Re: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Has Sold 10 Million Copies Since Launch

@russell-marlow Sonic Racing Transformed is a fantastic Kart game and I don't know why you're going on about having to drift when thats a fundamental part of Mario Kart and indeed CTR. It's got great track design based upon various Sega IP, some of which evolve over the course of a race as you swap between land, sea and air vehicles. Local multiplayer is split horizontally instead of vertically, which is better for this kind of game.

Personally, I've never judged my own enjoyment of a game based upon how many other people happened to buy it. I don't think Crash Team Racing is a bad game, I just don't enjoy it as much as the others, thats all and it being 30fps certainly doesn't help either

Re: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

carlos82

A 9 from me, the new mechanics are great fun as well as the Knockout Tour mixing up the formula even if it is utter chaos. Then, not only does it look gorgeous, it has a phenomenal soundtrack that I wish we could select tracks from.

The open world is both brilliantly designed and weirdly underutilised, with some wonderful little details but then you have many SNES courses hidden in plain sight which you can't race on (outside of P switches), a local multiplayer free roam weirdly hidden in the options and a lack of tangible rewards for exploration.

All that said I've loved every minute of my 20 or so hours so far and will be playing this for a long time. As it is, its a fantastic Kart racers but with a few tweaks to how you interact with the world (custom tracks anyone?), 3 lap races as an option for GP mode and a proper multiplayer free roam and this would be an easy 10

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

carlos82

@xzacutor if you'd have traded your Switch 1 in, presumably you would have factory reset it, which in turn removes all account associations, thus removing any reason why it wouldn't work on Switch 2. You can also manage Virtual Game Cards from Nintendo's website if you have any issues in the future and load them onto whichever Switch you want

I actually did the system transfer and all my save data was still on the og Switch, outside of special exceptions like Animal Crossing.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

carlos82

I love it, my Switch OLED had been laying unused for quite some time and even with just the improvements to Switch 1 games on Switch 2 it's brought me back to wanting to replay many of my games, with the 2 big Zelda games looking amazing now on my 4K OLED. Mario Kart World is also brilliant fun

In terms of the hardware itself, the joycons are now something that I don't hate using, the eshop actually works, the new Pro Controller is outstanding and the cartridge slot itself is much improved and easy to open.

If I have any complaints, it's that the screen isn't as nice, though better than the standard Switch models and you do get VRR and a higher resolution. I would like to see Nintendo add an option to play Switch 1 games docked modes in handheld, as some can look quite poor on that larger screen

Re: Want To 100% 'Welcome Tour'? You'll Need To Cough Up For Some Accessories

carlos82

Come on now, what's with the clickbait nonsense? For a start this isnt a game as such to 100%, it's to showcase all available features and how do you expect them to show that Mario pixel demo if you havent got a 4K screen? Not to mention you can skip the ones you don't have and it'll give you the medals anyway making your headline a blatant lie

Re: Talking Point: How Can The Next Animal Crossing Improve Crafting?

carlos82

Bulk crafting would absolutely be a must but also make it far easier to get recipes, I think i played the game for nearly 2 years before getting the necessary chopping board to make a sink.

I'd also add the ability to crafting everything that's in the game, from special Nintendo items to the houses and buildings themselves and make them way more customisable. How about designing the layout of your own house?

But as others have said, the interaction and dialogue woth the animals themselves needs a lot of work to make it a more meaningful place to interact with

Re: Opinion: It's Time To Get Rid Of Fall Damage

carlos82

This is just a very bad take, if anything the fall damage made exploration and combat in BOTW and TOTK way more interesting than it would have been without.

It doesn't necessarily fit every game but for many it makes sense and having a sense of danger when very high up just makes me focus more than I would otherwise. I just don't understand why so many people are against having some consequences for mistakes in games

Re: Digital Foundry Dives Into Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2

carlos82

@Discostew It'll certainly be interesting to see how it handles RT and DLSS when those arrive, especially if it can offset the CPU cost seen on PC.

But we are still looking at a GPU that's 60% of the size of a 3050 and with more extreme power limits. That said with how Nintendo develops their own games, this should still leave room for some nice effects, a new Wave Race with RT reflections on the water?

Re: Digital Foundry Dives Into Cyberpunk 2077 On Switch 2

carlos82

@Discostew PS5 Pro does have dedicated RT hardware and would blow the Switch 2 away in that regard but there is no PS5 Pro patch. We'll see when it comes out but I'd be surprised if it has RT on the Switch version as it appears to be CPU bottlenecked in the footage we've seen and RT will only make that worse

Re: Random: Nintendo Nearly Parked Mario Kart: Double Dash's Dual-Driver Hook

carlos82

I'm so glad they kept it in and I'd love to see a retun to this mechanic, even if just an optional mode in Mario Kart World. The 2 characters and character specific specials, created a nice bit of strategy and utter choas on certain tracks, Baby Park with giant Banana's and Koopa Shells springs to mind.

When this comes to NSO I'll be playing the hell out of it

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Comments On Switch 2's "Hefty" Price Hikes

carlos82

I'm just not that bothered, I bought Mario Kart 8 on Wii U and then again on Switch and its dlc on both platforms, so I spent way more on that game than the retail price of Mario Kart World, let alone the £35 that it's actually cost me.

When I'm now living in a world where a takeaway can easily cost upwards of £40 or when me and the Mrs go out for an evening for £100, a game that I'm going to play for a long time costing an extra £10 just doesn't even register as an issue

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

carlos82

Switch 2 isn't even in the discussion for me, as whilst there are plenty of great games, the overwhelming majority are existing titles simply ported over but Mario Kart World and Fast Fusion both look amazing.

My favourite has to be Gamecube, with Wave Race, Star Wars, Super Monkey Ball and Luigi's Mansion all still looking great and remaining amongst my favourite games

Re: Nintendo Comments On Mario Kart World's Controversial Price

carlos82

All this fuss over it's price and it cost me £35 and might actually be the cheapest Mario Kart I've ever bought.

Whilst i obviously don't want prices to increase, even if this was £100, it'd still be easily worth it for me as a game I'm likely to be playing for many years to come

Re: Steam Deck Sales Business As Usual For Valve During Week Of Switch 2 Reveal

carlos82

I'm excited for Switch 2 but it and the Steamdeck occupy different spaces, despite the form factor similarities and neither will have a significant impact on the others sales. I've considered the Steamdeck many times but it's not for me and not because I own a Switch but because I have a powerful PC and now a Quest 3 and I just don't know when I'd even use it
