Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online N64 Library With Excitebike 64

It's about time. Still waiting on 1080 but this should be fun.

Probably the announced N64 game I was least curious about but still happy to see more games on the service after how slow they've been to release them throughout this year. Hoping we get Mario Party 3 and Harvest Moon 64 (know it wasn't actually announced outside Japan but since we since got the original, it'll probably happen) sooner rather than later.

Awesome I have been waiting for this one.

I haven't played it since I rented it way back in the day, very excited to give it a proper try.

I was reallyyyyy hoping it would be Mario Party 3 but I'll still take whatever crumbs Nintendo will give us for now.

This game is one of my all time favorite Racers. It might still be the best dirt bike racer, and all the bonus levels are great, not to mention it has original nes excitebike in it.

I would like Star Wars rouge squadron and Shadow of the Empire to be added.

The last game I got on my Wii U prior to its eShop closure, I'm glad I can also play it ln Switch.
Hopefully the original Excitebike is still there.

Fantastic game. Spent so much time with it back in the day. Look forward to diving in again.

I remember just cruising around that endless sand dune area and getting sweet, sweet air for a very long time.

Glad to see it, though I wish they'd give us more than one game at a time. And for that matter when they did give us 2 with Mario Party and Mario Party 2, why didn't they also give us 3 at the same time? The moves they make, so confusing sometimes. But I guess I get it, there probably isn't a ton of games that will be added to N64 online given its smaller library to begin with. Still, I'm greedy and I want more now lol.

One of them straight up launched a toddler in the air. (I wasn’t around in the late 90’s I know about this because I enjoy watching old video game commercials.)

@Greatluigi lolol, holy sh*t. I forgot that I had a girl in my English class in like 11th grade who did a whole persuasive paper on how commercials for this game, Smash, and Battletanx were like proof that society was rotting.
...and I mean, Quest 64 was right there as proof already. She wasn't smart.

What games will be next? N64 didn't have that big of a library. But as long as I get banjo 2, donkey kong 64, conkers bad fur day and castlevania, I'll be satisfied.

Two N64 games in a month? It's almost like they'll be asking people to re-up their subscriptions soon!

Guess we'll be waiting until Dec 31 for Nintendo to fulfil their promise to release Mario Party 3 in 2023...

This was the first Excitebike game I play before learning about the NES and Wii games. Such a fun game, glad it's finally here.

@dustinprewitt I think you'd have a better chance at seeing Nintendo go third party than have a hard M-rated game like Conker show up.

As NSO and Expansion subscribers, we should be able to look forward to a collection of games being added to each app at the end of each month. But no, we get nothing of the sort.

When is nintendo going to allow us to buy these games?
Why are they so stingy? At least game pass gives u this option..

@dustinprewitt I meant in terms of Nintendo making games for PlayStation and Xbox; you'd have a better chance of that happening than seeing the feces and gore squirrel game show up on NSO. :V

Let's do an entire article about a single N64 game being released...

I will happily revisit this game, but I’m hoping some of the more hidden gems of the N64 library start showing up. I’d like to see the Snowboard Kids games and the one I really want to see show up here is Beetle Adventure Racing. Unfortunately due to licensing I doubt that one will actually come over, might have to just pick up a used copy some time. So many great memories renting that game

Nice. Never had Excitebike for the 64 but it's been up there on my list of games to experience on the console for a long time.

I love this game, but there are so many other N64 games I wish we could get. Please, Microsoft, let Nintendo put up ALL or Rare's games! Or just give us Rare Replay already!!!

If F-Zero X was not enough to get N64 SP editions, this game surely will be. Getting all the extra modes would give most people nightmares.

Now 1080 at winter time. (But still missing my fav 64 games. Blast corps. Robotrpn 64).

So based on what we have left, I'd guess the rest of the year for NSO is:

• September - Batch of Mega Drive games, batch of NES/SNES/GB games (includes Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru for Japan)
• October - Harvest Moon 64, F-Zero Maximum Velocity
• November - Mario Party 3, Golden Sun
• December - 1080 Snowboarding, Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, batch of Mega Drive games

Any chance of getting the N64 wrestling games? WWF No Mercy, Wrestlemania 2000 i mewn hell, i would even take WCW Revenge.

If we can get any of these games, I'll be so happy.

On a side note though, i must say, in terms of value for money, the Switch online really isn't too bad now, the sheer amount of games you have access too for £35 a year is quite mind boggling.

This is an excellent choice. Excitebike 64 is really a cool game. I have many memories of multiplayer sessions with family and friends with this one

I really miss Nintendo radical sports games. Wave Race, 1080 and ExciteBike were so much fun.

They got one thing wrong in the promotional material. This was not the "capital E era of EXTREME sports". It was the capital "X" era. eXtreme.

Great news. I do remember finding this game very frustrating back in the day, but then again I was a kid and I found a lot of things frustrating. I even bounced off Wave Race 64, a game I found to be phenomenal on NSO.

Another good addition... the only game I'm maybe missing is probably Conker's Bad Fur Day, but otherwise, the n64 online library is already incredible

Great game great game Great game. Timing the boost takes a bit of practice but once you nail it it’s awesome

I played this until Jumpin’ Jim Rivers was burned into my brain back in the day. And that track editor is where I put a lot of hours in usually just making insanely huge hills. The replay function was fun too as that’s how my friends and I used to make Red vs Blue-style videos and crash replays.
Can’t wait to get on the track again!

Also adding here that I can’t wait to get past these previously confirmed games so we can move into the next “wave” WHICH BETTER INCLUDE CASTLEVANIA 64!

Was so hyped for this game before it came out (helped by the release being delayed in Europe). It definitely delivered as the game is really fun with a nice variety of modes and tracks.

Can’t wait to play this one again. This was a fun game in the n64 days.

I know people hated it in the NES and SNES catalogs, but I really wish they’d bulk up the list with a bunch of N64 games no one remembers/cares about. That’s part of the fun of NSO to me—getting random stuff like Earthworm Jim 2 and Rygar. Heck, some of them are hidden gems, like Wild Guns and Joe & Mac.

I’d at least like to see Banjo-Tooie and Buck Bumble on the service.

NOTHING! That was my favourite stunt move in the game, and it's also the amount of time I will play this game. Sorry Nintendo, happy to buy the few games I like outright; still won't waste any money on an annual subscription.

@Dazman $50 every year to play a handful of games is a rip off. That's why I hate these models: they presume everyone is all in for everything. No. Many of us want to play a few games. Many want to dabble. There's no consideration for this variation. It's a disgrace.

@HalBailman I don't know. It's the cost of a meal at a restaurant, and that's gone in an hour. I collect physical copies of (good) N64 games but it's still nice to have them on the Switch online expansion.

@HalBailman please do also cry about Amazon, Netflix, Disney Plus and subscription services too. Subscription services is just the current trend these days. I’d be paying much more for games on NSO overall if I had to pay for everything separately. So the subscription service is of value to me.

@HalBailman This argument is getting old. If you brought these separately you'd get 4-5 at best to the price of the annual subscription, which includes 100's of games plus other online service features. It's a bargain @ $4 a month. Tell me you don't have any other subscription services, it's exactly the same.
If you don't want to subscribe don't, just because it doesn't suit your needs doesn't be it's not good.

@Dazman It's a bit of a hassle switching between them all for me, I'm glad I can play them here! And some are just too rare or expensive to invest in them, Dr. mario 64 and Mario party 1 go for pretty high prices at the moment! (Although I did snatch MP1 last year and was so proud of that! )

I had Excitebike on the N64 but after a while got bored of it for some reason. I don't like racing games where you're going over hills and into the air all the time for some reason. Might give it another shot now though.

@Bass_X0 I don't do any of them. Not crying either, nor did I question NSO's value to you. That's the problem I originally highlighted: that it's an all in scenario. Fine if it works for you, it does not for me.

Gone! So I need to pay another $50. Then another. It doesn't work. Clearly the solution is Nintendo offer both types of access: subscription or outright purchase, depending on individual need. Many people have expressed frustration that purchasing is not an option. So our $$ go elsewhere.

As for other subscription services, as I said to the other user, I have none. So there! I still buy the odd CD and blu-ray. Thankfully those industries offer a choice. Unlike extortionate Nintendo.

What you seem to be intentionally neglecting there is that the next year you would spend another $50 on other games as well as the $50 you spent on that previous year. Then the year later, you’ll spend another $50 on games released that year too. That’s why it’s such a good deal; over a period of two, three, four, five years you’re saving money overall with the subscription service instead of paying for games you want separately over that same period of time. You are not paying for the same games again, you’re paying to play the new games released that current year.

Your math is wrong and you’re getting upset at Nintendo because your own math is wrong.

With Wii, 3DS and Wii U Virtual Console, I spent a lot more every year than the annual NSO subscription service overall. And now I don’t play my Wii or Wii U anymore, and rarely play my 3DS.

I like the NSO for the convenience, I'm interested to give this game a try as never played it. Weirdly, my most wanted NSO game at present remains the original Super Mario Land on GB, though I do have the original cart and the 3DS VC version. Switch GB emulation looks really nice.

@electrolite77 Other than, I don't know, Winback, I haven't had this experience with any of the N64 games featured. Most play exactly like I remember them, if I played them at all back in the day. Some play better because the framerate doesn't suck. (I like Goldeneye more now.)

I mean, I notice these games are 25 years old. But I also don't really agree with most people on what has "held up" or not.

I definitely struggle with, say, the camera in Mario 64, just like everyone does. Not so much the controls, which I think are great once you learn them.

But then , for instance, I don't mind the PS1 aesthetic, because to me that's just a unique vibe. I didn't own a PS1, so it's not nostalgia. It's just, well, games today look a certain way and that's great. But when I sit down with, I don't know, Parasite Eve or MGS, that's a unique look to me. And I know that's what I'm getting into before I even turn on the console.

Same with, say, the controls in Ocarina of Time. They're certainly stiffer than modern Zelda, but the controls are also perfectly built around what the game's asking you to do. So I just learn them, whatever. Not a big deal. Easier than Tears of the Kingdom, even!
