Re: Kid Icarus And StarTropics Join The Switch Online NES Library This Month

@biglittlejake Nintendo used to focus both on hardware and innovation (for the most part, at least).

A lot of hardcore Nintendo fans will say that hardware performance doesn't matter at all, citing the GameCube as an example (since it was more powerful than the PS2, but still sold much less). But they conveniently fail to acknowledge that Sony had a lot of support thanks to the PS1 era, it had plenty of storage capabilities, and the PS2 could also play DVDs (which was a huge deal at the time).

But what did the GameCube have? It had mini discs that could barely hold any game storage and not much else. All things considered, of course the Cube was clearly overshadowed by the PS2's overall features — so using the GameCube to "prove" that graphics/storage doesn't matter at all is just very flawed, and thats what hardcore Nintendo fans need to understand.

Something similar happened with the N64: Amazing graphics, but lackluster storage (which led Squaresoft to develop Final Fantasy on PS1, and many others to do the same). The N64 marked the beginning of a gradual shift for the worse.

The point is this: We need both good hardware and innovation, as opposed to just one or the other. Sadly, Nintendo doesn't seem to understand that whatsoever.

There are still countless third-party games NOT arriving on Switch, and hardware + storage are a huge reason for that (let's be real). And for that reason, one day I will likely have to buy another console (or a powerful PC) just to play many of those games, only because Nintendo keeps offering mediocre hardware that isn't able to handle much. See the problem here?

Hopefully Nintendo will abandon this flawed culture, which is surely making them money but it's also hurting other important areas as a whole.

I have tried to like that channel several times in the past, but there's just something about the delivery that makes me 'tune out' and drift away.

Maybe they talk too fast, or maybe the transitions from one fact to another are too close together. Like, sometimes they would introduce a new fact and i'd still think they're talking about the previous one, etc.

It's a great channel in general, i just wish it were my type.

Re: Activision Blizzard Lays Off Hundreds Despite "Record Year", A Far Cry From Nintendo's Caring Approach

diablo2

This happens because investors are eager to make INSANE returns — like, unrealistic returns each year.....

So if a company doesn't deliver the moon, investors are immediately disappointed and start jumping ship. But instead of doing what Satoru did in 2014, most company execs won't even consider taking a cut — even if their income is still insanely healthy after said cut.

After all, why make $1 million per year when one can make $1.3 million instead? That's the exec mentality, and it's sickening. Everyone is at fault here, from investors to company execs.

Re: id Software And Bethesda Still “Investigating” If Rage 2 Would Be Possible On Switch

diablo2

@emhardesty And this is part of the ongoing issue with Nintendo consoles: "It's always something." Either performance-related or storage-related.

For once i'd love for Nintendo to keep innovating, but not sacrifice so darn much in the process. I still remember the lack of storage on GameCube, which surely was a pain. These days we're dealing with storage AND performance issues as well.

Re: Smartphone First-Person Shooter Modern Combat Blackout Is Firing Onto Nintendo Switch

diablo2

@BigSnikkel But consider this:
-Wii was highly targeted at a casual demographic. Even seniors were buying the console like crazy

-Wii U didn't sell much at all

The Switch seems to be attracting a little bit of both audiences, hardcore and casuals. Overall, i firmly believe the demographic used to be different, but it no longer is. Now it's simply a healthy combination of both.

The problem now lies in convincing game developers of this, because they're still burned from dealing with the Wii and Wii U crowd.

Re: The Top 10 Best-Selling 3DS Games (As Of December 2018)

diablo2

Sadly, this list just shows how Nintendo console owners tend to (sort of) ignore third-party games even when they're pretty solid. Let's face it, there's tons of amazing third party titles on the 3DS, and yet, this list is mostly first party as usual.

For example, NSMB 2 shouldn't even be on that list (in my opinion), so at this point people are just buying games primarily based on a long-established brand rather than the games' merit or overall quality when it comes to Nintendo. Hell, even Wii Music sold relatively well on the Wii, and that was just awful.

It's going to take many years for loyal Nintendo fans to better embrace (quality) third parties a bit more. It's already happening with the Switch, to some degree, but only time will tell.

Re: 2D Puzzle-Based Side-Scrolling Awaits In Inops, Coming To Switch This Weekend

The indie community is sometimes underrated, so i will say this: Small indie games are usually the only source where devs can fully experiment with creativity and interesting / quirky mechanics. So at least they have that benefit over big-budget titles, where everything is often more mainstream and repetitive (see: Call of Duty, GTA, etc).

Translation: Game looks good and creative. Let's hope it holds up.

Re: Reggie: Third-Party Gaps In Switch Game Library Linked To Timing Of System Reveal

diablo2

@NotSoCryptic This is why Nintendo needs to stop pretending that Sony and Microsoft aren't competitors. As more games are missing from Nintendo consoles each generation, that equals to a lot of $$$ spent on the other consoles instead.

The main issue is that Nintendo's consoles are making the company a profit, which has blinded them to their surroundings. They don't care about the bigger picture; they don't care about the bigger underlying issue here.

In other words: If Nintendo produced more powerful hardware, their profit margins (per unit) would be extremely thin or they could even sell at a loss. But in return for that sacrifice, they would start receiving more Triple-A titles which drives revenue back to the company. This also leads to a higher fanbase over time.

All in all, Nintendo can be quite gifted in some areas, but embarrassingly shortsighted in others.

Re: Koei Tecmo's Mystery Switch Tease Was For A New Horse Racing Game

diablo2

@Antraxx777 Yup...agree. And on that note, thats why Nintendo needs to give certain IPs another chance. F-Zero, Wave Race, and Punch-Out come to mind.

These games sold relatively well — not great, but their respective consoles were not exactly known for moving lots of software (hence the reason why they need to try again). The Switch is an entirely different beast.

I guess Nintendo has set the bar very high over the years, saleswise. So anything that only sells ~2 million is not that exciting to them anymore, leading them to abandon it.

Re: Bethesda Confirms It Won't Be Bringing Fallout 76 To The Nintendo Switch

diablo2

@BigKing Apologists usually say, "If Nintendo starts competing on CPU specs, then it wouldn't be any different than the PlayStation and Xbox. So what would set the machine apart?"

The answer is simple: Nintendo can choose power in addition to their usual innovative tactics. It doesn't have to be one or the other.....even if the price increases a bit. But nope, they simply refuse.

Otherwise, they could choose to break even with console sales, as opposed to making a substantial profit per unit (knowing they make millions on game sales and accessories). I feel that more companies could learn from Amazon's business model (they weren't profitable for many years; even their Kindle devices were just breaking even, knowing they'd make the money from ebook sales instead).

I love you, Nintendo, but come on. It's mostly their fault that half the games are missing in action.

@impurekind It's people like you that make the Comments section (on any website) feel so toxic.

Someone's mere opinion has triggered paragraph after paragraph of pointless rants and insults. If you didn't agree with someone, all you had to say was, "I really think you'll change your mind someday. You just haven't given it a fair chance."

Did you see how short and easy that was?

If petty opinions make your blood boil this much, you should probably go out more and work on those issues.

Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé On Why The Switch Uses A Mobile App For Voice Chat

diablo2

Reggie is such a typical spokesperson. He will spin something and make it sound "positive" no matter what. Just another moron that's completely out of touch with reality.

He's basically implying that this mobile app is the only way to do things. But why can't Nintendo do what Epic did with Fortnite? Why can't they give people the choice of using the app or connecting in a friendlier way just the way Fotnite did?

Give OPTIONS, Nintendo, OPTIONS...
