Re: Netflix Cancels Resident Evil Series After First Season

judaspete

@WhiteTrashGuy I don't get the hate. It wasn't exactly a good show, but it had the most coherent story of any Resident Evil adaptation (not that high of a bar, I know). Even managed to crack a few jokes that were funny on purpose, which is more than I can say for the movies.

Re: SNK Announces Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol.2, Coming Soon

@KingMike They own stock in most of the major publishers. SNK is small enough that they were able to grab 90% of the company's shares, but they also put about $3 billion into Activision, EA, and Take Two. The reason being Prince Salman likes video games, and knows he needs the country to diversify it's economy to things beyond oil.

Re: SNK Announces Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol.2, Coming Soon

@VinylCreep In SNK's defense, they didn't sell themsleves. The Saudi government bought most of their stock. The only thing SNK could have done to prevent that would be to buy back all their own shares, which they do not have the cash to do.
I'm not trying to fault you for being principled, I respect your decision here. I'm just saying the whole thing wasn't SNK's idea.

Re: Review: F-Zero X - The Best The Series Has To Offer

Like most I prefer GX, in fact it is my favorite game if all time. Not racing game, game.
That said, X holds up shockingly well. Probably the most responsive controls of any game released on the N64, and it somehow maintans a smooth 60fps running at blazing fast speeds. I even think the simple visuals hold up well.

Re: Nintendo President Reiterates That Switch Is "Just In The Middle Of Its Lifecycle"

judaspete

I'm fine with the switch sticking around a few more years IF they can broaden the first-party release lineup. Two of the biggest upcoming releases, BotW2 and Splatoon 3, are direct sequels to games already on Switch. They will sell well mind you, but earlier entries already sold systems, and sequels aren't necessarily going to convince new folks to pick up a Switch. If say, they put out Prime 4, F-Zero, and a no gimmicks Star Fox all in 2023, that might bring back some older core-gamer folks (with balls that drag on the ground because they are soooo huge) that have stayed away up until now.
Hopefully now that COVID is calming down and they've expanded their teams a bit, Nintendo can kick the output up a notch. Because that was always what did them in around year five or six before.

Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?

judaspete

@BabyYoda71 I agree, short is not necessarily bad. I'm in the middle of Mirror's Edge: Catalyst right now, which is much longer than the first but definitely not better. Still great though, and even does a few things better than the first, however I don't see myself replaying it as much as I did the original.

I'd say ideal length depends on the genre, but in general I find a game being less than 10 hours a plus.

Re: Feature: 8 Games That Missed Nintendo Hardware

judaspete

I had a fantasy where Nintendo would hire Platinum to make a game about a Federation trooper from Metroid, and it would basically be Vanquish 2 in all but name. This was before Federation Force came out mind you, so if by some miracle this did happen they should call it Metroid: Shock Trooper or something.

Re: Review: Hot Wheels Unleashed - Probably The Best Hot Wheels Game Ever

judaspete

@Nintendo4Sonic Yeah, Milestone's track record seems to range from kinda crap to halfway decent. But I did get Gravel on a steep discount recently and have been enjoying it a lot. Graphics aren't great, but handling is a lot like Sega Rally with some sim elements sprinkled in. That got me a little more excited for Hot Wheels knowing they have it in them to make a fun arcade racer, when not tied down to a motorsports license.
