It’s the port that no-one asked for. These titles are quite linear within their genre; once you’ve exhausted it there is barely nothing post-game, unlike other games JRPGs re-released from the DS day’s.
Following Nintendo nowadays feels like a perpetual 'we are preparing this'; 'we are preparing that'. Everything is in a constant state of flux and, when you look back on these times knowing what we don't at the moment, it will probably feel like they didn't really deliver.
Well talk about falling on your sword... the ambition was lofty, and Nintendo should probably award themselves a relatively hardy pat on the back for their efforts. Maybe they should be a bit more organised with regulating regular software releases but they’ve got some big hitters out there in a short space of time. Also ‘we plan to sell more hardware/software’ is stating the obvious a tad.
I jumped through the hoops and didn’t get a code. My email I registered on my Nintendo with is no longer accessible to me. Yeah my fault I know but the only way to change my linked email address was have an email delivered to my address I couldn’t access - no other way to change it. So Nintendo’s archaic online infrastructure has cost me a fiver.
I cannot access email for the account I registered on My Nintendo with. The code was sent they’re and they insist on me verifying that address before they’ll let me make that change to my account. I guess the pipe dream is over for me until I have to pay!!
I don’t think I even remember seeing any evidence that MP4 was even planned for this year. And that Liam Robinson chap has alluded to the game not even being planned for this year. I’m sure there are many games due out this year and that the whole schedule wasn’t poised on the release of this one game... But then it is Nintendo
‘Successor’ would imply a brand new console, rather than an updated iteration. I still think they’ll consider a ‘pro’ model. Maybe not this year though
If people don’t want Wii U ports I’ll suggest they don’t buy them. They’re being used to plug schedules, they’re not affecting resources being used on new games and they’re very popular. When you see them inoffensively sitting on the shelves in your gaming store, or you see them up for preorder online, acknowledge their existence for a few moments and move on with your life. It’s very easy
They could abandon home consoles and just release new handheld consoles.
I mean, why not? I’m almost in my mid-30s. I have no time to play games on home console at home.
I commute two hours a day by train and take the game with me.
I’m far more likely to play handheld while a TV Is streaming Netflix in the background. People regularly ‘second screen’ nowadays and I do this with Swich. With graphics catching up to home console quality in handheld machines the TV just seems redundant. Bring it on.
It all comes down to personal preference anyway. I’m by no means a pro player but was definitely a duck hunt duo ‘main’ in the Wii U iteration and certainly did my best with them.
@SepticLemon thanks! Just checked eBay and copies are going for about £45-50 inc postage from the US. I may have to just bite the bullet and get this one as a download
@Balchad who are you to say what someone should and shouldn’t tweet about? It’s other people who have decided to mount a campaign. When you’re diagnosed terminally ill - a definition being that you have <6 months to live, come back to us and comment further. Because then you might - might - be in a position to wax lyrical about such matters.
The outpouring of ‘why should they’ within these comments is surprising and a bit grim. what’s wrong with giving a dying man his last wish of playing the new Smash? Organisations like the Make a Wish foundation fulfil similar wishes. Lucasfilm showed an early cut of Star Wars to someone who was terminally ill. Pre-release demos of the game exist and are used at events like E3 and EGS; this guy’s wish wouldn’t exactly be difficult to fulfill
@EarthboundBenjy thanks for the clarification. If I seem a bit confused then it’s more because the article was a tad misleading! I now understand the basic premise. To me it sounds almost Majora’s Mask-like. Like they imagine the concept in an 8-bit kind of way
So you can play the game once for 60 seconds in a day?
EDIT: Actually, just tried to find out the answer on Wikipedia. Didn’t get far enough into the article to answe my own question, but I now know this game was previously announced for Switch in May, which makes the angle of this article kinda irrelevant considering people knew it was on the way already.
It’s a gap bridging title that’ll bring new fans and new Switch owners to titles that will come, such as the previously announced 2019 title. I’m all for that. I’m sure that if you need to satisfy your Pokemon craving this year one could do a lot worse.
I hope Sakurai doesn’t relent and put Waluigi in Smash. He’s a terrible character. He’s the N64 era’s Linkle. Just uninspired. I’m surprised his character has lasted this long. But then he just keeps turning up in sports titles.
Sakurai should never have included Ridley in this game. He’s created a monster. Quite literally as well as metaphorically. The Waluigi backlash will continue until they relent! It’s not necessarily a good thing to relent to your fan base. Like spoilt children, it can ruin their lives ...
@Alucard83 great for the fans and I include myself in that! Love the series! This one just feels like a re-tread of old ground a little more than the rest of them. I think it’s because we haven’t had that long since the last games and because I still play Wii U Smash quite regularly. But I’m getting it of course. Maybe we’ve just had Smash overkill in the last two or three days!!
@Snaplocket it’s new. They’ve made many tweaks - hell, 25+ minites’ worth of tweaks! In fact, that part of the presentation felt like a video of patch notes, IMO. But they mostly feel like refinements to me. Don’t get me wrong, game looks awesome. I’m just not filled with the sense of excitement I have been previously. But that’s not a bad thing.
This feels in one way like a ‘best of’ the series, even down to its name - ‘Ulitmate’ and an advanced port of the last version. It doesn’t feel that new to me, it doesn’t feel as radical as Melee or even Brawl. Maybe it doesn’t feel that long since the last iterations. For these reasons my excitement isn’t at optimal levels just yet.
Never played this. Not sure what to make of it. Certainly seems like the free to start model has evolved somewhat but does it represent value for money and does playing for free give you a good experience? I’ll find out one day when I buy an SD card
What is the point in a CG trailer? I don’t understand. It’s been confirmed as being I. Development. You know it still is in development. I don’t understand peoples’ desire for affirmation
It seems like Dom gets left to write the stories no one else at NL is interested in, and which Dom doesn’t know a lot about. So it’s a quick read of whatever press release came out, some quick Wikipedia skimming for background, fry it in a pan with some dull journalistic tropes, some key buzz words like ‘seminal’ and serve it up with zero proof reading or fact checking.
Share prices always fluctuate around E3. Investors are cagey In an ‘it could go one of two ways’ sort of fashion and don’t want the risk. It’s like someone not interested in horse racing placing a large bet on horse riding. Some likely think Nintendo have GONE FABULOUS too early by releasing Zelda and Mario in the same year.
@Gibb the problem is journalism/criticism is a second language. He tries so hard to write in endless tropes that the content and substance of the subject is lost.

I own every Smash Bros one released so far and a number of others. I’ve probably used two of them one time each.

This is a good case for reversible covers. Simply put the full box art on the reverse of the cover and people can flip at their own leisure. Simple

I’m guessing at that price there’s no physical version planned? I’d rather have it physically, the same as all my games.
