Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Metroid Prime 4: Beyond?

eldersnake

9 so far.

I was waiting for this game for ages and didnt exactly temper my expectations, so to be enjoying it this much is great.

I can't understand the kiddies that say it looks like a PS3 game etc, most of the time it looks absolutely stunning and I've found myself just staring out into the biome, wondering around taking screenshots etc. Somehow the HDR is so good it even looks amazing on my QLED TV that has really almost no HDR ability (only 350 nits). I can only imagine how good it looks on a proper HDR, OLED TV.

@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT I agree. And this is coming from someone that at first, didn't like Dread at all. I thought it was probably a decent action platformer in itself, but not a great 'Metroid' game.

I came back to it though and stuck through it, and I'm glad I did, as my opinion completely flipped. One of the very finest Metroid games IMO, and a great game in general.

Re: Exclusive: Bloober Team Is Bringing Layers Of Fear To Switch 2 Next Month

@JohnnyMind I'd say this game is more spooky than scary. I'm not great with games that are outright scary, like being relentlessly chased etc, but this game isn't really that. More environmental puzzles and spooky atmosphere. But if someone just outright isn't into any sort of horror I guess it might not be their jam, but I would say for those that might struggle with most horror games, this one is quite manageable.

EDIT: Although I just realised the one I played was the original from 2016. Not sure how different this one is...

Re: Random: Steam's Brand New Game Console Sure Looks Awfully Familiar

Niche perhaps, but anyone that thinks the market for this is non-existant or pointless, needs to get out of their Nintendo fanboy bubble. There's a lot of people looking forward to this and Valve wouldn't do it if there wasn't a market.

The question for me personally will be pricing and upgradeability. I'm already comfortable both building PCs and running Linux, so whether I would buy one of these or just essentially make one is the thing.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Play NES Games These Days?

eldersnake

Emulated NES games were a massive part of my childhood, all I had at the time was an old clunky beige Pentium 100, 16MB RAM PC which was already way outdated itself, but as a not very wealthy kid I didn't care or know the difference, but even that could handle NES games in DOS powered emulators.

These days, its either NSO or my homebrew 3DS.

Re: Game-Key Cards A "Sales Strategy Decision", Says Resident Evil Requiem Director

I won't get into arguing. Just suffice to say that personally, if a game is GKC, I ain't buying it.

The way things are going, I'll likely just be buying Nintendo's own games (fully physical) and GOG on the PC side of things. They are digital only but you get an offline installer so can make your own physical backup if you so wish. No fancy boxes or anything obviously, but I'm not so much a collector as just someone who likes having the freedom to preserve how I want to.

Re: Team Cherry Explains Hollow Knight: Silksong's "Steep Difficulty"

eldersnake

@FX29 yeah I'm forcing my way through Hollow Knight at the moment, but I'm unsure how far I want to go. I understand the game is meant to get better as it goes, but I'm not feeling the same enjoyment I get from a Metroid game. I think it's the same problem I encounter with Souls games - I can brute force my way through the difficulty with enough determination, but the world just feels kinda depressing and empty, so it doesn't always feel worth it.

Still, I'll give it more of a chance, just feels like a chore at the moment.

Re: Team Cherry Explains Hollow Knight: Silksong's "Steep Difficulty"

@JohnnyMind It's also interesting to me that they chose to just nerf certain areas/enemies (as I understand it, I haven't played the game) rather than just offering a difficulty choice. The former is more likely to inflame some of their difficulty loving fanbase, while the former caters for everyone while still keeping the original game/difficulty. Interesting decision, but maybe it was just easier to code in.

Re: No Switch 2 "Upgrade Path" For Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Planned

eldersnake

@Medic_alert yeah I'll be honest, as someone who doesn't have big portable gaming needs (unless you count the journey to the couch), and if not for Metroid Prime 4, I'm not sure I'd even have my Switch 2 anymore.

Sure Bananza is great, but I probably wouldn't spend $700+ AUD on a console just to play it. At this point it's all about MP4 and I guess any new flagship Zelda games in future.

Most anything else I can play on other platforms.

Re: Nintendo Direct September 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

eldersnake

All I ever wanted was an MP4 release date and I got that at least. For some reason they chose some of the worst looking footage I've seen of the game. It's looked great in everything I've seen before, but this motorcycle open world thing almost looked like it was just slapped in as an after thought and the overall game visual fidelity looked unusually low.

Nintendo being Nintendo I guess. Still have high hopes for the game, cautiously.
