I'm about 6 hours in (on PS5) and it's the best 3D Sonic game I've played for a long time, really takes me back to those Adventure style games and is certainly the foundations upon which future titles should be built
New Leaf, Horizons has some good new features but is a bit disappointing overall and it doesn't feel like your little community matters and it leans far to heavily on its crafting
I moved on from it a long time ago, good game but one that sadly added as much as it removed. Hopefully they build upon it for the next entry and perhaps add a real story mode to it amongst other things.
Oh and remove all the nonsense around cloud saves, sharing towns and even local multiplayer
@Moonlessky so Switch is getting the free update then, that makes this review even stranger given his main positives were for content you don't need the paid upgrade for
The thing is fishing and survival mode were a free update on the other platforms, so I'm guessing that's not the case here? I mean if Switch is your only means of playing this then maybe there's some value, though that price is ludicrous. I'm playing it on PC where I can install much better mods for nothing so haven't upgraded
One that's been on my wishlist on Steam for a while, as a fan of this type of game I'm really enjoying having so many of them either returning or new ones being made
Ion Fury was one of the best FPS games of recent times and this looks to be at least as good if not better, overall I'd have to say the Realms Deep showcase is the best I've seen this year, so many great games on the way
I've no problem with these games coming to Switch but they should be budget prices or compilations. There's no reason to be selling them individually at as full prices games but we know Nintendo will do that and thats why I just emulate their older titles.
For balance TLOU is even more ridiculous at £70, especially when the same game is already playable on PS5 at 4K60FPS
@Branovices yeah Switch and I'd say Playstation are the platforms where this makes the most sense, I didn't bother with the upgrade on PC as there's so much I can add anyway
Pretty sure the fishing part was part of a free update for every other platform regardless of whether they got the Anniversary edition. Speaking of which the Switch and Playstation are the only platforms where this version even makes sense as one has no mods and the other may as well have no mods.
I actually recently picked up the Special Edition on Steam and chose my own mods amd Skyrim is still better than most games I've played since it's initial release
This makes no sense whatsoever, regardless of the fact it has Russians in it this is a 25 year old game, it could just as well be they're waiting for the game's own anniversary for all we know
@GrailUK I'm so excited to be getting these, Tempest 2000 is a brilliant game and I can't wait to play the new Yars Revenge and Swirdquest Airworld amongst many others
@NinChocolate it's a 3D platformer and they've shown how he moves and interacts in that 3D environment, how is that a negative? I'd much rather games showed their gameplay as opposed to just showing cutscenes
There's nothing to suggest Nintendo are deliberately withholding content at launch but there is a worrying trend with Nintendo these days. Animal Crossing was pretty bare bones at launch, the Mario Party entries aren't exactly brimming with boards, Switch Sports is missing Golf and has much less content than Wii Sports Resort, Mario Golf and Tennis were also lacking at launch in courses and characters respectively.
Some of these have filled out since, yet I'm now at a point where I'm ignoring these games at launch and waiting until the content is added
I don't get all the fuss of Tails losing rings in Sonic 2's special stages, he only collects the rings you'd miss anyway and I never had a problem getting them with him around.
As for the story mode, it makes sense given they're his games and designed primarily around him
Whilst live service games can be hugely successful, everyone's time is finite so not many of these can be supported and for every Apex there is an Avengers or an Anthem. Not to mention that a large part of their earnings tend to be from a small percentage of the user base who are susceptible to their predatory monetisation
I can't understand that after Wii Sports Resort, the scope of these games seems to have been reigned in quite drastically. Then again this seems to be a worrying trend with Nintendo as Mario Golf and Mario Party have been bery lacklustre compared to previous entries, that and releasing them basically unfinished.
I'll probably wait until golf is added before getting this as it'll still be fun with the family
Sounds awful, just think in a few months you'd have spent as much as on a complete game or how it's almost the same price as Gamepass but just for one game
@UltraZelda64 I tried Sonic 3 last night and it was still bad with very noticable sound delay. I get your point about legally owning the roms but it won't be much of a defence for me to say well I legally own those 3 or 4 roms but the other few thousand I acquired through other means
Lylat Wars is still my favourite in the series but Panzer Dragoon Zwei is the best in the genre. Back to Star Fox specifically and Adventure would be up there, it's only faults being a lack of exploration off the beaten path and mediocre flying sections but I'd love to see another in that mould
@BloodNinja I've long since accepted that none of these companies care about the preservation of their games. Thankfully there are plenty out there who are so I happily download all these old games and play them through the many amazing emulators we have these days.
I've got the likes of Sega Model 2 and 3 arcade stuff, every House of the Dead including Scarlett Dawn and a new lightgun to play them. I have access to every console and their entire libraries and replica controllers for many. I'm playing Mario 64 with the Render 96 pack and ray traced lighting at 60fps whilst Nintendo could only be bothered to add a few new textures and call it a day, soon Ocarina will get the same treatment on PC.
Whether people like it or not, emulation is the only true game preservation as most games will never be released again and the physical versions too few in numbers and too expensive
WATA don't care about video game preservation, sticking them in sealed plastic boxes for some perceived value and never to be played again. They're doing their best to destroy the retro game market.
As for preservation are these old cartridges really failing? I've got 40 year old Atari games which work perfectly fine but nevertheless you can easily find almost every single console and arcade release online and emulation/fpga is the real game preservation. Both are fantastic solutions and on PC I can experience any retro consoles with accurate or improved performance, with a variety of controllers and even a lightgun
@samuelvictor I'm with you, I can't wait to play these and it looks to be an amazing collection. Sonic Jam was a great collection of native ports many years ago and this looks to improve upon that with the new animations, missions etc. Hopefully somewhere down the line they add the 8bit Sonic games or another pack with the likes of Sonic R and Adventure 1 and 2
It's simple but they made it look more complicated, you can only buy 2 versions, the standard or deluxe. The latter gets you everything and the former misses out mainly on some extra music and harder missions, these can be later bought as dlc. I'm just getting the deluxe as it's only £5 different so problem solved
I would love a physical version, it seems like those coins are replacing lives in the modern variations, so still reasons for collecting rings etc. It's looking like a great collection with those animations as well
Yep I'll definitely be picking these up, as only the second time they have received native ports (first for CD). A shame they haven't gone further and included the rather great 8 bit entries and Spinball but it'll be nice to have these together again
I don't see this being true at all, at least not to that degree but this is what happens when you ask a few people and multiply it by everyone. When you see the Switch's best selling games they're not necessarily along the lines of what Activision offer, I own an Xbox but have no interest in Activision
The results are as expected, it largely depends on how well your own TV upscale and this just looks like a sharpening filter. I've run BPTW on an e.ulator at 1440p and it looks significantly better than this for obvious reasons
@PessitheMystic there are some variations in routes and whilst not for everyone I've been replaying the original versions of these and Virtua Cop for about 25 years. Oh and its about £20 on the eshop
Good review, the biggest issue with this game is Nintendo's gyros constantly going out of sync. Still I've enjoyed playing it and I'm looking forward to Panzer Dragoon Zwei and House of The Dead 2 from them
@Astral-Grain I can't really remember to be honest, just this one stuck out to me. I mean it's still doable but it's that lack of care and attention to detail I find puzzling
@Astral-Grain sadly though they messed up FF8 by having the menu's run at the same speed as the battle animations at 16fps, where as on the PS1 these were 60fps, so things like Squall's limit break are harder to pull off

£60 for Skyrim with a few mods attached? What an absolute joke, get it on PC for much less and download vastly superior mods for free
