The names Bud Spencer and Terence Hill probably won't mean a great deal to most English-speaking movie fans, but in Italy, these two guys tore up the silver screen with a range of movies from the late '70s and early '80s, including Pari edispari, Chi trova un amico trova un tesoro and Double Trouble.
Spencer and Hill (real names: Carlo Pedersoli and Mario Girotti) were famous for their fight scenes, so it's only fitting that they've got their own side-scrolling beat 'em up.

Bud Spencer & Terence Hill - Slaps and Beans arrived on Steam in 2017, where it has received quite a warm reception. It's just been released on consoles, and that includes the Switch.
The game includes pixel art graphics, co-op multiplayer, mini-games and - perhaps most importantly of all - "Bud Spencer & Terence Hill style fighting system". It's also playable in English, Italian, German, Hungarian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Danish, Czech, Russian, Chinese and Japanese.
You can download the game for $19,99 / €19.99 / £15.49. Don't forget your beans (and slaps).

Is this the greatest arcade brawler currently available on the Nintendo Switch?

Yes. Yes it is.
Lol, 1:22 actually made me laugh as the dude charged to the right side of the screen. I'll keep an eye on this one.
Needless to say I'm a huge fan of the duo, and the game is a good mashup of some of their most succesful movies (Lo chiamavano Trinita', Altrimenti ci arrabbiamo and others). Pure fun
They were (and are) incredibly popular here in Hungary as well.
I haven't REALLY seen any of their films, and beat 'em ups are one of my least favorite games, but it's very nice that it's also playable in Hungarian.
I’ve never heard of this franchise, but now I’m very curious! And now that jaunty tune is stuck in my head.
@MagicEmperor Let me help you with that.
Pure gold!
When I first saw the video thumbnail I thought "Charlie Sheen & David Hasselhoff?? Then I kept reading. This actually looks fun and funny, though I have no idea who these guys are. I think we were busy laughing at Cheech & Chong around the same time in America. Now THAT'S a beatmup I'd love to play
I would still play this with my gamer partner for the hilarity of it all regardless.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Seriously?! Never thought I’d see something like this! 😂
@Damo sorry for being picky but it’s Pari E Dispari (Even And Odd); I understand where it comes from as I don’t expect you to know Italian 😄
Never heard of these two but the game looks promising, Not for $20 though, given all the excellent NEO GEO brawlers available for $8.
My Name is Nobody
is like the greatest Western ever made
While we're on the subject of my childhood (grew up in Germany), whatever happened to Saber Rider and the Star Sherrifs for 3ds?
@Shiryu Much obliged!
Looks so awesome! But it's a lot money for a brawler. 8€ would be nice.
"The names Bud Spencer and Terence Hill probably won't mean a great deal to most English-speaking movie fans"
Eh... well, I've seen all their movies in English, and they were VERY well known, back then. Just saying.
For people who are curious:
Their movies are a mix between action and slapstick, and they made both Westerns and more modern-themed movies, but the action/slapstick theme was common throughout. The Westerns were also known as "Spaghetti Westerns", due to their Italian origins.
@Agent721 They made quite a lot of movies. The
"Two Fists"Trinity series is definitely worth a look if you like having a laugh and want to see over the top fighting action.EDIT:
Other enjoyable movies they made, provided you like the genre, are Two Missionaries, Double Trouble, Crime Busters, Miami Supercops, Double Trouble and Odds and Evens.
@DASchenk that's also an entertaining movie, indeed. But of course, it isn't a Spencer AND Hill movie...
@Tsurii I have worked for a while in Germany, and of course watched TV there and been to some movies, but I never liked the German dubs. In general, I prefer the actual voices of the actors and actresses, and in the case of Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill, I was already used to the English/American dubs, which also seem the most natural to me, because a lot of their movies also feature American/English actors.
@ThanosReXXX
Thanks for the tip!
@Agent721 You're welcome.
This looks terrific. My dad was a huge fan, so its a bit of a blast from the past for me too.
Those movies were extremely popular in all German-speaking countries as well. So cool that someone made this.
If it had proper graphics I'd instantly buy it, but not this pixelated junk.
I remember growing up renting their movies on summer breaks, can't wait to see a review of this game!
@shani
@Shiryu My point was that the graphics are outdated and scare off potential buyers like me, therefore you've missed the point.
@shani well no not really, again you missed the point, if you don't like it then it's not for you. These are old characters from the 70's and 80' and to the people who watched and loved them the graphics are spot on. It was done on purpose so using the term outdated isn't quite correct
@vitelus Wrong again. I watched and loved the movies as a kid, but the graphics are far from spot on.
If they were spot on they'd be photorealistic. They would actually look like the movies did.
Maybe you haven't seen the movies, but they were not animated and didn't feature a pixel-art style. They were live-action movies.
So turning these beloved movies into ugly pixel-art is a disgrace.
Indepent from this subject, pixelated graphics like these are outdated by definition, no matter the so-called 'artstyle'.
cant make everyone happy
I really liked Bud Spencer when I was a kid. His movies were always on TV in the afternoon in Brazil and were really fun(ny). I have to admit I'm quite shocked to see Spencer and hill in a game o.O But I liked the idea!
@Shiryu
Even my kids (1 and 3) know this one - best movie out of all of them. Both are very popular in Germany as well. I have been watching their movies since I was a kid. Great plain funny movies.
@NintendoPete Very popluar in Portugal as well. This is not only a terrific tribute, but one heck of a great arcade game to boot.
The game, I've heard from a hardcore Bud & Terrence fan is great (he played the PC version).
I myself held off getting it, waiting an eventual Switch release and here it is! However, the price is not 15.49 GBP, but 17.99 GBP (or at least was yesterday)
Will pick it up for sure, probably next week! It looks gorgeous and like a fitting tribute to the two friends!
@Shani:
I can only 100% agree with what Vitelus says: This game is just not for you. And that's all to it. You ain't no "potential buyer"!
In fact you're comments remind me strongly of the nauseating mindset of the regime Germany during the Third Reich, which they called "Entartete Kunst" (which translates as "degenerated Art").
They only loved the pure, photo-realistic Art, and condemned other art-styles like Impressionism, Expressionism and whatever as not meant for human consumption before it was being so ugly and not trying to picture reality in any way.
Your quotes clearly show that you got exactly the same mindset!
And that exactly means only one thing: that this game just is not for you! Nothing more. Nothing less.
So please: just don't buy it and don't leave crap comments that reminds everyone somehow about one of the darkest periods of European history.
@Shiryu It most certainly is. Just a shame that some people seem to miss the point that the graphics ARE appropriate, seeing as we didn't have shiny, purdy and photo-realistic graphics in the 70's and 80's, so this advanced arcade pixel art style fits the source material just perfectly.
No discussion possible.
When I was young I watched the movies with my dad, now I watch them with my kids. They are incredible popular in the German speaking countries as in other parts as well, I was also a Backer for this game and I'm very happy to see it on Switch now. I love every pixel of it: the graphics, the original soundtracks, the legendary comments of the two - this game is a dream coming true.
@Andy3004 Wow, you just discredited yourself with your intolerant and narrowminded point of view.
That unnecessary Nazi comparison alone would've been enough to achieve that but the fact that you have no clue what you're talking about makes it even worse.
a) I just stated a technical fact which had nothing to do with artistic preferences. Sprites/pixelated graphics are a standard of the last century, which were outdated by more detailed graphics which often but not always come in 3D.
b) The fact that many indie titles still use these graphics because they're easier to produce and because many retro-loving gamers like them doesn't change anything about that technical fact. Even if all games used that style it would still be outdated.
c) Just because I personally dislike this pixel art style you automatically assume I only like the photorealistic art style and therefore compare me to the Nazis? How narrowminded are you? Are you even aware that there are lots of other art styles - like the cartoonish artstyle that many Nintendo games feature - and that I might prefer those to the photorealistic one?
d) As I love the Bud Spencer & Terrence Hill movies, you couldn't be more wrong. Any game that is related to those characters might be interesting for me.
Comparing me to the Nazis is rich coming from someone who apparently only thinks in black-and-white stereotypes and automatically makes nonsense biased assumptions about people.
So please: don't leave crap comments that remind everyone about one of the darkest periods of European history.
@ThanosReXXX This is like the complete opposite of Raging Justice.
Swede here. Very famous duo. Some of their westerns are really amazing, such as My Name Is Nobody, and They Call Me Trinity.
As for the game. I've looked over it before. It's probably not for me. I hope it does well either way though!
they are very famous in all of europe i suppose. legends you could say
Looks like fun. But not $25 fun (like it is now in Canada). It's $22 on Steam. Again, this make it look like you're not getting a good deal by buying it on Switch. Granted, it's only a $3 difference, but still, having both a PC and a Switch, this, AGAIN, makes it hard for me to justify spending money on Switch games.
Although, for a change, it is friggin' $27 on the PS4, which makes the Switch not the worst platform out there in terms of game pricing.
You english-people don't know Bud Spencer and Terence Hill???!!! ARE U FREAKING CRAZY??????!!!!!!!! OH, THE RAGE!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Regarding the game: Looks fun, maybe I'll get it.😆
@shani
You can repeat and repeat and repeat the same crap over and over again and wrap it up in any way you like. You just keep repeating yourself and only emblazon what you originally said with more and more and more useless words and bells and whistles.
Over the years I've grown sick trying to discuss with the ilk of fundamentalists like you and I know perfectly well that folks like you live only in their own micro-cosmos where they live supreme and only their thoughts are the only accepted order.
For all heck: if you dislike this game, then write an eMail or a Tweet or even a traditional letter to the producers of the game, and tell THEM how they should have done better. Or if you really have the resources and feel competent, then make a better game yourself. Even that can be done. But don't sprout out your personal, childish, fascist displeasure that the game didn't meet your own personal tastes into some random forum.
They were really famous were I live (Switzerland and Greece).
Is hard believe someone really did an official game of they. But a lot of people will like it, for sure. Their movies were really cool.
@Shiryu
your best comment of all time, the comment number 23
I love These 2 characters their movies and this game is amazing!
I'm pretty sure a lot of European o grew up in the 80s must have heard of them..so glad they made such a great tribute game to it
The game looks fantastic. Bud and Terrance look really familiar, but I don’t have any specific memories of watching their movies. I watched all manner of westerns with my dad in the 80’s, so we probably came across them. From the clips I’ve watched, the humor is right up my alley.
@Andy3004 Dude, come on. Somebody doesn't like retro graphics, so your first response is to call them a Nazi? Seriously uncool. I happen to disagree with shani on this issue, but your response is totally uncalled for.
Just FYI, these guys were popular all over the world and were actually pretty well known in the US at one point.
Never cared for them at all, personally.
Loved their movies as a kid. There was a time in Mexico, tv channel broadcast a bunch of their movies saturday afternoon. My favorites were "dos contra rio" y "juntos son dinamita".
Bought this yesterday, but have yet to try it with Mega Man X filling my time last night. Looks like a lot of fun though... Who was it that posted about it under a totally unrelated article a couple of months ago?
@Shiryu which movie is that from?
@Lone_Beagle https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069697/
@Andy3004 Wow, rarely have I seen someone write a post that perfectly describes their own behaviour.
Think about what you've written and what you're doing.
You're effectively saying that anyone who has a different opinion than youshould shut up and has no freedom of speech.
It doesn't get more fundamentalist and intolerant than that, so you're the one stuck in your own microcosmos, not seeing the world around yourself.
Your last paragraph doesn't even make sense in this context. And it's not a random forum - it's not even the NL forum but a comment section - it's THE gaming site I visit daily and feel home at.
@Shiryu thank you! I had never heard of them until Bud Spenser died, when I read his obituary, I thought, "Those are the kind of movies I love!" I started watching their Westerns, I didn't know where to begin with their more modern stuff.
And look! It is free on Amazon Prime! I'm gonna start popping some popcorn!
@Lone_Beagle Enjoy xD
