As someone who's put over 65hrs into Codename STEAM the length of the enemy turns was never serious enough to detract from my enjoyment of the game. Honestly, the enemies' turn only lasts about 30s-1min in actual time and only seems longer akin to waiting for a stop light to change or water to boil.
People who collect G&W do so for nostalgia and want the legit package. These days there are all kinds of time waster games you can find on smart devices for free. It might be more practical to develop Android/iPhone software to make your own LCD games instead.
More of an artistic re-interpretation of old school games than something original. It reminds me of all the failed attempts to contemporize classic arcade games for a modern audience that has never heard of them before. I do like the design aesthetic but these are too simple to be anything more than time wasters (of which there are much better these days).
It'll be interesting to see if any teachers make good on these threats and what kind of legal repercussions there will be once the police determine its a load of bollux. Its the equivalent of a crank call and should face similar fines.
"Zero suit is right...she was pretty much wearing nothing at all." Kind of the point. The Zero suit is what Samus wears underneath her more recognizable battle armour. Its basically like Under Armor.
Hardly surprising that this is a clean sweep for 1st party. Even given the limited alternatives to vote on there is no denying Nintendo knows their own hardware.
@EllenJMiller Agreed. Making a game with Zelda as the main protagonist certainly makes more sense than re-assigning Link's gender 'just because'. That's not progress, its a lack of creativity.
@EllenJMiller Agreed. Why bother contorting an existing character to fit fan fiction dreams when you've already got a strong female character to make a spin off with. The game is called the Legend of Zelda, the rest writes itself. I'd actually be excited to play a game where Zelda/Sheik was the main protagonist. Make it happen Nintendo!
Is there anyone who was actually worried about the DeNA deal or is this just media hype to stir the pot? Isn't this what stock holders have been demanding for the last few years now? The rise in stock price certainly doesn't point to a lack of confidence.
I'd be more than willing to pay the extra toonie if that meant Amiibo supplies could become stabilized. Sadly this is just a price hike because of the exchange so boo-urns Nintendo.
Analysts are like meteorologists: half of the time they're just guessing and are frequently wrong. I take little these charlatans say with any degree of seriousness.
How is this even comparable to a "Sega moment"? Nintendo themselves indicated new hardware was on the horizon in the same press announcement. This isn't a restructuring, its diversification.
Interesting, but ultimately not that useful. Getting puzzle pieces is nice but you could just as easily use 3DS Coins for most of that. The real value in Streetpass hits is the number of actual people you connect with (kind of like a gamer score).
Actual psychological studies go through numerous trials in case the conclusions are just self-fulfilling. This seems like one of those studies where they stopped short and just called it a day with one sample set.
Whether or not you're a Wil Wheaton fan the dialogue in STEAM is really campy (think like 60's Batman) which will not be to everyone's taste. Interested gamers should at least try the demo instead of dismissing it because of one voice actor though.
Totally Day1 purchase for me. I also wish more games would have the rewards you earned during the demo transfer over to the full version like in Codename STEAM.
None of my Amiibos are consistent enough to take part in a tournament. Most of the time they're brutal killers but every so often they'll do the stupidest stuff (like trying to edge guard but failing miserably).
I'm really digging the quirky art style for this game. My only complaint is that the male character designs don't really fit into the whole hair-as-tentacles aesthetic. Maybe if they'd given them dreadlocks or something.
The more Amiibo support the better. I can understand Nintendo wanting to keep the benefits that Amiibos provide as non-essential but they definitely need to up the ante a bit. Right now the best case for Amiibo feature is definitely Codename STEAM which makes the Fire Emblem characters playable. As for new games getting fig sets I'd say Starfox, new Zelda, and Splatoon could be promising.
I've run through the demo several times and IMO Codename STEAM is one of the more promising new IPs to come out in awhile. Boycotting this game over something so insignificant is silly. Its not like it's a propaganda filled diatribe written by Wil Wheaton, he provides one character's voice. That's all.
Runbow by leaps and bounds. I tried an early build at an indie con last summer and take every opportunity to spread the word on this super addictive game.
I'll toss my hat in for more Amiibos, especially the store exclusive Meta Knight. In my area it seems like the only retailer still on the ball is TRU who get constant restock of hot characters.
I take every chance I get to pimp Runbow. I tried out an early build at an indie con last summer and could not get enough. I'm calling for it now: Amiibo support.
Runbow is easily my most anticipated game of 2015. I tried an early build at an indie con last summer and played it for 2hrs straight before realizing how much time had past. As a party game it is so addictive.
The Gold Marios are collectors items and variants at that. If the average person just wanted a Mario Amiibo to play with then they have ready affordable access to them. I may not love scalpers but I don't see this particular Amiibo as being a serious problem.
OMG a re-release of F-Zero GX for 3DS would be awesome! The customization and Streetpass potential would be ridiculous. I wouldn't mind Last Story either but this could just as easily be done via VC on the WiiU.
I got burned really badly for the collector's edition when BD first came out because I didn't pre-order early enough (misjudged the demand). Gonna be sure to pre-order ASAP this time around.
Nothing terribly new here. Fun factor is what drives the Nintendo brand. It is a little weird that this was so low for XBone and not even mentioned for PS4 though. Makes me wonder what kind of questions they ask in these surveys which would skew the data so dramatically.
@AVahne Hence the empty recommendations for a portable coming from western developers who aren't going to support the platform anyways.
Personally, I'm very happy with the Japanese support. And I'm not worried about N3DS because it's backed by Nintendo. That's assurance enough there will be great games available.
Purely from a collecting standpoint I'd be interested in knowing the actual production/distribution numbers for each individual Amiibo. It's pretty obvious that some were produced in far greater numbers than others.
I'm OK with how they did the unlocks this time around for WiiU. There were fewer locked characters and all you really needed to do was keep playing. This was particularly gratifying because I'd already gone through the grind of unlocking everyone on 3DS in which there were no freebies.
PS Vita already implements a lot of the ideas these developers suggested and has performed miserably on the market because of a lack of developer support. That speaks volumes to how much weight their opinions hold.
Nintendo is going to do their own thing their own way and we'll all still end up buying it. That's brand power.

@brianvgplayer You should check out the Club Nintendo G&W DS exclusives which featured a cross between Parachute & Octopus.
