Re: Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered Announced For Switch

@ScalenePowers Hehe. I'm trying to be cautious how hard I recommend these games to people, because it's been years since I've played through them, but I LOVED these games. 20 years ago, the first Soul Reaver was consistently in my top five GoaTs. I'll be getting the remaster to support the series, and see if it's actually as good as I remember

@Zach777 The first Soul Reaver is a bit dated in the same sense as OoT is dated. It'll be a bit rough if you don't have nostalgia for it, but as one of the best examples of this genre from that time period, it's still quite playable. If Zelda gameplay, in a metroidvania world, with gothic art direction, and better writing and voice acting than Metal Gear sounds good to you, then I highly recommend it.
Soul Reaver 2 abandons the metroidvania world for a strictly linear experience, but makes some improvements to the combat and has some excellent puzzles.

@andykara2003 I don't think any developer has ever been more in tune with a piece of hardware than Amusement Vision was with the Gamecube. Monkey Ball and F-Zero have some of the most responsive controls and polished visuals I have experienced to this day.

Re: Crash Bandicoot 4 Sales Reportedly Surpass Five Million

@HandheldHaunter @Not_Soos Activision made Toys for Bob into a CoD support studio shortly after Crash 4 released, so yes, you are right that these numbers weren't good enough for Bobby Kotick.

Much as I hate seeing so much industry consolidation, I think things are going to be better overall in this case.

Re: Endless Ocean: Luminous Is Coming To Switch In May

@Truegamer79 Endless Ocean 2 (Blue World) really gamified things. There there's a story, quests, supporting characters, and even some areas where you need to escape shark attacks. On the one hand, it kinda hurt the relaxing zen feeling of the first, but on the other, it gave more motivation to keep going. Sounds like it would be the one for you to try if you can track down a copy.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

I will agree BC isn't a make or break feature, but Nintendo would be wise to include it. Having people locked into an ecosystem encourages them to stick with you when it comes time to upgrade. That will be much more important now than it was in 2017, with alternatives like Steam Deck and all the other handheld PCs coming out. People will be more reluctant start from scratch when they have alternatives with such a massive library behind them.

Re: Anniversary: Tales Of Symphonia Became A GameCube JRPG Favourite 20 Years Ago

@Diowine Origins gives a first impression of being a dumbed down, lazy cash grab. Backgrounds are reused from the first game, there's no defense round in battles anymore, health regenerates after each encounter, there are three playable characters, and they all share from one deck. However, the characters are more interesting than the ones from EWatLO, the story is better, and the battles move very fast. If the system hadn't been simplified, it would be hard to keep up. Plus, since health regenerates, they made enemies hit harder. Even minor ones could take you out quickly if you aren't paying attention. It really is a lot of fun, and unique, even compared to it's already unique predecessor.
