@mushroomer The shame of it is that there are two perspectives on Star Fox right now: the rail shooter (where it doesn't matter that they keep revisiting the same story) and the non-rail shooter (which is thought of as almost not Star Fox). I loved the original on SNES and I loved Star Fox Adventures. I hated Assault (I was just never sure what to do), and Command was scratching for excuses to use a touch screen. It's kind of fragmented. I think they first need to reestablish what this series really is.
@Hamguar I'm right there with you: I really want to get it into _______ game! But I also work three jobs and want to actually see the people in my life, etc. I just got my Xbox One, and Forza 6 will occupy me for months on that system, just like Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8 have been for the Wii U. I don't really need new games at the moment.
That said, I'll definitely get Yoshi's Woolly World, and I do want to try Rodea the Sky Soldier. SMT x FE has me excited, too, and Hyrule Warriors Legends I'll probably get in both NA and Japan versions.
Only so many hours in the day. Or, couple of hours each evening.
The best thing about calling something the last nail in a coffin is that someone can always sneak up and pound in another one. The metaphor that never dies.
Well, we'll see what comes out of it. Games companies get reshuffled all the time—with mixed results. Here's hoping this leads to new voices and more opportunities.
If Sony could come back from the PS3 launch and Microsoft from the XboxOne launch, surely Nintendo can recover, with the right steps, with their next hardware.
@Kiyata_Hamasaki Yeah, I've found it very frustrating so far. It's marginally better with headphones, but I still find half the notes to have nothing to do with some alleged rhythm.
@JaxonH But these companies work very hard to get us emotionally invested in their ecosystems. They want us to identify our lives with their logos. As much as fanboyism is irrational, it's encouraged irrationality.
@Peace-Boy It's one of the extensions they've been putting on the other Warriors games is all.
I've just gotten back to tackling this again on the Wii U and it'll be nice to be able to play it on the go. It won't shine as much as the Wii U version on the 3DS, but it'll still be fun. Samurai Chronicles on the 3DS was alright.
The problem becomes success: if these developers do well enough, they're going to want to put their games out on multiple platforms, and Nintendo's platforms have been the least convenient the last generation or two. That's why being Unity compatible is important. These independent developers need incentive to stay with Nintendo, and it's going to take backing and publicity from Nintendo to do that.
Surely a good value when you consider the number of hours we'll get out of it, but I just can't pull the trigger on this. I'll stick with the regular edition. I've been waffling on the LE Rise of the Tomb Raider, and if I can't decide on that, I won't go with this, either.
@TheWPCTraveler Just how the comments for Senran Kagura in particular seem to generate a great deal of emotion and name-calling. I'll get this game, but I certainly understand where the criticism comes from, especially with the way the producer talks.
"I think if someone makes a product they're entitled to receive payment for it from customers."
Oh please: let's not pretend Nintendo isn't selling all of these. Many of them are sold more than once, in fact. By your logic Nintendo should get a cut of scalper money, too. The equivalency you try to turn early on in that argument isn't there, as your "deserve" lines are pure strawman fallacy.
I was lucky enough to get the Splatoon 3-pack. And I lend them out all the time so people can unlock part of a game they already paid for. They'd pay for the figures, too. If they could get them.
This is a market reaction to producing a cash cow and then not making nearly enough to meet demand. The next step is everyone but collectors and scalpers giving up on them. Like Beanie Babies.
By the look of things, my Wii U will see less and less use. Yoshi and Xenoblade are the only two I'm interested in from it. Probably a good thing I have an Xbox One coming soon.
There's nothing left that can save the Wii U. It has almost all of its big titles already, and I'm satisfied with the experience. I'm about to get an X1 to go with it, so I won't be hurting for games.
I'm not really interested in this since I'm not interested in Pokemon (and have Tekken Tag Tournament already), but I do hope for the fans that is doesn't become a DLC fest.
I remember getting the system with Super Mario World, buying Super Mario Kart at the same time, and getting a mail-in offer: send in a form and the system's UPC and I got All Stars. What a great way to get acquainted with a console.
I think overall Nintendo needs to learn to talk with their fans instead of at them. Their use of social media is just too sanitized, and with limited offerings on the U, for example, they need to elbow further into the general video game conversation. With the Directs, I got the sense that this was the one time I would actually hear from Nintendo, while other developers and publishers keep the conversation more continual.
For anyone describing it as harsh or what have you, keep in mind that companies in general can't view this as a grey area. I can believe his superiors not necessarily wanting to get rid of him, but they can't make an exception for something that is at the core of tech and entertainment companies. It's a pity all the way around. Here's hoping one of the other biggies picks him up. Especially for localization... hey Atlus! Help a guy out?
The PR people were probably apoplectic about the way some of the policies were discussed. I'm not surprised that this is the result, though I hope very much he gets another job pronto.
@Cyber-BLP-- I didn't think of that, that it could be simple timer in the programming. My mind went to server contact.
Oh and definitely on the on-disc DLC. I don't think SMM is being abusive or anything—though the thought of $5 koopa armor or something just made me giggle. I'm not really a fan of the 8-bit Mario, though, and I'd hope to jump right into the 16-bit. I don't know what is and is not behind a timer, but having an era unavailable at first would be annoying.
@Cyber-BLP-- Nintendo paying my phone bill would be awesome!
I know a lot of people are excited for this game and Mario's 30th and all that. It's not my bag, either the game or Mario, but I hope it does well.
I don't like trickled content already on a disc, especially if the system and server have to talk to each other to unlock it. I'm thinking of that from the perspective of someone who likes to keep older systems hooked up, and if I ever have to replace my console, I don't want the games to be stuck on 1.0.0.
And watch yer liver, mate. I was actually worried about you while reading these comments.
So long as we don't start believing that we're getting bonus features or DLC (looking at you, Splatoon) when it's just items that aren't unlocked at purchase. Not the healthiest approach, either. Feels like being attached to puppet strings.
@westman98 The most I could see is something like the Firefox phone, low-powered and inexpensive and filling a specific need. It would probably sell, but not in Galaxy or iPhone numbers.
I like these games just for the sake of marketing. So many people I know, whose gaming experience is primarily with Nintendo, don't even know what the gang in Kyoto is up to these days. They don't know the hardware, let alone the software. Anywhere awareness built up there has to be a good thing.

@ricklongo Yeah, I think it was Zelda or nothing at this point for mainstream appeal.

Self-fulfilling prophecy, this: they waited long enough that those most likely to buy it probably went the XL route (or imported like I did).
I'm not buying it twice.
