Re: Nintendo Places Outside Top Ten In Metacritic's 13th Annual Game Publisher Rankings

@Eagly God Of war, released in 2005. A hack in slash game about a Spartan Warrior who promised to serve Ares in exchange to help him win a battle. Betrayed, he was tricked into killing is own family.

God Of War 2 saw Kratos take the place of Ares as the new God of War.

GOW 2 was followed up by two psp spin off games.

A third which was on mobile phones.

God War 3 came out 2010 which pushed the limits of the ps3. It was Kratos final battle against Zeus. It featured Kratos bringiing down the greek gods.

Last game in the ps3 system was a spin off called Ascension which was just an okay game that many critics agreed was a slight downgrade.

I was 15 when the series started and played each entry until the soft reboot. I find the reboot boring. Sue me. The combat is repetitive, the rpg elements felt tacked on, and it's story boring.

Same feeling for the sequel. You enjoyed it? Good. Alot of people did too? Great. I didn't, and stand by my comment. Your rant about console wars when I never implied it was contest between Nintendo or Sony is strange.

Re: The Final Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer Is An Action-Packed Thrill Ride

@Nintendad84 lol, you are giving them waaaaaaaay too much minor credit there. Disney is still king here in the USA.Yeah that got the rights to Mario, but they are nowhere near Disney/Pixar levels. Heck even Sony's animated Spider-man movie is 10x the quality of every illumination film combined.

Before Sony's film, Disney was the standard that most animators in the biz tried to replicate. Now animation is following the new standard set by Sony.

Illumination has so little impact with their mixed to average films that it's not even a contest. I mean their best achievement is Netflix. Lol.

Re: Mario Movie Improves On Characters Who Didn't Have "Much Of A Personality", Says Director

@Jeremazing True, recently with all these franchises coming out on tv and movies the hero's journey is becoming a bit stale. Sadly its used as the staple for the majority of storytelling so not many people venture outside of it because it's safe and reliable.

But, I agree with you, that's not the only approach to storytelling and it would be interesting to see more films do something differently. Right now the only approach is to do a spin on it.

Re: Mario Movie Improves On Characters Who Didn't Have "Much Of A Personality", Says Director

@AstroTheGamosian Dude/Dudette it's Mario. Every other kid and their grandpa knows about the character. Arguably more so than Sonic.

This film is going to make bank regardless of it's reception. That's just facts. All these people complaining in the comments or just other sites are a vocal minority (we need to stop pretending they have huge influence). A badly reviewed piece of media hasn't stopped it from making millions or billions.

There's too many parents with kids and too many Mario fans who don't waste their time online nitpicking for this film not to succeed. It's going to be a huge hit. Will it make a billion? eh maybe, maybe not, but whatever it's budget is, it's going to easily double or triple it.

Re: Mario Movie Improves On Characters Who Didn't Have "Much Of A Personality", Says Director

Vexx234

@Jeremazing But from a storytelling perspective that makes sense.

Mario is from the human world right? It would make sense that suddenly been thrust into a alien world would make him a bumbling hero who has to grow.

He doesn't know the rules of this world, and how things operate. Making him suddenly knowledgeable of all the inhabitants of the mushroom kingdom the second he lands, wouldn't be an interesting story of personal growth.

Peach being a wise sage makes sense because she is a resident of the mushroom kingdom and therefor understands how her universe works.

If you were to switch the characters stories around and have Peach land in new york city all of a sudden, she too would be a bumbling hero because the rules of Mario's world makes little sense to someone from a land of talking mushrooms.

I think you are being overly harsh here. Nintendo wouldn't approve of a script that made Mario out to be a total idiot. That's just standard storytelling of every hero's Journey.

Re: New Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi Game Announced By Bandai Namco

Vexx234

@TheBigBlue Personally I haven't. By time 3 came around the series was starting to enter the realm of boredom. That, and the various takes on the formula with spin-off games wasn't not very good.

I'll be skipping it because I'm pretty much done reliving the Z saga for the 10000th time. That and I'm not a fan of Super so I don't wanna relive that either.

One day maybe if there is a game that doesn't follow the same story and instead something entirely new I'd be up for it. Heck, I'd actually play a game set in an entirely new timeline with new main characters.

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

@DiggleDog I agree with you. Luigi isn't ruined. I'd argue he has more of personality now than he did way back then. He's no longer just Green Mario. He's the opposite of Mario.

Luigi to me just wants to sit back and enjoy life. Wheres Mario is the white knight, Luigi is just the normal guy who's content with life.

And as cowardly as he may be he's more than willing to heed the call if need arises. In the Mansion games Luigi is scared out of his mind ( who wouldn't be), but he still goes on because he knows others depend on him and will not fail.

If we were to use Luigi as example what it means to be a hero, he would be perfect. To show that there's nothing wrong with being afraid, it's how you handle that fear that matters. Luigi is a brave chicken and that it what makes him awesome.

Re: Mario Movie Directors Explain Their Take On Princess Peach

Vexx234

@CharlieGirl I agree with you. It always seemed silly to me these princess with their vast resources can't save themselves because "reasons" and therefore must sit around while a plumber and farm boy do it because they more "capable".

Call it a nitpick sure, but I always question the silly logic of the media I consume. On a side note that's why I've always been attracted to anti-heroes and villains. They aren't worried about saving damsels in distress.

That's why Wario is my favorite character in the Mario verse. He's not worry about chivalry just greed.

Re: Sonic Veteran Takashi Iizuka Is Taking On Executive Officer Role At Sega

Vexx234

@RareFan Mario Odyessy is the first Mario game I completed. I had fun. Just a gameplay focused game with a silly plot.

Frontiers is another example of a Sonic game I quit, and will never pick up again. The dialog, and plot is too ridiculous for me to sit there with a straight face. That and all it's other problems.

Sonic OVA is one my favorite films and it does a better job with it's story, characters, and it's world than what most games have done.

Sonic is a silly character in a silly world much like Mario. Just dial him back down and keep the story simple. Focus on gameplay and don't worry about needing a heavy plot to carry it.

Re: LEGO Bricktales' Easter Update Hops Onto Switch Later This Year

Vexx234

When I was achild, I never collected action figures, nor played cards games; and even when I had videogames which I didn't really get into until my teen years, I always had Lego.

Whenever a new set came out, I was in the store buying them. You can never be bored of building with bricks. Despite the awkward controls of Bricktales, I love these little Lego games that take me back in time.

I kinda wish I never stopped the hobby.
