I sold my DS Lite when I got my DSi. Then I sold that for a DSi XL, sold that for a 3DS, sold that for a New 3DS, then finally sold that for a New 3DS XL.

My New 3DS XL does currently have a charge. I use it semi regularly still. Great system. Insane library.

Very very cute starters. The world looks really interesting as well. I haven’t played any Pokémon games since Sword, and I barely played that one…but I’m already pretty excited about this one.

I’ve been using my New 3DS XL a lot lately.

I’ve had it since launch, and it’s still going strong. Some of the red paint started to chip, so I put a clear case on it, and now it shouldn’t do that anymore. I’m gonna make sure this thing lasts me a lot longer.

@SplatRay001 Hyped? No. But I will gladly play what is on here and come back for the next drop of games.

It’s weird that they couldn’t just release them all at once. It’s not like Virtual Boy has a very big library or anything.

I played them all yesterday, and I had strong immediate impressions of all of them.

Great: Wario Land, Innsmouth

Good: Teleroboxer, Red Alarm, Galactic Pinball (it’s good, but not for me)

Bad: Golf, Tetris 3D

The Mansion at Innsmouth really surprised me. I never knew Virtual Boy had a first person dungeon crawler survival horror game. And it’s pretty fun too.

@IronMan30 I just listened to a really great interview with him on the podcast Post Games, and it’s clear that there is nothing nefarious about the title or any of the themes of the game.

@Kilamanjaro The timeline hardly matters. I’ve just been playing through them relatively in number order.

Playing through them in timeline order seems messy since you’d be jumping around between vastly different play styles and graphic styles.

@hcfwesker The Yakuza series has nothing to do with the Shenmue series.

I always avoided the PS1 original based on its reputation. Then the improved 3DS version never got my attention.

Now I’m really into Dragon Quest, so I’m playing this new version. And I love it. I appreciate all the quality of life updates as a dad with a full time job. I don’t have time for 100+ hour RPGs all the time like I used to.

I loved the demo. This has a major possibility of being my favorite game of the year if it keeps that quality level.

@KingChiliPepper I’m a recent Falcom fan as well, and playing the early Trails games has involved a lot of bouncing between my Vita and my Switch so far.

Sky trilogy was great on Vita (fan translations), Crossbell games are great on Switch (on Azure now), next up I’ll have to play 2 of the Cold Steels on Vita, before finally being able to consistently play the rest of the games on my Switch.

They need to get them all in one place. Same goes for Ys!

@dskatter Crossbell has some character stuff that really needs to come after Sky 3rd, so I doubt they would skip that one in the remake release order.

@dskatter All 3 of the Japan-only Vita Trails in the Sky games have English fan translations that use the PC script. They feel like native English copies in every way. You are correct though, in that they never had official English releases.

They require custom firmware, but I think they’re worth the trouble. Those games were the reason I modded my Vita.

@dskatter I played all 3 games on my Vita, but I guess most people don’t have one of those. Without a Vita or a PC, I guess the only options are PSP emulation or waiting. Dang.

@dskatter You should really just play them in order. I just got through the Sky trilogy and now I’m on Trails From Zero. There’s already been a bunch of connections that I would have missed if I skipped Sky 2 and 3.

I got my order in. Do I need it? Hell no.

@sportvater I just beat Metroid Prime Remastered in about 20 hours, and I thought the last few hours dragged until the last two bosses. I’m so happy to hear this one isn’t longer than that.

@xenobladexfan So I just tried to watch the beginning of the video to fill in any cutscenes I may have missed in my playthrough so far.

I’m very confused now, haha.

It showed the intro animation (which works on Switch 2), a quick flash of a train (which I’m pretty sure I saw, but it wasn’t anything besides a shot of the train), then it immediately goes to a car action sequence that I definitely shouldn’t be seeing yet. That’s where I stopped watching.

So I don’t think I’ve actually missed anything yet. I feel good about that. I thought I’d have missed a bunch of cool scenes, but there’s nothing yet.

@xenobladexfan Oh! That’s interesting. I don’t recall a single anime cutscene between chapters, so I guess they just skip them if you’re playing on Switch 2.

There isn’t even any indication that you’re missing anything. The game just continues and feels totally natural. Weird.

@xenobladexfan Interesting. In my 30 hours or so in that game, I haven’t had any crashes yet whatsoever.

@xenobladexfan What are the issues with Trails From Zero? I just started chapter 3 today, and I haven’t had a problem yet. Anything I need to worry about?

@Wewewi Many people have played this game thanks to the ease of emulation. The first time I played it was on NESticle in the early 2000s. Most recent time I played it was about a month ago on my Ayn Odin.

It’s a fun game, even though it was overlooked at its original launch.

I love this game, but I always find the later levels to be really difficult and repetitive. I can’t beat it. I always just give up after a bit.

But the gameplay feels so good, it looks great, and it’s just a blast overall. Maybe I’ll get through it next time I try.

@AussieMcBucket It’s just pronounced “Ball Pit.” Like the anime series Spy X Family or Hunter X Hunter. Xs are used in weird ways.

@NinjaWaddleDee I just played the Sky trilogy for the first time (Vita versions), and I’m currently on the next game in the overall series (Trails From Zero).

If you don’t enjoy the slow burn now, you’re probably not going to enjoy these games. The slow and cozy vibes run deep.

But then the exciting highs REALLY pop. The first game ends so strong and then it just keeps it up for the entirety of the second one. I love this world and everything that’s going on within it.

@canaryfarmer As far as I know, it’s just that you can’t see up skirts. Which is totally fine by me.

Does anyone know how Switch and Switch 2 versions work in regard to using them both at the same time on different systems?

I got the Switch 2 copy preloaded on my Switch 2 system. My wife really wants to play too, so I loaded the Switch 1 version on there.

I technically only bought the game once, but they’re two different versions… so I figure we should be good to play them both at the same time.

Anyone have any idea if this will work or not? Haha. It’s such a weird situation that I haven’t found myself in until now.

I’m up to Greymoor after maybe 5 hours, and I’m not finding it too difficult. I’ve died a small handful of times. Overcoming challenges in these games is usually just pattern recognition. It’s not asking me to do anything too crazy yet.

I’m still knee deep (about 50 hours) into The Hundred Line, so I was worried I’d have a strong urge to play this one too. Maybe down the line on a sale, but I’ll hold off for now.

The Hundred Line is amazing though.

@topsekret Cold Steel 1&2 and the whole Sky trilogy are weird eShop omissions. I would buy all 5 of those instantly, and I know I’m not the only one.

Fantastic. I just started playing the Ys games last year, and next up I have either Celceta (was going to play the Vita version) or Seven (PSP).

I think I’ll play Seven first then I’ll grab this one on Switch next year. Perfect.

I love the base game, so of course I’m buying the expansion. I’m pretty sure it’s my favorite Kirby game.

@Johnny44 There’s honestly not that many 2D-HD games yet. And I’m pretty sure this is the first one that is an action RPG.

This game is going to be so good. I love 2D-HD, and this looks like it plays like an Ys game. Hell yeah.

@Friendly Various Daylife is indeed a ridiculous title. I will fight for Triangle Strategy and Octopath Traveler, because at least those make sense.

@KingMike The original Switch 1 Pro Controller is indeed fully compatible. It just lacks the programmable back buttons and it also can not turn the Switch 2 on or wake it up from Sleep Mode.

Hell yeah. I look forward to seeing news about US releases for Proud Nordics and the Switch version of Memories of Celceta.

@Altaria_97 I always felt like 4 was a big step down from 3, so it’s not like you’re missing much there anyways. It’s still fun though.

@Altaria_97 I heard you could extend the times too, but I imagine the whole flow of the stages was changed to fit the 2 minute time limits. Extending the time won’t make the missions work exactly how they did on the original game.

My Switch 1 when docked was wired via Ethernet. It downloaded pretty fast docked or in handheld.

My Switch 2 docked is also directly wired. Also downloads fast either way.

Switch 2 might be faster, I guess? Both go fast enough that I don’t really think about it.

I’m just about to beat Trails in the Sky 3rd, so it’s nice to hear about the latest game. I’ll catch up eventually.

I’m really digging the series so far.

So nope, no scratches on my 2 yet either. I don’t use screen protectors, but I don’t leave it out anywhere. It’s either on the dock or in the carry case when I’m not using it.

My favorites are DS, World, 8 Deluxe, and 7. I’m having a blast with World.
