Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away Aged 55

@Franklin It's the flip side - the positive side - to so many people taking the games industry personally. All of us want to see Nintendo succeed, but Satoru Iwata lived that goal every day, doing his best to be approachable and humble - our friend - while doing it.

I was playing New Leaf last night, getting my song from KK. Iwata-san's name comes up last in those credits, and I was thinking of how many others that same night saw his name and were thankful for what he's helped to bring us.

So thanks for both screens, sir. Thank you for the joy you brought my family and friends with the Wii. Thank you for what the Wii U is, even if the industry scorns it. Thank you for bringing more smiles and more happiness to more people than I could ever hope to. Yours are big shoes to fill. And a big 1up to you wherever you are.

@rishisquid That's an important point. I keep complaining that Nintendo doesn't tell stories where they could, but your comment makes me think I mean context, not story. Make the world of the story a cool, interesting place to be. Like the Wipeout games, which tell a story through aesthetic and time period. I'd like to think that's what Yokoi would fine to do with increased hardware power.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As PlayStation 4

This is very interesting, and I'm with the group assuming this won't be a straightforward console. If Nintendo can change the conversation about games, letting the other two consoles and PCs battle it out for graphics and power, then they could be on to something. But they can't afford to miss with NX.

You know, or not.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Asks for Fan Trust With Metroid Prime: Federation Force

So much of the perception of a game is in how you present it. The trailer opened up room for some hype, fueling the expectations a bit more. And then...

I mean, I remember how many chat rooms went nuts when Majora's Mask was announced. Imagine if halfway through the trailer and tease bits they revealed that it was just a game for you to terraform the moon before it hits the surface.

Had they framed it right, that more to the Metroid story is coming but that this is in the meantime, then I think it would have gone over better.

It's also fighting with Splatoon for game style based on the videos, and that comparison won't be kind to Federation Force.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Approach to Transforming Franchises Clashes With Fan Expectations

I don't just want good games. I want good stories. I want Star Fox to be treated like the epic it could be rather than as just another in a long line of tech demos. I want Metroid to tell a story in such an amazing unuverse - only the Alien films come close. Nintendo innovates on games, but they do come up well short in telling the stories of their worlds. Nothing sums that up better than the E3 offerings.

Re: Nintendo's Official UK Store Restocks on Some Rare amiibo

I really don't need any of the first wave amiibo, but I do have One Piece: Super Grand Battle X, and I'd like to unlock all of the costumes. Not for even retail prices, let alone the secondary market, though. Maybe I'll find someone who is a completionist and offer to buy them lunch if I can scan them in.
