As a Rayman fan who felt a bit betrayed by the rabbids replacing the proper Rayman 3D platfomers and not giving them a chance... I actually ended up liking the rabbids enough to want to check out a few of the rabbids games after playing Kingdom Battle and Sparks of Hope.
I do hope that the next Switch gets a third entry, as the first two were really good.
I really like the developer. I really want to like Slain: Back from Hell for all it does right in its audiovisual presentation I very much do like the original Valfaris since they really nailed the gameplay in that one, alongside the music and aesthetic. I played Mecha Therion earlier this year and had a blast.
I'd be willing to bet money at this point that they're going to pull "It's out now" with their last trailer, which makes the current lack of a release date part of the marketing.
Since we just got SNK Vs Capcom, the next logical step is Capcom Vs SNK 1 and 2, right?
After that, perhaps a Capcom Vs SNK 3?
It would also be neat to see the Power Stone games come back. I didn't own them, so I only got to play them briefly, but the 3D arena fighter setup was interesting.
Sometimes, I want to dive deeper into a classic catalog, especially when wanting to look past the standard "top x" lists.
I had the games I had back then and formed my opinions of at the time, but there were a lot I didn't.
Something like this that tries to be comprehensive might be useful to get direction on where to look for a platform, as going back, reviews can be fairly spotty, and people who are fans of specific games are just that.
Though looking through the list, I can tell that he didn't give most of these anything close to a good try. I played Ranger X for the first time last month, and without having any nostalgia for the game, I was able to figure it out and enjoy it far more than the review gives it credit for. It sounds like he stopped shortly after starting the second level, not taking the time to figure it out, which isn't even 30 minutes. Not sure how useful the list would be even for games on a specific platform.
I was far, far more interested in The Stanley Parable than this, and while I did buy the re-release of Stanley Parable, I didn't stick with it long. Long enough to play with a bucket, anyway.
Never got a chance to play The Punisher game before, and I'm a big fan of X-Men Vs Street Fighter onward (I owned all the titles that were on the Saturn, with XvsSF being a huge step up)
I haven't had a (legit) way of playing Marvel Super Heroes or Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter in a while, so those are especially nice to have, and obviously The Punisher for the first time, ever.
In the case of mods, Nintendo wrote none of the code, so the copyright, in theory, would belong to the author of the mod, and not Nintendo at all. If it was considered copyrighted to begin with.
I agree with the people saying PS1 / N64 is a good cut-off point. How long ago doesn't really have much to do with, but rather the shift in how games were designed. The very next generation, you've got online-enabled, fully 3D systems, like the Xbox, Dreamcast, and PS2. The games themselves could be fairly similar to modern games, just with lesser graphics. Unless we have another shift, anything PS2 onward may never truly be 'retro', with the exceptions of oddities like the Nintendo DS.
I just wish that they'd bring back the larger puzzles and 'try it out' mode of PIcross DS: Kind of disappointing that that they never brought those back.
I loved Gothic 1 and 2 back near release, even though they were really clunky, even for the time, and that was over 20 years ago.
Unless they get a massive overhaul (and they won't, as Gothic 1 Remake is a separate product) I can only imagine how clunky they are now. Still some RPG goodness here, but classic RPG goodness.
I was gaming in the 90s, and most of my games cost $1-5.
Because my games were either shareware disks from Public Brand Software, or Atari games from a thrift store or closeouts from KB's (which continued to carry Atari games for quite a while, at fire-sale prices)
Because that's what I could afford.
Nowadays... I try to get "big" games at 40% - 75% off, and probably the majority of my games are from bundles (which are usually $1-8 a piece) Because guess what? I'm still not rich, and games go on sale quickly, so why would I pay a full $70 when I may not even have the time to play a game within a few months of its release, and I got Alan Wake 2 straight from Epic two months after its release for $27 (before tax)
I played the demo kiosk with Red Alarm back in the day, and that was enough to make me want to get one. However, cooler heads (and my empty wallet... if I even had a wallet back then) prevailed, and I never did actually own one.
However impressive it was at the time, uh... I played Red Alarm on an emulator a few years ago and quit out within minutes. No, it has not held up, at all.
I do want to eventually try the Wario game, though. I don't think that that's essential to play on original hardware, though.
Steam may get more shovelware than Switch, but when I'm browsing a sale, I can count on Steam doing a much better job at highlighting the quality stuff than the Eshop ever does.
The biggest thing I want to know is how they improve the controls.
I replayed a good chunk of Tomb Raider 1 last year (up to around the point where the difficulty started getting way too high) and those controls are the biggest barrier to enjoying the game.
This really isn't a fan game, since it's a duplication of an official NIntendo game, so it's far more cut-and-dry that Nintendo isn't just within their legal right, but also justified to take it down.
That being said, the developer was very smart in not announcing it before release, and I look forward to trying it at some point.
I played the demo of this back when it showed up in one of the Steam Next Fests. I enjoyed it quite a bit (even if the solutions are a bit moon-logic) and will be picking up the full version when I can.
How do you even get anything meaningful through this program?
There were some pins that I wanted a while back, jumped through a ton of hoops to get enough points for them, and they were still gone before I even had a chance, and then, of course, they "expired" before anything interesting showed up again.
I'd really like another Spyro game in the vein of Spyro 1.
I played the Spyro games back in the day, but recalled not beating 2 or 3. When the Reignited collection came out, I happily played through Spyro 1 again, but some of the added mechanics in Spyro 2 and 3 just don't sit right with me, and once again, I didn't beat the later games. The core platforming and exploration stuff is good, and I wish that they stuck with it.
I'm generally pro-emulators, but it being proven that Dolphin contained Nintendo's keys is pretty damning. If using them at all was unavoidable, it was essential that they not be bundled with the emulator. As it is, Nintendo is within their rights to shut it down. Even the distribution that has already occurred can cause serious legal issues.
I hope that they bring the games into the new engine, and do things like zoom it out to at least Master System levels, and even better if it's actual widescreen.
I'm not sure if I'm excited enough about the games to buy it right away, but the better the enhancements, the more likely I am to jump on it... and my brain will nag at me until I get it in some form, so it will at least be a sale purchase.
I wish that they'd just sell the stuff, because I have no idea how to jump through all the hoops for platinum points. I tried doing a bunch of crap to get a Mario pin set, and that one was already gone by the time I tried to get it.
It sounds more like they're working on something actually new, but I'd definitely take a remaster if they're working on it.
The biggest problem with the current War of the Lions version is that there just isn't a practical way to play it. The screen of a tablet isn't ideal to begin with, and I just can't handle the number of inputs required to play it with a touch screen... and even though I have a controller, it doesn't work with one, at least for the ipad, as I don't have an Android tablet.
I liked this one quite a bit. There's less choice involved than the article suggests, as you tend to have only one or maybe two major paths available at any given time, but it's still an enjoyable experience.
I also never knew that these existed. I've been curious about Mother 1, but would not sit down to actually play it, so I'm especially interested in that one.
I'll likely read the other a bit later, as I'm quite familiar with Earthbound, but more details would be nice.

I dunno if they even are within their rights for things like the randomizer, which shouldn't include any Nintendo IP in itself.
Maybe a lawyer could explain how it even applies for mods.
Re: Comedy Horror 'Killing Time: Resurrected' Announced By Nightdive Studios

But, hey, Larian Studios is a privately held company, so Baldur's Gate 3 could be indie!
