A new era, or a false start?

There's been a lot of debate in the past few days around multiple topics that are important in the world of Nintendo. The corporate 'alliance' with DeNA will bring Nintendo brands to smartphone apps, services and - notably - games, while the former will also handle a lot of the dull-but-important infrastructure work on a 'Membership' programme to replace Club Nintendo. In a move likely planned to ease fears of Nintendo bailing from the hardware market, Nintendo President also announced that a new dedicated gaming platform - code named 'NX' - will be shown in 2016.

There have been plenty of discussions around all of this, while Nintendo and DeNA have also made a series of carefully calculated statements. The smart device reveal was ultimately the game changer, taking Nintendo from a position of vague goals and non-committal statements to a deliberated policy of tackling the sector 'aggressively'. Mario, Samus, Link and more will likely soon appear - legally and not in dodgy ROMs - on smartphones and tablets; the form of these experiences and which IP will initially be used is unknown, but the message is clear. No IP or franchise is ruled out.

With this in mind we've decided to run one of our customary series of Polls. We've all had time to digest and consider the three key announcements from this week, some more detailed than others, and we're keen to know what you think. Are you coming around to the idea of Nintendo games on smartphones? What do you make of DeNA's role in the new membership programme? Did the announcement of the 'NX' project assuage any fears you may hold?

We want to know what you think, so by all means share your votes and comments below.
