@kirbygirl Im referring specifically to the Nintendo Switch ecosystem. But anyway, everyone's got an opinion. Mine is: Let's just see how this latest bad decision turns out.
@kirbygirl Don't be so narrow minded. Too many options of anything could potentially overwhelm, even if we're referring to mere games. No, it doesn't apply to everyone, but the potential to overwhelm is very much there.
Nintendo absolutely has more control than Jools Watsham believes.
The biggest issue here, in my opinion, is overwhelming audiences with too much too fast. It also hurts developers in a big way.
Here's a realistic scenario that i could see happening:
Game #1 came out, as well as game #2 and #3.
I want game #1 more than the rest, so i decide to get the remainder at a later date instead.
Next week, another decent game is released. Multiply this times several more weeks.
As time passes, i have forgotten about (or lost interest) in those initial games #2 and #3 from above, because my attention is now on those newer gems to admire.
In essence, i see developers making less money from this, all while gamers feel increasingly overwhelmed.
Thanks, Nintendo. Yet another brilliant decision by your staff of mindless monkeys.
At the end of the day, it's their console. It's their domain. Of course they can find ways to limit the quantity.
@Supadav03 Whenever people say such things, i personally feel they're looking at things from a very narrow or 'black and white' perspective.
Simply put, the experience is a bit different than playing on mobile. It's on a dedicated console with physical controls readily attached to it, on a slightly bigger screen. Not to mention you won't be bothered with little microtransaction messages or "buy this!" icons.
Are those differences worth a price? Thats entirely subjective (it depends on the person). But at least i wanted to point out that the decision is not as black and white as simply saying, "it's free on mobile, so i'lll just get it free by default." It's just not that simple.
Somewhat similar example: I would rather play Super Mario 3 on a NES/SNES rather than a GBA, even if the GBA version was hypothetically free and the others cost $10. It's all very subjective, but there are certainly differences from one consumer to another.
I have played it on PC and its an amazing game. And dare i say it: It controls a bit better than Megaman. The movements and fluidity is solid. Gameplay and graphics are quite nice, too.
I recommend it to any old Megaman fan, especially if you played the ones on SNES.
@brunojenso The movements are a bit "stiff" or too arcadey, for lack of a better word. There's a certain lack of "float" when you go sideways or down. They move a bit fast and stiff-like while maneuvering.
Otherwise, the game looks pretty fun. I hope they fix the above issues.
@genericsimon The funniest part is knowing just how picky some people are. A game like this comes out every week, but people tend to nit pick about which one to complain about. Some get a pass, and some don't.
People: Graphics are just a visual style - nothing more and nothing less. Just because it's 2018 it doesn't mean that games HAVE to look a certain way. Again, it's just a style.... similar to pixelated titles. So relax and enjoy the darn game. Or don't.
On a somewhat unrelated note, i wish sales numbers were more accessible when it comes to video games. Everyone is always morbidly curious about these figures, but they're hardly ever known or disclosed.
I'd love to see somewhat accurate figures for the likes of Doom, and now for this game, etc. Oh well.
Google has never been great at marketing many of their stuff, which i find ironic considering all their massive resources. This, in my opinion, will be just another product that hardly anyone will notice.
@AlternateButtons I don't know why he always thinks he's the ONLY one that's humanly capable of making these games.
Is he currently the most talented person handling these projects? Absolutely. But Nintendo can always train a new set of VERY talented developers to carry on his work.
I don't know why he always wants to sound so dramatic about the franchise. I admire his work, but the torch doesn't need to die with him, so he should stop acting like it.
Now......if the series is growing old and stale, then that's another matter entirely. In that case, end it with grace on a high note.
That's what happens when Nintendo spends the time highlighting minuscule details.
"Oh, look! The Wii Fit trainer looks a bit different! This was a request from the devs, and we want the general audience to care about this useless fact."
"Oh, look! This weapon sounds a bit different than the other one. And this voice-over as well. Be impressed!"
Then they end it with Ridley as the "big surprise." Yet another character.
This is a chicken or the egg kind of problem. The best way to grow a certain audience on a console is to bring games to said audience. But how can that be accomplished if companies refuse to bring such games in the first place?
Also, i think there are waaaay more hardcore players on Nintendo consoles than companies tend to believe. It's only a matter of giving us a better chance.
Release a game, break even. Release another game, profit a little bit. Release yet another game, profit higher than before.
I know im simplifying things and generalizing a bit much, but I believe this is probably the best way in the long run.
I could actually see a lot of people hooked on building things and the constant management aspect. An addiction similar to Stardew Valley, thanks to the "scalability" of the game.
Feedback: A complementary YouTube trailer would enhance every review, especially if it shows gameplay footage. This way curious players won't have to go look it up.
Feedback to self: Stop providing feedback, diablo2. Nintendolife never really listens.
Maybe im spoiled, but the game looks a bit slow by default (some Mario Kart titles tend to be this way also). The only REAL rush i get is with the random speed-bump items you pick up.
But i guess thats exactly why the developers slow it down to begin with; to provide more benefit to those items. Either way, i'll think about it... it DOES look pretty fun nonetheless.
@NewAdvent I think EA had an 'Aha!' moment when they put FIFA 18 on sale and realized people were buying it a lot more.
Perhaps people weren't willing to pay $60 for a version that lacked certain features (compared to the other systems). So, maybe these lower prices really did the trick.
@OorWullie Ah, thats good to know. Also if im not mistaken, many of these sales charts only take one medium into consideration (either physical sales or digital sales, but usually not both). So let's hope all third-parties have done well. Even FIFA.
@Zuljaras Unfortunately, we have to accept that Nintendo consoles will always have to be accompanied by another system (PC/Xbox/PS4) in order to play the more hardcore titles.
I couldn't help but feel sad by the lack of Black Ops. I never cared for those games, but you get my point. Nintendo consoles are just known for being overlooked when it comes to many games (mostly due to the consoles being difficult / underpowered / unconventional), and thats a sad reality.
I love my Nintendo consoles, but they will always suffer this fate.
The question is: How well have Skyrim and Doom sold on Switch? I never really saw them on any 'top sales' charts for maybe more than a week (my memory fails me; correct me if im wrong).
If these guys aren't happy with those games' performance, don't expect Fallout to make the cut.
A lot of people have complained about "floaty" controls where the main character feels like he's under water while falling. I wonder if this was improved upon....
Good game. It's just disappointing that the developers never bothered to let us stretch the screen by removing those annoying frames on the side .... even just a little bit. Nor did they bother to improve the resolution, if that's supposedly their concern.
I'm happy for Nintendo, but it also saddens me that i RARELY EVER get to see a third-party game on these charts....
I truly hope that third-party developers have experienced a decent profit and remain encouraged with Nintendo consoles. Im only referring to the decent / well-developed third-parties, of course.

The series producer is clearly naive and short-sighted if he's basing his decision on a failed console......
Re: Review: Octopath Traveler (Switch)
@MagnaRoader Sadly, there's an unwritten rule that 10/10 is only reserved for Mario and Zelda games.
And believe me, BoTW is NOT a 10/10 game. But it's a Nintendo game and it's a highly respected franchise, so of course it gets a pass :/
Sigh....

Well deserved, Nintendo. Now you're paying the price.
