It seems a bit expensive to me. (I didn’t mind that sort of price for the latest Under Defeat port but that had significantly more effort put into it). I was more likely to get stuff I was not sure about for £6.29
@GrailUK Sony is not making any great first party stuff. At least Microsoft do have some decent games. (For me I usually get the recommended indie games from this site on Series X and I have been far happier since I started doing that. How long it will last I don’t know but if we went back to these games being Nintendo exclusives that wouldn’t bother me either). The Microsoft VRR makes everything appear to play perfectly. I could see some of the devs switching back to Nintendo only but I expect even if we do get VRR on Switch 2 it will be crappy like Sony’s implementation. PS4 was a lot better for Sony first party.
I wish they would have just patched in the map on second screen feature like we had when dual screen gaming was a thing. I would literally buy a Switch Lite just for that feature when it makes sense. (Maybe I would use it from another room as well- it has a proper dpad).
@spiderman0616 They get immediate money as far as I can tell and then sales on the other platforms. The problem for me with that strategy for me was the Nintendo versions were not up to scratch. (So I got a Series X where I now play all my indie games).
@Bass_X0 I would prefer less better games than more ones I don’t think are up to standard. (I was much happier during the Wii U period with what we got than the recent Switch period. (Even the indie games seemed to be made for the Wii U first not just a second rate port). It doesn’t make sense when the proportion of sales of most of the indie games are much higher on Nintendo are so much higher than e.g Xbox (Which is where I buy mine these days).
The items in All Stars Racing Transformed are pretty well done. (You can get a lucky win occasionally with an All Star item but for the most part online if you win it’s because of a perfect race which is what I want).
Because of the MiG device is it now possible to get your Switch / Switch 2 bricked by using a legitimate cart if someone copies it to a MiG then sells it ?
@PikaPhantom That is something I have heard but I don’t see why Nintendo selling the quality they do couldn’t get one custom made by LG who have had 120hz oled’s with VRR working fine for ages now for ages now. They have the volume to go for much more customised better tech but they never do. (On Mac 120fps Ultra Balders Gate 3 is possible.) I miss the much closer to state of the art that e.g the N64 had.
“It doesn’t always hit its target” Looks like I will get it on Series X or not at all. (VRR makes such a difference in not seriously annoying me). I hate this way of going about things. (If Nintendo is where they are likely to sell the most copies it should be made specifically for switch 2 and then ported afterwards).
Now that I have a series x I always take that for 3rd party stuff. (Even if it’s digital only and hence significantly more expensive). I might go for Hades 2 anything from the Shovel Knight guys / Image and Form. The from software exclusive but that is likely to be it.
I found the original incredibly boring (As in the fact that there is next to no NPC’s). Think people have forgotten what makes Dq/Chrono Trigger/ff6 good.
What does is interest me is 3rd party either exclusives (Or that may be ported much later but were built for switch 2 as the lead platform). There doesn’t seem to be many. (The Shien racing game and Hades 2 are all I know of there must be more).
Nintendo was my only console(s) from GameCube to Wii U but now I get most indies on Series X (Which has caused me basically zero problems. Most frequently getting games recommended here I am interested in. I have had terrible luck even with games rated 9/10 not working well on Switch).
I don’t care either way. I do care about VRR though over HDMI 2.0 (And if Microsoft managed it Nintendo should be able to). Although why they didn’t just go for 2.1 I don’t know.
The more I think about it I think splitting the console/handheld for me ended up being far the worse. (It seems everything seems to play it safe a lot more and the end result is loads more 2nd rate ports vs exclusives).
I have played a bit of it with my nephew I don’t think it compares well in terms of content to e.g Smash Ultimate (Nintendo made a big deal about the amount of content justifying a £75 price). It is probably worth £30 to me but no more. For myself if it’s not available at that price I am quite happy to not have it. (Or I would rather have DK at that price presumably if it’s good).
@Mgalens Yeah I just go for the cheapest braided one on Amazon for the length I want. (As long as it doesn’t have loads of negative reviews). I have never had one not work or go bad yet. Most of the cheap ones are usb 2.0 for data transfer but just for charging that doesn’t matter.
@Koda1000 I would have said at least 5nm or less (M2 is that). Problem with the way they go about it is the clock speeds end up gimped for the next however many years. (I wish when it was possible to run for the same two hours with a higher clock speed they let us).
I hope it has a good career mode. I don’t enjoy playing online until I have a decent level of experience with the the tracks but if the career mode sucks I won’t be interested in it enough to get that. I still wish it was Sumo Digital.
Reading that review I think I am not interested in it at all.
(Really doesn’t seem like a £75 game).
The PC version of All Stars Racing Transformed is my gold standard of games like this and what do. (I played the entire single player without getting bored before even touching the online).
I have bought my nephew a switch 2 with this but I am genuinely not bothered. (If Donkey Kong is not perfect I can see me waiting quite a while.)
Why did it suddenly become so rubbish for third party engines on switch. (Unity stuff on Wii U seemed ok ….)
I think the best thing for me to do would just ignore anything using a 3rd party engine entirely on Nintendo platforms.
(If it is not enjoyable playing something because of the poor experience I don’t want to bother).
For example they could have remade donkey kong country returns hd properly using the tropical freeze engine. ( I wish I had just played it on my Wii U at least that version is not fundamentally broken. Even a proper effort like they did for Super Mario Galaxy.)
The amount of games I get for Switch 2 is definitely going to make Nintendo less money than they have been getting from me in the past. (Dropping their standards might end up doing them harm in the long run though).
@Truegamer79 There was at least a reason for a slightly downgraded experience for home versions before PlayStation/Saturn. The arcade versions were basically the gold standard then. No reason to still be putting up with those compromises now.
I hope the dpad is better. (I have both a launch pro controller and a supposedly fixed one and still use the snes controller for most 2D games because of the better dpad).
Be interesting to see whether these support vrr. (I own both these but have barely touched them due to what I continue terrible performance). If it’s 60fps locked then great I will play docked but handheld would be okay with vrr I suspect.
It’s still disappointing that there is no VRR support for the external hdmi. Anyone know why (All I can think of is the SoC only supports the original proper gsync that used to require a fpga in the monitor but I am not certain by a long shot)
I would rather of have at least Map on the touchscreen and screen mirroring for the touchscreen style games. (Quite a few Wii U ports just don’t quite work right on Switch). May be technically even easier for them to do it using a Switch 1 using the game share feature but I think it’s super unlikely that they will.
@sanderev The difference is Nintendo always cheaps out on tech and it holds things back for the whole generation. They could have easily increased the clock speeds when they went from 20nm to 16nm. But even the stock Tegra X1 can run much better and people have managed to get rid of significant amounts of slowdown. (At least if those issues are not fixed on Switch 2 then I can give Echoes of Wisdom/Links Awakening a go on a modded Switch 1 as I have the carts). Looks like it might not be necessary though in this day and age there is no reason for a £50 game to be as bad as Nintendo has put there name to. (Even worse at £75). Total joke.
If the wheel is a first party accessory I think I might enjoy this game more than I was expecting. (I loved playing Mario Kart Wii with the wheel didn’t seem to work as well on the Wii U).
@PessitheMystic One thing that is apparently possible is stopping the Tegra X1 being downclocked which apparently fixes Links Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom at least. (Hopefully the switch 2 fixes both issues). I don’t know what the reasoning.
I wish they had gone for a newer process technology so it didn’t need to be downclocked. Docked it should be able to run at full speed regardless but that doesn’t seem to be the case. (Modders seem to have the switch 1 working much better for some games with it running at the X1 full speed although I haven’t tried it).
I don’t think it was good enough technically for the money. (The version of Super Mario Galaxy in 3d All Stars I was fine with). It feels like a 2nd rate port. Far too buggy has slowdown. 2 player mode is unplayable in the later game.
@X68000 I wish they were a bit better at stating whether Switch was the lead platform. (Or if it is noticeably worse than other versions). I went through a list similar to this for Europe and considered 2/3’s unplayable.
Japan is getting a much better deal. (I haven’t imported anything for Switch unlike SNES/N64 - SNES games and I imported a USA N64 because it was significantly better). I have about 60 physical Switch games and loads of downloads (Although I go for Series X for indies now due to too many just not being good enough on Switch). I will get a Switch 2 but my attach rate will go way down). I am spending more for the same indie games on series x but so far it has been worth it.
I don’t understand the attraction to Mario Kart. The only ones I have really got into are the SNES original and the Wii one (With the wheel). I played MK8 quite a bit (40hrs maybe) on the Wii U but barely touched Deluxe. Found the Switch DLC not as well done as the first lot.
I got much more out of Diddy Kong Racing/All Stars Racing Transformed (PC)
I can understand wanting to do something about the amount places such as Cex have made on the back of not really doing much. (Sucks that they are nearly the only places left on the high street).
Hades works much better on my iPad than the switch version. (I wouldn’t have thought that it would be such a difference - If it wasn’t free via Netflix I wouldn’t have double dipped).
