My main concern is how, being a 2D fast paced sidescroller, it will fare on the Switch 2 screen with the ghosting/blurring as I notice that kind of thing. I may have to go PC for this one.
DKC2 especially is absurdly good even today. And I think I prefer the relative simplicity and streamlined nature of the SNES DKC games over the successors. That's just me though.
I think in this age of people being extremely sensitive online to any sort of criticism of <insert thing they like>, it's worth remembering constructive criticism is actually a good thing and not something you're supposed to get offended by. DF do the technical thing, it's their schtick, they're gonna hyper analyze all the little technical flaws like blocky shadows. And despite all that though, John still looks at the game in non technical ways and even praises it.
I'll probably stick to my trusty old King Kong Pro 2 controller for now. Sure it doesn't wake the Switch 2 up, but to not have to spend another new controller cost I can live with that, plus it also functions with literally any other device that has bluetooth too.
I've been playing EoW and haven't found it too bad, and I'm someone that is very sensitive to inconsistent frames and fluctuations. Although I believe as I've come to the game late, I've benefited from it being patched and had performance improvements so it's probably nowhere as bad as it was at launch.
One hopes maybe they'll patch this one too, if it is bad enough.
Know I'm a bit late to the party, but LoZ: Echoes of Wisdom.
Really, really enjoying it actually. I wasn't sure if I would as, for some reason, don't generally have a lot of staying power with a lot of the 2D style Zelda games compared to the 3D ones. But EoW is quite exceptional.
Feels like Nintendo needs a new methodology for this, cause this ain't it when innocent second hand buyers get stung. There has to be something better than just the comparing of two active game keys.
The righteousness in these threads is always amusing. I've known of cops going home and watching pirated movies. The world is flawed and is what it is.
Surprised some people are dunking on the guy's effort and choice of monetary expendenture.
His efforts have allowed Switch Lite owners to turn the thing into an OLED. Hell if they ever come back in stock I'd be tempted to get one and grab a dirt cheap unloved Switch Lite and do the mod myself.
I honestly haven't used it much, other than a bit of MKW and Yakuza. It's a nice machine and mostly I just admire it sitting in the dock most of the time.
Mostly I wanted one for future Zelda and Metroid games and I figure the console won't get any cheaper anytime soon, so got one day 1.
If it's anything like the Switch 1, from a purely hardware perspective it probably has a fair bit more power than it actually utilizes. As we know, the SW1's Tegra runs quite a bit underclocked for longevity and battery life. Anyone with a CFW Switch knows you can push those clocks up quite a bit for a nice performance boost, at the obvious negative to heat and battery life.
Of course devs can only work with the standard console as it is out of the box. I'd love if Nintendo included a "Turbo" mode or something, but we know that will never happen.
@jsty3105 yeah I've never liked those either. I think digital should be digital, and anything in a physical box should be... physical.
Of course I am aware the irony is with Nintendo we've had it better than the other platforms typically when it comes to physical releases and big N are still at least doing their games on actual cartridges... for now.
@RiasGremory no the constant whining does not need to stop, people have a right to protest, especially when they are consumers pouring a ton of money into the industry.
Ultimately it may well be that the majority don't care enough and the market just keeps moving this way, which is a huge shame IMO, but if passionate people keep beating the drum and there's even a 1% chance it helps influence future directions by the third party devs, it's worth it.
I use a little CRT for my SNES. Sure CRT filters on an emulator is cool and all, but nothing quite beats the look and motion smoothness of the real deal.
It wouldn't be so bad if most games were still physical, but we all know where that's going.
The console might not be technically 'bricked', but Nintendo, no doubt by no coincidence, has made nearly all functional aspects of the console online only. Once banned, it seems the sole online thing that still works is firmware updates. Probably likely just so you can continue updating the console and reduce the chances of it being hacked in future, just to rub salt in the wound and make it more likely to be e-waste.
I'm amazed how low those internal resolutions are, mostly because having played the demo myself I'd have never known.
Really does show what DLSS can do. With DLSS and no doubt some future miracle port type optimizations from devs in the future, I think we will see some impressive efforts on the platform.
@Suketoudara interesting, thanks for going to that trouble, I was genuinely interested. I haven't been watching them for too long but the technical analysis stuff has seemed generally decent. But it sounds like like a lot of bigger channels they make some questionable decisions or leaps for views sometimes (like that built-in advert that was mentioned before in this comments section).
@Dunkin exactly. I can never understand being such a fanboy that one has to vehemently defend the thing we like no matter what. It makes no sense, and leaves the consumer open to abuse by the company that makes the thing if we don't give constructive criticism and demand better.
And yeah everything DF has done that I've seen is fair and reasonable.
@Tryskam I think it's probably something to do with the sunk cost fallacy. It's an expensive console, combine that with the excitement of the thing launching and I'm guessing there's a lot of people who feel the need to defend their 'thing', like they would defend their football team or their child.
I try to be more objective personally. The Switch 2 screen 'looks' decent enough, it will often get the job done for a handheld screen, but there will be times it will fall down - like playing fast side scrolling games like Super Mario World. There's a clear compromise made by Nintendo to cut costs and also keep power consumption down at the same time.
It's not great, but it is what it is. For a lot of the modern 3D games I think it will be OK, but personally for other games where the screen isn't suited I'll be using my OG Switch or my PC.
@Suketoudara it's constructive criticism and if there's room for improvement that will benefit the user, it's a good thing we have the likes of MVG (and he very much enjoys games I can assure you, but he has a lot of experience in the field and does a lot of tech stuff).
The main thing I noticed personally was the stick sensitivity in F-Zero. Although I don't know if that's purely a GameCube emulation thing, I find the sensitivity of the joystick is also really over the top in menus in something like Yakuza 0 (I have to use the D-Pad to navigate properly).
The drums need to keep beating loudly about this. Yes I know some don't like anything to do with outrage or seeming negativity, but if we just lie down and take it whenever big companies make these sorts of changes that are anti-consumer and anti-preservation, it will keep happening and easily.
The servers of course likely won't switch off "in a few years" but it is a matter of when, not if, they do.

Switch 2 screen looks fine enough for most modern stuff.
