Re: Indie Shmup Astebreed Announced For Nintendo Switch

diablo2

@Prizm While i appreciate the occasional re-release and port, I do agree this has gotten out of hand.

And sadly, i believe the "damage" is irreversible at this point, as most developers are highly attracted to this tactic as opposed to making new titles for the console. The concept has proven popular, so every developer is jumping in now.

I'm sure this will be the norm for years to come, until Nintendo's next console. Shame.

P.S. Hey, NintendoLife.....maybe you guys should write an opinion piece about this. Explain the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Re: Ubisoft Officially Reveals Sports Party Exclusively For Switch, Available 30th October

diablo2

@fco Unfortunately, those franchises were released on a poor-selling console (Wii U) and/or a console aimed at casuals (Wii).

Now that we finally have a good-selling console that's also not entirely for casuals, Ubisoft mistakenly believes Nintendo gamers don't want those games based on past results (and still thinks we are 90% casuals).

I know, i know, company execs really don't use their heads whatsoever.

Re: Guide: Everything Announced In Yesterday's Nintendo Direct

@Cobalt
You're not entirely wrong......
I'm personally happy about some of these ports, but let's face it: Nobody was expecting this console to be primarily a port machine with some new games on the side (it should be the complete opposite instead).

And sadly, I can already see more and more developers jumping on the bandwagon. Don't be surprised later on when you see Torchlight, Silent Hill Collection, No More Heroes 1 + 2, Far Cry 3, and many more on the Switch. The list will go on and on, with the occasional new game in between.

I'll always love the Switch, but it will (probably) be a console led by developers who just couldn't be bothered much.

Re: ESRB Ratings Reveal That Ubisoft Is Bringing Three Party Games To Nintendo Switch

diablo2

The notion that Nintendo players are mostly into party / casual games is such a myth, in my opinion. The Wii popularized that crap, but it only happened because the console itself was aimed at casuals. Sadly, most developers have remained thinking this way.

The Switch has slowly proven that we crave more hardcore games , with many companies reporting healthy sales since the console's launch.

Re: Japan Retailer Reveals Its Minecraft Sales On Switch Rapidly Outsold Wii U Version

diablo2

On a sales-related note, I occasionally think about all the trash Oddworld developer (Lorne Lanning) talked about Nintendo consoles.

The guy would go on and on saying that only first party games sell well, and even ditched the Switch as a result.

He was basing his words on the Wii (which was marketed toward casuals who don't normally spend $60 on games), and Wii U (which was never popular to begin with).

Not a very smart man, as you can see. Well, now all these sales are pointing the middle finger right at him.

Re: Retro-Style Shmup FullBlast Is Making A Comeback On Switch Next Month

diablo2

@rjejr Yeah, def. You'll eventually notice the game is on the generic side (especially by the non-varying music).

But in the end, it's still a fun experience for what it is. I tend to enjoy Shmups of all shapes and sizes. My obsession started after finding a few on NES and SNES, as well as an old helicopter game on Atari.

Now let's hope the Switch version feels a tad more robust, but it's mostly okay-ish for what it is.

Re: Retro-Style Shmup FullBlast Is Making A Comeback On Switch Next Month

diablo2

@rjejr Definitely not bad for its price, but it just feels very lackluster:

The music never changes

Weapon upgrades are hardly exciting

You don't get bonus points after defeating a boss, so the player feels very unrewarded

So the overall feeling here is "generic game." Hopefully the developer will improve upon these things.

Re: Retro-Style Shmup FullBlast Is Making A Comeback On Switch Next Month

diablo2

I know this is not a Steam-based community, but for those interested, it's only $1 on Steam right now. I couldn't help but grab it

https://store.steampowered.com/app/429220/FullBlast/

Edit: Initial impressions...
Not too bad, but the game needs to drop weapon upgrades a bit more often, and improve on their variety. Most weapons felt very samey (from one shot, to two shots, to three shots, etc).

Also, you don't get bonus points after winning a boss battle, so the player feels largely unrewarded for such effort.

All in all, it's not bad for the price (lackluster features for a lackluster price).

Re: Fishing Game From Wii Generation Resurfaces On The Nintendo Switch

diablo2

Im usually a bit anti-port (due to the heavy amount we've been getting since the console's launch).

But when it comes to Wii games, a lot of them were severely underrated and sold terribly. So I hope they get a second chance to shine on this newest console.

Some examples include Mad World, Red Steel 2, The Conduit, Marble Saga (Kororinpa) and so many others....

The Wii was full of hidden gems. but sadly a lot of people only remember the console for its shovelware reputation.

Re: Tomb Raider Won’t Be Making The Switch Anytime Soon, According To Eidos Montreal

diablo2

I rather not even see it on Switch at this point. Im quite frankly getting tired of so many games arriving late.

I fear sales would be relatively low because many of us would have already played it elsewhere. Not too low, but relatively low...

This only feeds the false notion that "Nintendo gamers are not hardcore enough," when in reality it just means we played the game already.

Just my opinion, anyway.

Re: Ubisoft Has Halted Development Of Steep On Nintendo Switch

diablo2

@zool Waverace would be such an amazing $39 digital download. Just a quick, short, quality game like the N64 version. Something to beat in a single weekend and play occasionally with friends.

Hopefully Nintendo will surprise us with it, because they have already "used up" many of their main franchises (or are in the process of releasing them next year). So they kind of need more stuff for the year 2020 and beyond.

Re: Panic Button Dreams Of Porting Horizon Zero Dawn To Nintendo Switch

diablo2

@EightBitMan I have never really owned a Sony console, but the PS4 has an admirable library to say the least. Hell, even the new Spider-Man game looks tempting (and im not a huge comics fan). Not to mention a few "remasters" from the PS3 era as well.

I might end up grabbing one next year. So yes, credit where credit is due

Re: Bandai Namco Wants To Release More Of Its Games On The Nintendo Switch

diablo2

Gotta admit, portability is quite influential. I've had the opportunity to buy certain games on Steam for a lower price, but i've opted for the Switch version instead. Why? Simply because i'd like to play when I travel out of state every now and then.

Now bring Ridge Racer! The Switch is starving for a proper / traditional racing game or two.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct Livestream Coming This Wednesday

diablo2

They pulled the same crap with Zelda prior to release; they beat that horse to death.

How about you guys do a Direct showing the online service a bit more, along with any new feature? These people sure know how to make something overstay its welcome.

I hope they dont spend the whole livestream reading a changelog again. "This character looks a bit different now! And look, this character makes two different grunts when you hit him!" That was embarrassing.

Re: The Switch Accounted For 52% Of Sonic Mania Plus' Launch Week Sales

diablo2

@Stocksy I believe you're right. I dont think the Nintendo audience has been given a proper chance to prove themselves as 'hardcore' or 'mature' gamers. Publishers just kind of assume we want family-oriented games by default.

Many mature games on the Wii didn't sell: Well, Nintendo was heavily catering to a non-gaming and casual audience. Of course they weren't going to sell very well.

Many mature games on the Wii U didn't sell: The Wii U's install base wasn't very big.

Some speculate that games like Doom didn't sell very well on Switch: Well, if publishers stopped throwing us ports, maybe more people would buy these type of games. Lots of gamers had already played games like Doom on other systems.

So, devs and publishers, can you actually give us a better chance without being so persuaded by past / flawed consoles and old ports?

.....but of course, i could be wrong. Just my opinion.
