Most Switch users (not the hardcore ones that crawl at Internet forums) are casuals. They wont give $450 just to play Mario Kart in 1440p/upscaled 4k. Nintendo after Gamecube (biggest failure, although it wasn't below competition) never released a console without a gimmick. Lets wait and see
When I first installed Angry Birds on my iPhone 3GS I was really impressed cause it was the first game made for touch controls in mind that implemented them so well. It still generates more profit than Sonic?
Since track and field the industry is still trying to find a better formula for summer games. It's been so long and people lost hope. Hell I had even more fun with winter games back in the day. Mario & Sonic was a pretty bad use of license and franchise. But still better than nothing at all I guess.
Does anyone really believe that Nintendo will offer free (or $10) upgrade path for all games with higher 60fps/1440p upgrade paths for all current games on Switch 2 like Sony and Microsoft offer? yeah me neither
if I understood it well he didn't acquired Tengen he just registered the name cause the trademark had expired. This doesn't gives him any licence to use the work of a dead brand but I don't think that anybody cares at this point
Poor Queen Elizabeth she never had the chance to play Wii Sports with her grandchildren on that lovely golden Wii cause of that "unsolicited gifts" policy.
I think Switch had way too many Pokemon games, and there's a franchise fatigue. Same with Super Mario, Zelda and Splatoon. Better to save these system sellers for Switch 2 and bring something exciting for the holiday season.
So Nintendo's paid service is οffering a "free" game trial of a 21 year old game! On the other hand Sony's lowest paid tier is offering EA Sports FC 2024 full game (not a trial) for free. I find Nintendo's offering lacking
What's interesting here is that after 3 1/2 years, top game sells near as much PS4 copies as PS5 copies. And people ask why we still get cross-platform games. I don' t see Switch 2 coming at 2024
I found the last DQ quite dated so I very much welcome a darker and more mature tone (but c'mon how dark can DQ really be?). Yes FF outside of the MMORPG is losing momentum and DQ as well, they will need to innovate again.
The first Prince of Persia was surely iconic. At the time my PC couldn't run it but I played it few years later. Way too hard for me. I played more The sands of time that was also innovative in many ways, animations and running on the walls felt almost like a crouching tiger, hidden dragon game.
Great idea, like Zune, Windows RT, Wndows Phone, what can go wrong? I think they will settle with a PS Portal style peripheral, a mini Series S is not a bad idea but dunno how appealing it will be if it can't play PC games
"The prefectural police has since confirmed that the officer's pay will be deducted in line with the amount of time spent playing the Switch." This must be a joke, right? I mean they can't have a way of knowing how much of this play time was while at work duty. Also it's the first time I heard there's some wage deduction cause of gaming.
Its sad. Final Fantasy XIII sold over one million units on its first day of sale in Japan. Its not only that the franchise is in decline. I think first week sales reflects the franchise fatigue after all these disappointments. I mean FF13 sold like crazy in first week mostly using momentum and anticipation of excellent FF12. So low numbers reflect more the previous games shortcoming than FF7 Rebirth potential.
I feel conflicted about Atlus, on one hand they are my favorite Japanese publisher, and on the other hand they are greedy as hell and offer no upgrade path. They even asked full price for Person 5 Royal 60 fps upgrade on PS5 even if you bought the game before. And it's a turned based game with visual novel elements, not a game that 60 fps over 30 make any huge difference.
Playstation's Portal 8 inch 1080p LCD panel is great. Switch 2 could use a 1080p panel even if more games still run at 720p. Joycons are part of the Switch appeal though, don't think that Nintendo will not try a new gimmick as selling point.
PS Vita was gimmick-free with OLED panel and still a major flop.
Persona 3 reloaded on PS Portal is like the first time i played P3P on PSP, such a great experience. I will say again competition is a good thing, hope Nintendo will release the new system this year
@bones according to reports FF7 Rebirth will require 150 GB of storage space to install
Tekken is a Japanese franchise, always surprises me how poorly its received there...It's big in west. I mean even Pokken tournament only sold like 300k in Japan
Switch was a huge upgrade from 240p of 3DS. Now most casual gamers wont pay $400 for 60 FPS games while they are still having fun with Switch 1. I'm expecting another gimmick from Nintendo as selling point.
I wouldn't care if there was no cartridges at all on Switch 2, but I know I'm the minority here and that wouldn't sell well even now in Japan (they still remember PSPgo fiasco)
Its a novelty item. It's for people that want to show off a $400 backpack and can afford it. Actually it doesn't look half bad. I would pay $40 for it. People are willing to pay $500 for some of the sleeker vintage Sony Cassette Walkmans cause they look cool. Its not about functionality
Golden Sun may be the best looking GBA game, I was really impressed by it back in the day. It still looks much better in a modded GBA with IPSv2 than these screenshots. Wonder how hard would be to just remaster it.
An OLED Switch 2 with NVMe SSD will cost over $600, I would be fine with it but I don't think Nintendo will go that direction. We already have a pretty good estimate about the specs (check Digital Foundry) so main questions are about compatibility and how to make a smooth transition
Switch may be underpowered but so -and much more so- was Gameboy, and it had a 14 years lifespan. If sales aren't slowing down -not much anyway- why not wait till the end of 2025 to introduce Switch 2? Still hope for a release this year
