More of an app than a game, but with the possibility of expanding into a Tomodachi Life-esque thing? I guess I see how that could work. Not my thing, though.
Any way you slice it, none of those numbers are terribly exciting. The PS4 selling that well without it reflecting in the software is odd to me, though.
I don't really see how download-only is viable, nor do I believe it to be inevitable. Someone has to solve the problem of two-dimensional eShops being harder to navigate - and largely making spontaneous game discoveries all but extinct - when compared with a three-dimensional retail space.
@TheLobster It wasn't specified that we were just talking consoles. And if it's console-only, that does tilt the scales in favour of Nintendo simply because that's all Nintendo develops for—and tilts the scales even more if we start picking single-platform.
That's not to take anything away from them, mind you, as they've been incredibly successful over the years. The video game market we have owes a great deal to Nintendo. Just not so much recently.
I still show Kinect Adventures at 24 million in 10th place. I'm using Wikipedia. Happy to stand corrected if you have a better source.
@fungusar Not even close to all being Nintendo. Tetris is #1 (not counting the Game Boy version, incidentally), Minecraft is up there, along with GTAV and Diablo III. 6 out of 10 is great, but they certainly aren't all 10.
Nintendo has 8 out of 10 on single platform titles, but Minecraft and Kinect Adventures are still up there.
Fair enough on not releasing games until they're ready, but that philosophy needs to extend to the consoles themselves. It's the games that matter, and a console without games isn't ready. And, dare I say it, can be seen to be bad forever.
Easy ports are important, just as exclusives are. It's being able to have as big of a share of the cake while putting your own exclusive cherries on top. The possibility of a highly (enough) powered portable component would mean Splatoon on the go, for instance. That's big. There's a niche they can fill, and while I expect it to be expensive, if it has the games, it's got a lot of promise.
@Kogorn733 @LaVelle @NintendoFan990 I hope social justice doesn't wind up being used as a straw person here. This is very consistent behaviour from Nintendo of America going back quite some time. I think they're squeamish about their family-friendly image and sometimes freak out about it. Other times (Bayonetta, Senran Kagura) they seem to shrug.
@Darknyht That's assuming the gaming press talks about it at all, of course.
The lingerie outfits could be defended from an aesthetically gothic perspective, but the Nintendo ones feel both out of place and kind of insulting to Nintendo fans: here, here are the characters you like!
I can't be too bothered either way, really. I wasn't going to get the game, and anything on this wasn't going to change my mind.
Still a cartridge I treasure for my GBA, though I'd still rather have it on the go. Like a lot of the GBA and DS titles, I don't think I want if for the Wii U.
They've done all the first-party, localized games, right? I can't imagine, at the price, that it's worth it to go through licensing, sometimes with companies who have changed hands multiple times. Are there any big sellers from the original Game Boy that haven't come out?
I love the game and I'm happy to have a version that's portable. I am rather hoping I can transfer progress from the Wii U version, but I somehow doubt that'll be a thing.
@wisdomsprince I haven't regretted getting an Xbox One for a moment—and it means that I'm playing my Wii U a bit more, too, since they're both hooked up. Of course, there's no end to Hyrule Warriors, and XCX will keep me occupied until SMT x FE, but so will Forza 6/Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive.
I'll pick up FAST when it comes out, but between bits of Hyrule Warriors still to do (read: a lot), some games on the Xbox One, and Yoshi's Woolly World, I'll be just fine.
Got my XB1 about a month ago, and I think this, Arslan, and Mirror's Edge Catalyst are the 3 games I'm looking forward to the most. It's probably best for Platinum if they spread the devlopment love around multiple consoles.
I'm hot and cold with Mario Tennis titles. Some feel alright - I'm okay with Open, for instance, but the GCN version seemed to be just waiting for a power shot all the time. This one looked to be even more about what items you get to do something funky. For now, at least, I'll be skipping this one.
Sony knows they made mistakes with the Vita, which is a shame as it's a lovely system. What bothers me about analyzing this market is the assumption that all games are just games. The styles between handhelds and mobile just aren't the same for the majority, and so many people I know who play match-3 games on their phones every waking moment don't consider themselves to be playing a game. They claim to just be wasting time.
Makes a lot of sense. Both Nintendo and Playstation were using blue. Xbox stuck out my comparison in green, and it makes sense for Nintendo to go with red. A minor thing, though.
@AmyGrrl Even just moving to a unified platform would help them all. That way you pick which system works best for you as a DVD-esque standard and get the ones with the services, bells, and whistles you like.
I adore New Leaf and loved the GCN original—for some reason didn't take to the DS version and hated City Folk—but I think I'm going to pass. It doesn't hold the appeal or the whimsy for me. I'm glad it's solid enough, though, that those interested will have plenty of content. Always a good thing.
I don't know where Animal Crossing goes from here, honestly. I just don't see a Wii U version, though this could be a brilliant launch title in the case NX is a hybrid console. The HD at home while maintaining portability could make such a game a monster.
I expected there to be some difference between the two. I'll buy the Japanese version on the N3DS for the 3D and such, and be fine without it for the NA release on my main system.
Nothing was going to match the sales of the DS. It was the stepping stone into mobile gaming for many, and was simply a monster in the marketplace. There was no comparable reason to get a 3DS—and I say that as someone who owns multiple of them. Almost everyone I know who had a DS is now playing Candy Crush on their phones.
It just isn't my genre. I wish it would have done better as it was one of those titles that could have set the tone for the Wii U, but I just don't like survival-horror games.
@IceClimbers That's true, though there are 3DS games coming that I'm looking forward to: Project X Zone 2, Bravely Second, Stella Glow, Fire Emblem Fates, Hyrule Warriors Legends—and others are excited about Federation Force and Tri-Force Heroes to name a couple. It just seems like there's more promise left in the 3DS than the Wii U. But for the holidays? Yeah, they aren't there this year on either system, really.
@Volcanox I just got an Xbox One, with the PS4 on my agenda some time next year. Loving it so far. Switching between Forza 6 on that and Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U. It's easy to see which is more advanced (by a lot), but the Wii U is definitely easier to approach and get into.

Re: Eiji Aonuma is Aiming For an Open World "Surprise, or Kind of a Twist" in The Legend of Zelda for Wii U
It turns out that Ganondorf is nowhere to be found and Link's task is to create a productive farm on the outskirts of Hyrule.

@JLPick "Playstation 4 and Xone will still continue to sell well into the holiday season (and neither really have a AAA game for the holidays)."
What? I'm looking at Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider on the Xbox and both are getting Fallout 4 and Battlefront.
