Re: Nintendo Bags GLAAD Nomination For Paper Mario's Trans Representation

Vexx234

@Smithicus Please don't do that. It's annoying. You make a comment, then someone disagrees, and then you decide to play "Well, I don't care much anyways" and as a bonus "I'm not here to start anything". It's disingenuous, and a way to remove you from own your words as to not have anyone challenge them personally.

You said what said, because you are partially invested even if it's from curiosity, and it is indeed political because you made it political.

Re: Jim Carrey "Open To The Idea" Of Playing Robotnik In Future Sonic Movies

Vexx234

Now Metal might finally have his due. It's really a shame how the third film jumped so far into the future. Skipping over Amy and Metal who should've been in the third outing.

Both characters imo should've been the third film. Not only as a way to introduce Amy into the fold for fans, but also to show the history of Robotnik frustrated with his many defeats, creating the only thing that can defeat Sonic. Another Sonic.

Amy could've joined the cast and we got to see her, and her giant hammer kicking a**.

Re: NieR:Automata Surpasses Another Sales Milestone, Plans For 2025 Teased

Vexx234

@VoidofLight Played with yes, but never actually explored it in depth as fans I've met made it seem to be. Alot of the message is surface level exploration that is hamfisted at times.

The fact you are running around in skimpy attire sorta betrays whatever thought provoking themes the game could've have. Is there a reason for this? A critique of the male gaze? Or how sexuality is viewed in media? Why did humanity specifically create female robots in this skimpy design? No, it's just because Taro wanted a hot robot girl. How can you expect me to respect your characters when your purposely dressed them to be oogled at?

Take the religious allegories for example. The game doesn't explore religion in any nuanced meaningful way and all the complexities of it. No, rather it gives you the most extreme version of it.

Or take the characters for instance. Many of them are just one dimensional parodies of every trope possible rather than complex characters who've could been explored given the message of the game.

Taro himself said in a interview he doesn't put much thought into his own themes and just basically "goes with the flow" hence probably why they feel like the most simple take on anything.

After reading an interview with the guy, the impression I got is someone who just wanted to tell a wacky story with a hot robot girl. To me that's fine, but I find the storytelling and themes not deep at all. And the why the dialogue is not good as extreme fans I've ran into had me believe.

The themes of Nier Automata explores are something that is worth telling in a story. However Yoko is not a writer who can convey those themes in any meaningful way personally. Not because he's terrible, but because he himself admits to not putting much thought into anything.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog Will Be Back For A Fourth Movie

Vexx234

@Coolmusic People say Metal Sonic cannot work on his own, but at the same time he can. If anyone remembers Sonic Heroes, Metal Sonic actually by his own sheer desire to surpass Sonic evolved.

There's even a dialogue exchange during the final battle where Metal Sonic essentially acknowledges he's nothing more than a copy of Sonic.

Metal knows Sonic is the original, but sees Sonic has a something he must surpass. To prove that he isn't the "real" Sonic, but rather what Sonic represents. He's the perfect version of the original.

Metal often gets overlooked due him being just a robot, but Sonic Heroes, was the first game we got to somewhat see Metal Sonic being more than just what other iterations were. It was machine fighting to prove it was better than the real thing.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Movie

Vexx234

@Gamergirl4 Can't say I agree with that. Doesn't need to be PG-13 at all. I've consumed animation all over the world and animation as a medium can tell mature stories whilst being aimed at younger audiences. It's just mostly American's backwards idea that kids can't digest anything other than loud noises and bright colors.

Do you need a scene showing a young female being shot? No, but one can allude to the tragedy which adds emotional weight to the character Shadow. You can add serious things to a story without it being graphic.

Japan's animation is in fact aimed at mostly younger audiences, but the level of maturity they give the medium far outclasses the west.

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Chimes In On Characters Showing Less Skin In Upcoming HD-2D Remake

Vexx234

@full_metal_opera AC Shadows has two protagonists. Not just one. One of them is a Japanese female.

The black person you are referring to is based on an actual historical figure. One that Japanese history acknowledges. He's name as far we know was Yasuke. What we do know is that he was briefly a retainer for Oda Nobunaga. Theses two things are facts.

Koei, the company behind Nonbunaga's Ambition has made Yasuke a part of the games for a while now. His most prominent role being Samurai Warriors 5. Noih, even featured the character as well. Rather you wanna believe it or not, yes there was African male living among a homogeneous Japanese society at the time.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings Animated Short Announced

Vexx234

@Maubari You've got it all wrong there. I wasn't being edgy. I was being critical and sympathetic.

"Sega made two wrong moves and it's the fans that lost out. Shadow just couldn't escape bad decisions."

That right is me being sympathetic. Far from edgy.

Here is me replying to someone else:

"Sega just mishandled the character. They saw Shadow was popular but gave fans a version that was too over the top. To their credit however, they realized that, and dialed him back down. It's just unfortunate it had to be in Sonic '06.

While im not a fan, it sucks for fans of the character they've had to wait this long for a course correction. Hopefully with this mini resurgence, fans will get a proper Shadow game. I think there is potential for a second outing if done right."

That right there is me wishing you fans get another chance.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings Animated Short Announced

Vexx234

@GinMiguel Ah, I gotcha. Thing is, I don't see a problem with fan demand. Shadow was and still is popular. Sometimes a one and done character can become a mainstay when handled properly.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings Animated Short Announced

Vexx234

Ive never been a fan of Shadow. That aside, Sega did more to kill the character than anything else.

Dialing up the edge from cool to cringe. His debut game was like a parody of himself. That and his debut game was just eh...not great.

But It's a shame how quickly Sega gave up on the character. After a failed solo outing, and a failed AAA venture. Sega just stop investing in the character all together.

Sega made two wrong moves and it's the fans that lost out. Shadow just couldn't escape bad decisions.

Re: Lara Croft's Pinup Posters Go Missing In Tomb Raider I-III Remastered

Vexx234

@Yurion34 I can't really agree with you.

Females history of how they've been poorly portrayed in media is far longer than males.

Most of these females designs stem from a males mindset. You can see that from games of yesteryear.

For example, take a look at "The Elder Scrolls: Arena" cover art. The Men are dressed appropriately, while the female is wearing a bikini. The point of that design was nothing more to get a rise of pent up guys and increase sells.

Would that game sold the same amount if the reverse was true? Three half nude men in thong armor, with the female dressed normally?

The reality is sex sells, female sex that is. If many of these games that came out in the past and some still today, those sales would be drastically reduced if the reverse were true.

Men set the standerd, men normalized it.

Would Nier be praised and sold half as much as if the main character was a male with his buttcheeks on display?

Would this upcoming Steller Blade receive the same amount of highfives from dude bros if it featured a man running around in a nude skintight suit?

It's hard for me to sympathize when the female body even today is still highly criticized for not confirming to a warped idea of what it should be.

I still remember the discourse around reboot Lara's appearance with most men upset she had actual normal proportions and dressed reasonably for the setting. Many of those men calling her fat, ugly, horrible.

Or take Alloy from Horizon, who was called all kinds of disgusting names because she wasn't dressed like she got back from a pron shoot.

What was the first thing modders did when the game to PC? Their damnest to hypersexify her. The same thing happened with reboot Lara.

Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit

Vexx234

@Wexter Preserve was perhaps not the right word to use. I just meant I want some of the old games I enjoyed growing up to be ported to modern hardware instead of being stuck on aging hardware.

Thanks though, I don't play Persona or even watch Star Wars. So it was a fun read to know about them both. I'm sorry I can't give a better reply. It's hard to type as Im waiting for a new pair of glasses to arrive. So don't take my simple reply as dismissing anything you've said.

Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit

Vexx234

@Dr_Lugae I emulate the game because it's my favorite game, however due to the niche of it, it would cost me nearly 500 usd just to repurchase the entire collection. The game in question has been dead since 2004, and the company who owns it has shown no interest since then in reviving the series. The Ip just sits there collecting dust.

If the game were ported to current modern hardware, I would gladly repurchase it as it would be cheaper than going out my way to rebuy the old hardware + the games themselves.

There are some games that are just not possible to play unless you are willing to spend an arm and leg.

There are just some companies who are willing to let their old games be forgotten, than actively work on a way to preserve them.

I wish I had the billions of dollars to purchase the rights to some old franchises. I would gladly invest in bringing them to modern hardware to be preserved.

Anyways, im not pretending what I do is right. However, the money spent just to play the old games is just not worth it.

Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit

Vexx234

@sanderev Steal it from whom? The game is long dead. The only people making money from it are second hand sellers. If I spend 200+, Nintendo isn't getting a cut of it, the ip owner isn't either. The only one who's getting paid, is the guy who suckered 200+ out of me.

So, I don't feel any guilt emulating it.

Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit

Vexx234

@sanderev My favorite GBA game sells for over 100. 200+ if you want it unsealed.

Yeah no, Im not investing nearly 200+ USD just to play a single game from my childhood. A game on hardware that will eventually become obsolete. A game that Nintendo and the IP owner has shown no interest in trying to port into current hardware for preservation.

Re: Random: Sonic Superstars' Free Shadow Costume Is Certainly Something

Vexx234

@Ability-King-KK As someone who's played just about every Sonic game, I had no idea they were all canon and took place in the same timeline.

Seems like an hindrance honestly. It's incoherent, messy, and doesn't make sense when put under scrutiny.

I don't know why Sonic team decided to limit themselves like that. No canon equals freedom to do whatsoever without worrying about following a set of rules.

That's just me though. I find the idea certain characters can't appear due to a wonky timeline a strange choice.

Re: Review: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered (Switch) - The Best Way To Rediscover A Gaming Idol

Vexx234

@TruthisRare @-wc- Then both of you are missing out, and probably missed out. I enjoy every era of gaming, but that's also because I seek new experiences everyday.

There are tons of smaller devs coming up with concepts all the time. They just lack the budget of a AAA studio.

Heck, just a few days ago, a game titled "Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden" was release. IGN and Gamespot both gave it a 7. The gameplay isn't stellar, but many critics recommend it for it's story.

A story that takes place in early America. A supernatural love story too. Gameplay might not be the best, but a game that decided early America for it's fantasy setting instead of the typical AAA medievil one? Yeah, Im down for it. It's different.

Growing up, most games I played were point n click pc titles, while consoles games I loved most rarely reached 9. Lucky to even hit 10. At best 7-8. But, I have fond memories of those titles because of their quirkiness.

In every era of gaming, I've always found something worth exploring. Rather it be for story, gameplay, or puzzle design.

Big titles may have stayed mostly the same through every era, but smaller titles in those eras atleast left enough of a footprint to have a strong cult following today.

To me, there was/is no best era of gaming. Every era has something to offer that makes it just as good as the last.

Re: Best Nintendo Remakes Of All Time, Ranked

Vexx234

@Princess_Lilly That's not always the case. Sometimes a remake a can improve an original.

Sometimes an original wasn't that good to begin with, and a remake does it better.

It's a case by case sorta thing. Granted remakes can also be bad or worse, but not always.
