Game key card, dang. Thankfully it is on GOG though, so I could consider the PC version if I decide to get the game. I've been watching a bit of a let's play of the game, and all I can say is the devs must be cat lovers! Which I can appreciate.
@kmtrain83 not too sure sorry, I guess the answer would be no as far as users go, but if devs really wanted the option for their physical cartridge to be "install to system memory" I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for Nintendo to add. Like it was mentioned above, it would be like the other consoles where games are installed from Bluray discs, just from cartridge.
I'd personally prefer that over game key card any day. We'd still get a cart containing actual game data, but installed to the system where I/O performance is best.
Unfortunately, that does make sense. A compromise though, if you could fit the data on the cartridge, is still have a fully physical release that just installs/copies to the system memory.
@Dr_Awkward people have a right to protest things they don't like, especially as good paying consumers. You don't like it, just scroll on by instead of being toxic/flaming.
As for the game, I'm glad it turned out well, though as a GKC I also will pass. I'd consider a discounted digital only purchase, depending on if there's a difference in how the purchase is counted (I.e if I was sure it would be counted differently from a GKC purchase, which I honestly can't remember). Anyway, glad to see another big third party title where they seem to have mostly gotten performance decent!
Was never a game I was interested in, even being a Star Wars fan, much less the fact this would also be a game key card, but nice I guess that the platform has another fairly notable third party game and for those that want some Star Wars action on Nintendo.
@michellelynn0976 I don't really have a horse in this race, but that isn't correct. You buy the game on Steam (PC), you can play it either on PC or Deck, which is a handheld PC essentially.
A shame this isn't on GOG.com like Ragebound was, that's my preferred storefront when buying PC and/or not buying Switch cartridges. Looks like a great game though.
Guess we'll wait for a DF tech review to know precisely how bad it is. Not really that surprising though, it's never been amazingly performant on any platform.
@AussieMcBucket depends for me. If an indie game is digital only, than I can accept it, especially if its on GOG.com because at least you get a DRM-free offline installer to keep. If there's physical I'll generally prefer that of course. Game key cards are absolutely off the table though.
Really depends on the game for me re: 30 vs 60 FPS.
That said, surprisingly, I played through all of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound on the Switch, a game where almost anyone would demand the smoothest highest FPS possible, but I got used to the 30FPS and didn't have any issue with it. Surprised even myself.
Anyway yes, stability first and foremost is important.
@OmnitronVariant that is an interesting point. Suggests maybe FromSoft has struggled with the porting and optimization going from PC x86 architecture to the Switch's ARM architecture. Hopefully there's plenty of room for improvement.
Hollow Knight as while I technically played at least the start of it way back in 2018, I don't think I got very far and it somehow went by the wayside. So it's almost like a first playthrough. Might as well give it a good shot now Silksong is around the corner.
Otherwise more DK: Bananza, not sure how far through I am exactly but I only just got the Zebra Bananza form.
@Solomon_Rambling fair enough, it's each to their own. I've only just started playing it, since Silksong comes out soon, so we'll see how I find it. I generally haven't played much in the way of metroidvanias except for... well, the Metroids.
@roboshort Not the first party Nintendo games, more some of the third party games (not including Cyberpunk) and the ones upcoming like Borderlands that have to omit certain features and lock at 30fps.
I think there's a bit of an adjustment period but should hopefully improve later on when devs get more of a handle on the hardware. As long as they aren't lazy that is.
I think people will be surprised what the Switch 2 can do once you get actually properly optimized and developed games for it down the line.
We're going to have some rough ones for now it seems, again more on optimization by third party devs than anything. Perhaps also the lack of dev kits doesn't help? I don't know what the situation is there, but maybe the reported lack of dev kits doesn't help.
Nice preview, Felix. Hopefully the motion sickness thing won't be too bad for most people; I don't generally experience it pretty much ever, but for just a brief moment or two in DK Bananza I almost kind of did, so I guess with these new and very fast, popping colourful games it can be a potential issue.
Font aside, which does look a bit generic the longer you look at it, I like the box art. Feels nostalgic for some reason, kind of like the GameCube days. Although ironically, the original GC game actually had the stylized logo.
Is it weird based on those screenshot comparisons I think I prefer the art "style" of the Switch 1 version? Feels a bit closer to the show's graphic style or something
I've been so all in on MP4 that I hadn't paid much attention about this one, but now it's obviously gonna be announced, hype meter is climbing fast. Always had a real soft spot for Kirby.
I think the opposition to game key cards is actually GREATER than some are making out.
Is it still dwarfed by the amount of average consumers and mums buying games for their kids etc that either don't give a crap or know any better? Sure.
I think we're long past the point of docks bricking Switches.
I have a similar one to this one, works fine, and while I wouldn't replace the official dock with it next to my TV, for traveling I could see it being really handy.
@Suketoudara one of the most on point posts I've seen recently. Yeah Big N are making some seemingly baffling decisions. Maybe it is some weird 4D chess where they want to drive engagement on outrage, but its an interesting strategy when it kind of at times makes them look incompetent. Still, if they make more money they'll be happy...
It's a banger, I can confidently say after putting some hours into this weekend.
Regarding how even a 2D title can perform rough on the Switch, it is using the Unity engine, which I think unless you really optimize it well can be heavier than the visuals would suggest. I could be wrong though.
I'll be bouncing between LoZ: Echoes of Wisdom and probably (finally) finishing it, only have a couple of the temples left I think, playing more of Yakuza 0, then trying out Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound as well.
@Yosher That's pretty much where I'm at. The Switch 2 is just gonna be a first party title machine for me.
And even if I'm playing "handheld" I usually do that at home on the couch anyway, where I have the option to Sunshine/Moonlight stream any game from my more powerful gaming PC to any device in the house, whether it be my phone, laptop, HTPC, or my CFW OG Switch, so third party titles have reasonably little use for me, aside from the very rare occasions I might take the Switch 2 out somewhere traveling.
@Solid_Python you could have probably worded that in a nicer, less flammable way. These days we generally all agree even people are a part of a minority, they still matter and should be respected.
That said, I do agree digital should be cheaper than physical, it kinda just makes sense, and I'd pay a few extra dollars for the proper physical, as long as publishers don't be a-holes and make the difference crazy high for no reason.
@HalBailman Unfortunately I'm overly sensitive to it so I do notice it. I found it distracting in DK Tropical Freeze for example.
But for sure, docking removes the problem in this case, but if there were still FPS compromises I'd still maybe go the PC version. Have to wait and see on that, I find it hard to believe this game wouldn't run solid 60fps on Switch 2.

Re: Poll: Three Months In, How Would You Rate Switch 2's Library So Far?
It's okay. Getting there, slowly but surely. My opinion will likely be even more complimentary when we finally get Metroid Prime 4!

Re: Rumour: Resident Evil Requiem Could Be Heading To The Switch 2
Probably not the version I'd get (I'd rather it running in full glory on my PC on the living room TV) but that would be awesome for many if so!
