Re: More Details Emerge On EA's Cancelled 3DS Title MySims Friends

Vineleaf

Not a surprise. EA decided to target very young with many of their games on Nintendo platforms the last two generations. The two DS SimCity titles were almost unplayable from that. Giving us, say, SimCity 3000 or the original Sims on 3DS now would be amazing... if they could leave the games alone and not shoehorn in things like tapping on fireworks or annoying Isabelle-esque (redundant, I know) assistants.

SSX 3, I think, was the finest entry in that series. My other favourites on the system included PN03, Crazy Taxi, Medal of Honor: Frontline, and the number of drunken hours I spent playing Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour when we weren't biking or wakeboarding.

EDIT: Oh, and Star Fox Adventures. Love that game.

Their lowest selling, but also my favourite Nintendo console to date.

Re: Talking Point: Unique and Affordable - Nintendo's NX Needs to Avoid Direct Competition With PlayStation and Xbox

The technology now is certainly good enough that it will come down to the games. They don't have to be highest resolution, but they have to exist in the first place. The Xbox One is great. The PS4 is great. The Wii U is great. So are the 3DS and Vita. Why? They all have games that appeal to me. So I'm not really worried whether Nintendo can pull this off, especially consolidating console and handheld development. They just need to sell it right.

I'm just tired of the rumours by now. Time to show it.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 1st September

Vineleaf

@rjejr I get it, and I think they could do more along those lines, but it seems to be their culture. I think NoA would tell us more if it were up to them, but they have the feeling of always looking over their shoulder. Considering Miyamoto has talked about its development, it's not like there was set to be a bombshell reveal anyhow.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 1st September

@Dakt I think they're convinced that their core fans are their handheld fans. That the numbers, while smaller from last generation, show that that's a market that holds up better. And if they can't support home and handheld consoles at the same time and have to merge them, a lot of preference will be given to the handheld people.

Re: 3DS Nintendo Direct Confirmed for 1st September

Vineleaf

Would love some new things, but a bit on Ever Oasis would suffice for me. I don't really care about Pokemon, Ace Attorney, Yokai Watch, or Dragon Quest, so I know there is potential for disappointment.

They'd make my year with Etrian Odyssey Untold III. Going to really bother me in an OCD way if that one out of all of them is on a different system.

Re: Discuss: What Next For The Nintendo 64?

Vineleaf

@ThanosReXXX The NES mini holds minor interest for me, though I have most of the games I'd want from that system. I grew up with an Atari, and same deal with that: I haven't really wanted their version of a retro system. The SNES version could hold minir interest if we can get the original Star Fox back. But I have enough (legal) avenues for getting retro games on current systems that I'm not much bothered. The N64 games, like the PS1, generally have aged poorly to my eyes.

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo NX Games Do You Want to See in the Launch Window?

Vineleaf

Went Mario Kart, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and Pilot Wings. Would otherwise like to see more Fire Emblem, though I get that Fates happened recently. Maybe an HD Path of Radiance, or perhaps get Koei Tecmo on board for Fire Emblem Warriors.

Otherwise, I'd like Bayonetta 3 for sure, and if we're getting into dream territory, a return to something along the lines of PN03 or Auto Modellista from the Cube or something akin to Remember Me from the X360.

Re: Nintendo NX Has A Core Idea Which Doesn't Just "Follow Advancements In Technology", Claims Miyamoto

Vineleaf

I'm not really terribly worried about gimmicks or power at the moment. What worries me more is the way some at Nintendo talk about making games only when they have an input method they like (F-Zero). Video games have evolved as a type of entertainment where storytelling and setting a scene/tone really do matter. Splatoon nailed that from a tone perspective, but I feel like Nintendo is forgetting about telling a story or creating a world with some of their games. It's not all down to inputs.

Re: Editorial: Nintendo Did A Solid Job at E3 2016, But That Didn't Ease Long-Term Concerns

Vineleaf

Really, it's all just a question mark right now. Zelda will be a fitting swan song for Wii U, but I am glad to have other systems to play (Forza Horizon 3, ReCore, Steep).

The big thing for me is figuring out what it would take for me to buy an NX, whatever it may be. I bought the Wii U for MK8, Hyrule Warriors, and Bayonetta 2. I bought the Xbox for Forza 6 and Sunset Overdrive. I bought the PS4 for Ratchet and Clank and the Samurai Warriors 4 games. The 3DS and Vita sold themselves for me. Loads on those two.

But what about NX? I have the Wii U for Zelda. Maybe a Splatoon 2 if they put in more single-player content? Another Bayonetta or an eye-catching MK9? I'm not an early adopter, so I really don't know.

It's tough to say without knowing what the system is, but I think the gimmick ultimately will matter this time. I hope the announcement is soon. I'm very curious.

Re: Study Suggests Rising Smartphone Ownership Among Kids Is Hitting Nintendo Hard

Vineleaf

My niece noticed me playing Animal Crossing and wanted to play. So I let her—once I emptied my pockets so she wouldn't give anything away. She was entranced for hours.

But my sister won't let me buy her a system. Because those rot your brain and waste time. My niece is on her third iPad, playing all of the typical games. But since she could be doing something educational, that's all fine. Multi-functional devices get a pass for capability over reality.

Re: Capcom Could Be Planning to Bring Back Old IP

I'd love to see something in Auto Modellista again, though they should partner with someone who already has a driving-game engine to build that. The art style is what made that game. Oh, and leave out the hideous arcade voiceover.

I'd like PN03 and Darkstalkers, too.
