On the same day we find out about Nintendo applying for an Endless Ocean trademark, the Australian Classification Board reveals Ubisoft's 2008 Wii title Sports Party is making its way to the Switch at some point in the near future.
Originally released on the Wii a decade ago, Sports Party features nine sports-themed mini-games, with three difficulty levels and includes motion control support. This classification follows the recent release of Go Vacation on the Switch by Bandai Namco (another game originally released during the Wii generation).
At this year’s E3, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explained how the French-based publisher wanted to adapt the right brands to the Nintendo Switch by taking into consideration the player base and also the capacity of the machine.
Did you own or play Sports Party on the Wii? Are you interested in seeing more Wii games released on the Switch? Are you satisfied with the games Ubisoft has released on the Switch so far? Tell us below.

Ubisoft the Switch does appeal to more than the middle aged women who loved the Wii. I enjoy games like this from time to time, but you have other awesome IPs that people have been begging for on the Switch too.
And people say the Switch is lacking triple A 3rd party games... I'm sure whipping this out at the next party will make all the PS4 and Xbox one users wanna sell their old consoles and get a Switch!
Switch Sports confirmed!
Looks like more 3rd parties are taking advantage of Nintendo not yet doing a Wii Sports successor.
Hm.....
I smell Petz series, Imagine series will come to Nintendo Switch.
So now Nintendo is done with the Wii U ports and they are now focusing on Wii ports?
@ReaderRagfish
Don't worry.
Rated G = General = Everyone.
Ubisoft, you suck so much. It would be more meaningful to port Red Steel 2.
i think Ubisoft gets a pass. They have done more than enough for the Switch as it is. they gave us the amazing Mario+Rabbids SRPG, the fractured but whole, monopoly, and the upcoming starlink feat. Fox exclusively on the switch version. its companies like EA that shouldnt get a pass for wanting to bring shovelware as all they brought are fifa 18 and fifa 19 .-. like, this year alone EA launched two games that looked and played like they were made for the switch (A Way Out and Unravel Two) and yet they put them on all platforms but Switch .____.
I’m sorry, but I sincerely do hope that every one of these cheap Wii-era cash-ins flops! If they succeed, these developers will get the same idea that there is a market for crapped-out product and they’ll pursue it!
When are these companies going to learn that quality games DO sell on the Switch, so long as they’re not:
-grossly overpriced
-lacking features that are available on other platforms (offering a fraction of the DLC, for example)
-butchered ports. There’s a difference between a port that’s optimized (Doom, Wolfenstein II) and, say, Far Cry for Wii.
-under-promoted
-average, at best (Rogue Troopers?).
So, go ahead and release Carnival Games, Go Vacation, and whatever other crap you can pull out of that era. Switch is selling to a completely different demographic. Most of us know that. Why don’t they?
Sigh. I feared the Go Vacation port would inspire these to happen.
Now more third parties are going to look into their backlog and rehash old Wii games as new titles.
@Liam_Doolan Loving the subtitle, haha
Lame
One Wii game I wish Ubisoft would dig up and make a Switch sequel to is the Red Steel series. The first one was so-so, but I loved the second one with it's post apocalyptic New Mexico meets Samurai World. And I'd like to see somebody try a AAA (OK, Red Steel was maybe AA) action game using sword swinging motion controls now that the joycons are supposed to be so much more accurate.
If people arent happy about it, dont buy it! u guys dont have to buy it. A few things people dont seem to get is Nintendo has so many different teams working on other games, Another thing is, brand new games take atleast a year of development, if u want them any good
Hey, I don't mind the Switch getting games like this. Some folk love em. What I do object to is Yves Guillemot is trying to paint all the Switch owners with the same brush. More worryingly, a different one to what was used at launch.
As Thanos would say: "Everything must have a balance". Too much shovelware will harm the system.
There is already Go Vacations, Carnival in the horizon and now this?
Enough really, what about Steep that nobody heard about it anymore?
@tourjeff But this isn't shovelware. It's just a game you are not interested in.
Not that I wouldn't say yes to some old games from Wii, but why not bring some potentially good and interesting games like Red Steel and Red Steel 2? Both of course enhanced with real-time motion controls, HD rumble and better graphics.
@JayJ
What has Nintendo do with this?
@BanjoPickles
We can't really win, sadly. Because if we buy these games, they will say:"Oh look, they are buying these shovelware! Let's release some more!" But if we don't buy them, they will say:"Look, Switch gamer don't buy 3rd party games, so you don't get no more." 🙄
@GrailUK Clearly you and I have different opinions about shovelware.
And, just for the record, I like these games, they are easy to play and I enjoy them when playing with my daughter or friends.
But I definitely don't want to see loads of these kind of games being ported to the Switch.
@tourjeff You don't want to see loads of games you enjoy playing with your daughter or friends on the Switch? Ok. You really gave me nothing to hang my hat on there lol (I think I get where you are coming from mate. It can be seen as low effort on Ubisoft's part.)
@GrailUK No, what I don't want to see is loads of games that have an avarage or below avarage quality being ported cheaply by these big devs just to make a quick buck.
I like variety and a system full of Lego and "Mini-Games" games is not a good system.
At the end you got to one of the points I didn't mention but you understood: these bigs devs (not Ubisoft only) should be investing a lot more in the Switch.
The system is not a failure that the Wii U was and the games are selling well so they should be taking the system more seriously.
@tourjeff I can 100% get behind your sentiment mate Still, we are approaching that magic 12 year point where folk start feeling the first wave of nostalgia for something. So who knows, maybe these Wii games will attract more folk to Switch. (It's just a shame that the NVidia Shield seems to be getting all the best ones hahah.)
Can't decide between this and Go Vacation. Will wait for a review before deciding what to buy. Have.plenty of games I can play with my children until then.
I had a feeling it was a bad omen when Nintendo opened their first ever Switch conference with 1-2 Switch. They were basically inviting third parties to roll out the "this is the Switch userbase" logic.
@MrBlacky
Unfortunately, you’re right. They would never pull this crap on Sony or Microsoft.
This is the system seller right here.
Not to sound like a hater, but mannnnn the Switch just won't stop with older titles, huh? I wonder what the "port-to-originals" ratio will be at the end of the console's life.
@BanjoPickles
Go Vacation was NOT a Crap.
What's wrong with those Casual games ?
Not everyone want to buy AAA 3rd party Full of Violences Action games.
For me and other audiences, Simple, Easy and Light gameplay are the main selling point for Casual gamers.
I definetely support Ubisoft ideas to provide some Casual games with Decent / Good quality.
I like Petz series, Imagine series and other Casual games from Ubisoft despite some of their games are not really Wow (But at least their games are quite entertaining and the ideas are fun).
@tourjeff
Go Vacation Switch was really GOOD, you know !
As a Casual gamer, i really impressed with the HD Remake, compared with Wii version.
Just because it targeted for Casuals, it doesn't mean the games are always crappy.
Even some Casual gamers can turn into Pro gamers when they get into the games seriously.
@Anti-Matter
It was absolutely crap! It was an unresponsive, shallow-as-a-puddle waggle fest. I bought it, along with Carnival games, back in 2011, played them with my stepsons a couple of times, and never touched them again.
Not every game has to be AAA, but the system doesn't have to be inundated with relics from the Wii era either. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of Wii games that I would love to see polished and released: No More Heroes, A Boy and His Blob, Little King's Story, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Punch Out, Red Steel 2, etc.
You like them? Great! You're not the only person that owns the system. You want your fluffy, adorable, rainbows and skittles games? You have an abundance of them! I just can't help but shake my head at these developers who invest heavily into MS and Sony while giving Switch games that weren't even good to begin with; there are exceptions, of course (Rayman Legends, Lego City Undercover, etc.).
And I'll give Ubisoft some credit: they are responsible for one of the best games on Switch: Mario + Rabbids.
@BanjoPickles
"Unfortunately, you’re right. They would never pull this crap on Sony or Microsoft."
Even on Sony / Microsoft machines still there are some Casual games with Decent quality (or really Crappy).
@BanjoPickles
Pardon, crappy ??
Go Vacation Switch was MUCH Better than Wii version !
Check again from Youtube.
I know, you HATE Cute and Casual looking games.
But remember, there are some peoples still really like Go Vacation and other Casual games despite of some flaws.
Yeah, maybe Go Vacation was NOT an AAA games, but there are Always some audiences like Calm, Relax, Cute looking games to play together.
Go Vacation Switch for me was like Wii Sports + Animal Crossing + Open World style.
Ughhhhh...
I hate this new trend of re-releasing Wii games.
@JJ286
But...
It's also a good news for Casual gamers.
Gaming is not always to be dedicated like a Pro gamers, isn't it ?
@Anti-Matter
I could spin that around on you just as easily:
I know that you hate violent games that don't have adorable, fuzzy creatures in them but remember that there are still millions of gamers who DO enjoy those games.
And unless they redid the entire game, from the ground up, it SUCKS! I'm not against motion controls: Wii Sports/Resort were two fantastic examples of the genre done right. Go Vacation was a **** poor cash in on a console that was littered with them. I love casual games just as much as the next person, when they are done RIGHT! Crapping out a "me too" game with garbage controls and cute visuals doesn't automatically make it good.
@BanjoPickles
What ?
Go Vacation Switch use Normal input of Joy Cons buttons instead of Waggle all the time.
You can play Go Vacation with Joy Cons attached on Switch.
Have you tried the Switch version ?
I heard Good feedback from peoples playing on Youtube videos. They enjoyed the gameplay with Joy Cons.
And i saw some changes between Switch & Wii version, and Switch version have some new things that was NOT featured on Wii version.
I have played the Wii version too, and it was quite good. The motion control was just right but the graphic details was a MESS on Wii version.
Well, i'm kinda like David versus Goliath in term of gaming preference.
@Anti-Matter
If they cleaned it up, and actually put real effort into it, then I'm all for it. You and I likely have very different opinions on what passes as a AAA title. When I think AAA, I'm not thinking about the "maturity" of the title. It doesn't even have to be a $40 million production. My definition of AAA changes, depending on the console. With PS4, I do consider AAA to be the big productions; the gaming equivalent ofa popcorn flick, ala The Avengers, Star Wars, what have you. With Nintendo's hardware, I consider AAA to be a game that is at least ATTEMPTING to keep pace with Nintendo's own stellar output! Mario + Rabbids, for example. I would also consider Octopath Traveller a AAA game (many consider it AA), mainly because of the passion and polish (at least based off of my experience with the demo, which was awesome!). I would also consider optimized games like Doom and Wofenstein II, which were excellent on their initial platforms, to be AAA because of a combination of defied expectations, budget, etc.
You brought up casual titles and, as I've mentioned, I do believe that they have a place and a purpose. I love the Bit.Trip series, Pac Man Championship Edition 2, Donkey Kong classic, Order Up, the first Cooking Mama, etc. Like I said, when they're done right! Go Vacation, at least on Wii (I haven't played the Switch version, nor will I), was a complete mess and it was a depressing reminder that even though Wii was the best selling console of the generation, developers still weren't taking it as seriously as they should have!
@Anti-Matter I'm more opposed to the fact these are ports like Go Vacation. Is just third parties being extremely lazy.
@Anti-Matter Don't get me wrong, sometimes I do play casual games and I enjoy them. A few on my catalogue are: Snipperclips, Overcooked and Just Dance.
My point was that I don't want to see the system to become a shovelware like the Wii, after a while, was with devs creating cheap below avarage games just to make some quick money.
The Switch already proved not to be a failure so why not invest more on the platform with NEW good games and that includes casuals too?
In around 6 months we will have Go Vacation, Carnival and probably Sports Party and if I'm not mistaken Konami is preparing a similar game too.
We are already flooded with so many Lego games that I definitely don't want to see that being repeated with these "casual" games.
@BanjoPickles
You know, there was One Ubisoft game that i had Threw away (i donated to someone) 4 years ago due to Very Disappointing gameplay and storyline. It was Jake the Policeman NDS (And their other series).
I THREW it Away that game.
Even as a Casual gamers, i can tell the gameplay was just fine for Mediocre titles or really Unacceptable.
My definition of AAA is completely different.
I usually NEVER looking for AAA titles that most peoples play them.
If the games could make me play and play again, i consider them as AAA games, regardless of graphics / budgets / franchises.
Some of games i consider as AAA, with score at least 9 / 10 or 10 / 10.
1. Dance Dance Revolution series ( 10 / 10 )
2. The Sims series ( 9 / 10)
3. Animal Crossing New Leaf 3DS ( 9 / 10 )
4. Portal Knights ( 9 / 10 )
5. Para Para Paradise Arcade ( 9 / 10 )
6. MaiMai Arcade ( 9 / 10 )
7. Final Fantasy VIII ( 9 / 10 )
@tourjeff
I admit there were some Crappy Casual Wii games, made by Lazy developers.
There were some interesting titles, but with Very Blatant gameplay.
I still have some difficulty to add more my Wii games collection due to my experiences in the past by playing the pirated Wii games and found some Disappointing Wii games after played.
Oh no... here we go with all the Wii garbage.
Just make a new Rayman or Child of Light. My girl would stab me if I took out this nonsense when our friends came over 😂🤦♂️
@Agramonte
Casual games are NOT Nonsense Garbage !
Some peoples like kind of this games due to Easy to play or Not so complicated gameplay + using common theme.
You can play some beefy A / AA games with your friends.
Like or Not, Nintendo Switch needs kind of this Casual games as long not too many as Wii ( I admit Wii have a lot of Shovelwares from Casual games ).
@Anti-Matter Well, I do not think you can use "Sports Party" as the flag-bearer for "casual games".
I do not remember this being a "gem" on the Wii. You got the "best" one and called it a day. The same with all the Dancing ones that came out.
Go Vacation was an underrated hidden gem that never got the exposure it deserved. This...is not.
