We're big advocates of the Wii U and 3DS eShop stores here at Nintendo Life, and both have delivered some fantastic games in recent times. Nintendo of America has now issued fresh details on a range of new titles on the way, with some truly exciting news to keep download fans busy.
To start with the headline announcements - all specific to North America at this point - we have Affordable Space Adventures arriving on 9th April; we're big fans of this game, recently showing off the unique GamePad co-op in an early-look build. Swords & Soldiers II on Wii U is coming in May, meanwhile, with the quirky 3DS eShop HAL Laboratory puzzle title BOXBOY! due in Spring - Wii U multiplayer game Runbow is down for Q3.
There are enticing details on new releases, too. Don't Starve: Giant Edition - previously confirmed without the extended name - is described as the 'definitive' edition through utilising the GamePad for a map, and arrives this Spring. For our part we're particularly delighted by the announcement of Never Alone, a gorgeous puzzle platformer set in the Arctic - it arrives in June with the GamePad offering off-TV play and "contextual insights".
You can see trailers for some of these major releases below.
Beyond these major announcements, Nintendo's provided extensive release details for many more games. These lists have some interesting details in their own right - Trine Enchanted Edition arrives on 12th March, for example, Octodad: Dadliest Catch is coming this Summer, and WayForward is releasing Shantae: Risky's Revenge – Director's Cut on Wii U and 3DS this fall. That's a whole load of games, some of which are particularly exciting - which eShop games are you most looking forward to?

Very excited for the future of the eShop with all these indies!
Some decent games in there. I found Never Alone to be a huge disappointment, but I was probably just a bit too excited for it pre-release. Wind Up Knight 2 is a great game though. Hope they don't make it a ridiculous price or everyone will just get the IOS version.
ill be getting the dementium update asap!
I just see one first-party game and a bunch of indies. What's so exciting about that?
Swords and Soldiers 2 and Don't Starve are very tempting.
I will buy Shantae RR again, even if I have it on the DSiWare, if only to remove one game from my DSiWare list to give place to others (like I did with Cave Story). Plus, the game is just awesome.
Pretty interesting stuff. You never know when a hit might be hidden in groups like this. I'm more of a VC guy myself when it comes to using the eShop, but I do like to see some of the good Indy developers succeed.
Shantae is probably the only thing I care about among these titles.
I'll keep looking out for all these cool indies that were funded and targeted a 2015 release (like HOVER, Cryamore, Heart Forth Alicia).
Swords and Soldiers 2 finally in May. Much later than the original Q4 2014 date but at least now I can stop looking for it.
Kinda surprised Ninteod stuck Mario vs DK in the middle of a long indie line-up. The game is due out tomorrow - w/ cross-buy, level editor, Miiverse interation - but I keep forgetting about it.
They should have added amiibo support into M v DK and then it would get some coverage. I actualy still see the DK amiibo in stores occasionally.
Definitely quite a few here that I'm interested in. Risky's Revenge stands out to me the most though. No doubt I'll get it a third maybe even a fourth time. Also really looking forward to BOXBOY!
Aww, no word on SmileBASIC... But man, Never Alone looks really good!
Awesome to see Octodad coming to the Wii U. Also good move WayForward for releasing a Director's Cut of Risky's Revenge.
Runbow looks like a load of fun!
Risky's Revenge's Directors cut?! WaBoom BABY!
BOXBOY!, Cube Creator 3D, and OlliOlli for me.
Trine and Mario vs Donkey Kong... everything else is meh for me.
Elliot Quest, Race the Sun, Steamworld Heist, and Chromophore are my most anticipated ones.
Oh that's great news - Never Alone is fantastic!
My wallet is crying
8 Wii U games and 2 3DS games for me from that list.
I notice Qube: Directors Cut and 90's Arcade Racer are still missing.
Haven't heard of Never Alone, reminds me of Limbo which I really enjoyed. Looking forward to that and Elliot Quest.
well i guess ill have to start back buying an eshop card every payday.
Nice list! And great to have a release date on Affordable Space Adventures!
I had no idea Don't Starve was coming to the WiiU. Have I ben living under a rock?
OH GOD OCTODAD. XD
Sucks that Chromophore doesn't come out until near my birthday. : /
Not buying Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut unless I get some kind of discount for already owning it.
@Captain_Gonru
It's not Trine 3. It's Trine 1.
Trine 3 has no platforms announced besides PC.
Super exciting, way to go nintendo! I was beginning to think with Dan Adelman gone we would not have nintendo aggressively courting indies. These look really good.
@wober2
Nintendo have to go for the indies, they've run out of major third party support.
Surprised to see Wind-Up Knight 2 on there, the original is one of the few phone games I actually got into. Also, when is Tadpole Treble going to get a release date?
All around fantastic news. I'll be jumping in on way to many of these day one. Just don't tell my wife...
...Who am I kidding? Many of these games are looking so great that she would probably buy them if I didn't. Much love for the indies in our household.
More great indies is only a good thing. I played Don't Starve when it was free for a weekend on Steam, and I enjoyed it, but I thought it would be much better with a touch screen and/or physical controls. The Wii U will be perfect. Never Alone has been on my PSN list for a while, so I'm looking forward to that too, and I was already excited about Swords and Soldiers 2. I'm also more than a little interested in Octodad, Trine, Affordable Space Adventures, and Shantae, plus a bunch of the other games on the list. This will be a great year for the eshop.
On another note, my most anticipated games, Lobodestroyo and A Hat in Time, are still nowhere to be seen.
@ThomasBW84 It's DADliest Catch btw. You may want to update the game page and its address too - 'Octodad: Dadliest Catch'.
Some seriously great looking games coming to Wii U eShop
What's new on Risky's Revenge Director's Cut? I was about to buy the trilogy tomorrow LOL. I'll wait then. Thanks Nintendo Life! I would have regretted the purchase.
@AcridSkull D'oh! Thanks for the heads up, I've updated that.
@A01 I know it hurts for commercial success, but I personally do not mind only nintendo and indie games.
I do wish nintendo would aggressively try to get some pc ports over to the wiiu. I am listening to the Pardox interview with Angry Joe http://youtu.be/YiGZZ3QDth4 and they mentioned how Sony reached out to them for the ps4. The touchscreen could bridge the controls gap between pc and console but so few developers even seem interested.
That's quite a list of games. It will be awesome to play new titles and also revisit the likes of Dementium, and a big surprise for me here, the excellent Don't Starve.
@A01
Yeah, what's up with that? When does 90's Arcade Racer drop?
Looks like a pretty nice line-up so far, but I can't help but notice a whole bunch of games are arriving for the Wii U well after their appearances elsewhere. I know it's a reality of being an indie dev--not having the resources to release on multiple platforms simultaneously.
Still, fantastic to see Affordable Space Adventure has a release date.
@Captain_Gonru - Oh well, @A01 or is it @AO1 beat me to it. Trine EE came out in 2009. I'm looking forward to T3 also, but it isn't on the list.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/
Anyway, still no Rogue Legacy...
What's up with Art Academy, Nintendo?
@Quorthon
I remember reading somewhere that 90's Arcade Racer is being made by a one man dev team. So I'll forgive the long development time. Unfortunate to not even see a vague release window like Q3 or Q4 though.
New footage was released in Jan. So it's still coming along. It's been quite a wait though.
@rjejr
Is that it? You won't obsess over what specific Thursday of May SaS 2 arrives?
In any case, I am thrilled to see Boxboy in there. And seeing Risky's Revenge, which means I won't have to cope with DSiware so I will actually be able to get all Shantae games with dollars instead of points. And on the big screen to boot!
Some cool stuff there. Glad that Risky's Revenge is getting re-released on the shop and it will be longer. The less games I have stranded on DSiware the better.
Ah this is awesome! ive been really excited to play shantae, and considering playing risky's revenge before pirate's curse. ive been wanting to play octodad and trine, enchanted edition, and that never alone used to be the best reason to get a ps4 for me
Though I have Shantae on DSi and iPhone, I'll buy it again for the Wii U. And again for the 3DS if it's been remastered in 3D!
NEVER ALONE... WoW i never heard of this game before but now after watching the trailer i am really excited for this game.
Never alone!!!!!!!! yey!!!!!! games looks amazing
Runbow is easily my most anticipated game of 2015. I tried an early build at an indie con last summer and played it for 2hrs straight before realizing how much time had past. As a party game it is so addictive.
@A01
Yeah, and it looked great, particularly for a 1-man team. I'm looking forward to it.
yay Never alone is coming!
I played never alone last year I can't recomened it enough great game
Trine! Yay!!!!
@argh4430 past article says Tantalous (??) will be porting a 1st party game some time soon. So there's that. Besides with Nintendo 1st party, who needs more. I've got a PS4 and that's only for Bloodborne. My Nintendos 2TB drive will be full. Have fun buddy.
@Quorthon
90's Arcade Racer kickstarter page reveals that Nicalis have joined in to finish up the game, so no longer a one man team.
Hopefully that'll speed it up a bit.
Not on this list, but on Nintendo's website is the date for 3D Outrun. March 12.
Can't wait to see what we get with Unity 5. Great also to see so many games coming out, i see Octodad Dadliest Catch really is coming to Wii U
Never Alone looks beautiful.
where is mario maker?!!!!
@ThomasBW84 I though Outrun 3D was due out March 12th?
What is it with devs?
What is so special in wii-u gamepad?
Why they cant made this games on 3ds too?
Why isnt anybody buy me excited to see Tipping Stars on the list..? its first cross buy and its gonna be so fun to design and share and vote.. no?
Looks like good times ahead.
I'm getting Octodad in a heartbeat
Looks like nintendo's planning on promoting cross - buy tomorrow, since both Olli Olli and Mario vs Donkey Kong are out that day.
I haven't seen anything about Never Alone before but I really like what I see.
Mark my words... On December, my Wii U and 3DS will be so full of games, that I will need a new SD Card for my 2DS and a new external HD for my Wii U XD
Glad to see Octodad is coming! A lot of the people I watched playing the game were getting frustrated, and some people (Markiplier) seemed like they were exaggerating their frustration. It can't be that hard, or if it is, then it's good I'll have a rage game. Haven't played one of those in a while.
Oh my
@DontPlayDumb
If the game is made in Unity, that's your answer. There is no Unity for 3DS.
Don't Starve is coming to the Wii U! OH MY GOODNESS! I'M SO EXCITED!!!
Swords and Soldiers 2 is excellent had a long discusssion with one of the developers at Eurogamer expo and played him several times.
I might just be inclined to delete the DSiWare version of Risky's Revenge and pick up the Director's Cut.
Oh man, this makes me regret every one of these purchases on PC, especially Never Alone since it would be so much better to play coop with my wife on the TV....
Hey... how about Guns, Gore and Cannoli? I got a confirnation from the developer that the game is coming to WiiU. Check their websites: http://gunsgorecannoli.com/ and http://crazymonkeystudios.com/
Can't wait for Swords and Soldiers 2, I'll also try out the other indie games but Swords and Soldiers is high on my priority list of indie games.
Woah look at these games coming to the Eshop!It's outstanding and i can't believe Wiiu is getting Never alone!Yes!I just need This War of Mine to come to the Eshop and i'll be more the happy!
@allav866 Markiplier who played Octodad was not exaggerating when playing it.Cause it's that frustrating with those god awful controls,i know cause i bought it.
So, I played SteamWorld Dig and was playing Guacamelee and others and I just like the size of those games sometimes. Shovel Knight, of course, too. You can get a complete satisfying experience without setting aside huge swaths of time.
There's a nice middle ground where these indie games live and I hope we see more success in that area.
Not saying I don't want the new Zelda, though.
Lots of good games on that list. Shutshimi will catch a lot of people by surprise; it's a really neat scrolling side-shooter about an armored fish with a short attention span. Glad to see Hex Heroes on that list, too. A bit disappointed, though, that SteamWorld Heist is just for 3DS (at least at this time).
OMG Don't Starve on Wii U! Even though I already own it on PC and Vita, I'll still be getting this, in hopes of seeing more of Klei games on the Wii U (Mark of the Ninja f.e.)!
I'm really interested in BOXBOY, too. Remembering it as a standout to a Japanese Nintendo Minute.
@mystman12 I know, right? When will SmileBASIC come? I've been holding back so I don't regret not waiting until it comes out, but at this rate I keep checking to see if it's out whenever I suspect the eShop having an update. I'm not sure who or if there is a protagonist on swords and soldier 2, but I may want it from what I can tell it is like.
Wow... When I look at this list it makes me realize that I should probably look out for games on the eShop too, because most of these impress me. I normally only look forward to retail games, but this makes me change my view of the eShop.
Shantae Risky's Revenge Directors Cut? Run that!
Nice list, but there's a TON of much better games coming than these. So many I've lost track. Like Aztez (or Aztan, something like that), Mighty No 9 and Fast Racing Neo just to name a few.
@Windy As I said a few posts earlier, the 3D Outrun date is on Nintendo's website. Considering it just appeared there (a day or two ago, it still had the placeholder date of March 31st listed), March 12th is the likely date.
Not not planning To buy any of the titles listed but I am getting Outrun 3d and Mighty Switch Force 2 during the WayFoward sale. Can't pass on Mighty Switch Force for 2.49 that's close to being the best deal ever in the Eshop. I do like Gunman Clive at 1.99 as a great Eshop deal too.
Wish some of those Wii U eShop games were coming to the 3DS.
Runbow looks awesome!
No mention of FAST racing!?!.........
@brianvgplayer I hope so. I've really been looking forward to Outrun 3d. Sega is single handedly saving Classic 3D. Outrun is one of my favorite games of all time. Me and my brother spent many quarters at the arcade playing the game
I wonder if the omission of Steamworld Heist on Wii U is intentional...
90's Arcade Racer.. where for art thou?
Is AVGN Adventures cancelled for consoles?
I'll be honest, I looked up everyone of these games to give them the once over and not many of them look impressive or were even well received on other consoles.
I need to buy an external HD ASAP. AND Runbow looks amazing
@Gen0neD amen to that! If we can't get Daytona from sega this is next best thing...if it ever gets here!!
@Windy will grab outrun day one!! Now if only sega would jump on wii u!!
Support the wii u indies!! Now if only Nintendo can straighten out the wii u vc situation then I'm good!
Why no release date for Puzzles & Dragons?!
@Kiyata_Hamasaki Because it's not an eshop title, you can get a physical copy with a cartridge on the same day of release.
insert inevitable Mario vs DK 2 week wait for EU comment
This Indie list is far from complete.
Road Redemption, Shiftlings, 90's Arcade Racer and alot more is missing.
Trine 3 will come too.
DONT STARVE <3
PLS 3DS VERSION !!
looks like good times a' coming... won't be able to resist the Affordable Space Adventures, Swords and Soldiers II and probably the others as well Love my Wii U. If only I had more time to play all these games.
Already played a lot of the ones that interest me previously, but might be tempted by Trine and Affordable Space Adventure.
Octodad... never again
@midnafanboy If Mark's playthrough of One Chance has taught me anything, it's that he has a tendency to overreact to stupid crap. I still like most of his vids, though, and it's good to know that Octodad is a genuine rage game.
Don't Starve is a fantastic game. Anyone whos' into survival and doesn't play games on PC (looking at you, anyone who's still whining about no Minecraft on Wii U) - definitely look into buying it.
@sinalefa - I'm too burnt out to obsess over dates for games coming out in May 2015 that were originally listed as Q4 2014. (I'm even too burnt out to repost the image of that graphic w/ the dates on it )
Never alone is a nice surprise. Hopefully it won't be to expensive.
As for Boxboy: Hmmm, the graphics are very simple but it has a unique hook sort of. I guess this is one of the "mobile-style" games Nintendo talked about. Its made by HAL, so it should be decent at the least. But whether I download it or not really depends on reviews and price!!
