluded.
Even Zelda, the biggest launch title, comes cheaper on wiiU
@arnoldlayne83
Still a must buy for me
The switch itself seems good. The main problems I see are the pricing model, charging for online and the lack of good games different to those on Wii U for the first year.
All those problems can be rectified by nintendo if they wish so I'm not writing the switch off yet.
The rest of the internet is pretty negative about the Switch. Hopefully in another year they will have turned it around but right now this is looking like Wii U 2 levels of success
Is this comment section a parody? Amazing theatrics...
Screw you! Nothing is ever perfect for you people. The presentation was great just chill
Looked ok to me, have pre-ordered.
Still lots to answer but I think it'll have good games and fit my lifestyle (one telly, two kids.)
Really want achievements...
Think Nintendo need to produce the following directs and broadcast them once a week for the next couple of weeks:
1. Launch Titles trailers and info
2. eShop/VC + what happens to downloaded games you already own
Then mid Feb a direct that re-shows the above along with a simple but informative look at the console (produced for each region not dubbed)
This way it will help keep the hype up, give more people the chance to learn about the Switch (keep it trending, people talking on facebook and kicking about on youtube)
3.
@walrusballs They're having a meltdown...best to let them vent.
@gcunit I completely agree. I was saying before the presentation but it really seems like Nintendo didn't learn that much from the Wii U. Overpriced system with a lack of launch games, limited internal storage, underpowered hardware and now paid online. For me I thought it was a solid presentation but I was expecting more, especially in regards to the launch. I feel like the Switch wont really be worth buying for until next year.
Wow didn't expected this much negativity to the Switch even though I had my reserves before. Aside from the price complains (which I kinda understand) I don't know what people expected.
What you thought you'd had a Metroid, Zelda, Mario and Pokemon all in the same year? At launch? Or that you'd see FFXV and FFVII shown? Perhaps all Dark Souls and even Bloodborne because lets get unrealistic?
Or maybe you thought you'd see all of the VC catalog on day one with like 20 new GC games and all at half the price? I mean this all doesn't sound unrealistic right?
It had ups and downs but was fairly good, that price though is just too high. Where are the launch titles?
@walrusballs
'Screw you' because people express different opinions?
The internet meltdowns have started!
@Kmno
That's unrealistic. Nobody was asking for that.
@Captain_Gonru What's a windows phone? You might as well get a dumb flip-phone and stop pretending you own a smartphone. Not that our 4 cheap Android phones can run anything anyway.
@electrolite77 then what? Because I sincerely don't understand what people were expecting out of this. I went with no expectations and came out satisfied.
@electrolite77 while you all are pooping your pants about, carrying little poop nugs in your diaper like the babies you are, I'll be enjoying the switch to the fullest without a simple complaint. Nintendo has earned it this time P:
@WiltonRoots ya I really don't mind but common they had lazers at the beginning of the presentation (DoD)/
I liked this presentation a lot generally, but considering the success and the resulting diversity of the library of the Wii U, they should have secured at least ONE FPS game for the big presentation.
I am very excited of the Joy Cons though.
Just one game too few(and "you'll see it later" is not good enough after Wii U; we cannot be certain about anything. They should try harder and show games now as well as later)
That presentation was a huge "meh"...I went from "Day One" to a "Wait for price cut".
Zelda BOTW, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Xenoblade 2 all look great. Throw in the rumored Smash Bros Wii U port and Pokémon Stars, and you have a solid year 1 first party game lineup from Nintendo. This blows the Wii U and 3DS year 1 lineup out of the water, even if Xenoblade 2 is likely to be released outside of Japan in 2018.
On the other hand, the console is too expensive. $300 with no bundled game, a paid online service whose cost is still unknown, and ridiculously overpriced accessories means I won't be buying a Switch at launch until either the price of the Switch and its accessories are lowered, or if the paid online service is like $20 per year. Sorry, monthly NES/SNES game rentals and basic online functionality, most of which is done via smartphone, isn't worth $50 per year.
Western 3rd party publishers seem reluctant to support the platform. That would have been fine for me, if it weren't for the fact that the Switch and its accessories was so expensive and that there a is now paid online service. There better be a ton of multiplayer games on Switch, from both 1st and 3rd party developers, because if there isn't, then I won't subscribe to service, unless it is cheaper than expected, like $20 as I stated before.
Interesting to read all the other comments. I went to bed last night without watching / reading any other 'reactions'. I was blown away by Mario. I was happy to see ACE back for Xenoblade 2 music. I liked the brief flash of balloons in Mario Kart multiplayer. I liked that they designed a shim to add to the Joycons to make them larger. I liked the region free. It seemed as though nintendo hit a lot of bullet points that were direct responses to fan feedback.
Now I have read this page and some others. Yeah, 32 GB is horrid. No mention of Virtual Console was strange (didn't even consider that last night). The price of the Pro Controller seems... steep. Fifa Skyrim and NBA 2K18 at launch seems a lot like the WiiU launch (Fifa, NBA 2K12, Batman, Mass Effect 3, etc.)- as in: more than no third party support, but not that strong. I do like that Ubisoft's Steep is coming.
And yeah, where is Retro these days? As for Splatoon 2, I loved seeing the map invoked by button and player warp by dpad-- I'd been saying that's how I wanted to play Splatoon 1 (with a Pro Controller) since launch. Enjoy the taste of crow, Splatoon motion fanboys!
Now that think about it, seeing Mario in New York pretty much fried my criticism circuits. I may be paying $300 just for Mario Odyssey. Stunning looking game.
Still don't give a hoot about carrying my Switch to a party or playing in a park. Probability of commercial flop... 63%.
There's a few big problems from the presentation that's preventing me from being a Day 1 adopter. Firstly, the price is too high. It's more expensive over here than a PS4 Slim bundled with games.
Secondly, the lack of games. At launch, there's no games that are absolute must-haves for me. I'm discounting Zelda since I have a Wii U. Mario is the only game that I'm really eager to play.
I'll probably want Splatoon 2, Xenoblade and Mario Kart if I had a Switch, but I've already got games of those series on the Wii U, so these aren't gonna convince me to buy a new console.
@Captain_Gonru So get this price breakdown that just occurred to me based on accessory pricing -
$299 Switch console = $90 dock, $80 2 joycons, $30 grip $16 straps = $216
meaning Nintnod is saying the Swtich tablet itself is only worth $84. If they sold the Sitch alone - no controllers or charger, just the tablet - they are saying it is only worth $84 based on the prices in the $299 box. That's just wrong.
SKU DETAILS
Nintendo Switch console
Nintendo Switch dock
Joy-Con (L) and Joy-Con (R)
Two Joy-Con strap accessories
One Joy-Con grip
HDMI cable
Nintendo Switch AC adapter
Maybe I did my math wrong somewhere, but that's what it looks like to me. One caveat, there are 2 "Joy-Con Grips", $15 and $30 which charges, not sure which one comes in the $299 box. But essentially Nintendo is claiming $100 for the tablet if you bought everything separtly. How powerful can that be?
@aaronsullivan @ThanosReXXX for old times sake
@rjejr
I'm pretty sure Nintendo is selling most of those Switch accessories at a healthy profit.
I am VERY doubtful that the dock is worth $90, especially since it doesn't do anything other than upscale the Switch from 720p to 1080p and increase the clock speed of the GPU.
@Pokefanmum82 I will also wait for a price drop, its too expensive for what it is. With the Wii U at least you could tell yourself that you didnt have to pay for the splatoon online. You paid 60 for the game once and you could play it right away.. but its too expensive for them to keep charging for the full experience.. I hope it is like the 3ds, an explosion after the price drop..
@westman98 I know, I'm just saying, Nintneod put so much stuff in that box that they are selling for $299, if you look at all the accessory prices Nintneod is shouting to the world one of 2 things - the Switch tablet is worthless, or, we are so ripping you off on everything else. I guess it makes the $299 look like a value, but at the cost of making the hardware itself look cheap. $300 PS4/X1 gets you the console and 1 controller, that's pretty much it, you know all the money goes towards the console. This is a $299 box of accessories. Where can I buy just the tablet for $150?
@rjejr
I hope/predict that Nintendo will sell the Switch without the dock and HDMI cable for a significantly reduced price in the future, likely 2-3 years from now.
The Switch could still be used in "handheld" and "tabletop" mode without the dock, so it's still a "hybrid" in some sense.
Your cow milking will always be remembered, Alex.
@Captain_Gonru But this tablet is supposed to be on par w/ PS4. I can buy a $50 7" Amazon tablet but I wouldn't expect that much power. 720p PS4 power tablet should be closer to $200, $50 dock, $30 each Joy Con. It's really the overpriced dock and Joy-con that are the issue I suppose, not the Switch.
How about looking at it this way, what's better - buy 1 Sitch and then a $90 dock, $30 grip, 2nd $80 set of Joycon and $16 for straps to play mutilplayer or in another room for $216, or just spend another $300 for a whole 2nd Swtich system? The accessories are way too expensive.
@rjejr Well, thanks for that. Decent math there...
Don't care much for cost of individual components, though. As long as the total package delivers and allows me to have all the fun I wish to have, then I'm good.
But as long as we're doing the whole "let's drag my old online friends into the conversation for old time's sake" here's right back at'cha...
hashtag @Captain_Gonru @aaronsullivan as well...
@yomanation (#117) Neither of those points are even close to being "constructive criticism". In general, constructive criticism consists of the so-called build-break-build formula, meaning you start off positive, then name your concerns or complaints, and then end it with something positive. And not something sarcastic, but something genuinely positive. THAT is constructive criticism.
@rjejr 90 Us dollars for the dock only, that has only a fan cooler inside it and nothing more (i mean does not provide extra power to the console) is a joke... and they want us to have multiple of them at home to play on every tv with that price? no way.. I loved the console, but I will wait for a price drop for sure...
I thought the presentation was generally pretty bad, as an actual presentation, but there was some decent stuff hidden in there, and some not so good stuff too.
@DanteSolablood I dont personally like the 'warriors" type games. I like Fire Emblem because its a Tactical rpg, making it a hack n slash action game in no way appeals... Same for DQ Heroes. I like DQ because its an rpg and a dang good one, using it as a skin for a crudd action game is for kiddies.
@VoodooTrumpet It will happen. If the thing is actually between xbone and ps4 as the earlier factory leaks suggested, FFVII and XV will happen.
The accessories are expensive, but thats typical for accessories from any 1st party manufacturer.
If the Joycons were made by Apple, they would sell for $50 á piece.
@walrusballs
The internet meltdowns are gathering momentum....
@yomanation
"The constructive criticism is that so far there are only two worthwhile games announced for 2017 that are not rehashes or ports, and those are Xenoblade 2 and Mario Odyssey"
Spot on. I accept there will be plenty of Wii U ports, the console didn't sell but has some fantastic games that deserve a second chance. The problem is the lack of quality new content.
It's too expensive to sell like hotcakes in the first year.
The consequence of that will be that there won't be enough people paying and playing online, and so the Switch will gain a reputation for dead lobbies, further putting people off investing.
It's like the Wii U: a great offering for well-off families, but not enough to convince the bulk of the market.
This doesn't feel like it's going to regain any market share for Nintendo. They need to be putting these joy cons in our hands for half the price.
I'd happily pay £280 for a Switch if it came with a game and two pairs of joy cons, but it doesn't, so I won't.
Overall, the presentation was a little disappointing. There are two big reasons:
1. Price. The system is $300. IMHO it should have been $250 (especially if it's packing the Tegra Maxwell X1 processor, which it probably is).
On top of that, online multiplayer is paid, and will be presumably $40-$60 per year (about equivalent to PS Plus or Xbox Live, but without all the additional free games benefits).
On top of that, an additional controller will set you back a whopping $70 (for the Pro controller) or $80 (for another set of two Joy-Cons).
All of this on top of buying $60 games. This isn't even including a microSD card that you'll need to buy if you're planning to go digital.
2. Games
Considering Nintendo hasn't announced anything major since 2015 for the Wii U, I expected there to be a good number of games planned throughout this year. But in terms of major first-party games, all we have are Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Arms, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (yes, there's also 1,2 Switch but it doesn't look like an in-depth experience). Two of the aforementioned games are ports of Wii U games.
Are there other first-party games for 2017? Nintendo might have more planned to show during E3, but IMHO they should have shown all first-party games coming out in 2017 during this presentation, and save E3 for 2018 and beyond. Where's Smash Bros.? Where are the rumored remastered versions of Xenoblade X and Bayonetta 1&2? Where is the rumored Pikmin 4? If the rumored games are true, they should have been presented. AND the launch lineup is pitiful, essentially featuring just Breath of the Wild, a game that could be bought on the Wii U instead. Not much justification for all the costs for the console, online multiplayer, and additional controllers.
So it seems, unfortunately, that Nintendo may stumble on price and games a bit with Switch, which is disappointing considering the two years they sacrificed Wii U game development. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if a 3DS-like scenario plays out, with the Switch receiving a price drop of at least $50 by holiday 2017 if sales aren't that much.
The system itself is excellent, and I'm sure the games that come out will be really good and much more than the Wii U ever had, but Nintendo didn't handle this presentation well at all (spending a lot of time on two games that are Wii-esque is not a good message to send to gamers).
@yomanation Then don't claim to post constructive criticism, because what you posted, doesn't help anyone or won't further the situation into something positive, something that ACTUAL constructive criticism at the very least would offer a possibility to.
I understand people's reservations, but there's reservations and then there's taking them to the next, ridiculous level, largely based upon some rumors which were never realistic to begin with.
On Nintendo Life as well as on many other sites and channels people were constantly saying "take all this with a grain of salt" but somehow, things like that magical price point of $200 - $250 has stuck like glue in so many people's minds that they fully expected that to become the actual price, which it obviously was never going to be.
Considering all the tech used, it's actually somewhat of a surprise that it didn't release at $350 instead, so $300 seems like a more than fair price to me, and it's not like I have that amount of money lying around all the time to spend whenever I want, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a fair price.
The most fair complaint in my opinion, if I would HAVE to choose one, is the paid online. But if you objectively look at it, what the hell is 2 or 3 bucks a month, for premium online services? DeNA will be the party taking care of them, so it's fair to expect a far superior service than what Nintendo has been able to give us for free so far.
And I don't think that $30 - $40 a year for a premium service is all that much, even for people with a moderate size wallet. What you get in return is rights. If something is free and it is bad, you can't complain because you don't have to pay.
If you pay, you also gain customer service, which next to the superior online experience, is yet another benefit to your gaming experience, and all for a few measly bucks a month. Drink one beer less every weekend and you're good to go...
But no, let's keep on complaining and see what that gets us.
@smm1 I disagree with you on a few of these aspects as you seem to be erring on the negative (which is fine considering we were all a little dissapointed in some ways). The price is actually pretty good for what we're getting, we're not just buying a CPU, we're buying brand new cutting edge technology with a LOT of features you simply can not find in the PS4/XboxOne.. and it's launching cheaper than the 3DS which was multiple, multiple, multiple, multiple times less powerful than the consoles that were out at the time.
Think about those joycons as well. You pay $50 for a PS4 controller & all you're getting is an ancient Dual Shock ($10?) with bluetooth and a battery. You buy a joycon & you're getting an entirely new controller with haptic feedback, motion controls, position sensors, timers & a lot more.
As for online, you get what you pay for. We've certainly got our nothing over the last few years. But companies barely make money on their games anymore. The price of games has stayed around the same since the early 90s, yet development costs are 10x higher... if you demand HD graphics, eShops & Voice Chat, it has to come from somewhere. Would you consider a free limited "3DS" online mode?
Can't argue much with the games, but we don't know the launch lineup yet. While Nintendo has done little to address concerns about few games at launch, it's still a little early to say "we're getting TWO GAMES". no.. we're not.. we only know about 2 yet.
@bolt05 Was with you there until you used "crud action game for kiddies", which is just wrong (and does sound a little like something an angry ship-poster might say, I know you're better than that).. Each game is built from the ground up, has a lot of depth in them & they always delve into the mythos of the property. Plus these game are not designed to replace your RPG experience and they won't... if the game was being developed by Atlus I might see your point, but it's not... it's being developed by Koei leaving your Fire Emblem developers free to do whatever they want. If you don't like this type of game, don't buy it. But it's not stealing your precious property away from you. Finally... why do you hate kiddies so much? What did they DO to you?
@DanteSolablood
You're right, I did err on the negative in my post. I didn't mention the positives, like how amazing Super Mario Odyssey was (IMHO much better than the Galaxy games), and how awesome Breath of the Wild was. Plus, the HD rumble feature looks pretty cool, and battery life seems decent (more than 6 hours possible, with 3 if using Breath of the Wild).
But I do agree and disagree with your post in some ways. Yeah, the Joy-Cons have more tech than the PS4 controller. But the Pro controller has virtually the same tech as the PS4 controller (actually technically less without the trackpad) and yet it costs about $15 more.
And personally like you I would be happy to pay for better online, but it's hard to deny that it's one more cost on top of other costs.
And actually I think the 3DS launched at a cheaper price. In the U.S. at least, it launched at $250 and then was brought down to $170 by holiday 2011. The Switch will be launching at $300 in the U.S., $50 more than the 3DS.
@DanteSolablood Hear, hear...
@smm1 The Pro controller has all the tech inside that the Joycons have, this was announced in the presentation, it does pay to listen.
As for the 3DS/Switch launch price, thats still not a huge difference considering the 3DS was old at launch & again multiple, multiple, multiple, multiple, multiple (these are all typed by hand), multiple times weaker than the consoles out at the time. Have you tried comparing the Switch price to the PS4 launch price?
And Sony were losing over $100 on each PS4!!
But while I am defending some aspects of the Switch... Nintendo. PLEASE announce some more launch games.
@walrusballs lasers make everything better.
@DanteSolablood
Actually I think PS4 they broke even or made a slight profit. But otherwise I agree with you.
@smm1 Actually, they only would have made a profit if you looked at the (component price of the) console itself & nothing else. You then have to add in the controllers, packaging, shipping and everything else that was included in the box.
Think we can all agree that the PS3 was a big fat loss-leader though.
@eltomo really? I actually thought squid guy was a highlight from most of the other stuffy presenters. EA was especially not fun.
@yomanation I wasn't implying anything, I actually WAS in contact with a low-level Ubisoft developer, who in the end wasn't able to tell me all that much (because of being so low-level) and was cut short before I ever got any real, tangible evidence (other than his resume, which checked out as real on LinkedIn and other business-related sites), but besides that, just look at what is happening here now.
All kinds of people flock together to spout their uninformed negativity, but if you read what the NLife crew has to say about it, people that have ACTUALLY tried out the hardware, then one might have to wonder if we should not take a bit more of a wait and see approach instead of a "damn Nintendo to hell" one...
@DanteSolablood I was thinking the middle one could be java, though that's usually more of a brown. I secured the gray joycon bundle at Gamestop this morning and a collector's Zelda (master sword edition is online only).
I also wanna get a Pro controller and that new Bomberman game but the SKU wasn't in the system yet.
So, here's my thoughts.
Overall, this is a very nice system. The controllers are the star of the show. They can literally do anything. No type of game will be off limits for Switch. I'm particularly glad to see them invest in new rumble technology and new IR technology. Motion gaming should be better than ever, for games like Mario Kart 8 or Arms. I also really like how the Joycons are held separately. I was going to buy a Pro Controller (and probably still will, Idk we'll see) but I'm beginning to question if I'll ever even need it given the superiority of the joycons with respect to comfort.
I always said if they made a new, revised Wiimote setup without cords, with dual analog and better motion, it would be the best controller ever made and here we are with exactly that. I find the notion of gaming with a controller in each hand extremely appealing. You don't need to keep your hands together and in front of you were on your lap as you would with a normal controller. You can rest your arms on the armrest of your recliner while you play, you can do anything.
The 1st party lineup is very strong, although the launch lineup is weak. The launch lineup gets a pass because, well, Zelda. And there are a couple third-party games I'll probably pick up as well. But for a year one line up, to get:
new Mario
new Zelda
new Splatoon
new Xenoblade
New IP (Arms)
new Fire Emblem crossover
new, revamped Mario Kart with battle mode
That's a pretty slick year one debut for 1st party games. And if they bring even more games this year like Pokémon Stars and Pikmin 4... this year is going to be one for the history books as far as first party titles go.
As for 3rd party, I'd say it's been average overall, but not bad by any means. There's a nice little chunk of third-party games coming to the system, and granted a lot of them are being ported from other systems but games are games. Just because a game previously existed somewhere else doesn't negate it is a viable game for Switch. I'm definitely thrilled to see such a strong lineup of different 3rd party games though. Ya, I want my Final Fantasy XV (at least we're getting Dragon Quest XI), and that's definitely something that I will be hoping to see in the future. But having different kinds of games, and the ones suited more for Nintendo, is a good thing. Like the Street Fighter and Bomberman and both new Sonic games (thank goodness Mania is coming to Switch, also that other one looks good, maybe return of Sonic's greatness?).
Now, accessories and features. Not happy about paying for online. It's not surprising but it's still disappointing nonetheless. At the same time a lot of people have been pushing for Nintendo to improve their online, and that they are definitely doing, so in a way it's bittersweet. I'll probably just sign up for Splatoon 2 and Monster Hunter and Mario Kart 8. But after that it'll be on an as-needed basis. The pricing for accessories really high, which is an aggravation but not the end of the world. With all the accessories I was planning to buy I might just be better off buying a second Switch. Really like the Joycon straps that make shoulder buttons bigger. And the red/blue looked tacky at first, but now it's growing on me. Definitely like the charge dock- it charges 4 Joycons at once.
Overall, it's exciting and there's definitely some top tier games to look forward to. Xenoblade 2 looks absolutely brilliant, as does Mario Odyssey and Zelda, well, my goodness. That game very well may end up being the greatest video game I've ever played. The new SMT is going to be mint, and the Fire Emblem Warriors. Splatoon 2 is sure to be a fave. And Skyrim, yes! It's actually coming. And lots of other good games, too many to list.
@Dysnomia Haha, the EA guy was a bit stiff! That evil look he gave the translator when he fluffed. EA is full of evil geniuses!
@PlywoodStick
Mmm… Tug those manly milky moobs…
@walrusballs
Pffcfcccfffccchhhchchchchchchchcfcffhh…..!!!
@VoodooTrumpet
Cloud in Smash? Are you joking?
@yomanation Nibelsnarf?

As for the games: this year, at least 23 will be released, as far as we know, since these are the only ones confirmed so far, but that doesn't mean that more games might very well still be revealed.
There are 80 currently in production according to Kimishima himself, so some of these must also be coming this year. Maybe they'll show them at the next E3.
And more third party games were already announced:
Syberia 3
Blaz Blue
New Frontier Days
I am Setsuna
Sonic Mania
Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2
Tales of- and Taiko Drum Master-series
Story of Seasons
Skylanders Imaginators
And more will probably follow in the days/weeks/months to come.
I feel like it was overall bad, only saving grace was Zelda at launch, and we all know thats enough to sell the console. If they actually cared about quantity for once, it's gonna be fully booked within a week, and then we wont see a restock till the summer.
Well... None of the launch titles interest me aside from Zelda... So I'm not going to preorder and probably won't even buy one until Mario comes out. If Mario was a launch title I would preorder immediately. Bummer.
@JaxonH That echos a lot of my thoughts too.We could have done with some of your positivity during and after the presentation.I felt like I was one of the very few who seemed to be really happy with how it went.I went in really hyped and came out even more so.Mario wowed me in a way I haven't been wowed since I played Galaxy for the first time,i almost shed a tear.Then that Zelda trailer blew me away,I actually welled up inside.The system arriving 2 weeks earlier than was rumoured also made me really happy,nothing important to the consoles success but the earlier I can play Zelda the better.Bomberman,Streetfighter 2 and Puyo Puyo Tetris all coming within a few weeks is fantastic.I love all those series and will sink countless hours into them.Xenoblade 2 was a huge surprise,the graphics look just like the originals artwork.I wasn't a huge fan of X but I absolutely loved the original.Arms I think looks like loads of fun and will probably have much more to it than appears.It might not reach Splatoon levels of success but it could do very well.And then to top it all off,Splatoon 2,a sequel instead of the expected port of my favourite game of last gen and one of my most played games ever.
"I'll probably just sign up for Splatoon 2 and Monster Hunter and Mario Kart 8. But after that it'll be on an as-needed basis."
I assumed a single subscription will give you access to online on every game,not a game by game basis or have you heard different?
@DanteSolablood
Yeah I agree
@OorWullie
Well, ya but subscriptions don't last forever, and if I bought one month to play Splatoon 2, that will long be expired by the time Monster Hunter arrives, at which time I'll probably plop down for 2 months. No sense getting a whole year when I'm only going to play two games online all generation.
And ya, I don't understand the negativity, I really don't. System looks amazing, hybrid concept is amazing, Joycons are amazing, The games look amazing, it's region free, they've improved their online, it's an open Mario for the first time in 20 years, we're getting five of their biggest franchises all in the first year...
This is like the most exciting console reveal in my entire life! I can understand being disappointed over having to pay for online or having to shell out an extra 10 bucks for a pro controller but what on earth is wrong with everything else? I just don't get it. What would have made people happy. Not five of Nintendo's biggest franchises the first year, but 20. And every single third-party game ever created all day one. And for 200 bucks. 10 hours battery life.
@JaxonH Ah alright I get you.I will probably just buy a years subscription if that options available.the thought of a new SNES game every month with added online excites me.Super Mario Kart,NBA Jam,Micro Machines,NHL 94,Mortal Kombat and the likes with online multiplayer has been a long time wish of mine.if Megadrive games get the same treatment I'll be over the moon.
My general reaction was basically:
"Eh."
@Alex that was the lamest presentation I've ever seen. I've seen some bad ones Atari Jaguar 1994. The Treehouse event is what got me going
@JaxonH "What would have made people happy. Not five of Nintendo's biggest franchises the first year, but 20. And every single third-party game ever created all day one. And for 200 bucks. 10 hours battery life."
Making a machine like that is perfectly possible, as is banging out 20 launch titles too.
BUT...
Why would any sensible company do that, knowing more than half the software will sell poorly, resulting in money lost on development, and every console unit would be sold at a loss, they'd haemorrhage money left right and centre. But at least it will keep the noise down in the basement for some angry online commenters' parents.
Some people just don't use common sense.
@WiltonRoots
This is the dopest handheld I've ever seen.... hybrid, I should say. Cause it outclasses even Wii U as a console.
I'm getting me the case and the Power A backpack, and I'm taking this sucker to work with me every day
Where are all 2D platformers, Mario Maker? Getting Zelda BOTW for the Wii U, I don't care if it's laggier than NS-version. I have 20 Wii games and 15 Wii U games which don't work on Switch, and hell no, I'm not buying same games again. NS seems to be good premium handheld, but not sure about those Joy-Cons(sounds like a sex toy). That 1-2 presentation sure was embarrassing...
@JaxonH My boss is sold on it and he's an Xbox man...he might even get a spare dock and plug it into his monitor at work. He has a 2.5hr commute on the train, he can while away the hours playing something on the train, then dock it for downtime on a big screen. And if I get one as well...lunchtime Mario Kart tournaments!
I think if Nintendo have any more launch or launch window games to announce / tease they need to do it quick because as a Wiiu owner I went from 200% getting this at launch to erm!! I think i'll wait and see what happens / wait for Mario in December.
One game, Zelda that I can play on Wiiu, much cheaper and nothing much till Mario surely has put a lot of Wiiu owners off, especially after being burned with the Wiiu. ( I think Nintendo will look back and regret doing the right thing and not cancelling the Wiiu version )
Price ! Console, games and accessories all too expensive. MK8 Deluxe £50, ok if you never owned it but £50 for improved battle mode and arenas and 3? new characters? If they'd have put a couple of more cups in there too then I would have double dipped. Where's Yookalaylee? I so wanted to play this on switch. It's £29 to preorder on Xbone and PS4 and will get cheaper. Will probably arrive later on Switch and most likely be £50 - £60. Same with Skyrim.
I was going to cancel my preorder yesterday but will delay this a little longer in the hope some things are being held back for some strange reason but if this is it then I can't justify laying down £340 to play BOTW when I can play it on my Wiiu for £38. It so would have been different if there was another AAA game like Mario on launch or the following month.
@yomanation Fair enough. But there are more games coming, from those 80 now officially in development. Nintendo of America has already sent out a tweet today about a bunch of nindies, so maybe they can offer you something good, who knows?
I'm pretty sure that in the end, they'll have something for everyone, and maybe some of us have a broader taste, so we'll be a bit more fortunate with the range of titles available to us, but either way, I hope that people are able to calm down a little bit instead of only harping on about all that's bad about the Switch. The thing hasn't even launched yet, for crying out loud...
Official media that have gotten their hands on it so far, seem to be quite positive about it, so maybe we should take our cues from them, huh?
You're right ThanosReXXX28 i'm just gutted because I was ready to pick it up day one, so ready lol, Nintendo had done so well getting hype and interest in the Switch going then seemed to blow it in a 1 hour presentation. I will get one but can't justify day one. I just hope Ninty hasn't blown the momentum they had going.
@iGen Only if they're Alex's.
@ThanosReXXX Do we know the price yet though? I mean 5-10 euros is something I'm willing to do, assuming the offer's good enough. But if they go much higher I'd have serious reservations. That said, as an avid enjoyer of Monster Hunter, and seriously wanting it back on the big screen, with a good traditional controller, I'd give it a good thought.
Tbh, after sleeping/thinking about it for 2 days, I like it. Might get it for Christmas '17, providing there has been a price drop, and that there is a much greater library of titles to choose from.
I just wish that there was a way where I could somehow squeeze in a last 1 or 2 titles for my Cube, before I really start getting into the U, or the Switch, 3DS, etc. I'm looking at F-Zero GX and Chibi-Robo!, if anybody wanted to know. Probably not. Kthanx.
@ThanosReXXX @Captain_Gonru @rjejr @JaxonH
On Switch pricing and accessories. Making the console have the narrow margins (even by Nintendo's standard of narrow) and grasping for profits on the accessories is the right move.
If you think about the alternative of Nintendo jacking up the price of the Switch and making the accessories cheap, that becomes quite clear.
Game prices, though? Nintendo should have knocked 1, 2, Switch a bunch and possibly Arms down a bit.
@rjejr math... I think the sold-separately JoyCons come with straps so you need to take that strap price off? Still don't know about the bundle coming with charging grip but I doubt it. (Sorry I didn't look these up but going out the door)
@aaronsullivan I think the dock is $90 b/c Nintneod would rather you, personally you and Jax, buy 2 Switch rather than 1 Switch, 1 $80 joy-con pair and 1 extra $90 dock. It's like they are daring people to buy the dock and a set of Joy-con for $170 when you can get a Switch for $300. That's the ONLY reason I can think of for that dock being $90. I'm actually OK w/ all other accessory prices, but the dock should be $50. My brand spanking new 1100 watt microwave was $90 and I'm sure it has more tech in it than that dock. The dock doesn't even have a spinning turntable. Maybe they should have made the dock out of stainless steel, everything looks more expensive stainless.

@Kmno
I don't know. Everyone will have different expectations. I expected better software, more software and better prices on everything for example.
@aaronsullivan
Idk if I'd say it was the right move, but at the same time I don't think it was a misstep. The accessories are all $10 higher than you'd expect. Pro Controller is $70 instead of $60, Joycon is $50 instead of $40 (although the 2 pack makes them $40 each).
With that said the Wiimote had no expensive technology in it. Just cheap IR. Joycons ( and to a lesser extent pro controller) has all the new haptic feedback which I imagine takes some very precise and high quality components, and how it judges distance.
So at the very least, I don't feel like I'm not getting anything extra for my money. At least it feels like I'm getting some really awesome technology for that extra 10 bucks.
@LeRaposa
"There were no major launch games aside from Zelda, no western third party support, and just a plain lack of games all together. It's the same exact thing they did with the Wii U launch."
I can only speak for myself here but it let me share with you why probably some people aren't so bleak:
No launch games besides Zelda. Right. But Zelda is enough- it's certainly the only one I need. And you're right, it is the same thing they did with Wii U launch. And the 3DS launch. That's just how launches go. Least this time we have the greatest Zelda ever created at launch, which sure beats Street Fighter IV and NSMBU.
As for Western 3rd party support, I am all for it. But western third parties were never really going to jump on board and we knew that from six months ago. This isn't a surprise. I have two perfectly good other consuls that already play those games. That's not to say I wouldn't be interested in buying those games a second time to have them portably but I'm not going to cry over not being able to buy a game second time. Switch doesn't need western games it just needs games. Western or not. And it does seem like there's quite a few games coming,
The most exciting thing is just the system itself. It's a lot sexier in thinner and slicker than Wii U, controllers are truly impressive, and you're getting a lot of bang for your buck with a handheld and console all in one. You can basically do everything Wii U can do ( in fact it's even more powerful I believe) and yet it has portability like 3DS. So games hold a lot more weight because you're kind of getting two versions of them in one.
That's not to say I think there could be some more games but I know the E3 is coming just 90 days after Switch launch, and there is no way they are going to E3 with nothing new to show right after their brand-new console launched. I also don't think that every single game we're getting was revealed in a press release for Japan.
This is a portable system and already has 3DS developers jumping on board (SMT, Dragon Quest, game from Bravely Default developers). And 3DS took a little time to pick up speed also. Was a great system and didn't have a single major western AAA game on it. Which proves that those games are not required for a system to be great or for a system to have a lot of games to play.
If AAA is all a person wants to see they're barking up the wrong tree. Nintendo even if they did get some western third-party support it will never even come close to the sheer scope that the other consuls offer. Nintendo at least for me has always been about playing different games that I can get anywhere else or playing them in a different manner then I can play anywhere else.
Don't understand the rationale that the system has to have these specific games from Western third parties for it to be worth its salt. As long as there are great games to play, the system is going to be enjoyable. It's why a lot of people aren't moping about this and are actually excited. The system looks sexy, it serves two purposes for one price tag and it's got some great games on the way. The first party lineup just for the nine months following launch is incredible- Nintendo will almost be averaging a game a month and I think once e3 comes and they show more games they actually will have released an average of a game a month. Name any other developer out there who puts out that many games. Wii U did not get that many 1st party games its first year, and it certainly didn't get as many big hitting 1st party games. Splatoon, Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Zelda, Hyrule Warriors, Xenoblade... not a single one of those landed year one on Wii U. We are getting ALL of them in the first 9 months of Switch.
@rjejr
Lol agreed agreed.
The dock is outrageously overpriced. I don't really have an issue with the other accessories either, even if they are 10 bucks higher than you'd expect it's no big deal. But that dock man my goodness lol
What do you think of the games @rjejr? Xenoblade 2 man!!! New open Mario!!! Zelda!!! Battle mode in Mario Kart!!! Splatoon 2!!! Fire Emblem Warriors!!! Arms!!!
And I know your jazzed up for that 1-2 Switch right ☺️
I thought the presentation was really poor. It felt like it had been stitched together over the past couple of weeks - rather than being planned for several months as it should have been.
For me the low point was the collection of misfits from 3rd party studios that had to stand there and pretend to have a strong lineup of games. Hilariously all the poor SEGA guy could say was that they were 'considering' making some games for Switch. It was just embarrassing, none of those people added much to what we already knew from their studios' names appearing on the slide on 3rd party support.
This is a console that feels rushed to market for a 3/3 release; the presentation has convinced me to wait until at least the holiday season. Hopefully there will be a bundle available then, ideally with Mario Odyssey.
I have done nothing but watch the new Zelda trailer for literally 3 hours.
1-2 FU Wiiu customers.
@yomanation That surely is a glass half full approach if ever I saw one, although I can understand that not every game will appeal to everyone, but like I said before, I just hope that people are willing and able to judge the Switch and its offerings from a hands-on point of view, and not just from their biased, second-hand opinions...
No mention of the VC service and its plans kinda bugs me!EDIT: the listing on Nintendos site for Arcade Arcives is a good sign though. But It's got similarities to the Wii U getting out the door with NO vc service as well. I'm just waiting for them to tell me I have to re-re-re buy my classic vc games again. 😡 Just say it
@JaxonH Oh sure, now you ask me about the good games.
XC2 looks awesome, though it was hard to see as they tried to hide it away between TMS (SMT? I always forget that one) and FE Warriors. I'm guessing 100 years after XC. Maybe 500 or 1,000. In Monolith we trust.
Mario Adventure. Well 3D Mario games are my favorite, and Sonic Adventure is my favorite Sonic game, so... $299 Mario bundle for Christmas and I'm in.
Zelda we'll probably get on Wii U, still waiting for Nintneod to tell us what's what between the 2 versions, I'm OK w/ 720p and 30fps on Wii U.
MK8D looks like MK8, dont' think we'll rebuy for battle mode, MK9 should only be a year or 2 away, unless it's on 3DS.
Spla2oon we may have to pass on, b/c as fun as it was, my sons and I really started taking it way to seriously and cursing and yelling and throwing things, I think it's effectively banned.
Still waiting on BG&E2 and SSB Complete b/c where the heck is my Cloud amiibo? And Bayonetta? They already took poor sinalefa's Scalebound from him, poor guy needs his Cereza amiibo pronto.
@rjejr
You can still play Splatoon 2 with me! Just wait til the kids go to bed. I've gotta get Mario Kart 8. New tracks, new characters (Inklings!), new battle mode and arenas... no. No way that game comes out and I'm not playing it.
I think maybe they didn't want to overload with ports for the pressed, so they're saving the Smash Ultimate and Xenoblade 2 for later (or at e3). BG&E2 is definitely an e3 reveal. And I'm beginning to think Pikmin 4, Assassins Creed and that Rabbids game will be shown too. That way they have lots of games to announce at e3 and keep excitement going.
The fact you're even considering buying one before years end tells me they definitely got the software right. If they announce a Metroid at E3, even if it's years away, I'm gonna be stoked. Plus Retro studios still hasn't revealed their game yet, in fact there's a lot of studios that are about due for a new game.
@yomanation Well, I wouldn't go that far, but in my honest opinion, looking at second hand footage is nowhere in the same league as actually getting your hands on the hardware and trying it out for yourself. I recently lived through exactly such an experience when I FINALLY got my hands on a premium Wii U pack with Mario Kart 8. (yes, I know, royally late, but personal circumstances took precedence over a hobby)
Watching the footage in the years before definitely made a good impression on me and made me want to play that game, but that could not have prepared me for my first experience with the hardware itself, and playing on the GamePad alone, so that certainly added a whole new dimension to what I expected from it, and that is kind of what I was trying to convey.
Another game I bought, Batman Arkham City Armoured Edition also gave me an entirely new gaming experience, that videos alone could never have made clear to me.
But of course, we all have our own opinions and outlook and even though we might not agree, I certainly do respect yours.
Either way, here's hoping the Switch will take off and gain traction with a huge audience. Something Nintendo definitely needs, and which in the end will benefit us all.
@aaronsullivan #178 Interesting point of view. Haven't thought of it like that yet. Guess that after the rather mixed bag that was the presentation, a lot of stuff still has to land and settle, and not just with me. Mario and Zelda looked gorgeous, though. And good to see that Splatoon 2 is an actual sequel, and not a reboot, like the rumors claimed months ago.
@yomanation Yeah, it certainly IS a bit meager. I also expected more games to be announced, but maybe we'll get to see some more in the weeks to come and the period leading up to the next E3. If those 80 games that Kimishima mentioned are well on their way to being developed, then I would at the very least expect there to be some reveals/trailers/announcements of them.
So many IP's are still up in the air, that were rumored to come: Smash Bros, Metroid, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Bayonetta 3, Pikmin 4, etc. so who knows what they are going to reveal next?
Meanwhile, I'll be WAY too busy playing catch up with the Wii U, to get too involved in the "worrying about the Nintendo Switch" situation...
@yomanation I'll drink to that! (just not today, since I'm still a bit hung over from visiting and drinking with some long time friends yesterday)
