Re: Nintendo Reveals "The Master Trials", the First DLC Pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

ottospooky

When they mentioned the pack would contain a new 'map feature', I was hoping it would be some sort of tracker. Helps to see large areas I haven't explored yet and give me an indication about where I need to go.
People are getting a bit angry at the fact this costs $20 but this gets you another, story centric update later this year. Buy the expansion pass or wait or make your mind up whether you want it when you see the new content coming out.

Re: Review: Puyo Puyo Tetris (Switch)

This and MK8 will be winging their way to me this Friday. Still not finished Zelda but they should both provide something a little more pick up and play for when I've stopped harvesting Guardian innards

Re: Review: Mr. Shifty (Switch eShop)

ottospooky

Shame. It feels like the reviewer was desperately looking for something positive to say, to no avail. Something that looks like it was coded in flash in 1998 and which provides players with nothing new, exciting or interesting should be rated as such. And the frame rate issues are lazy.

Re: UK Retailer Exploits NES Classic Demand By Asking More Than Three Times The Retail Price

ottospooky

@Moon I can verify what you're saying. I never had the displeasure of actually working for these fraudsters but did purchase an iPhone from there for my a relative. It didn't work and when we took it back they refused to acknowledge a problem despite their promise of a 2 year warranty. Their business practices stink worse than their customer base. And that's pretty bad. I have been in a CEX in every town I've been in just to look what they've got and there's always at least one customer in there that's not washed since 1992.

This latest thing with the NES Classic is the latest in a long line of scalping. Sometimes they charge MORE for a second hand game than it costs brand new, despite no stock issues. They're awful!!

Re: Nintendo Has Discontinued The NES Classic Edition in North America

ottospooky

@cleveland124 i think that there has probably been a surge in the popularity of the product through third party sellers because of the announcement that thing isn't being made anymore. I think people are hoping to become scalpers themselves by sitting onto it for a while. But even those numbers are probably small fry for Nintendo.
I don't know much about retail and manufacturing costs but the profit margins on this thing must have been so small that Nintendo would rather not bother continuing with production. Plus it's a one time purchase thing, unlike Switch and other consoles where there is software licensing and publishing and all these additional revenue streams. With this it's the console only and possibly a controller and that's it.

Re: Nintendo Has Discontinued The NES Classic Edition in North America

ottospooky

Let's just say Nintendo offered to go into production on these again and supplied one to everyone who wanted one. They ask for a show of hands or everyone to email them to put in a request for how many they're down for and make the orders on a bespoke basis. How many people do you think actually want one? The angry comments on this forum represent 200 people at most. How many other Nintendo centric sites are there with comments sections? How many of them will generate more than 200 people commenting that they want one?
To go back into production with this - to make the casings and the molds for it and the internals for like 1000 people who actually want one. Not worth it. It was designed to generate some sales - probably to pay for some Switch marketing or something just to keep things afloat. It's a 30+ year old games console. If these were on store shelves taking up room like the licences Sega consoles, then retailers would stop purchasing units and they just rot on shelves. And most people only want them because they're in demand. I've seen the Sega ones in store and contemplated ordering online and I always end up thinking 'nah, I don't play most of the new games I have anymore' and don't get it in the end. Do you really think Nintendo refuses anyone's money? They don't.

Re: Soapbox: ARMS is the New Splatoon for the Nintendo Switch Generation

ottospooky

Not convinced ARMS will become the new Splatoon. Splatoon took the multiplayer FPS tropes and Nintendofied them, creating something that was awesome and colourful and instantly playable by everyone. ARMS looks like a fun family game but beyond some pretty cool customisation type stuff it's not something you could get lost in for hours at a time like the former...

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

ottospooky

For those gloating about the game 'failing' because of a certain business decision made by the devs/publishers: grow the heck up! The game hasn't even released yet. I hate to tell you but your sense of entitlement will not deter any of the people who made this game, or any other people that are looking forward to playing it. Your £15/$20 or whatever to make the product is a drop in the ocean. This is the nature of crowdfunding. Get over yourselves! If you can't be prepared not to get exactly what you want, vote with your wallet or at least wait until you're in possession of the facts.

Re: Forget Scratched Screens And Joy-Con Problems, "Warp-Gate" Is The New Nintendo Switch Issue

ottospooky

Two people claim to have the same issue and suddenly it's a '-gate'. internet. Nintendoomed!
Seriously this company has one of the highest record of quality control of any company in the world. Does anyone really think they let the standard slip for this console? In the Nintendo store NY they have on display an original Game Boy that was blown up in Iraq during the Gulf War. It still works.

Re: Lego City Undercover Box Reveals a Mandatory 13GB Install

ottospooky

As I recall cartridges were extremely expensive at the beginning of the N64 era and then as the generation went on, more were produced and coatings went down. These things usually happen at launch but I'm sure in the coming months as supply and demand re-balance, games will be cheaper and this sort of BS will likely cease.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Upgraded Confidence in Switch is a Relief

ottospooky

admittedly under a month in this is looking like the hybrid of theissues they had with third party support on both the Wii and Wii U. But support is clearly dependent on how well the system sells over the course of the launch window. So early indications are positive. And ports of the last gen stuff could well pay off -some the third party strategy was pretty crappy on Wii U BUT this time it could work. Skyrim on the toilet? Yes please! Etc etc.
EA should seriously consider bringing the Mass Effect trilogy to Switch. Never played any of those games as playing huge RPG experiences on a home console can be difficult due to time constraints. But taking them on the go could make those who've already played double dip and could act as an incentive for others double dip.
This in addition to current gen games could seriously make Switch pretty viable.

Re: Review: Mario Sports Superstars (3DS)

ottospooky

It amazes me that Nintendo refuse to release an F-Zero sequel because by their admission they can't bring anything new to the series, despite fans clamouring for a new game in the series, yet they're content to recycle the same old crap like this in a different package no one asked for.

Re: GameStop Describes Nintendo Switch Launch as "One of the Strongest" in Recent Years

ottospooky

I'm not gonna leave a negative comment about the Switch for poops and giggles. I do own one and am loving it so far. Snipperclips on the train with the Missus at the weekend was a bit much, especially when she started saying, 'cut me like that!' And to a train of unsuspecting non gamers that probably doesn't sound good. But apart from that it's been fantastic.
What I was gonna say was this: a strong launch is to be expected - they've rightly got the marketing out there and made sure they don't follow the same path as Wii U.
But what they're going to have to do now is keep the momentum going. Holiday season is gonna be when we will know whether the Switch can be sustainable throughout. And regardless of what everyone says - this is a soft launch. A good soft launch but a soft launch nonetheless. Christmas is when we will know for sure what people think of Switch
