Re: Soapbox: Game Freak Could Actually Learn A Thing Or Two From Palworld

@Kiwi_Unlimited No I haven't played it but I have heard it has a few interesting ideas that have been implemented well. So I think it's a bit cheap to try and use something else to promote yourself, but if you have made the game enjoyable then that's not a bad thing. I am not likely to be able to play this one as I only have a switch, but you never know.
Personally I am not a fan of the concept of games ideas coming from marketing but as I said if it makes a fun game then so be it.

Re: GAME Apparently Ending Physical Trade-Ins From Next Month (UK)

This is just another nail in the coffin, this time they are after physical games, next is the console.

In some ways you have to look at the digital world as a way of saving world resource, however governments are not regulating the industry and this is allowing business to take the p*** out of consumers. The biggest example is that they charge the same or more for digital against physical, how on earth do they work that out!

@Spider-Kev
She was the CEO for the post office during the biggest miscarriage of justice in the UK. She knowingly allowed people to be prosecuted for crimes that she knew they didn't commit. Over 500 people were fined/jailed/bankrupted, some even committed suicide, while she lied and did everything she could to protest the business she ran.
I would also mention she has CBE and was a cleric, no god fairing person should ever stoop as low.
It's a long story, but this is the wikipedia page for it - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Post_Office_scandal

Re: Soapbox: "Go Outside, Get Some Fresh Air" - Why Won't Outmoded Gamer Stereotypes Die?

dew12333

@SwagaliciousJohnson You are completely right about the way that older people feel about gaming. I am personally 51 and although the beginnings of the industry was a great time for me, because I loved it. But it was heavily criticised for taking people away from outside hobbies at that time, and it really did then because most hobbies at the time made people go outside.
It's only since the wii and phones/ipads have come along which really changed that rhetoric by bringing gaming to a wider audience, so really people are just holding on to that old generalisation.
Just ignore them, they are wrong and gaming is great!

Re: Feature: Game Boy Color - A Quarter Century Of Colour Nintendo Handhelds

dew12333

I just saw this as an upgrade and despite there being a few games that were exclusive I never considered it worth it. I just carried on playing the grey brick until the advance and I never felt I missed anything.
I seem to remember there was already rumours about the advance when this released too. That really added to the feeling that this was just a quick upgrade to slightly extend the shelf live of the game boy rather than being the next real Nintendo console.

Re: E3 Has Been Cancelled, Permanently

dew12333

Thanks for some amazing memories E3. The biggest loss here is the pressure it put on games makers to make their games memorable.
But the world is a changing place and the format isn't needed anymore. As long and we get directs, and whatever ever the other companies call them then will be fine as consumers.

Re: Video: Where Does Mario Kart Go From Here?

dew12333

I would make the game more like the original and less like the newer versions. I find them too floaty and the rubber banding a massive issue, also take out the customisation on the vehicles, just keep it to the characters.

But a pretty similar game to all the previous one's with a little gimmick on the side, as per usual.

Re: Valve Announces Steam Deck OLED, Says Switch OLED Paved The Way

@IceEarthGuard Hi, I think in a perfect world you may be correct, but I imagine a marketing department doing sums in order to see what to attach themselves to in order to steel some of that market from someone else. Then popping out to another department to ask them to make a switch, to which they will answer 'but we can't do that because of patent's'. 'Bah!, don't worry about that get a solicitor he tell you how we can get round that'. Then a short while later in a sales meeting 'sales numbers are dwindling, what are we going to do?', replied with 'just copy the switch thing again, get an oled screen. To which they all pat themselves on the back for that great innovation! Overall I would like to see real innovations and expect more from companies. But I am a cynical old git, and nintendo fanboy so a very blurred opinion.
I also thought of your analogy on laptops, couldn't help but think that was different market, but I certainly could see your point.

Re: Valve Announces Steam Deck OLED, Says Switch OLED Paved The Way

dew12333

@CaptainCluck What are you referring to the devise that Sony bought in for competition of the handheld gaming market. I think the switch has enough unique ideas to separate itself from that device.

But if you don't think the deck is not following a similar pattern to the switch then that is your opinion and I respect that. I have stated that I think they have, I am not trying to change your opinion or push mine in your face.

Re: Warner Bros. Says It's Focused On Transforming Its "Biggest Franchises" Into Live Services

dew12333

I love and hate games that fund themselves with sales of skins etc. I never change the appearance even if it's free I wouldn't, unless there is beneficial reason to change then I never do. So games of this nature are free for me, I have never paid a penny to play many hours of Fortnite.
My issue is that they do those manipulative practises to my child which I think stinks. For adults I feel the buyer should always be aware of what they are getting into, and in most part responsible for their own actions. But that is not the case for children which is often the area that they push this the hardest.
