This reminds me of a Lego series I grew up called "Bionicle", it was about a universe of living constructs. There robotic like beings were created by a giant mechanical being known as "Mata Nui".
They lived by three virtues, "Unity, Duty, and Destiny".
What made the series so fun is they had their very own language called "Matoran". It was a series of circular shapes that each represented a different letter.
I turned my my pc font into it as a kid because I loved it so much. I enjoy when fantasy goes all out to make their universe seemed lived in. As if you are touring a world far removed from your own. It's alien in nature.
I'm sucker for retro games like these. Which is weird because I never grew up with a gb. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is the only game I enjoy most out the franchise.
Disappointed about the length, but if the passion is there and it's executed well, that can be overlooked. I'll check it out. I love puzzle solving games.
@Mattock1987 I would if I didn't stop caring about Pokemon two decades ago. I don't have kids, but if what you say is true, ill recommend to my friends who do. And the ones who don't but are still Pokemon fans now.
@PinderSchloss I don't get the idea behind something making billions is proof of good quality. To me it just means it did it's job.
Personally, I just can't agree with fans saying: "Mario has not plot, so what did expect from a movie?" But, hey that's the excuse so eh. Feels more insulting in my opinion but eh.
The movie is mid for sure, much better movies released. But yes, I agree. Incredibles 2 was highest grossing animated film of 2018, yet the most talked about movie that year was Spiderman.
It sucks for Gargoyles as it's my favorite childhood show of all time. The remaster really should have more done to it. I would have sacrificed the hand drawn graphics, for more up to date game mechanics.
Disney wants to re-surge the franchise, but isn't putting a lot of effort to garner interests. I'm not even looking forward to the live action adaption, giving who the director is.
@BTB20 Hey, there. Sorry for the late response. But yes, shallow. I stand by that.
By the way did you know my among my favorite cartoon villains Cooler is one them? For those who don't know, "Cooler" or "Coola" in Japanese is Frieza's non-canon older brother.
Released on July 20 1991, Coola made his debut in DBZ movie 5: "Strongest vs. Strongest". In 2002 the film was released in North America for VHS and DVD. I remember that day fondly as it was the first time I ever fully invested in DBZ. I got a cool card and giant figure of the villain.
I could go on, but Tl:dr, Cooler comes to earth to battle Goku is the basic premise. I enjoy that movie still today in both sub and dub. Even the original dubbed music. You see, I know of DBZ, because I was a kid when it first arrived in America, and I grew up with other kids who enjoyed the heck out of it.
It's a fun and addicting franchise. However it's not a very deep franchise hence why I call it shallow. And that not an offense as Toriyama himself is a gag writer, and has stayed true to his brand of style even today. Shallow doesn't mean DBZ is horrible. It just means there's very little depth, at the series is an action/comedy. Alot of shallow things are very popular, so I have no idea what either the two have to do with eachother but, oh well.
And lastly, I'm not even a real anime fan. I don't watch anime enough to be considered a snob if that's what you're hinting at. Where you get the idea I was even heading in that direction I have no clue.
@Dark_Isatari Actually I'm okay with it. No one should feel obligated to keep something in their work simply because of a point in time. It's their work and they should be allowed to change what they deem no longer fits.
Sorry, I'm just not the type of person who thinks because you did something nice for me in the past, I owe you now when you do something terrible in the present.
No one is perfect, but then again, most normal people don't play on people's sympathy for personal gain. Im okay with erasing history if I have to distance myself from a troubled individual. No skin off my bones.
@sanderev I didn't contradict myself. I said people who made successful games got their start from hacking games. I also said, alot of people just hack games for fun and nothing more.
1. Is an option people choose to pursue
2. Is just a hobby with no greater goal other than breaking something apart.
These two things can co-exist and they do. If you weren't so hell bent on seeing the scene as evil people who's only motives in life is to destroy companies, you'd find many of them have various motives for why they do these things.
For instance many old games as I said, have been left into the dust. Either due to companies no longer supporting it, or licensing issues preventing it. The "evil" hackers manage to preserve some of them thanks to breaking things down and bringing it over to modern hardware.
For example there is a gba series of games that Nintendo and Konami have never to ported over and it's forever stuck on GBA.
It's easier, and free for me to play the rom, vs constantly investing in GBA's that eventually become e-waste, and buying the game on Ebay that will continually scale in price the more said game becomes obscure due to limited cartridges.
Why don't you instead ask why big companies don't do a better job at creating a permanent solution to persevere games and make sure none get left behind to time?
There are so many games that can only be played due to emulation, but are illegal at the same time because companies haven't invested in preserving them.
Sorry, Im just not jumping on the bandwagon of labeling everyone who does this as pure evil monsters like alot of folks seems to do on this site.
@Daniel36 Hi, as someone's who in the rom hack scene let me clarify a few things.
1. It's not easy being creative and doing your own thing. Not everyone is a born artist.
2. Not everyone is trying to create their own thing. Rom hacks or this case a full reverse engineering is just a fun project. People have being doing this in the scene for over a decade now and it's fun.
People in general like to break things down and see the internal organs.
2. It's just that, a fun hobby. There is no profit to be gained and I assure you alot on the scene do not support piracy or trying to make a profit.
3. It's thanks to big hacks like these I am able to play games on defunct hardware, or fun games that never got translated outside of japan.
4. Alot of indies got there start from hacking games and went on to make fully successful games.
@PikaPhantom More power to the game. If it can bring back the sense of fun and adventure, I'm down for it.
The idea of a little more serious PoP with a bit more grit isn't bad. The main issue with a "Warrior Within", is it swung way too hard. As if to criticize the first game for being too childish. Like trying to shred itself and say "F the game, this is a series for big boys only." In that sense, it lost everything fun and interesting about the universe.
If this game can recapture it, then maybe we'll finally get more entries into a franchise that hasn't been in the spotlight for over a decade.
Only the 1st entry Sands of time is the best. The 2nd went full on edge mode, and the 3rd tried to rectify that mistake by being a mixture of the previous two entries.
Jordan Mechner wasn't even involved anymore after Sands of Time, and even commented how he disliked how dark the series became. It already strayed the moment he left.
@milliag Here is thing. You didn't just stop at saying you disliked the film. You compared it to ritilin and somehow something only millennials care about as if its a negative thing. When truth is people from all generations loved the film, it's animation and style.
You are finding ways to bring down the film with comments such as that or atleast the people who enjoyed it. No is claiming you are entitled to defend you position. It's just Im curious why all the small unneeded jabs.
All that aside, only a small minority craps over Mario. If you actually break down the RT scores, you will find alot of critics thought is was okay film at best. Really the reception of the Mario film is not as bad as a small minority makes it out to be.
On a worldwide scale you will find more people who gave the movie a thumbs up than a thumbs down. Im not even crapping on the film. Just saying it could have been more than what is was. It did is job which is fine.
Lastly, Im not objective about art. While I find Mario to be meh overall, it's far from the worse thing to ever grace theaters. Not even close. Wish exists and is everything wrong with Disney.
I grew up watching a small animated show on Disney that showed me animation can be alot more than I gave it credit for. So when I see films related to the genre, I enjoy when the story attempts some level of depth.
That's not say I can't enjoy mindless fun, just not as much. Spider-verse nails it when it comes to it's characters and story. Mario however sacrifices all that to be eye candy. Which is fine, but a bit letdown.
If the reverse were true, I'd pick Mario over Spider-man any day. Not every film deeps to be as deep as an ocean, but some depth is always a good thing in my book.
This isn't a Mario problem, it's an illumination problem and their approach to animation and storytelling. Had any other company in the world, and no I don't mean Disney, being given a chance; I'm sure the film would nailed it in that department.
I don't have small kids, but if I did, Im sure they'd enjoy Mario far more than Spider-man. So from my childless pov, it's meh. But from a person who has small kids pov, it's good family flick to pass time. And worth a buy, or stream.
@milliag Sorry, but I have to disagree and think that's just an excuse. Film and games are different mediums.
Lego movie is about brick toys. Brick toys have no character development, yet a movie about bricks was a hit with the critics. There is no excuse for Mario other than it's a safe yet forgettable film that could have been more. It served it's job, but it's average.
People are handling a difference opinion just fine. You made a post on an open forum and invited others to disagree with you. Maybe next don't do that if you don't like the responses.
You like the Mario which is fine. Everyone is entitled to like what they like, but it seems you for some odd reason keep reducing the hard work that went Spider-verse as nothing.
My question is why? Mario proved itself at the box office despite critics not liking it. And Spider-Verse was a box office hit with both fans and critics.
Why not just say you liked Mario movie more? You aren't giving any serious real breakdown of why you disliked Spider-man other than hating the animation.
Why are you so intent putting the films achievement's down? You keep inviting criticism to your post the more you throw insults at the movie. Like why?
@IronMan30 Yeah, while Im not a big reboot fan, I can see why they went that route. Jet Set Radio faded into more of a cult following after the sequel. Not to mention said sequel has never been released outside of the original Xbox.
While I personally would have liked a remaster of both games re-released, with a third new entry for the next gen, it's atleast a start from somewhere.
Honestly, Im just happy Sega is finally reviving it's vast library. I'm not getting myself too hyped up as for now. I have no idea how the final product will be, but for fans who grew up with a Sega console, and Sega IP's; It's good there is glimmer of hope they get to see their favorite franchises make a huge comeback.
Sega really shocked me for once. Which they haven't done in years. Xbox was my first next gen console of that era, and Jet Set Radio among my first games.
I'm mildly excited. If they a true to their word of making this new era their resurgence. I just might root hard for them.
@boxyguy Fortnite is trying to be a microtransaction metaverse full of corporate product placement in the form of snatching whatever is currently popular to sell as a skin to stay relevant for decades.
I will sit on my high horse and be dismissive of Fortnite. I call her Penelope.
@Captain4359 It's not obsession, it's just fans wanting to play as their favorite character. This is like the most common thing in all forms of media.
From comics, to movies, to video games, books, etc... Humans attach themselves to fictional characters and just imagine a scenario where said character is the main hero/heroine.
It's not even an bad idea either.
@jojobar We don't need to play as Link either. Need implies importance, and there is nothing important about this franchise in the grand scheme of things. It's just something fans of Zelda would like to see some day.
It's not an inherently bad idea either. No one expected the side characters of Mario to be a success and yet, Wario, Luigi, and Peach have proven they each can star in their own games without Mario overshadowing them.
Why is it impossible to do that with Zelda? Nintendo has already proven they can make a spinoff a success. Why doubt them now?
I see nothing wrong with a Zelda title in the future.
@imadeanaccount Honestly, I haven't been excited by a AAA release in a long time. I miss the day of wacky concept games. Now it's either a generic open world game, horror game, or FPS.
2008 version gets a bad rep, but story wise I like it was a light hearted fair like the first game. Wasn't a fan of 2's edgy boy and 3 trying to combine the best of both worlds.
@LadyCharlie At most, alot of people voting are most likely people born from 1990- onward.
While it may be true SNK had a impact on Smash Bros, people like me had no idea the franchise even existed. I don't see it as disrespectful, just I have no personal connection to it.
I have no doubt Fatal Fury played a big role in Smash, but in the history of my time, I have no feelings towards the series.
@K1LLEGAL I don't think the concept of Kingdom hearts is bad. I'd even go as far as to say the first game is fun.
Kingdom Hearts sadly took a bad turn in making everything bloated and convoluted. I don't know what happened, but the writing in these game are atrocious, nonsensical, and just bad. It's word barf.
It didn't help you have had multiple games spread across multiple consoles (before the collection) just to even understand what's going on.
@Sarkos Wow, sorry to hear that. I only played the full version.
@Purgatorium I agree it's gorgeous to look at, it's just boring to play which is a problem. The dialogue/gameplay ratio is very unbalanced.
For instance, you get to chapter 2 and you spend more time reading than actually playing. Then by chapter 3 the pacing comes to a screeching slog, and you are doing more reading than in chapter 2.
The gameplay itself is perhaps too simple and too easy. It seems the devs are more proud telling you a movie than actual game. The focus seemed to be more on making a deep universe, but little time was spent making that universe fun to play. It's just too much dialogue.
A reviewer said it best "There are two lines where one would do, and one line where none would do."
@rushiosan I don't know. The game wasn't glitchy for me. All in all, the main issue was too much dialogue, and not very good dialogue. And the core gameplay loop not being very engaging.

@LikelySatan Well I'm no expert, but if you wanna watch some things I did in the past, you can try:
"Megalo Box",
"Samurai 7",
Or if you're more into a slow burn "Mushishi"
Anyways those the few I can remember off the top of my head right now. Hope it's something.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Comments On The Possibility Of A Playable Zelda In The Future

"On behalf" - Time's up!
Re: Round Up: Everything Announced At The Game Awards 2023 - All Switch Game Reveals & Trailers
@locky-mavo No kidding. Sega for once has a bit curious for this new era. At best I was guessing it was going to be another Sonic announcement.
If Sega can revive their old classic with success, I might just believe this new energy era. Crazy Taxi and Jet Set has me happy.
Both were my first Xbox games.
Re: Round Up: Everything Announced At The Game Awards 2023 - All Switch Game Reveals & Trailers
Set Set Radio? JET SET RADIO?! Sega, if you pull this off, I'll pretend the last 20 years never existed!
Re: The Game Awards GOTY For 2023 Is Baldur's Gate 3
@imadeanaccount Honestly, I haven't been excited by a AAA release in a long time. I miss the day of wacky concept games. Now it's either a generic open world game, horror game, or FPS.
Re: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Demo Confirmed, Story Trailer Also Revealed
2008 version gets a bad rep, but story wise I like it was a light hearted fair like the first game. Wasn't a fan of 2's edgy boy and 3 trying to combine the best of both worlds.
Re: Talking Point: What's Next For The Super Smash Bros. Series?
@GalaxicGlobe This reminds me of something I said years ago.
An old acquaintance of mine said they prefer Japanese because it's vastly superior. So I asked him "Do you speak Japanese?". "No" he responded.
"Then how can you tell the difference between an actual performance and someone just phoning it in?". He stopped talking to me after that.
Re: Talking Point: What's Next For The Super Smash Bros. Series?
Super Mega Ultra Ultimate Fantastical Smash Bros. Switch 2. SMUUFSBS2 for short.
Featuring over 2000+ fighters.
Re: Feature: The Best Smash Bros. Ultimate Character Trailers, Ranked By You
@LadyCharlie At most, alot of people voting are most likely people born from 1990- onward.
Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sora amiibo Locks In February 2024 Release Date
KH is a example of just bad storytelling overall.
Re: Sonic Frontiers Latest Update Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Can Sonic surpass Mario? Anything is possible.
Can Sonic achieve that with Sega behind the wheel? Never.
Re: Eastward's Farm Sim DLC Will Sprout Onto Switch January 2024
Re: Eastward's Farm Sim DLC Will Sprout Onto Switch January 2024
@rushiosan I don't know. The game wasn't glitchy for me. All in all, the main issue was too much dialogue, and not very good dialogue. And the core gameplay loop not being very engaging.
