@Franklin It's the flip side - the positive side - to so many people taking the games industry personally. All of us want to see Nintendo succeed, but Satoru Iwata lived that goal every day, doing his best to be approachable and humble - our friend - while doing it.
I was playing New Leaf last night, getting my song from KK. Iwata-san's name comes up last in those credits, and I was thinking of how many others that same night saw his name and were thankful for what he's helped to bring us.
So thanks for both screens, sir. Thank you for the joy you brought my family and friends with the Wii. Thank you for what the Wii U is, even if the industry scorns it. Thank you for bringing more smiles and more happiness to more people than I could ever hope to. Yours are big shoes to fill. And a big 1up to you wherever you are.
Etrian Odyssey and Legend of Legacy for me. Looking forward to Bravely Second and FE: Fates, too, though I think I'm going to take a swing at the Japanese versions.
@Peach64 I think a lot of it comes from the perception that the money's already been spent. I certainly wouldn't begrudge Nintendo dodging what they consider a dodgy game, and I think the costs involved in localization and publishing aren't really understood by a lot of people.
@ultraraichu We're really good at complaining, and then having those complaints turn into an echo chamber that somehow makes opinion into fact. It's fascinating to watch media over here.
Kind of makes sense. Xseed is seen as being a niche publisher, and they're usually a bit more immune to the criticism Nintendo would take over this game either being poor or having an image that clashes with what people expect of the Big N.
@WOLF13 I know it seems like there's a lot of time until release, but if this is coming as soon as they say, there isn't much time to do much else before it has to go to print. It's not like they can be touching it up a month or two before release.
Well, he is trying to control the narrative. That Nintendo only focuses on upcoming games. Oh, and please don't watch the last couple of E3 presentations to verify that.
You mean I could have played Super Mario World and Dark Forces and Gran Turismo and Pilotwings and Star Fox on the same console? That would have been amazing.
@rishisquid That's an important point. I keep complaining that Nintendo doesn't tell stories where they could, but your comment makes me think I mean context, not story. Make the world of the story a cool, interesting place to be. Like the Wipeout games, which tell a story through aesthetic and time period. I'd like to think that's what Yokoi would fine to do with increased hardware power.
I'm just not sold on it, splitting the screens like this. But my biggest concern is that once again they're neglecting to tell a story with such a rich palette as the Star Fox universe. There's so much they could do, but it's the third time around for this general story. That's the part I really don't like.
The Bike Rider games are fun, and the 2nd edition brings some new tricks. Runner 2 is an absolute steal at that price, too. It's a masterpiece of a game.
This is very interesting, and I'm with the group assuming this won't be a straightforward console. If Nintendo can change the conversation about games, letting the other two consoles and PCs battle it out for graphics and power, then they could be on to something. But they can't afford to miss with NX.
I can't say anyone had a good E3 showing based on my interest level. Nintendo is in transition, which is fine. My current systems will get plenty of play. I'm trying to go back to acknowledging my role as a consumer: my money goes toward what I want, and I can't worry about sales figures or quality of marketing.
I could see this being true only if NX is indeed not the successor to the Wii U but is truly a new platform. Even then, those numbers are a bit ambitious. If it were a typical console, I'd say there's no way.
@Goginho Or, you know, expressing a negative opinion. You can chide that for a lot of things, but selfish and entitled is a bit much. If we all agreed and were being positive no matter what, there'd be no point to a comments section.
So much of the perception of a game is in how you present it. The trailer opened up room for some hype, fueling the expectations a bit more. And then...
I mean, I remember how many chat rooms went nuts when Majora's Mask was announced. Imagine if halfway through the trailer and tease bits they revealed that it was just a game for you to terraform the moon before it hits the surface.
Had they framed it right, that more to the Metroid story is coming but that this is in the meantime, then I think it would have gone over better.
It's also fighting with Splatoon for game style based on the videos, and that comparison won't be kind to Federation Force.
I don't just want good games. I want good stories. I want Star Fox to be treated like the epic it could be rather than as just another in a long line of tech demos. I want Metroid to tell a story in such an amazing unuverse - only the Alien films come close. Nintendo innovates on games, but they do come up well short in telling the stories of their worlds. Nothing sums that up better than the E3 offerings.
Not a surprise, as they telegraphed well ahead of time their intentions for the scope of E3. Though near the end of the Digital Event I did wonder if I'd hear "And our new mobile platform, exclusively for Blackberry..."
I really don't need any of the first wave amiibo, but I do have One Piece: Super Grand Battle X, and I'd like to unlock all of the costumes. Not for even retail prices, let alone the secondary market, though. Maybe I'll find someone who is a completionist and offer to buy them lunch if I can scan them in.
Bring that commercial over here for Cartoon Network or something. Don't translate it, don't subtitle it. Just let it roll as is. The WTF factor could actually work in Nintendo's favour.

Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away Aged 55
@Ninstarkof Ah, so we can only respect family members and friends. Good to know. Screw everyone who did anything before I was born.

@BlackSpy He, of all people, would understand. And considering how self-deprecating he was, he'd think it funny, too.

Re: Poll: What Do You Want From Nintendo's NX Platform?
@Hikingguy You knock it off with all of that logic and sound reasoning. What we want is a console that shoots laser beams.
Re: Weirdness: Revenge is a Dish Best Sold on eBay, as This EarthBound Sale Shows
I wouldn't do haven't done something like that even to someone I've hated. There's just a point where causing pain doesn't help anyone.
Re: Nintendo of America Confirms Plans to Bring Devil's Third to Region
I don't know why everyone is all upset. I mean, the really important thing is that Terraria is still coming our way.
/got nothing
Re: Poll: What Do You Want From Nintendo's NX Platform?
It's simple: if it has enough games I want to play, I buy it. If not, I don't. I'm not going to worry about their market share or revenues for them.

(Looks at Wii U preorders) Yoshi, Legend of Kay, and Rodea. Hmm. Not exactly a full dance card, is it.

A Jelonzo amiibo = take my money.
I was very glad to get the 3-pack at launch - the only one in probably 100 miles. That's not hyperbole.

Re: Poll: Does Nintendo's Drive Towards Multiplayer Gaming Appeal to You?
