@Cry_Zero

SSBWiiU was fun for sure, but being gimped for the sake of 3DS was no good. SSBU improved upon it in every way. Well, save for he shiny/smoother textures that sucked some life out of characters, as well as nixing the Japanese taunt voices.

SSBM played the best, control wise, SSBB had the best overall look (not talking pixels or FPS), SSBWii was a fun iteration, and SSBU took everything before it and made it into a really awesome complete package that I'm still playing today... 850hrs so far!

Re: Opinion: I Never Felt True Nostalgia Until I Played GameCube On Switch 2

GameCube was magical for sure. It was fun Nintendo. Color, quirkiness, and uniqueness all rolled and molded into a squarish box with a cute little handle and one of the best controllers this side of the mason dixon. The games were rich and exciting; new and engaging. It was peak Nintendo of old. I miss those days. I miss the risk, and loved the personal rewards.

Re: The DK Rap Is Back In Donkey Kong Bananza, But Nobody Told Its Composer

I'm a credits watching/listening kind of person, as sometimes neat things are tucked in there such as thank yous or little Easter eggs. Looks like Nintendo replaced the "thank" in thank you with an invisible four letter word. Sad. When movies use songs, even if redone, they note the original reference. For Nintendo to choose to use these songs in the game shows they know they are classics, and necessary for connection, but refuse to credit the source because it would show they weren't the creator/original source. Again, sad.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Hasn't Forgotten About Diddy & Dixie Kong After All

Was really hoping Diddy would be in the game, as in playable or as a piggyback buddy, but I get that Pauline is the focus given the story, so I'll take him and the gang as NPCs. So many references to the history of DK, that it feels like this is both a restart and celebration. I expect the next one to feature Diddy and maybe others now that the format is set and the story something to build on.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

@Sulleymonster

I actually stopped playing Link's Awakening the day it released because of the swamp area! Like, it wasn't great until then, but once I got to that point, I was disgusted and done. Switch 2 fixed almost all my issues, in docked mode.

I just tested out what you inquired about, and can confirm that while slightly better, it's not great. I immediately noticed the difference when I started up at the main village. I made my way to the swamp, and while it didn't have the stuttering/janky framerate that Switch 1 had, there's flickering abound - especially along edges of walls/borders. It also feels, when in motion, like someone smeared vasoline over the screen. It's unpleasant and unplayable undocked for me.

Hope that helps to confirm.

Switch 2 is one of the safest, most boring consoles Nintendo has ever released. Even the icon SFX are less "fun" sounding.

The new games I've tried, MKW and the Capcom action one, leave we whelmed. Now, getting to play Link's Awakening after years of shelving it due to performance issues, is a huge win... Just not something a new system should have had to fix. Same with the eShop.

The screen is fine (but should have been OLED), but battery life is not. Would have preferred a slightly thicker system to accommodate a bigger battery and more storage. The storage bump is great as is, but given the limited express card options, more would have been preferred.

I think the console needed to stand out more, as the portable competition is heating up. Coupled with the lack of overall innovation and increased prices, it feels less Nintendo than it should.

The camera should have been included, no extra cost, and provided enhanced Wii-level motion controls (or better). They should have brought back menu music and other options to make the system feel less cold. And they should have kept the game prices lower (especially given the game card debacle). And the system demo game should have been included.

Hopefully this version of the Switch actually sees updates to themes, colorful controllers (Pro), and other things to bring back the Nintendo charm.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Mario Kart World

@rvcolem1

I thought of that too when I first read of the price increases. However, Mario Kart (for me) is not a deep, engrossing forever experience. It's a pick up and play here and there experience. Not worth $80 to me. If they charged $80 for Smash, I'd be okay with that, as I'm up to 850hrs for that game. Same for Animal Crossing. It's a hard call to price games, I reckon, as each game offers a different experience to each player. There needs to be consistency, but I'm not sure how that can be achieved. I just hope $80 isn't the new norm.

Re: Review In Progress: Mario Kart World (Switch 2) - The Perfect Introduction To A New Console Generation?

Fun, but not $80 worth of fun. As other commenters have noted, many of the tracks feel samey. And the rando characters are cute and quirky, but lack of costumes makes their inclusion feel cheap. Hopefully future updates and extra tracks give this game reason to justify the price. As is, this is a great secondary launch game. DK should have launched alongside it, and both at $59.99.

Re: Nintendo Alarmo's Latest Update Adds Another Free Theme

foursider

I was excited to see the news today of the Animal Crossing theme pack, perhaps my most wanted. Sad and disappointed that all options feature chatter. I just want to the music. I don't know why Nintendo thought it ideal to feature in nearly every alarm theme sound pack, background noise. NES SMB doesn't, thankfully. I would love to have had the Roost music sans chatter. Or Harv's Island theme. Or Luna's theme. Or any of the unsung KK songs.

Looks like I'll be sticking with NES SMB for the foreseeable future. Shame.
