Re: Nintendo Announces Launch Line-Up For Switch Online Virtual Boy

foursider

I remember Red Alert and Wario, but that's it. Looking forward to trying all these out! In short bursts, of course. Gotta protect the eyes!

@garfreek

Right!? They're sitting on a treasure trove of games to add and are taking their sweet time, and when they do release something it's often, like... what? That game?!

It's also been way too long since they released a Genesis game. Which makes me think my dream of seeing Sega CD and Saturn systems/games hitting NSO will never come true. 😮‍💨

Re: Random: Mario Wonder's New Box Art Might Be The Ugliest 'Switch 2 Edition' Cover Yet

It is ugly. Busy. Awful. Worse than if they had AI do it, and that's saying a lot. It's a stark contrast to the wondrously magical days of SNES and N64 boxarts... Which is omnipresent, but reminded of in the resent NLife article, "News EB Games Is Closing Some Stores In Australia This Month," with its screencap featuring the delightfully amazing SMW2 Yoshi's Island boxart. That, people and people, is how you do boxart.

Re: "I'm Excited To Meet You" - Devon Pritchard Makes Her First Public Appearance As President Of NoA

foursider

A first appearance, and televised at that, had to be nerve racking, even for a person at her level (nervously putting her hands in her pocket for less than a second... been there!). I thought she did great all in all. Her blurb could have been better, but was welcoming and inclusive, and spoke to the gamer, which I appreciated.

She's no Nintendo noob, employed at Nintendo now for 20 years, so she'll certainly have a unique perspective from that of Reggie and Doug. Sure NOA is just a company, but having worked at a few companies in my day, a good leader isn't just about sales and such, a good leader helps foster a culture of caring that trickles up and down the ladder. Thus, the real test, and game, begins.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

foursider

So many times in such a short amount of time played I've said to myself, that's it I'm done. This game is obtuse. Bad. Lazy. Ignorant. Unfun. And I think I'm finally done with it. Thrice I've tried enduring the icy wolves scene, and I can't. I don't have the patience and energy to deal with some inane preset filler moment to end so I can move on. Not after meandering for so long in the droll desolate desert just to get to this point. This game isn't just, good enough, it's just unfunly dumb. Metroid can do better. If Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Pikmin and others can continue on as is, often better, then so can Metroid. This game is a slap in the face to the series. Right up there, or down there?, with Other M.

Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Cheap Upgrade, But Lacking Substance

foursider

The upgrade price, given ACNH is already a complete game, is more than okay with me. If it were $10 or even $20, I might grumble but still get it. It's Animal Crossing, so of course! However, I am disappointed. It sounded like a lot of extras on paper and during the excitement of the direct (given it caught me off guard), but in reality, it's pretty lacking and... meh.

I would like to have seen a graphics boost (60fps), ways to reset specific areas of your town and not just the whole thing, the ability tailor the hourly music heard (via previous Animal Crossing games), another museum addition, an expansion of Nook's Cranny, the return of Gracie, the option to not have neighbors visit your house while in it (maybe that's already an option?), and more added to Harvey's Island. Now this would be an update!!

@KazooieTooie

You're poo-pooing someone else's joy? Interesting! But why would I be happy, you ask? Because I love all things Animal Crossing and I've always thought jumping would be cool, and if it's an added feature to a bonus update for an already cram jammed game, what's not to be happy about.

However, I finally got around to playing, and you can't technically jump. It's just part of the new, odd, sidestep L-button thing. More of a hop. Oh well. Still neat.

Re: An Overlooked Disney Collection From Digital Eclipse Has Been Rated For Switch

Blathering blatherskites!!! This is awesome. Would love the DuckTales remaster, too, but I get keeping it limited to the originals.

They need to have someone make a Gummi Bears game to complete the Disney Afternoon theme. Better late than never, I say!

@the_beaver

Quackshot was awesome! I would love the chance to play that one again. And Gargoyles, too.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2025 'Year In Review' Is Available Now

My 2025...

95 games and 470 hours!

My most played games...

1) Hades II - 92hrs
2) Smash Bros - 92hrs
3) Fortnite - 52hrs

Action is my genre of choice at 46%, with character driven titles dead last at 4%, which checks out.

9 Years Later...
Smash Bros - 883hrs! 🤯
Animal Crossing - 261hrs!
Vampire Survivors - 121hrs!
BoTW - 117hrs & ToTK -136hrs!

So many games, so little time. 🫠

Re: Nintendo's Investors Are Reportedly "Spooked" As Stock Slides

foursider

@TerribleTerabytes

I mean, they don't need one need one, but like... if they aren't going to play the graphics power game (which I respect), they need a certain, je ne sais quoi, to stay relevant and capture casual and core audiences. I know I always look forward to what'll set their next console apart from the former.

Switch 2 was the most iterive console since the SNES (by my quick calculations). Granted, the SNES was, is, amazing and those were different times, but still. Switch 2 was too safe. They needed the graphics boost, no question, but also needed something else, something fun, something purely Nintendo. GameChat and mouse controls are not enough.

They aren't Sony who can share the higher end gravy train (Xbox, PC, Steam), and thus if they're not going to launch with what sells systems, such as with an AAA franchise title(s), then what's happening now is to be expected, especially without the gimmick, with the price hike, and other issues.

They're not doomed, and these "spooky" times will pass, but with other consoles preparing their Switch like portable take on things, Nintendo needs to put on their Nintendo pants and Nintendo.

Re: GameStop Kicks Off 2026 By Reportedly Shutting "Hundreds" Of Stores

foursider

Back in the day I felt like Norm from Cheers heading into my local GameStop, and before that, Babbages. They'd see my car pull up, and start getting my order ready, or ask me if heard of this game or that game based on my previous purchase history to gather my opinion or let me know of something I might like. They'd go to great lengths to secure things for me, such a pre release bonuses, etc. Great customer service and care, even to a, then, reserved young gamer. Even before I went all digital, I started noticing the decline of GameStop. A revolving door of staff, and near the end, zero customer service. I went into a GameStop for the first time in ages over the holidays, and like another poster noted, it was 10% games, 90% merchandise; reminiscent of the FYE store I also visited - a handful of albums, no CDs or movies, but a store chock full of kitschy junk. So sad. And while a feel bad for the stores, the community impact of their absence, and the workers, I'd also really enjoy their greedy gus of a CEO failing to make his target. Is that bad?

Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting The New Joy-Con 2 Set?

@wiiwouldliketoplay

While I'm not certified, I'm a color fantatic and was drawn to 8Bitdo's Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller in yellow for Switch 2 (https://a.co/d/i25wlhE). It's not perfect, but it looks good, has a charging dock, shake to wake works (after a firmware upgrade), has lights, and was cheaper than the Pro. I use my Pro more, but giddily use the Ultimate 2 when the Pro's battery dies and the excuse to use arises.

Re: Switch 2 Sales Reportedly Struggled Over The Christmas Period

foursider

Yeah, I don't know what Nintendo were thinking with its launch lineup. I bought it at launch, because it's Nintendo and that's what I do, but I wasn't really excited about it all. Not the games, the console, or the controllers. The games, as in DK, looked fun (and is fun), but wasn't what I wanted or needed as a launch title. And the console and its features? Waaaay too samey and safe. And expensive. Fast forward a half a year later, and not much has changed. Kirby Air Rider and Metroid were never going to be console movers. Hopefully things improve, but the immediate forecast is still lacking a AAA Nintendo title.

I think if they would have at least added Wii-level motion controls, or Wii-like channels for fun, non-gaming stuff, and updated the look of the dock more, that would have set it apart from Switch. GameChat is great, but should not have been the big gimmick. That should have been implemented in Switch 1. And then factoring in the legitimate key card concerns, and micro SD "express" expense and limited storage size and availability... Not a solid ground to start with.

I like my Switch 2, but it's really just Switch 1 with slightly better graphics, at a much higher price, with very few S2 exclusives. I usually encourage people to buy a new Nintendo console when it releases, but with Switch 2, if they have a Switch 1 already, I tell them to wait for the Switch 2 revision in a few years. Switch 2 ain't there yet.

Re: Nintendo Reveals First New Joy-Con 2 Colours For Switch 2

foursider

@obijuankanoobie

That's true, I didn't think of that... Especially for the tightly packed joycons. Maybe the Pro controller, though, as I know the off brand Afterglow controller that's clear and lights up had room to make transparent look cool. But, I agree, even if the impact of the insides isn't as interesting as the early days, it'd still be neater than black.

Re: Nintendo Reveals First New Joy-Con 2 Colours For Switch 2

foursider

Woah... Nintendo so bold, so daring. Look at all that color and fun and personality you're finally adding to the Switch 2. Really compliments the black on black on black on black special edition Pro controller you're also releasing. Can't wait to see the amazing UI themes you'll surely be adding, too. /s
