One of the highlights of E3 this year was the Nintendo World Championships, which was hosted by Kevin Pereira. Proving that he is more than just a game show host and presenter, Pereira put his investigative journalism hat on and sat down with NOA big cheese Reggie Fils-Aimé last week to grill him about Nintendo's time at this year's E3.
Reggie expertly ducks the mandatory NX and DeNA opening gambit in favour of focusing on the here and now, which is to be expected.
The conversation quickly moved on to the reaction to the Nintendo's E3 games and it wasn't long before the topic of Metroid Prime: Federation Force came up. Reggie repeated a previous analogy and was quick to point out the reaction to Toon Link when The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was revealed for GameCube all those years ago. Reggie retorted "if social media existed then, we would have been run out on rails. And this is a game that has gone on to be one of the beloved of all time, one of the most highly rated of all time, so the fact is - chill, trust us."
Reggie quickly turned the conversation back to upcoming Wii U titles such as Star Fox Zero, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Yoshi's Woolly World and Super Mario Maker, all of which he was able to talk about passionately.
Mr Fils-Aimé was keen to point out that he personally walks around the E3 show floor to try out new experiences from competitors. He tipped his hat to the team behind Halo 5 and said he felt it was going to be a strong game. Reggie also felt that EA has a winner on its hands with Star Wars: Battlefront too. He was then quick to point out that many of the games on show at this years E3 were being targeted for launch in 2016 or beyond. Reggie says Nintendo's focus is showing what is coming up in the here and now.
The most important question was saved until the end, what would become of Puppet Reggie? The good news is that it will be safety stored in Reggie's office next to Robot Chicken Reggie and Giant Mii Head Reggie. Well, we're glad that's been cleared up.
Do you think Reggie got let off lightly in this interview? As always share your thoughts with a comment below.

Reggie is hyped for Halo 5, we're saved!
@DarthNocturnal
It's like saying you don't like the a particular food without tasting it.
Devil's Third?
I want to see a direct with Regginator, mii-Reggie, muppet-Reggie and Reggie all at the same table hosting/arguing about what game to show next.
"Chill...trust us." Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
@DarthNocturnal The only problem I see with that analogy is that people weren't mad at Wind Waker for just...existing, but really just the art style. Still, Federation Force isn't finished yet, I haven't played it, so...yeah.
Got off a little easy in my opinion. Should have asked about amiibo shortages and how Zelda development coming along.
@ekreig wow a bit dramatical there
The only question i have is why Reggie's muppet doesn't have a bald spot like him... Luigi, give-a this man your hat !!!
@DarthNocturnal I remember that as well. People were very angry because they wanted a very realistic almost hardcore Zelda game, similar to Ocarina of Time, but were angry that they got Wind Waker which they thought was very childish in appearance. So I guess you can see the similarity between the two (Federation Force and Wind Waker).
I also think that was one of the main reasons Twilight Princess was made. To appease the fans who wanted a realistic Zelda. Although I'm not entirely certain on that.
@DarthNocturnal ...Good point.
@NintendoFan64 No I remember that backlash...I was young enough to be a part of it at the time. People didn't want that game to exist at all, it was space world demo or bust. Granted there wasn't the change.org insta petition but there were calls for boycotts and other such nonsense. I agree with Reggie's analogy. However only time will tell if the new metroid spinoff will become a cult classic or not. I like the concept behind it so far as the metroid universe feels barren to me.
I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say this, but I think Nintendo is being too harshly criticized once again. I enjoyed their E3 direct much like every year, and sure I'll admit that the Metroid and Animal Crossing games weren't what we wanted or expected, but until I play the final versions of them, I can't judge these games purely on what I saw over E3.
Federation Force does look like a lot of fun when you look beyond the Metroid Prime in the title, and as a multiplayer shooter, a genre that is lacking on 3DS, I'll definately be keeping my eyes on it. Then there's Animal Crossing amiibo Festival, and while it hasn't done anything as of yet to pique my interests (other than those nice animal crossing amiibo) I'm hearing that there will be multiple modes in the game, hopefully modes that will better portray all that is fun about Animal Crossing.
Other than that, the rest of Nintendo's line up does excite me. Starfox Zero, Super Mario Maker, Xenoblade Chronicals X, Zelda Triforce Heroes, Mario & Luigi Paper Jam, Fire Emblem Fates, Hyrule Wariors Legends plus all the DLC that is going to be added to Splatoon and Smash Bros. throughout the coming months.
I could go on for even longer, but I won't push it. All I wanted to get across is that Nintendo always seems to cop a lot of slack, whether it be from their latest console to their games lineup. But when you look at them as a whole, Nintendo almost always seems to push through and deliver. Plus I think us Nintendo fans get pretty spoiled throughout the year anyway, with all the surprises they throw at us during their directs.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I'll stop for now
Well, he is trying to control the narrative. That Nintendo only focuses on upcoming games. Oh, and please don't watch the last couple of E3 presentations to verify that.
@rjejr
Yes, Devil's Third!
@ekreig I can't understand why the hate for Reggie too? He's doing his job. Atleast I can understand the hate for Iwata somewhat but still.....
@SpriteMaster I agree with you 100%.
I hope the muppets come back next E3 and future Nintendo Directs! They were my favourite thing of their whole E3
It's nice to see Reggie trying out the competition. It's always useful for companies to know the good and bad things their rivals are doing.
Reggie's getting bald.
The biggest comparison I think for Federation Force is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. That game plays nothing like Pokemon. Wonder what Metroid fans think of it.
@manu0 Old age and especially stress can do that to you.
