Re: 25 Years Later, And Night Trap Still Isn't Going To Appear On A Nintendo Console

@GrailUK it's important because it's the game Tipper Gore picked to represent the video game industry when she went on her witch hunt against any and every form of media. Everything bad you've ever heard about this game, in terms of content not quality, is mostly a load of lies that were told to demonize the video game industry. They tried empose a government rating system that would have banned a lot of games, and their evidence was mostly lies about what Night Trap contained. The current industry run rating system that we have was the compromise that came out of the Congressional Hearings.
(Mortal Kombat was the other game they used, but that one actually did contain the content they claimed it did. Night Trap was the chance to fight back since most of what they claimed was actually the exact opposite of what the game was about)

I was just old enough to want to play this game simply because they were trying to ban it. Didn't get a chance until years later... It's not a great game by any means, but I think in many ways it is an important one. I had planned on buying it when I heard it was being rereleased. Switch would have been my first choice for platform, but I'll just pick up the PS4 or XB1 version.

Re: Overcooked Is Browning Nicely In The Oven For Switch Release This Week

daveh30

@Kalmaro games have to be submitted to Nintendo for approval before release. Most small devs aren't gonna commit to a release date and risk having the game kicked back by Nintendo for fixes before it's approved, causing them to miss their date. When the dev gets word from Nintendo that the game is approved, they can either release it, which gives us these short notice release dates, or hold it back for no other reason than to give advance notice of the release date. Its not so much Nintendo springing a release date on them as devs wanting to release as soon as possible after getting approval.

Re: Beach Buggy Racing Screeches Onto Switch Next Week

I played it on PS4 when it came out in 2015. I think it was either free or heavily discounted with PS+. Its not bad at all. I wouldn't say there's any reason to buy it if you already own Mario Kart, but its not a bad game. I'd say its one of the better MK clones I've played.

Re: Nintendo's 'Quality of Life' Project Lives On

So first they sell me the Switch and BotW, which I take to bed with me, completely destroying my sleep habits... Then they sell me a sleep tracker, to help improve my sleep habits. Very sneaky, Nintendo....

And, if course, I'm going to buy it, because I'm a man-child consumer with access to credit cards who will buy anything with a Nintendo logo. sigh

Re: Hori Unveils Another Nintendo Switch Headset for July, With Plenty of Wires

daveh30

I sincerely hope Hori made an incorrect assumption in designing this product... that being that a headset would require to plug into both the phone and the system. Surely Nintendo would have designed it so that the system connects to the phone via Bluetooth, and all headset functions would require wired connection to only the phone... Its the only way this makes sense.

I'm glad I don't care about voice chat.

Re: LEGO Worlds Puts the Blocks in Place for a Fall / Autumn Release on Nintendo Switch

daveh30

@Nintendoforlife I was expecting more of an open world, Minecraft style game. This one is *very small levels, silly fetch quests, any challenge that might have been there is removed by the fact that you can just delete any part of the world that might be an obstacle. The controls for trying to build anything are terrible. They might work ok on pc with a mouse, but they're awful on a console controller. I'm a fan of other Lego games, but this one just isn't fun. Even my 7 year old quit after about 30 minutes and went back to Minecraft.

Re: Talking Point: EA and Bethesda Highlight Nintendo Switch as a Portable Powerhouse at E3

daveh30

In all fairness, Nintendo may talk about the hardware as being a home console first, but when it comes time to show games, they show it off as a portable in the same way EA and Bethesda did. All of Nintendo's switch game trailers have been " play it in bed, play it at the breakfast table, play it on the bus, play it in the lecture hall, play it at the park... Oh, btw, it will dock too.... Play it at the rooftop party!"

Re: Review: ARMS (Switch)

@RedMageLanakyn "This site seems to be filled to the brim with children, mentally at least."

When I read that, all I see is "Hurf Derf, I'm a super mature adult and can only play super mature games for adults! Hurf Derf! Colours are for babies!"

It takes a sever lack of maturity to try to correlate someone's taste in video games with their maturity level. Believe it or not, there are mature adults who'd rather play Mario, Splatoon, or even ARMS over the likes of Horizon. Maturity has no bearing on the situation.

Re: Review: ARMS (Switch)

daveh30

The test punch weekends confirmed for me that its really not something I'm interested in, but I'm glad it seems to be getting a positive reception over all. Having new IPs like Splatoon and ARMS do well will only encourage Nintendo to continue to try new things, and anything that can help move a few more systems will help entice 3rd party support.

Edit: ps. Forget the game, I NEED those yellow joy con!

Re: Pokkén Tournament DX Confirmed For Nintendo Switch

daveh30

@roadrunner343 exactly! Everyone loves it when they announce a direct to get peoples hopes up, then use it to announce a port of a spin off, and two half assed mid-life "upgrades" of two current games.
The best thing about the direct was 2 VC games, and let's be honest... If you're a fan, you already have them. If you're a fan, theres nothing here for you. (Unless, I guess, you're super excited to buy 2 more copies of a 3DS game you already bought twice...)
really all they announced was a bunch of 2nd chances for folks who couldn't be bothered the first time around...

Re: Get Ready for a Pokémon Direct on 6th June

daveh30

Seems odd that they would announce anything big a week before E3... Not really a pokemon fan myself, but if I was I wouldn't be getting my hopes up. Feels to me more like something small they don't want to get lost in the E3 shuffle. If they're gonna announce something like a mainline pokemon game for Switch now, the E3 plans would have to be huge to bump it.

Re: Talking Point: ARMS Has Plenty to Prove In Its Nintendo Direct

daveh30

I doubt I'll ever buy this one. Doesn't look like my cup of tea. Not really a fan of fighting games, and the motion controls are a turn off. Would have much prefered a new Punch Out! with proper controls. Motion controls are fine as an option, but I don't like seeing them pushed as the intended way to play, with compromised physical controls.
