Why are people complaining that these are games that are old? They're eshop releases and at least give you something to play.... and on the go!! There's gonna be a lot of digital content on day one. This is a pretty great thing. If these games are priced well people will want to download them to Switch so they can take them on the go.
it's both and neither. It's a perfect contradiction. It's whatever you want it to be. And if it fails, Nintendo will release a proper home console and say that exists alongside Switch, or another portable to live alongside the home console. I also think they'll release a mid-gen update akin to PS4 Pro i.e., they'll release a more powerful dock that offers better graphics or whatever...
The core demographic of Switch are currently muddied and a bit confused. Will the cherished 'hardcore' gaming contingent buy it or is it Wii portable by any other name? Nintendo are targeting a bit of both. But when the dust settles on launch, and the big pubs can do their market research and look at sales figures we will have a better idea about what AAA titles - if any - will hit.
Day one for me. It's two players but the concept means you can rope anyone in to help. And it generates conversation and thinking between two players, of whom both both necessarily need to be gamers.
I still don't like the idea of social media integration - it was something Iwata clearly didn't want to do. - but I can see why they would want to do this
@polivar4 it's a good question. I'd probably pay £30 at the maximum really. But I think it should be a little cheaper, I feel. It seems to be the sort of game that's suited to an eshop only release. Similar to Pushmo I suppose and that was under £10 as I recall. Graphically it looks like a HD 3DS game. There is online functionality but we are expected to pay for this from later this year. I think in all honesty Konami are pushing their luck with pricing, expecting this to be purchased by a number of passionate fans of the franchise, adults with disposable income. It certainly isn't priced right as it stands
At this price I'm sorry, no... the character has a huge legacy, and this is a surprise reveal for these reasons. But I'm not that much of a fan. Super glad for those who are over the moon about this but, Konami, I'm sorry you've priced me out which is a shame.
It might work to get newcomers to commit to the franchise on Switch/3DS. It's got a Clash of Kings sort of vibe.
Mobile gaming is the new arcade gaming with micro transactions being Order of the day in the same way just putting in another 10 cents/pence used to be.
I'd usually be surprised at an unveiling of FE Warriors as all they showed was a concept trailer at the Switch unveiling. I'm hoping for localisation of non localised FE titles for Switch. Maybe in one physical package. But that's unlikely I feel
Bomberman will be a new IP to many; or a fabled mascot from times past. Pricing this low is good for the franchise. Then invest the money on a proper 3D Bomberman title!
I don't know what they're doing there. Charging £40 for the physical version of this, and not having it bundled in as digital only software is baffling. Reggie has been doing the press rounds saying that they couldn't have maintained the costs if they had bundled in the software. But costs would be reduced by keeping it digital only and bundling it in. They're going to lose money on this.
I was by no means expecting the joy con grip to even charge the joy cons so this really isn't a surprise to me. However what I would like to know is - will the joy cons charge when you've got the console plugged in by USB-C or purely when the console is docked?
This is the worst launch line up in the history of the industry. Which is a total shame since it was the one thing I was convinced they'd nail after Wii U and 3DS.
Everything about the Switch is expensive at the moment - or at Least over priced. The cynic in me believes the same of the online services. Like they're over estimating the value of what they're offering.
I remember reading prior to the launch of the Wii U that Iwata didn't want Facebook integration on the console because social media was so flash in the pan, so they wanted to harness the concept of social media instead and create their own platform. Facebook seems to have survived what happened to the likes of Bebo and MySpace (anyone remember them?) but I still feel a little weirded out by the idea of Facebook integration on a Nintendo system.
I'm hoping mostly that the price of the games comes down. £59.99 for BOTW? Overall the launch line up of games is better than Wii U, but purely because of BOTW which is a killer app on its own. There is very little else to write home about. After rumours pointed towards Mario being a launch game I was ready to believe this to be the case. I'm beginning to wonder about what exactly Nintendo have been working on since these final days of Wii U. I was under the impression they had little to show in recent times because they were effectively porting titles over to Switch ready for a robust launch with plenty of games. Lots of promise in summer, holiday and beyond but right now for launch window there's precious little. This is something that has disappointed me slightly. I would have been down for Mario and Zelda at launch. It's not great that I'll basically be playing BOTW alone. And I'm not convinced about double dipping a month later on MK8.
@Anti-Matter according to the website VC titles - or some of them - will be free to paid users. And they're adding online functionality to NES andSNES titles apparently.
I'm surprised the Mario on the throne toy wasn't vigorously scrutinised by those employed to protect the brand. That is particularly awful. I'm only buying three of them.
no surprise here. I think toys to life has had its day. Nintendo should really try and be a bit more Innovative when it comes to content offered with amiibo, when it comes to Switch, otherwise collectors will lose interest. I have all released Smash amiibo simply because of the nostalgia factor, and having plastic representations of some pretty obscure characters. The Animal Crossing amiibo really don't carry the weight that some of the Smash figures do.
The UK will still be under Nintendo of Europe when brexit happens. That is a given. Also, UK shops will not retail games that aren't EU territory games. I know this from when I tried to sell a Vita game I had a duplicate copy of (was too trigger happy on eBay and ended up with two of the same US game!) I sincerely hope they localise for Europe in time for the Switch launch. It would hark back to the old days of EU being a third world territory for video games. And they really need a strong launch
As far as I know the Persona series has always been pretty exclusive to Sony consoles unless I'm much mistaken - yes i am aware of spinoff titles such as Q and the dancing and fighting ones. So no shock here. I was looking to play P5 on the go so it's a shame it's not coming to Switch. It would be a great fit. I spent many wonderful hours playing P4 Golden on Vita.
This isn't something I was previously aware of. But I'm getting Ico/Shadow of the Colossus and Okami vibes. Maybe even a bit of Wind Waker. Which is good
Optimistic certainly. The Switch is a chance to right so many wrongs about their gaming philosophy and how they wish to capture gamers. Next Thursday will be a blast.
If localisation is the issue behind why the title is delayed then I'm sure it's something they can put more people on and build a bigger team to speed the process up. That's if they really want it to launch in march at the same time as the console. It'll be the first time a system launches with simultaneous Zelda and Mario titles.
And it was the bloke who created Catchphrase? Random. Still, when you think of that show's very 90s use of computer graphics, it doesn't seem that random. There's Mr Chips, what's he doing?

People think they're getting the whole game for free because it says it's a free app when one downloads it from the App Store. People generally like what they get to play for free. They just resent paying £7.99 to complete the experience.
