@AstroTheGamosian Thank you. I did not know that. This is why I love it so much. Actors and actress' gave each character a personality that stood out. Putting a bit of themselves into the role.
Gargoyles will forever hold a spot in my heart. It was ambitious with it's storytelling, and gave every character layers upon layers. It wasn't afraid to make it's characters complex.
The show pokes you hard with that complexity within the first 4 episodes.
@gaga64 @samuelvictor Might correct me on this, but here it goes anyways.
Mania's remixed levels from what I read was not the original goal. Christian Whitehead from what I gathered originally pitched an a new entry called Discovery.
Sega wasn't too sure, and asked them to take old levels and remix them instead which led to Mania.
So Mania is a remix of old and new. Is it a proper Sonic 4? I don't know. Just thought I offer some random insight from behind the scenes.
@AstroTheGamosian Oh, no doubt. While Keith David nailed the role, equal praise for the rest of cast.
Jonathan Frakes did an excellent job of giving Xanatos this subtle yet devious personality. I appreciate how he balanced the tone, as to make Xanatos appear as if he could be a real life master criminal.
He could have really hammed it up, and go way over the top like a typical cartoon villain, but he handled the role with style. Though I do also enjoy the very few moments where he did ham it just a little.
Everyone performed their role admirably, and for that, I hold each actor in high regard. All of them could have easily went in the studio, and phoned it in.
I'm glad they didn't. They looked at the concept, digested their given character, and gave them enough personality to tell them all apart.
@samuelvictor I didn't take what you said personally. Just giving an excuse as to why things may seem a bit everywhere when it comes timelines, lore and stuff.
@samuelvictor I'm not dunking on anything personally.
Games were a new medium before the crash, and after it rebounded still young. I'm pretty sure alot devs back then, couldn't even begin to envision how much the medium had rapidly evolved over the years.
Back then, they were focused on the moment, not the far future. All these lore and timelines stuff is just a side effect of games managing to becoming popular enough, that it spawned sequels that would span decades.
I'm 100% sure a young Miyamoto and Yuji Naka didn't imagine their creations would live all the way to 2023.
@epicgamner Fans wanted one, and Nintendo just stitched it together. I recall when "The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes" was released, there was a small vocal minority who rejected the idea it was apart of the offical timeline.
I will buy all of them, play each for less than an hour, then let them sit for years until vaguely remembering them again; Playing for less than an hour and repeating the cycle once more.
@Ryu_Niiyama Technically yes? By all accounts the subject matter is still at the center, it's just surrounded by other topics within the same realm.
For the bait and switch part. I enjoyed it. It gave Demona a back story as to how she managed to survive for over 1000 years. It also showed that without change we're doomed to an enteral cycle of our making.
The show balanced her well. It did give her character small glimmers of hope. For instance in a flashback of her life, it showed she slowly started to gain trust in humans, and maybe somewhere in the back of her mind understood Goliath's unwillingness to make them enemies.
It's only after the second betrayal, she reverted forever. 1000 years of hatred will keep you in a place that's not going to change nomatter how hard you try.
@samuelvictor Shadow was one cigar away from being every 80's action hero ever made.
This line right here is why I think for Shadow fans deserves one more chance with him in a new game:
"If the world chooses to become my enemy, then I will fight like I always have."
That right there is the what separates him from Sonic. I wish I knew why Sega took Shadow to such a odd place in his solo game. I chalked it up to trying to make him not seem so much like Sonic.
I would be lying if I didn't say I used to not get the appeal of his character, but, I see why he has a fanbase even after all this time.
That line alone isn't the words of someone making excuses. It's acceptance. That even if people end up hating him in the end, he won't revert to who he was before.
@samuelvictor Agreed. A moderate success is considered good. I could see the authors pov if the show failed after a half a season. But it didn't. It was the 90's.
Cartoons left as soon as they came. If any show made it past 2 seasons, that's a high five.
@samuelvictor To be honest with, ya I don't see how Gargoyles was/is unloved. If people wanna know why it stopped, the answer isn't surprising. Change in production and decline in viewership is typical of why many shows don't last forever.
I mean at the height of it's popularity there was a good chunk of merch and as by the topic title, a licensed video game. So I mean they did put in effort to sell the series to audiences.
As to why there was never a movie? That's easy too. Remember a film called "Ducktales the movie"? You don't? Well there ya go, it was a flop.
Remember a film called "Teacher's Pet the movie"? Not that either? It flopped too. It's easy to see why Disney wasn't going to risk any more movies based on cartoon series' for the foreseeable future.
Edit: My last half is not directed at you or anyone personally, just stating why I don't think the series was treated poorly.
The lack of features doesn't surprise me. I could tell from the get go they were working with a very tiny tiny budget.
Disney has been quietly garnering re-interest in the franchise in spades. So i think they on some level they are testing the waters for future reasons.
I'll still get it as Gargoyles was my favorite animated show that introduced to me the world of drama. The show itself showed me how storytelling can be in a kids show. It dealt with adult subjects in nuance and subtle ways.
"I cannot make war upon an entire world." ~ Goliath. Keith David is my favorite actor of all time!
@samuelvictor Yeah, that's why I think a spin-off title not starring Sonic could allow more freedom to make a co-op focused experience.
You remove Sonic and everyone can be balanced just fine in his absence. I'm not sure who a 4th character could be in his place or maybe a new one? That's a bit too risky.
Or just a three player affair? But yes, without worrying about the guy who's faster than the speed of sound, would make exploration and puzzle solving less chaotic when everyone is moving relativity at the same pace.
I'm fine with Amy taking lead as she seems just right for such a setting
@samuelvictor Yeah, if it's get a sequel, I hope the devs drop bot bottle mode together and in exchange a costume shop or items you can use in the levels to just have fun.
Collecting coins for robot parts just wasn't the best idea on the table.
Im still not 100% sure on how I feel about co-op. I don't wanna be that that person who's absolutely sure of himself. After reading behind the scenes, I can see it was more or less an experiment where devs weren't too sure.
So, I propose they go at it one more time in maybe a spinoff title without the added pressure of being the next big-ish Sonic game. This would afford devs time to refine and experiment with the idea to see if it sticks in the long run.
Wow, I didn't think about so in depth like that. It's funny how the passage of time can make one forget how so much has changed within span of just a couple of decades.
I 100% agree with you. As for 3D, I don't know for sure. Atleast not in the given moment. I just don't it clicks with alot of people in it's current stage. Maybe in the far future that will change.
Once thing I miss about the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS, is you could just slip it in your pocket and good to go. Nowadays electronics are so big, you need an extra suitcase inside your suitcase.
@blindsquarel I'll take your word for it. I haven't played it yet so I don't why it's revered among fans.
I will say this though. Careful to not let your nostalgia cloud your judgement. You can find yourself placing something on a pedestal that's impossible to reach.
@blindsquarel Color Splash was my first Paper Mario experience. It left a mildly bland taste in my mouth. I don't know the love for TTYD personally, but for friends around me, it has a special place in their heart.
For them, it was the first time Mario's world had a tiny bit of depth to it. You had an overall story, a cast of quirky characters, and it felt like a huge adventure. It was like the freedom to take Mario into a new universe.
Now, Im no Mario mega fan so I can't attest to what sets Paper Mario apart from 3D Mario, but that's the type of thinking my friends had at the time, and still do to this day. Wario was my jam growing up.
@TheWhoMentality I can understand everyones point of view on this. I don't think people asking for a bit a challenge is asking for dark souls levels of hard.
Rather, challenging enough so your mind stays engaged. The brain likes engagement. It's quite easy for your brain to shutdown and become disinterested. To the point where you're thinking about everything else except whats in front of you.
I've read some of these comments here and think people are misunderstanding those asking for a bit of difficulty. They aren't saying make this game so hard only a niche audience can get through it. Just don't make the game so easy that you aren't even trying.
I will be glad the day Wario returns in a Land adventure. I always enjoyed playing his games the most growing up.
"Shake It" was the last big outing back in 2008. Wario land 3 was the first game I played in the Marioverse. He is my number 1 favorite Mario character and I do miss his game series.

Re: Review: Sonic Superstars - A Fine, Authentic-Feeling Return That Runs Great On Switch
@Exerion76 Of course I know I don't need to play those modes. All I said is co-op is a culprit in why scores are low.
Re: Review: Sonic Superstars - A Fine, Authentic-Feeling Return That Runs Great On Switch
I'll wait for a discount. I think the co-op and tacked on battle mode was a bad idea. Had this been a single player experience, it might have fared higher across the board.
Re: Video: Sonic Superstars Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & PS5)
Ill be waiting for a discount as well. Im not really into the co-op experience. It feels like alot of the extra features are an afterthought.
Atleast underneath the rough edges, there's an okay single player game. Should've focused on that.
Maybe one day classic Sonic will get a proper Sonic 4. Im not counting Mania as that was more of a celebration than a sequel.
