@ozwally That ship sailed ages ago. At least perplexity gives its sources. When the internet started sucking was the rise of ad networks and incompatible proprietary systems. (When people had banner ad’s relevant to the content I didn’t have any issues with it). Don’t know why people expect Google to not do what it’s doing when they deliberately allow Google’s crawler to access their content.
@Serpenterror Both Street Fighter 30th and The SNK 40th are really poor in the way digital eclipse has done things on Switch. Definitely very noticeable to me. (The SNK games are done properly by hamster in the cases I have checked which admittedly is only I think 2 games.) They could do better but choose not to (hamster is a tiny company by comparison.) That first Megaman collection is quite awful on Switch also (Not clear whether that is digital eclipse or not).
Have Digital Eclipse sorted their Switch input lag issues ? I have had problems with quite a lot of their switch releases. (Often 2 frames more than Xbox which really is noticeable.)
I don’t know how hamster manage it but it shows that it can be done well.
Does the Switch 2 do anything for any of these problems ? (I think I have re bought most of them at this point but I would rather use the SNES controller for e.g this not if it has 2 frames more input lag though)
@Sindayl Don’t know why Dance Central didn’t last with Kinect. I definitely think that deserved to succeed. Not that I am great at it but I certainly see that it has a point.
The Tom Whitehead period didn’t seem to have the same quantity of clickbate as NL has now. I think I probably agree with it being an 8/10 game it isn’t as good as Xenoblade.
(I wonder if Tom Whitehead still plays Mario Tennis I used to match against him quite a lot on 3DS Mario Tennis Open but haven’t played since then hopefully the new one plays like a new game I expect it to.)
@Lord Not really interested in Game Gear sort of interested in Master System but the games I am really interested in I think are likely to be 50hz optimised which does pose a problem. Some of the game gear ports have awful restrictions even with the earlier games.
(Obviously I would take Saturn or DC if it was done right.)
I am quite enjoying the time trials on the fastest speed. But I don’t really like the racing because I can’t use the most fun gadgets without relying far too much on luck. (I don’t enjoy playing it with just the gadgets that make getting hit by items less bad. It’s sad because I could really like it with extremely minor changes. In contrast to Mario Kart where it would need to be a new game.)
I think ff just isn’t as good as Dragon Quest from VII onwards. (I think the story of FF VI is so much better than FF VII - I don’t get why they are rereleasing DQ VII so soon after last time however.)
I am totally not bothered either way. I don’t even look at the box art. (Use what is written on the edge). Thinking of getting one of the hori game card cases to make finding the carts a bit easier.
I wish we went back to a time where collectibles were less prevalent. (I would prefer any other method for fully unlocking all the levels. e.g a time trial. The KONG letters are okay because they don’t stop playing the game properly.)
Getting stuck was never really an issue for me as kid. I think that is a better problem to have than the situation my cousins son has where is done with Nintendo games so quickly that it’s just a waste of money.
I think increasing the difficulty from about half way through wouldn’t really affect the other kids who are more often than not bored by then anyway.
(I do accept that these games are for kids but it certainly wouldn’t have suited me. I can accept the collectibles in Mario 64 as necessary for the limitations of the time as well.)
I don’t think rogue prince of Persia is excellent I think it is so boring. (The amount of grinding required is really excessive and it is just not fun)
@Zeebor15 I read a bit about why Unity is so crap most of the time. (But iOS isn’t effected due to it being compiled to fairly decent c++ on that platform - makes sense Hades 1 was so good with the delisted Netflix version.) I think the gist of it was either switch to dot net core or implement every platform like iOS (they have ruled out both approaches so it is likely to stay rubbish.)
I only pay for 1080p ad free Netflix. I would want to watch this in 4k so chances are I will buy it digitally from Apple. The price Premium for 4k on Netflix I think is too high. (I have it on prime and there is only one tier with Apple TV+). If Netflix does get WB it might be worth it but I am unsure still..I wish I could get a streaming service that used Truehd + Atmos. (Kaleidoscape I would like but without a real cinema room I don’t think I would get enough out of it. Might be something I will do if I get inheritance I don’t really need).
@Shade_Koopa That is the way Sony implemented it. The best way to implement it is the way MS did which doesn’t seem to need that. Can go down to 20hz (System set to 4k/120)
@Apkorv You would have thought so but look how much money SEGA made from Border Break I wouldn’t have thought that possible but it happened. There is no reason a VR Arcade game couldn’t make a lot of money. (Probably most of it in Asia but if it was good enough everywhere. But what is practical for a £30000 Arcade Machine is light years away from being cheap enough for home use which I think is fine.)
@foursider Why ? it has a really good dpad that works well for both 4 way and 8 way 2D games way symmetrical sticks for fps every way of using it is comfortable there is no gyro that is the only issue with it.
There are some Arcade games where it’s just not the same with a controller. I have never seen this at Arcade Club but I would want to try it but I don’t think I would be interested in a home version. (Like someone said above if it was a Saturn or dc game it would have had its own controller I didn’t mind that I had the Virtual On controller/Fishing Rod/the wheel / a fight pad for my DC. I don’t think it is worth it doing some games without. (Wii U Tank Tank Tank is great fun on the real cabinet but pretty awful at home. Nintendo is particularly bad. (Xbox driving games and flight sims at least have proper accessories.)
I prefer the Wii U pro controller layout if I had to use one controller for everything but I don’t so I use a combination of pro controller 2 / SNES NSO Controller (2D Platformers / Tetris 99) and 8bitdo m30 (I use the 8bitdo for Arcade Archives / ACA NEOGEO primarily and Ultra Street Fighter 2).
I think I collect controllers like some people collect amibo.
I bought it digitally when the game with all DLC hit £50 on Xbox. I like it more than Mario Kart World but they copied many of the worst properties of Mario Kart. (Like deliberately having a poor first lap being a better strategy than actually improving at playing the game).
Valve seems to have dealt with its position without being completely awful (Which seems to apply to the equivalent systems from basically everyone else can’t believe it’s necessary to sign up for Ubisoft rubbish on consoles to play a game you have bought even some offline ones then they spam you to hell).
I don’t think enabling the necessary prerequisites is worth it. I might have enabled them one time to see this if I could but not like seems required I dunno why there can’t be a pop up once yes or no for the information.
Digital Eclipse emulaton quality is more often than not pretty poor. (It is a little better on Xbox than Nintendo but there are others that manage to do a proper job basically all the time.)
@Jeronan I understand I think due to not being part of the EU you don’t get the thing where you only pay the tax once so you pay the German VAT and your MVA if you do that.
@Jeronan It’s €489 on Amazon.de why can’t you just get one from there ? (The same rules that apply to Xbox allowing anyone in Europe to buy from e.g Iceland or Norway (With no vpn tricks or adding addresses in countries you don’t live in or changing the region) should apply to buying physical goods from somewhere more competitive that’s in the single market.) The German price seems not too far off the UK one which is £430 including tax. (That should be approx €495). Even if the country you are in has a higher tax part of the rules is that you pay the local tax from where you buy from. (I used to buy a lot more physical goods from Europe before brexit.) Might as well take advantage of the bits that benefit individuals of the system. The only country that really is subsidised is Japan. I would be pleased to go back to a Wii U like Nintendo where they were trying to pull out alll the stops but I don’t think it will happen that way again. (The quality of those games was far higher than the Switch first party output.)
@NintendoWife It was discounted quite a bit in the UK (Small price to pay to stop scalpers though I think it was around £30 off. Still more significantly expensive than the subsidised prices that Japan has with their region locked SKU)
I had to use the in game remap in Bananza. (Couldn’t handle jump on A).
I don’t usually remap anything though. (I guess I would probably use one of the programmable back buttons on the pro controller 2 before changing anything of the defaults at a system level).
(Actually I use an 8bitdo m30 for Arcade Archives/ACA NEOGEO and quite often I use the buttons listed on the controller for them but I don’t change anything at a system level).
I hate playing BG3 with a controller. (Still hoping it goes play anywhere and failing that I might rebuy it on GoG). It really would be better with mouse and keyboard. (And I almost always prefer a controller because it feels more like relaxing). Mouse mode maybe would have been good for it. (Still don’t understand why they removed support for mouse and keyboard from the Series X build.)
@Strawblaze Yeah Japan gets a subsidised price but nowhere else does MS and Sony charge for games based on local relative income a lot more. I don’t know how Nintendo get away with making the digital codes having to match the country of the Nintendo Account in Europe. (Microsoft was forced to allow buying through any EU or UK store for Xbox they didn’t want to do it but in most cases Iceland / Norway or Hungary is quite a bit cheaper. No vpns or fake addresses or anything is needed).
I won’t even try the Nintendo demo aliasing annoys the hell out of me (Reason why I always hated the PS2 but the Dreamcast I really liked.) I might get it on Series X.
I got this on Xbox as a Christmas present. (Digital Deluxe). I don’t like the rubber banding feels like someone thought that was a good part of Mario Kart. Only trying on the last lap is not a strategy that makes for a fun game for me. Getting the hang of the gadget where if you do a Switch drift you get a full boost level is seeming fun though.

(For e.g a platformer I think if an AI created 10000 levels based on what is good I think say the top 100 levels would make for a good game.) Even more so if it was trained specifically on levels determined to be particularly good by someone. (I don’t see how that is any different to making an inspired by game).
The only MMO I really liked was the first EverQuest at the time when it first came out so there wasn’t loads of sites dedicated to how to do any (No fast travel either you wanted to cross continents you had to wait on the boat). It took me longer to get to get to level 23 than it took my younger brother to get to Max level but I had no interest in playing it like he was. (Looking up how to do everything optimally where to go to level what gear to use where to farm for epic gear.)
After writing all that I remembered I played Star Wars Galaxies even more but they completely broke that in an update to make it as much like WoW as thoy could. I played the emulator for a while as well. If they had stuck to it I would have probably stuck with it. (When everyone was grinding professions to try and get Jedi that spoilt it really.)
Playing Cross Worlds on Series X but I am getting annoyed that they copied the worst part of Mario Kart (The rubber banding. Transformed really didn’t have this issue).
I tried Never Give Up which is pretty much a Super Meat Boy clone but without a working dpad for whatever reason I don’t enjoy it. (I did use the Analog stick on Super Meatboy the first time I played it but only when the 360 controller was my only option I managed to finish the light world and do much better when I had a suitable controller with a none terrible dpad).
Still no love for ACA NEOGEO ? (There is a few on sale none of the really big hitters but it’s not like SEGA Ages where if one goes on sale they all die. I picked up the Snow Bros clone and already had prehistoric isle 2)
@StarCollector The GBC one is like a JRPG between matches. I haven’t played one since the 3DS one but it didn’t suffer from stupid sandbagging (I am not interested in playing online games where the best player doesn’t win nearly all the time)/so was actually quite fun to play online.
Doesn’t really make any difference to me but in many successful indie series the second game the main character is a woman. (And usually it’s the better game.)
But I don’t think Hollow Knight is that good. (Haven’t played Silksong probably it is better.) There is female Belmonts in good games.
Games are not like art or there would be people like say James Cameron is in film doing everything as well as they possibly can and to hell with anything that disturbs what he wants.
I am not really bothered about the art in games or even really the story only interesting mechanics and that they work well technically. All the extra stuff that comes with an AAA game is not that important to me. (Obviously I would prefer to have people making exactly what I want but it’s not going to happen everything caters for the lowest common denominator.)
@CaptainRPG No but Chef’s are generally not against things that help others make better food. If you are willing to put in the effort it is pretty easy to find a video from a top chef showing you exactly how to do something. They obviously have more experience but they do care (ans a group )about helping people eat better food.
@MontyCircus A disk doesn’t have to be bad the 8bitdo m30 is the best pad for street fighter that I have found. (I use it over a £200 hori fight stick because it’s too heavy to put on my lap.)
I have the Lamasoft collection on both Switch and Xbox and I wouldn’t recommend it on Switch. Seems that it is common with digital eclipse. (It doesn’t have to be as hamster seems fine regardless.)
It does suck that there is nowhere that reviews all the Arcade Archives releases. (This site originally was known for reviewing all Wii ware and VC) It seemed as if they paid for them all as well which made the content more credible to me. (Maybe that isn’t true.)
@sportymariosonicmixx Time Extension has better information about them but it is still not that great. Mystic Warriors/Mazinger Z/Cotton and Sunset Riders are probably my favourites. (Mazinger Z is really good and definitely worth its cost due to the license.)

The difference in the game design with regards collectibles makes me think that is the version for me.

Doesn’t really make any difference to me but in many successful indie series the second game the main character is a woman. (And usually it’s the better game.)
But I don’t think Hollow Knight is that good. (Haven’t played Silksong probably it is better.) There is female Belmonts in good games.
Re: "A Knife Can Be Used For Cooking Or As A Weapon" - Level-5 Boss Defends GenAI In Game Development
Games are not like art or there would be people like say James Cameron is in film doing everything as well as they possibly can and to hell with anything that disturbs what he wants.
Re: "A Knife Can Be Used For Cooking Or As A Weapon" - Level-5 Boss Defends GenAI In Game Development
Re: "A Knife Can Be Used For Cooking Or As A Weapon" - Level-5 Boss Defends GenAI In Game Development
@CaptainRPG No but Chef’s are generally not against things that help others make better food. If you are willing to put in the effort it is pretty easy to find a video from a top chef showing you exactly how to do something. They obviously have more experience but they do care (ans a group )about helping people eat better food.
Re: "This Just Didn't Fit Into My Gaming Lifestyle" - Hideki Kamiya Isn't Happy About Switch 2's Lack Of A D-Pad
@MontyCircus A disk doesn’t have to be bad the 8bitdo m30 is the best pad for street fighter that I have found. (I use it over a £200 hori fight stick because it’s too heavy to put on my lap.)
Re: Feature: "It's A Perversion Of The Whole Thing" - Jeff Minter On Scam Games, Switch 2, And 'I, Robot'
I have the Lamasoft collection on both Switch and Xbox and I wouldn’t recommend it on Switch. Seems that it is common with digital eclipse. (It doesn’t have to be as hamster seems fine regardless.)
Re: Arcade Archives Celebrates 500 Retro Releases With Special Commemorative Game
It does suck that there is nowhere that reviews all the Arcade Archives releases. (This site originally was known for reviewing all Wii ware and VC) It seemed as if they paid for them all as well which made the content more credible to me. (Maybe that isn’t true.)
Re: Arcade Archives Celebrates 500 Retro Releases With Special Commemorative Game
@sportymariosonicmixx Time Extension has better information about them but it is still not that great. Mystic Warriors/Mazinger Z/Cotton and Sunset Riders are probably my favourites. (Mazinger Z is really good and definitely worth its cost due to the license.)
