Overall, laaaaaame. Maybe I'm in a funk today, as this direct just has me complaining. 🙃
Oof, indeed. Cha-ching. This Direct was like multiple slaps in the face. DKB, already expensive, and then "paid" DLC. Capitalism is certainly in the air.
Ugh. This game looks worse by the Direct. Open world, and non-stop action. How has Metroid, of all games, lost its "vania?" And it's sense of adventure and exploration?
And the bike? I guess if Pokemon is going to ripoff Minecraft, Prime can ripoff Tron.
@garfreek
Yeah, I don't get how hard it is to remake a 2D game. Like, blow it up, sharpen/polish, make it widescreen, no blur, address any accessibility issues, and done.
Putting it out in the universe... My hopes and dreams:
1. Mother 3 (localized)
2. Super Mario Maker 3 (Yoshi's Island, Mario GameBoy version themes, Wario game themes)
4. Super Mario All-Stars Remaster (ala the Sonic remaster, where all the games are full screen)
5. Super Mario Galaxy 3
6. Mario Paint 2
7. Super Smash Bros 6 Teaser (with additional Mario character, level, and music added to SSBU)
8. Metroid Prime 4 Release Date
9. Super Metroid Remaster (fullscreen, accessibility enchantments)
10. Pokemon Red, Blue, & Yellow 2D-HD no-blur Remaster
11. Super Mario World 3 (with the look of SMW1 or 2)
12. Motion Control enchancements added to camera
13. SYSTEM THEMES AND MUSIC
14. Sega CD and Saturn added to Virtual Console
15. Super Princess Peach 2
16. Animal Crossing Switch 2 Teaser
17. Mega Man 12
18. Castlevania Symphony of the Night Remaster
19. Chrono Trigger 2D-HD no-blur Remaster
20. Yoshi's Island 3 (but just Yoshis!)
21. Big Blue (but renamed, failed Kickstarter project, aka Ecco the Dolphin), Switch 2 Exclusive
... and I'll stop there. As I could keep going forever. 🤪
They'll probably give us Wild World, followed, months later, by City Folk. 😝
I just wish they'd give us the OG Animal Crossing soundtrack. I need to listen to Working for Nook, the Rainy Day theme, and my fav (among many others)... 5p. 🥰
I haven't seen the updated icon, but thank goodness. Seriously, the original was an eyesore and didn't represent the game well at all. Hopefully the new one looks more colorful and fun.
It's not "too hard." It's just... it needs more save points near bosses. I do like that the map isn't super obvious, but I think showing save points would be nice (without the cumbersome activity of marking them with purchased markers).
I thought maybe the first game was just dark because of my old TV (plasma). My new TV is too bright, but this game is still... dark. I get that's the style, but it adds to things looking samey, and thus my getting a bit turned around at times and missing a save point and winding up fighting two bosses back to back.
Granted, I'm more explore than boss boss boss. And while this game isn't super boss heavy, it just feels like it given the irritating aspect of save points not being near boss battles and the need to travel to return to a boss if you died. I'm sure that's the point in making it a more challenging game, but the bosses never feel all that special. And thus, after beating a boss that wears out its welcome with it's samey nature that goes on for a bit too long, I never feel like I accomplished some great feat.
But now I'm rambling. I'm at Far Fields right now, however far into the game that is, and all in all, I really like it. However, I can't vote, as no options apply. It's not hard hard, it's not a cake walk. It's in-between, muddied by design elements I didn't necessarily like, but understand.
I wouldn't mind a slight difficulty reduction in boss battles. Not that they're hard, there's just a lot of them, and each is kind of long and samey. Or at least put a save station before each one.
I would love to be excited about this, as Kirby is my jam, but how Nintendo handles these tunes on the clock is just plain asinine. It should be just the music, not the background noise, and such. Waking up to the Great Fairy theme I thought would be rad, until you realize it sounds like a low-budge porno. I stick with the only retro selection, SMB, which cuts out a lot of the excess noise fluff and sticks to the melodies.
I still like the clock, though. I keep it on button mode, and like how it's pitch black until I roll over to see what time it is; the motion sensor screen on/off is great. I do wish there was a way to turn off the alarm if you get up before it or just for need it.
In either case, I welcome more alarms, just not hopeful of their execution. Definitely welcome more retro tracks, as those seen to fit perfectly. Maybe Kirby Superstar? Mario Paint would be amazing! Or EarthBound! ❤️🔥
For once, Miyamoto is wrong. Or rather, that I disagree. This configuration frustrated me to no end when I first got the game, so much so that I put it to the side and said, I'm done - for a solid week. It's like, I don't play my PS5 much because of this very reason. I'm too untrainable/dumb (my issue, I know). However, I remapped the button, tried it again, and 25hrs later beat the game. I even forgot to remap a couple times to try it the standard way now that I was feeling better about he game, but couldn't. It just ain't right. You can't do that to lifetime Nintendoers. It's cruel and unusual punishment! 🤪
Wasn't a fan of the first game, but given this was a whoping 45 minutes and all I wanted to do was play it, I'd give it an "outstanding." Sure, the whole time I was thinking, this could have been Smash Bros, but I'm happy he got to do what he wanted to do. It looks fun!
Mania was amamiazing. Christian knocks Naka out of the picture with his talent at creating a fun new, classic Sonic. I would have loved to have had Mania 2. Shame.
I'm not into simulation games at all, but knowing someone from Celeste is part of this, I'm sold. Disasterpeace is a big win, too. I didn't finish Hyper Light, but enjoyed the score.
I think timelines for Nintendo's franchises take away from the point. Nintendo franchises, by in large, are not story driven. They don't need backstory. They just need to be. And what they typically are, is fun. And that's all I want. I don't need to know when where or how any element factors into some chronological creation. Sure, for a true sequel I might need some dots to connect, but overall, the timeline can be sidelined.
78GB!? Oof. Yet another game I can't download without massive storage cleanup thanks to Switch 2's limited storage solutions. The fact that 1 or 2TB cards are not readily available, and affordable, is extremely frustrating, disappointing, and poorly thought out on Big N's part.
Such an amazing, iconic game. I remember as a kid switching this one on just to leave it at the title screen so could hear that melodically marvelous music.
I wish they'd do more hand drawn games like this. Kirby Dreamland 3 was great, but the Gooey mechanic made it kinda bleh.
It's Kirby, so no brainer day one upgrade pack download for me. Hopefully the star effect layer to the existing levels feels truly fresh and fun... And hopefully tweaks the original level music a bit so it really shines as new. Of the new abilities, I think the gear looks the most fun to use. Not sure about the the sign ability. Like, really? That's the best they could do? 🤪 Overall, looks fun, colorful, and right up my alley.
@Thomystic Exactly! Mood music prevailed in Dread, and made it feel less like Metroid than it should have (to me). Metroid, Super, and Prime all had scores beyond background music. Prime less so (especially as the series went on), but it still created something special. Fingers crossed Prime 4 returns to the series' roots.
Thank jeebus. Please go work at Nintendo again and let them know that music [helps] make a game. Like, actually melodies... not the mood, atmospheric music they've been dishing out here of late.
Just imagine a new Zelda or Metroid with actual hummable tunes. Like, there are hardly any new Nintendo song remixes on OCR or in general, as there's no actual music anymore!
Pretty sad when one of the hottest consoles around gets a showcase this lame. Like, I'd get it if Nintendo was in their low-selling days, or if it was a brand new system/concept. But... Switch 2 couldn't get any samey-er than its predecessor and this is the best developers could do? Oy vey.
Should have been packed in, and should have been used to enhance motion controls as well. Had one ordered hoping for the later, cancelled when I realized a) it wouldn't, and b) I'm ugly.
I'm a controller snob, and collector, so of course I bought one. Mainly because I thought Switch 1's controller needed improvement, and I wasn't sure if it'd wake the Switch 2. However, the Switch 2 controller is only modestly better. Main improvement, feel. That's it. In fact, I'm having issues with the d-pad. Ghost inputs. Like, hitting up or left (or is it right?) and I get a double input effect. Very disappointing. But, with this new Nintendo, not surprising. Switch 2 joy-cons... Also trash. My left joy-con is clicking or clacking (only in one direction) in sound when using the "a"-pad. Works, but ungodly irritating to use. In fact, I don't play undocked because of this. To fix, you have to send the entire system in. Not just the joy-con. But I digress. Switch 2 Pro Controller is probably amazing, if you need one and get a good one. I just miss the GCN/WII Nintendo that actually prioritized quality control.
I was thinking there was, but haven't tried it yet. May give it a whirl and see if it helps. Thanks for confirming. I was just so disheveledly disappointed from my initial playthrough that I just had to shut it off before checking. 🫠
