I blame microsoft and sony for the where the industry in right now. They have pushed the costs of making games into astronomical levels with the drive towards realism, adding very little more value to the industry on the whole by never innovating. Now with the popularity of games like 'Grow a garden' and the other chuck away experiences that are churned out on Roblux you can see the games industry execs running scared that they need to realine for the future.
I am not interested myself. but I am sure that some people would like that. Nintendo will never do this because it would take about 5 minutes from release for the reddit posts on how to hack it and distribute it to start.
My only issue with game key cards are that they are confusng when you have several switches, and that they have put keycards on games like Fortnite which is stupid. I personally see these as good in comparrison to digital, and not comparable to physical releases. I hope they are careful to market them for what they are and not mislead people.
So I guess there is no love for the people that love the intermissions. Just the usual crying online and trying to cancel in order to get their own way. If only life was perfect...
So as I write we have here an article claimimg that people don't like the switch 2 screen, and a poll that currently says 93% are happy. You can't make it up, but journalists can!!
@Yydeckard I am not overly impressed with these minimal changes myself. But I am still buying a switch 2, mainly because if I want to play the new zelda/mario etc. then I will need one.
I got burnt on a good smile company figure, I bought one of 'Red' from ebay. Then years later I didn't want it anymore so sold it on ebay and the buyer noticed it was fake.
I am from the UK and waited for the invite from Nintendo UK, I knew that I had done everything needed to get one. Got the email, did a pre order, and had a couple of emails confirming things from there. Can't complain at all.
I think we should just change this wording of marioesque, zeldaesque to cheap marketing led copies of games you love.
I mean I do respect that any of these games could be fun to play, and offer something unique in certain things they put into the game. But I feel the games industry is going through a similar phase to what films did a few years ago. Where they had some success which led to getting bloated on sequels, remakes, and copycats. Not exactly helped with this stupid kickstarter idea.
@Wexter "It is very depressing when you actually stare at reality in the face."
I think currently you could look at the future of many things in life and feel that way. in fact when you buy a game in the future, will a computer have made it, sold you it, emailed it you, and charged you for it.
I think people are forgetting that Nintendo don't make up the rules, they just use exsisting laws and legally acceptable practises to run there business. So if you have a problem with the rules that Nintendo are using then you are shouting at the wrong person.
Alright Rockstar, you spend all your time making your games look good for those cut scenes, while Nintendo spend that time making sure the gameplay sings.
@-wc- "Parents, don't buy your kids the camera. Nintendo, password lock adding friends on kids' profiles. Adult users, block people if they bother you."
Do you not have children? All online restrictions for kids is useless, if you have them on then you can't do anything, and if you turn them off then they get everything. There maybe complicated systems were you can control what is turned off and on, but these are uncommon and very difficult to set up effectively because there is always an excemption where restrictions you think you have set up don't work for everything. For instance if I turn off voice chat for the switch I would fully expect that it could opened on games like Fortnite/overwatch. Plus as kids get older they learn how to work round things.
I beleive Nintendo is a leader in trying to keep kids spaces safe, in most cases the parental controls are set up by manufactuerers in order to tick a box and not to do anything effectively. As much as I apprecaite my privacy in life I aslo apprecaite mine and my children being protected. Plus I gave up on privacy a long time ago, too much small print and hidden details you don't quite understand in all those terms and conditions.
Addition - Yes I do understand that, in some ways, makes me a coroporate gladhand. (great terminology, I may use it myself somewhere)
Can we not just bring this whole conversation into the same thing, basically the industry wants to kill physical media and the consumer is going to lose out in the process.
@Uncle_Franklin I was also impressed with the way Nintendo tried to cut out the scalpers, and also show some loyalty. So rare for companies to act that way.
@-wc- "OR: is this your way of saying "You should stop sharing your opinion because I've personally deemed it minoritarian and therefore offensive and tiresome." As much as I agree that the comment in question could be construed in that way. I do agree with them that it is highly likely that people with dissent to the pricing will be more likely to make comment, if you are happy then there is hardly any need to comment that. I do note that there will also be many who don't like the price but don't choose to comment. I think only time will tell us the truth. I feel that we are doing the usual of listening too hard to the vocal people online, probably as there is no stats in order to confirm or deny. Even the initial sales won't paint a true picture, we will have to wait a year or two, or a pandemic or two, in order to get a full idea of how succesful the console is going to be. I couldn't really give one either way, I will get mine and help Nintendo inflate their bank balance as I have been doing for many years!
@JaxonH My comment has got me a few replies saying similar to you. And I assure you that I have my pre order in and hold hope that this will offer me that what I am looking for. I would point out that your suggestion that the mouse invention has never been used with a console before is right, but it certainly has been used for gaming and that is the same thing. I guess it more depends on what using two adds, or the way it seemlessly goes from mouse to normal controller. These things give me more hope that it will offer something new. @link3710 I wasn't trying to say it's a direct copy, rather that 'Is it different enough'. Will it just feel like mouse controlls or will it feel new and different. I am still on the fence as to this, but do look forward to trying it and seeing what I think. My preorder is in and ready.
@OorWullie I have mine on pre order to see what I think, currently I feel a little underwhelmed with what I would usually expect from Nintendo. And I will buy the basketball game in order to give it go too. @BTB20 I am keen to try any innovation that changes the way we play games, I wonder how different it will make the experience of using two instead of one. Maybe that brings something new. Althougth I only enjoyed seperating the joy cons in a few situations, they felt a disjointed in many ways. @Friendly I am intriguided to give that a try, but at the moment I don't feel it's a massive innovation. Maybe trying it will change my mind.
I think he's right, the mouse thing is just copying what a PC offers. It's not new or innovative which is something they have always strived for in the past.
