Bandai Namco has revealed that Dark Souls: Remastered on Switch has been delayed until the summer, along with the special Solaire amiibo.
The May 25th release date still applies to the other versions, however. It would seem that whatever issue has occurred, it only impacts the Switch edition.
With no solid release date being confirmed, we could potentially see quite a lengthy delay for this one. Hopefully it's not so serious that we have to wait several months before we get to play Dark Souls on the move.
Did you have this one pencilled into your May schedule? How do you feel about the delay? Let us know with a comment.

I beg your pardon?? It's almost a month away, and it gets delayed??
That's disappointing to hear and I fear it may put off some people on the fence between getting the Switch over the other consoles.
sigh
It never ends.
My birthday is ruined!
Either the Switch is harder for them to program or the Switch cartridges are causing delays since they have to go through Nintendo. Sounds like the NES era all over again.
The actual f***
That's disappointing, I've found it a bit quiet with big compelling Switch releases lately so this was a big one to look forward to.
Oh come on. Ridiculous.
That sucks. But considering the slew of Switch games I'm getting around then and in June my wallet is kinda relieved.
This sort of nonsense will never not be annoying.
What???? Man this sucks. It was only a month away, what could be the problem?
Switch was updated to be too stable. Now the dying doesn't work.
We ALMOST had a day and date big third party release guys! It was ALMOST there!
Ah well. Doesn't bother me too much tbh. I'll get it when it comes out. Glad they aren't going the 2K route. Release buggy now, patch later (if ever)
I'm not mad I'm just disappointed.
Does that still mean Australia is still getting the am I Ibo only via eBay? I'll except a delay if I can actually get it in stores
Awwww...
I'll still wait for the Switch version but...Awwww...
Ugh!
Good, now I can play trough Demon's Souls and then find this game easy.
I’m not ripping my hair out, these things happen, but it would be nice to know why.
HA HA HA, what a suprise NOT
Though I wasn't going to buy it I'm still disappointed for everyone else. Once the first half of the year is complete all we'll have to show for it is an easy Kirby game & Labo. Guess the kiddies will be happy though.
I envy people with a PS. Picking up God of War would tide me over for awhile.
Who else is surprised? crickets
Cya

This delay is all the more surprising given numerous publications have gone hands-on with the Switch version and come away with the impression that the current build ran perfectly well.
Expect a ton of pre-orders to be cancelled and for the perception of the Switch to suffer. Thanks a bloody lot Bandai Namco and From Software.
Despair ahead.
Oh come on for [removed] sake... Sorry for the language but it's honestly necessary at this point. Everything is getting bloody delayed nowadays... I mean I've always quadrupledipped on the game back in the day, but still.
Wow, I'm not sure this is going to help them with sales. They were scheduled to release prior to E3, not it's looking like post E3. I think that's a mistake or a missed opportunity at the least. I was going to buy it since I've never played it, but if I see something I like better revealed at E3, then I will be more likely to save my money.
@admwllms Same.
Though I know a lot of that probably had to do with Fiscal Year 2017 only actually ending in March 2018 it's certainly been a... slow start?
Though I did enjoy Dragon Quest Builders a lot.
I do hope that Gamestop's CEO's comment that the Switch actually has a strong 2018 ahead of itself "in no small part in the form of current unannounced games" does solidify itself with a lots of solid E3 announcement(though I do have feelings it indeed will be the case).
There's certainly at least Octopath Traveller to look forward to in July which shouldn't get delayed considering it's built with being a Switch exclusive in the first place and has less worries about issues of porting stuff to a different engine.
Cool! To many launches in May and June, probably I would skip this game since I could not buy all of them.
Switch pre-order canned. PS4 version it is.
Bummed! Never played this one and have been hyped. The wife and kid leave town for a week during the summer. Was planning on this being my binge game. Will have to see...
?
I might just pick up the PS3 GotY version instead.
I wonder what the actual reason is.
Over at Nintendo Everything, it was reported that NamcoBandai, via twitter offered this lame excerpt:
"The Nintendo Switch version of #DarkSoulsRemastered will be pushed back to Summer 2018, as well as the Solaire of Astora amiibo. We apologise for the delay but rest assured, the extra time will improve your journey to Lordran.
PC/PS4/X1 versions is still coming 25th May 2018"
This is bittersweet for me... I’m relieved because I have like 5 games preordered for May so my wallet was sweating bullets but also this is one of those 5 I really wanted. Oh well.
@Ludovsky yeah definitely. I loved Dragon Quest Builders and, don't get me wrong, still have a bit of a backlog to catch up on, but after the shock and awe of last year's releases it's a little underwhelming.
Still, as you say, can't wait for Octopath Traveler, that's my most anticipated release of 2018 so far – and roll on E3!
Woohoo! I'll get to complain about Amazon's delivery being late! Never happened since I move to the UK. I miss complaining about things
It’s unfortunate, but at least I will have some time to catch up on my backlog of other games.
Getting the PS4 version now. This isn't really the type of game you can easily play on the go anyways - too much attention and exact control required.
That sucks but I'm only getting the switch version. I can wait.
Yeah, what the hell.
This is gonna knock the perception of the system in a lot of peoples eyes. That it cant run "Real games".
Already seeing it in replies to Gamespot tweets...so this'll be fun.
Yikes. Was an easy Switch purchase for me, now it'll have to be PS4. This is pretty much the worst-case scenario for a delay - losing sales it had in the bag for good.
Wow, after all this time? Good thing I plan to get it on PS4.
That's some major bullcrap! One month before launch, the Switch version gets suddenly delayed, despite running perfectly fine on Nintendo's console.
Ouch. Nintendo were giving this one a bit of a push as well (Amiibo, Direct Mini launch, front of the UK Online store). Switch version sales will be badly impacted by this
Wow, that's quite a bummer. This was alongside Okami and Mario Tennis as my most-anticipated Switch release announced for 2018, so the news is disappointing. Such is life, though. Better that they release a version without any serious issues.
It’s disapointing if you were getting it on switch
Meh. I'll survive.
Good for me, next 2 months were looking quite expensive so this has eased pressure on the money zone. Was actually close to delaying purchasing this anyways.
well, I'm getting it on the ps4 too
so not a big deal I guess
That's more time to finish the games I have but I am still saddened. I would still rather have it running as good as possible than have another WWE on our hands.
Thing is by the time this comes to Switch it’ll be near enough half price on PS4/XB1.
Guess I’ll decide then.
It’s odd that they only just delayed it though.
My wallet sighs in relief, yet my heart mourns.
I'm actually ok with this. The end of May was a log-jam of releases anyways so this works out with one less game having to worry about buying at that time.
@YummyHappyPills That makes no sense at all. How does a delay of a 2011 remaster prove switch can't run real games? Also don't be surprised with those tweets as gamespot is often populated by anti Nintendo trolls
I don’t know about you guys but I’m personally at a place where I’m barely playing my switch as I’ve played what I like and now there’s nothing left intresting me. Dark souls was my next buy as I’ve played hyrule warriors and the other games are just more fun experiences rather then deep meaty games. That’s what I want something I can put many hours into with an engaging story or gameplay. I mean I’m currently playing monster hunter freedom unite on my iPad and I’ve clocked in over a 120 hours, the last games I did that on were Zelda and skyrim and I’m done with those for a good while now. Very disappointed 😔
@Fight_Teza_Fight That's what's confusing.
Nintendo announces it. May 25th. Shows it off in a Direct. May 25th.
Has it playable at PAX East last week. May 25th.
Today, Bandai announces a delay with no reason.
Did we miss something?
The first half of this year has been so slooooooow and now I don’t have this to look forward to in May. Very lame, but oh well.
@YummyHappyPills Might have been a snag in cartridge manufacturing or perhaps a need for more optimization perhaps
It's irritating, but also a bit of a relief. I'm picking up South Park next week, and I still have to finish Golf Story, Thimbleweed Park, and I would like to FINALLY jump into Dragon Quest VIII, and the new God of War.
My birthday, 24th May, present to myself is ruined - "slams Switch on the ground".
In all seriousness, I'd rather have a delayed working release than a buggy on-time release with a huge day one patch making a retail purchase pointless.
Damn, was looking forward. Was going to sell ps4 for this summer and stay with switch. But now looks like i m parting my ways with switch... sad as hell but last game was xenoblade for me and next interesting this year was only this.
@YummyHappyPills Who knows?Seems strange. You’d think Nintendo as the publisher would be first to announce the delay.
Well, that means that I’ll have more time to finish on my other games.
@dkxcalibur Like the rumoured Tenchu revival?
@Fight_Teza_Fight Nintendo is only publisher in Europe (For retail) it seems.
But yeah, this is....yep. Get used to this I guess. Can't be excited about a third party release on a Nintendo system people, it just leads to disappointment.
Rats.
@YummyHappyPills
No joke. It's one delay after another.
I also don't have any reason to believe it will be released in "summer" either.
I don't want to wait, planning on picking up the Ps4 version.
Kind of pissed, this was the one switch game I had on pre-order that I was looking forward to playing on my switch again, this is getting ridiculous for a system that is supposed to be easy to port to, sure keep on seeing lots of troubles arising each time. I'm considering cancelling my pre-order depending on on when this comes out I may be playing something else, end of May was going to be a good time to play this for my switch. Now there's definitely 1 less thing to look forward to between here and E3...
Welp. Guess that cements my purchase on PS4. I was on the fence, but I’d rather get it during the time when I’ll be on break.
Dang, was getting three copies for me and my two sons for Summer Break.
I am upset.
Not sure why anyone would buy this version over any other because "muh portability!!1!eleventyone!1!" isn't a valid excuse for the state of this version.
Just another game that will be destroyed by sales on other platforms and RIP 3rd party some more.
That's just it, isn't it? The delays are going to hurt Switch sales, which will prompt the developers to blame the system for the weak sales, and ultimately abandon it. People are not going to double-dip for portability.
Sounds like either a cart manufacturing issue or a networking issue
Ya know what, I'm actually sick of these delays. Same old story really.
I'll stick with PS4 and PC for 3rd party from here on out, much like I did with the WiiU and Wii.
Hardly take the Switch out of the dock anyway so might as well get the better version on its proper release at a lesser price on PS4.
I can only support Nintendo with delayed games for so long. Wasting my money. Southpark will be bought this month for another system, but at a much cheaper price than it is on Switch.
Done.
@IceClimbers It's a performance issue
At least there’s labo if it doesn’t get delayed too
@1UP_MARIO
Lol
I’m disappointed, but I still have a backlog of nearly 20 games on Switch to play
@1UP_MARIO double lol! Labo shakes head. Feels like that was announced a year ago and it's been delayed.
Look on the bright side, at least there'll be another game to look forward to at E3 this year.
i'll just get the PC version, thanks.
Well, more time on my Steam library then.
My guess is I'll be too busy with Octopath Traveler and Ys VIII to play this when it comes out.
I am quite disappointed, this was the next big game for me.
Noooooooo!
NB4 Bamco and From Software are "disappointed" by Switch sales.
Doesn't really matter... you will NEVER get an amiibo anyway since it is gamestop exclusive.... GRRR.....
Maybe they couldn't make enough amiibo in time
Luckily enough it was one of the few "big" names I had little interest in. Still, this is really sad news...
Am I mad? Sure. But being mad about it isn't going to make the game release any faster. I'll just replay Dark Souls on my PS3 while I wait....who am I kidding, I'll still be playing Breath of the Wild.
Namco Bandai being an utter disappointment as usual...
Get a grip, it's just delayed by a couple of months - y'all acting like it's run off with your mother.
One one hand my finances are a bit low so this helps me out personally but delays are never good for public perception even when they are needed. Nintendo is still having to prove that the Switch is not another Wii U.
The only reason I was waiting for the remaster was for the portability on the Switch. I'll be real my PS4 Pro at the current moment is a piece of junk that sits with no purpose in its box. I dont play on it at home - I much prefer my PC, superior graphics and library, etc.
I just finished Dark Souls and planning to NG+ it and honestly even with that in mind these news make me angry. I can't even begin how utterly suspicious it is given the good reactions to the game's healthy optimized state on the Switch. I was gonna purchase it day one for the $70 it would be here in Australia, instead I'm not giving them a dollar. Thats one sale lost from me and I'm sure tens of thousands lost from others.
Good going.
At this point, im numb to the news of 50% of games always being late on Switch. It is what it is: A secondary console.
@gcunit But it's clearly the end of the Switch. In five years from now, when NintendoLife is closing because Nintendo went bankrupt, we'll be looking back to this very day and wonder why it had to go this way.
@Menchi187 because most of us are busy people who travel a lot or simply just cant stay at home long enough to play on a console.
@Menchi187 We have footage of Blighttown, the most notoriously bad area in the game, running at a solid 30 frames. Performance isn't the issue.
@CapitanFalcon [removed]. I have no problem finding gaming time and having a social life on top of my 36 hour education week and 28 hour work week.
@Indielink "Improve your journey" sounds like performance to me. There is also footage of the game dropping to low 20s with effects happen.
Many companies would release it broken and patch it later so I respect their decision
@GraveLordXD You said it yourself, 30fps, why would anyone chose it.
@readyletsgo
Well done. Most people have another system for third-party games.
I wouldn't mind so much if they gave us another actual release date rather than just summer. I was really looking forward to this game's release even if I wasnt going to be a day one adopter.
Why does this happen so often with Switch games? I haven't super minded until now really. I was very excited for this release and wasn't really planning on getting any other games until it came out.
I was used to be a big gamer: 6-7 hours playtime per session when I was a lonely child, and a teenager with a lot of time to spend.
Then, unfortunately, life hit me.
52 hours working week, I enrolled back to Uni, wife and spare time together. Something I chose to do, something I did not, but still, trying at your best, you know.
I almost forgot about gaming until switch came out.
Doesn't take the ridiculous amount of time of a ps4 to load and start a game: turn it on, press a button and play. It does fit well to my lifestyle, this can be said for a lot of other "young" adults as well.
I'll wait for the switch one even if I own a ps4.
Gaming on the go, no stress, whenever I start my Ps4 I get depressed for how clunky looks compared to the switch.
No criticism eh, I love Ps4 library, it's just not for me anymore.
Ah that sucks.
Well, I'll get it whenever it comes. What I definitely won't be doing, however, is succumbing to buying a version I don't really want out of impatience.
Guess I'll take some of those planned May backlog games and follow up DKC with Hyrule Warriors and Blazblue instead.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... for God's sake!!! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Look, as long as Gal Gun 2 comes out on time, I'm fine. It'll hold me over.
@JaxonH "What I definitely won't be doing, however, is succumbing to buying a version I don't really want out of impatience."
Unfortunately for Nintendo, this line of thinking is not widely adopted.
I think it's being delayed to work with Nintendo's new online infrastructure that is coming in September.
Gives me more time to play God of War, hyrule warriors and DKC Tropical freeze
I'm not really one for Dark Souls, but my brother was really disappointed about this. The worst part is that other consoles are still getting it in May. It's all a big mess if you ask me...
%*#! Is all I have to say. Not impressed. This has better not be a long wait.
This is so disappointing but better to delay it than releasing the game before it’s ready.
This probably lost a sale on me. The original date was right in a dead zone and before a trip so I was gonna be all over that but when it comes out later, I will likely be playing too many other games. Bummer.
@gatorboi352
No I don't think it is.
But I don't think it's unfortunate for Nintendo, since it's not even their game.
If anything it bolsters Bandai Namco' s sales via people who will double dip (and that may be an intentional tactic)
I'm sure they'll blame the players for the poor sales of this now and never release anything on switch again.
@Kai_
Don't be so sure.
Dark Souls on Switch has been placing higher in Amazon sales charts since it was added to the site, months ago
There's very strong demand for this game on Switch. Was outpacing the Xbox One version 10:1 and even the PS4 version 2:1 (those ratios may change now given the delay).
I think it could actually be a result of Switch sucking up sales from the other versions. By delaying, people give in and buy both.
That's just speculation of course. We don't know for sure. Could just be the game needed a bit more work on Switch.
But either way this game is gonna sell on Switch. Maybe slightly less not being day and date, but the real reason people want to buy this game again is to have a portable HD hybrid version. Of the people who buy another version in the meantime, a whole lot will double dip. They might say they won't, but once it drops that mindset will change.
Bandai Namco has actually been seeing really strong sales on Switch. No need for the "Wii U paranoia" of years past. They specifically stated they regret not foreseeing the Switch's appeal sooner. Their games are selling really well on Switch.
I’m sad, but if it means the game will come out better i’m all in
Is it just me, or did a lot of people forget this is an old game? I played it when it came out on my 360. If you never played it, even after all these years, what's the big deal if you wait a few months more?
If you have played it already, why get so upset about not being able to play an older game you already played? Play something else. All the abandon Switch sentiment is extreme. It's a port. Go 100% BOTW, Xenoblade 2, or Mario Odyssey. Those are fairly new. Enjoy free online play of Splatoon 2, Arms, Rocket League, etc., while it's still free.
On a sidenote: why is anyone in a rush to pay full price (or very close to it) for games (especially an older port)? The same games will be on sale just a few months after release. The only full price game I've purchased for Switch has been BOTW, and that was only because I wanted something to play at launch. I've bought Odyssey, Rabbids, 2K18, Gunvolt, and others brand new for way less than full price and I'm still enjoying them immensely. Lots of great deals to be had if you just hold off a bit.
Oh well? That’s a relief on my wallet actually, there’s other games I want in May and I have to budget one game a month right now, there’s less coming out that I care about later in the summer. And yeah, I know I could’ve waited anyways but now I can still get the Amazon preorder discount.
NOOO!!! And I had both it and Solaire pre- ordered as well ...
@Huracan fear of missing out is real. For me personally I like playing a game at launch while there is still a lot of hype surrounding it. It’s more fun for me to be a part of the conversation rather than on the sidelines waiting for a sale. But to each their own, because there is nothing wrong with waiting a little longer to play the same game for less money.
@PuppyToucher That's a valid point. I actually was really close to getting Arms and Splatoon at launch. I was really excited for them. But here I am, months later, and I'm still having a blast online with them. Sure, I'm not as good/familiar with the game as everyone who started at launch but there are plenty of players of my skill level and plenty of fun to be had.
Also, my backlog, like many others, is serious. So many games I haven't finished or even started will keep me busy as I wait.
@Pizzapasta
This makes a lot of sense. I was thinking it would be great to play the game online for free over the summer then decide if the paid subscription was worth it. Now with it coming out closer to the online paid service they will force a lot more people to pay for it if they want to play dark souls online. Pretty sneaky of true. I'm still not sure how the subscription will go down, it must be the first console to suddenly charge people to play online after it was free for over a year. I feel that you should still be able to play games like splatoon online for free, Nintendo might be a bit shocked by the number of people who just stop playing online games cause they don't like paying a subscription.
Or.. a positive outlook... It could be because they've found a way to get it running at a higher/smoother framerate and needed a little more time. A solid complete version of the game on a Nintendo cart is the most important thing for me, so as long as we get that I don't really care when it comes out.
Really unhappy about this. The day after it was meant to release I'm on a long flight and planned on playing it then, this sucks so bad😔
Delays are fine, but when it's just one version that is delayed that shows they haven't put much effort in to that particular version.
Nah, I was getting this on PS4 anyhow.
I heard through the grapevine that they're doing it on purpose to punish Nintendo because they wouldn't cover the cost of cartridges, so their profit on Switch will be slimmer than on the other versions. You heard it here first. I'm not some random guy on the internet. I insist on my credibility. Believe me.
What? They're having trouble porting a game that ran horribly on last gen consoles to a console with the same relative amount of power? No way!
I am going to jump on the delay train. Remember when devs said it was really easy to develop for? Which I my mind meant it was easy to port...NOPE. Sure they get it running but more time is spent on optimization. Which is fine but what happens when that time takes months? I like indies as much as the next guy but I want another big game to sink my time into. Nothing but delays. Our third party support will only be old games.
Outside of the first party this was the biggest release for switch this spring and now its delayed. We aren't going to get a prominent 3rd party title till crash bandicoot or octopath whichever is first
@GraveLordXD
It just boils down to actually not having as much as my life as they say, being a hater or just an overzealous ffanboy of another system, or just a plain effing troll. It's not even that hard to figure out for real.
@admwllms To be honest, I think a lot of last year's shock an awe was because the console also released during the exact period we're having this slump this year. They wanted to have all the biggest punch but it didn't mean all the great stuff would otherwise come out at the same time of the year.
I do get the feeling that if this year is to have any "shock and awe", it'll be awaiting us at E3 and be something going from summer to the holidays with paced released scheduled for the rest of Fiscal Year 2018, at least until the start of January.
If that happens, I perhaps predit another January-March slump before the pace will again pick up with the start of a new fiscal year and confirm itself in the following E3. Especially if this year's E3 can turn things from slump to proper shock and awe again.
I'd make the joking suggestion that it might be the point to "starve" Switch player before opening the floodgates again but then again I know already full well that game development cycles are so long 2018 is just the result of other devs still trying to scramble to the success of the Switch that nobody expected. If E3 is as successful as planned, it may well be the result of that "shifting of gear" finally completing itself as studios reorient themselves to a strategy of having Switch port ready or finally ditching the 3DS to the already confirmed successful Switch.
In fact, I daresay that the true turning point that will likely confirm the Switch as a durable success will be once jRPG studios who previously exclusively developed games for the 3DS finish completing their transition to being "Switch Ready". The fact we still had many 3DS-exclusive jRPGs this year is probably a show that even a lot of these studios were caught offguard by a success they didn't expect to happen and likely haven't had the time to change their development plans to reflect that.
@electrolite77 @Menchi187 Don't try to insult other people while you're having a good time here!
Well sure that is disappointing for some - at least it has a "summer" date so not open ended like DQ. So that is a plus.
May for me is Yakuza 6 (PS4 - home) + Battlechasers (Switch - commute) so not a big deal.
I waited for Battle Chasers on Switch for months - it just makes it batter when you finally get it.
Be glad that they are working on it instead releasing too early. Ys 8 just got released on PC with delay of 6/7 months and it still has problems. I prefer to wait a bit longer and getting the job done instead a game that's not completely ready to be released. Switch is just different system than the other ones
I feel sad by the delay but its ok. The game will be better.
HAHAHA
From what I have heard, Virtuous, the developer behind the Switch port of Dark Souls Remastered (and LA Noire), has moved on to a new project, so if this game was delayed for a tech reason, then it must have been incredibly last-minute. The game ran fine at PAX. Not "4K 60 FPS fine", but it reached its 1080p 30 FPS target.
I don't really care about Dark Souls, but sucks for those who wanted portable Souls day-and-date with the other versions.
This just might actually be on Nintendo's shoulder to some degree.
Nintendo are notorious for long approval times, and cartridge manufacturing could be a very expensive endeavor to put in motion without having the final approval.
But yes. This really should all have been taken care of.
If it was because of issues with Cardridges, wouldn’t they just delay the physical release and still release on eShop?
Maybe Namco have been slipped a back hander to delay the release
Definitely sucks, but nothing to freak out over, Switch version is still coming. There is a positive to this; with all the Switch games coming in May, June and July, at least this delay gives some breathing room.
I'm pissed to be honest. Hope it's not a long delay.
And at least they didn't delay it the day before release like Manticore did.
Paid for by Sony
Has anyone thought that maybe the problem isn't with Bandai Namco maybe the problem is with Nintendo. Nintendo might just be holding the game back there selfs to account for the 2018 financial year, or maybe they are holding it back because of the Amiibo or something to do with the cartridges. Anyway was never going to pickup the switch version to start with so doesn't really matter to me.
@Menchi187 it was always obvious you're still in 5th grade. Thanks for finally confirming it
@westman98
"I don't really care about Dark Souls, but sucks for those who wanted portable Souls day-and-date with the other versions"
I'm not bothered either. I was maybe going to give the Switch version a try because of the portability, I still might do when it comes out. But I've got Bloodborne sat on my PS4 Pro HDD and no interest in playing it so I doubt even the magic of portability will squeeze a sale out of me. These type of games just don't seem to be something that appeals to me.
@YummyHappyPills
blame Nintendo.
they would still be boned even if they released the triplet in the slow PC space (ps4/xb) but at least these games would come out at the same time.
sure no one would still buy the thing (gc anyone) but some folks would be happier to get the 3 3rd party games at the same time until they all bail on N anyway for being a terrible company.
I'm surprised it took over 100 comments for people to start blaming this on Nintendo.
The Switch version probably needs more polish, despite it looking great at PAX. Why would there be a cartridge problem when there hasn't been before? If there were problems with amiibo production, why not just resupply post launch? This has got to be just the game needing some fine tuning...Why Namco waited to this long to announce the delay is odd though.
@FragRed This is great news for me, I can now afford to get it if it doesn't come out in May.
@Pizzapasta
Yep, thats what I was thinking as well.
This is annoying, but I don't mind it if they fix issues. Don't want to play another game that runs like W2k18
I guess Sony got nervous and bought off Bandai Namco to delay the Switch version.
What!!? Are they gonna tell us when it’s delayed till?
A friend of mine works at a QA Testing firm, and apparently Dark Souls Remastered failed Nintendo's certification specifications. Apparently, the issue revolves around how the software was handling going into standby, sleep mode, and the Home Menu when the software was in operation. From what I hear, you have to wait 60 days again before you can resubmit for certification with the changes applied for approval.
Would rather see The Witcher 3 on Switch over Dark Souls though.. Would pre-order on an instant!
the double dipper delay
@Miikko
If that's the case, don't worry that Nintendo's going to make it as easy as possible for them to get it on shelves quickly : N knows having the game delayed only on Switch doesn't look good !
Well, Switch sales will likely get hurt. Depends on the delay but I may grab this for Xbox One now. I was looking forward to playing it. I'll wait and see.
It must be politics there... either they want to push sales for Sony or Xbox version.... or they found a game breaking bug
The game has been available on Steam for years to run on moderate PC's, for about $7.50 on various sales you can find every couple weeks on different websites.
I don't see why people care so much about it being on 'their' console. Third parties obviously have not given a crap about Nintendo systems for several generations unless they have Nintendo subsidizing something for them. Otherwise this version wouldn't have been outsourced in the first place.
There's plenty of first party games out there, games like this can safely be ignored.
Bull spit
Just gives me more time for Hyrule Warriors... again
Bandai Namco: "If we delay the Switch version, people will double dip and we'll get double the money!"
Bandai Namco, several months later: "Switch sales of Dark Souls were terrible! We're not releasing any more games for it."
Maybe it has to do with amiibo?
@electrolite77 'Well done. Most people have another system for third-party games'
Now, if only Nintendo could figure that out.
This is BS. I am so sick of these companies doing this. It's deliberate. Companies don't like having to put the extra effort into a Switch version, to they screw it up, or delay it to push people to buy other versions of the game - then when sales of their games on Nintendo platforms drop they can put the blame either on Nintendo or Nintendo fans for not buying their games.
Lose-lose for Switch owners.
blame namco on this one.
So, I basically get to save my money til later? Ok... cool.
i got a feeling namco did this on purpose to keep switch version from stealing sales from the other console versions.
Disappointing for sure but let's not forget the cautionary tale that is WWE2K18 for Switch.
Better to delay and release something that works as you intended over something that doesn't and ends up looking like a cash grab.
@Camilla but isn't the goal to have more sales everywhere across the board?
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
Well done. Now my schedule for May is spoiled... Guess I'll have to make do with the excellent Donkey Kong and Hyrule Warriors when I get them in May...
@readyletsgo
Nintendo have figured it out. That's why they designed the Switch to suit them and their games instead of third-party developers. They know their own games are the system sellers with anything third-party being a bonus.
I’ll wait, I have other things to tide me over until it releases.
And WOW at some of the comments up in here. Get a grip, kids.
I would be getting the PC version instead anyway. As disappointing as this is, I in the camp of "better late than buggy". I still remember Arkham Knight PC and Switch doesn't have Steam's refund system...
@Camilla I'm almost certain that it's a big bad bug that may have surfaced in the latest build or something that has not been resolved on time, causing the delay. Or possibly even Amiibo issues. It would make zero sense for Namco to intentionally delay the Switch version. Note how Wolfenstein 2 is also very delayed.
It's just a 3rd party game... it's not like a Nintendo game got delayed. What's the big deal? You still have cardboard to last you until summer.
@Huracan you're missing the fact that the lot of folks here lamenting over this are exclusively nintendo players. I'd venture to guess, just like with DOOM and Wolfenstein, a large majority of folks here have never played Dark Souls.
@gortsi I don't even know why people try to enter into debate with that child.
(this is where we find out he's 34)....
@WiltonRoots neither do I, he's as hopeless as the one that has finally relieved us from his presence. Oh well, it's 20 degrees right now in Oxford with the forecast indicating 25 later in the afternoon, so I'll just enjoy the glorious sunshine in the pub. Praise the sun!
@gortsi It's like the online equivalent of kids saying "my dad's bigger than your dad."
Aaaand now it’s off the Coming Soon section in the eshop.
Why are they allowed to do this?
It creates nothing but bad press for the Switch. Nintendo arent on From’s radar, they lose nothing by pretending to release on the Switch, but stand to gain a quiet bonus (from oooohh... who knows?) for the favour of giving Nintendo a jab.
