Re: Review: Arcade Archives Star Force (Switch eShop)

Loved it as a kid, used to play it during my Summers at White Cross Bay caravan park in the Lake District. They had the volume up loud on the cabinet so it used to really get the blood pumping. Excitedly downloaded it on the Wii a few years ago but it aged badly

Re: Kimishima Talks Nintendo’s 3DS Strategy Going Forward

YorkshireNed

I hear people complaining about the idea of Nintendo not developing new games for the system but...suppose nothing new for the 3DS games ever came out again after today. How long would it take you to catch up on every game rated 7/10 or more? I bought it at launch and I've run up such playtime but I've never been able to keep up with that library!

Re: Double Dragon Is Coming To The Switch This Week

YorkshireNed

As a kid, there was nothing more exciting than dropping 10p in a coin-op for two minutes intense gaming with sound and graphics far in excess of anything home computing could offer. Taken out of time and context, a lot of these titles just aren't the same at home.

Re: Pokémon GO Is Dropping Support For Older iPhones

YorkshireNed

I can see how upsetting this must be for fans with those phones but neither the app's developers or even Apple are to blame. These last five years have seen drastic changes in smart phone tech and for Pokemon Go to survive, it has to follow the times.

What I would suggest is getting a cheap iPhone 6 online. With a little patience, you can get one at the right price.

Re: Feature: Rare's Local Game Shop Faces An Uncertain Future, Like Many Indie Retailers

YorkshireNed

Wow, I never knew Ultimate evolved into Rare. A very moving article, not a single one of the stores I bought games from as a kid are still in business (except for Boots the Chemist). I remember West Yorkshire was full of cool little game shops in the most unexpected places sometimes (I remember finding one in the ground floor of a block of council flats near Cleckheaton). I would love to see the games market mirror the music market with some sort of revival but I really don't know how that would happen.

Re: Review: Stern Pinball Arcade (Switch eShop)

YorkshireNed

@frogopus I think I've played both on other formats too. I have a Marvel pinball set on my 3DS which I'm sure is Zen and on my PS4 I have a stunningly accurate rendition of the Doctor Who pinball table which feels like Stern. If that's the case, I'm definitely Stern all the way and hope they bring the Twilight Zone table to the Switch.

I mainly play my Switch docked and I've not felt any urge to play either of the pinball games undocked.

Re: Review: Stern Pinball Arcade (Switch eShop)

YorkshireNed

I played the Frankenstein table and I love it. Really, I find the other Switch pinball game annoying with too many distracting animations and some very annoying original concepts (all the voicework on Sorceror's Lair suck). If you like pinball then this is the one.

Re: Hands On: Watching Hulu on the Nintendo Switch

YorkshireNed

Every TV and blu-ray player made in the last 5 years has all the streaming apps built into them so people crying that the Switch doesn't have streaming apps need to wake up. A second hand blu-ray player costs about the same as an indie game on eshop and, incidentally, them blu-rays drop a soft one on streaming quality and your blu-ray library doesn't suddenly remove films forever unless you have a thief in the house..

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to Get Japanese Voiceover Option in Free Launch DLC

YorkshireNed

I'll use the Japanese one if they have Americans dubbing the game but if its an English cast, I'll stick with it. Genuine English accents seem more authentic in RPGs but faux-English (I'm looking at you Zelda) is a spell-breaker for me. Obviously, games set in America are great with American casts, but fantasy RPGs with American actors doing English accents make me turn the sound off

Re: Thumper Gets a 25% Discount on the Switch eShop

YorkshireNed

Its a belter but you do need either good headphones for handheld or a good sound system for docked as the soundtrack is a key part of the game and has lots of deep, low-end bass and beats.

Those wanting to know how it plays, you are moving very fast on a rail. You have to turn on corners and hit the button on the lot parts of the rail. This is all done in time to the music so even someone like me who sucks at games like Rock Band can do it.

Guaranteed to get the heart pumping
