I did, my main issue with Breath of The Wild was the lack of real dungeons, sure a handful of the shrines were genuinely excellent (most were pants) and the divine beasts were hugely disappointing and sadly TOTK never really rectified that, although at least it had more higher quality shrines
Echoes has a lot of problems but the dungeons at least are fun and well designed from what I've played so far
Sadly for me, Echoes is certainly one of the weaker entries and even amongst the top down games it's not amongst the best. The echo mechanic really needed a bit more thought in how it's implemented as I feel I spend more time navigating a very long bar than actually playing the game at times. Plus limiting what are essentially better controls with the Link form, is just poor game design as far as I'm concerned.
Ocarina and Wind Waker are still my favourites, with A Link to the Past, Minish Cap and Zelda 2 ranking highly
I'm looking forward to this one, so far on Switch we've had Super Mario Party with its dreadful selection of boards, having just 4 and basically all rubbish.
Superstars faired better with higher quality of boards but really should have had a few more, especially as they're remakes.
Now this one looks to have a good amount and interesting looking boards and might finally stop me regularly playing the Gamecube games
Around an 8 at the moment, making direct combat so limited isn't a great decision and it would have been better with traditional Zelda combat and summoning echoes, as some times I feel I'm just stood there as the game plays itself.
Then the echoes themselves really need some from of curation as it just becomes an unwieldly mess navigating that bar when most of them are useless anyway.
That said the game looks great, is very charming and the dungeons are really fun to explore and the bed becomes your best friend
These days I largely ignore most longer games, partly because I don't have as much time anymore but also because most of them have a lot of filler content to pad them out
It certainly takes heavy inspiration from a few of Nintendo's games and specifically a few Mario games but why wouldn't you learn from the best?
I've just got the platinum on Astro Bot and see it as a celebration of gaming, whether that be PlayStation's history, the many cameo's from different publishers and Nintendo's influence on gaming.
I'm looking forward to this, the first Mario Party on Switch has a dreadful selection of boards so I quickly got rid of that one. The next one had good boards but not enough considering they were just remakes, still fun though but finally this looks to have both good quality and a nice number of boards
This all just seems like an awful waste of resources, all that time and electricity wasted just for it not actually be able to fully replicate a near 40 year old video game
OK this now looks incredible, BOTW esque puzzle solving mixed with Link's Awakening visuals and a return to real dungeons, all with a creepy underworld that looks interesting to explore, count me in
Not having take an age to load anything would be nice but yeah it needs all of the above as it's a pretty miserable experience at the moment.
Granted the Wii Shop had way less games but it was a significantly better experience than the mess that's the eshop, so much so that I barely ever browse it.
That said, a shopping basket is a top priority then they need to curate or control what games are on sale and sort out the home page so that it can't be abused by trash games
Can they just shut this place down already, it was the worst video game store when we had multiple to choose from and it's still the worst way to buy games even being the only store left. Not that it's actually a store now but a kiosk in a dreadful clothes store that also sells terrible sports equipment
I'd love for it to be a horror game from Nintendo, Eternal Darkness was great and it'd be cool to see them do something different and this is a fantastic way to get people's attention
When you look at their big franchises they haven't done too badly compared to past generations, granted this is the first without its own Mario Kart, but did get a 3D Mario plus a small 3D Mario game, it's about to have a second unique Zelda plus a shared one, a Yoshi game, Kirby and a couple of massive Xenoblade games amongst more
They've even utilised the Wii U library on Switch but this is going to be a bit more difficult to maintain for the Switch 2, though they still have Wind Waker and Twilight Princess up their sleeves.
It's going to be interesting to see if they can maintain their output and how far away the next 3D Mario and Zelda games are and fingers crossed a new Mario Kart isn't too far away
I've never been worried about going back to an older game and I'm also struggling to think of one that I didn't enjoy returning to. I've replayed the likes of Goldeneye, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and still think they're wonderful to play and if anything I much prefer to revisit older games than play many modern ones
@FoxyDude I gave this a 7 but agree with pretty much everything you said. The mission style gameplay really interupts the flow and the shiny ghosts don't look as good as those in the first game
Probably a 7, it's a good remaster that improves the visuals smartly and the only negatives being the design choices of the 3DS original. I'm enjoying replaying it
@WaveBoy with current controllers I agree but you can play it on PC just fine with a modern lightgun, it's just a shame the console manufacturers won't adopt the technology
@Paulo there are some great light gun games on Wii but it was never as good as using a real light gun, still fun and far better than the Switch though.
@AtlanteanMan VR is a great way to play such games but I wish console manufacturers would look at the Sinden Lightgun (which works brilliantly on modern displays) as a way to bring these games back
I picked this up for £40 and I'm actually pleasantly surprised how good it looks on the TV and they've done a good job updating the visuals. It's certainly my least favourite of the trilogy but still a game I really enjoy. Sure if you have the 3DS version there is little reason to get this unless you really want to play it on the TV but if you're new to the franchise then this is the best way to play it
I've preordered the Japanese version of this as it was just £15 more and if rather have a pair of the Famicom controllers than an empty gold cartridge
Realistically I'd never be playing this in multiplayer anyway, so of the single player is good then that's what counts. Just a shame Sega seemingly don't know how to accurately recreate the feel of those original games
None really, I'd much rather see them make another Zelda game in that style and it could simply be mixed with the creative side, perhaps it is in the new game, we're assuming much based on a short trailer.
Even TOTK does it to an extent by limiting how much you can use Zonai devices initially as well as the type of devices, so you still have the progression the series has always being built upon. In the new game it certainly looks like you could well be limited where you can explore or tackle until you've learned certain echoes
It's weird how the best N64 emulator Nintendo had was back in the Wii and hopefully these issues get fixed. I tried this myself and it's a shame they don't bother adjusting the sensitivity for their (inferior) modern analogue sticks. It's borderline unplayable with the joy cons and even the N64 controller doesn't fully correct the issue
This game looks stunning and whilst I'm not entirely sure how I'm gonna feel about the lack of a sword, I am very much looking forward to playing this game
The game is called Metroid Prime 4, what did people think it was going to be like? The game looks great and since when was a game playing like Metroid Prime a bad thing? I swear some people like to moan about anything these days, like that dreadful take shared from Twitter, if you don't want to play Metroid Prime, then don't buy a game called Metroid Prime. From what we saw, I'm very excited to play it and can't wait until next year to do so
It looks like they've learnt from the last 2 games with their lack of (or just poor) boards and this looks to have the best selection, plus quite a few other modes, I'm looking forward to this
Wouldn't it make more sense to have an enemy that's studied Samus so that her arsenal is less effective against them, so she has to find new enhancements and technologies to tackle them? I'd rather this than the standard story of her armour just breaks but miraculously exact replacements are found on nearby planets anyway
I love this game and still regularly play it on my PC with the Sinden Lightgun and it's great to see a few others here have one too. Sadly that experience cannot be replicated on consoles at the moment but I'll still buy it anyway
@obijuankanoobie the original is still my favourite, it was a good length and had great replayability with the PAL version and it's mirrored mansion and even the standard ghosts look so much better than the shiny things we got later.
I really like 3 as well and it had some great portrait ghosts like the film director but that cat ghost you have to chase is beyond tedious and I wish we spent more time on the pirate themed floor and and less on some of the others
The original Luigi's Mansion was one of my favourite Gamecube games and Luigi's Mansion 3 one of my favourites on Switch but sadly this was never as good as either. The lack of portrait ghosts and the mission structure are the biggest culprits.
Nintendo's pricing is also all over the place, Metroid Prime Remastered was a budget release, yet this is a full price release and costs as much as Luigi's Mansion 3 did
It'd be nice if they offered purchases for NSO games rather than lock them behind a subscription oh and maybe we'd have a better relationship if they didn't just shut down games like Mario 99 for no reason
@Anti-Matter you realise you don't have to buy or download mods that you don't want to? You can't just say all of something is bad because their is one small element you don't agree with
